Taking away a star today...probably won't go back. I was extremely disappointed with the manager today -- the Harry Potter look-alike. I found his attitude condescending and felt like he was speaking down to us, which is especially disappointing considering we shop at this store almost every week. An employee had been helping us with a woolly butterfly bush that had obviously been there for a while and was growing significantly sideways. We were concerned about whether it would recover. The employee was very helpful, said he thought it probably would, but understood our hesitation and suggested that we ask at the counter if they would consider a small discount. So we did. The manager came out and told us, "I could have sold that for full price yesterday." Okay... then why is it still sitting there today? He went on to say that he would give us the discount only because his employee had told us to ask, but that in his opinion the plant was not discountable. The discount was 15% on a $29.99 plant. That comes to approximately $4.50. Let that sink in. A regular customer who shops in your store almost every week, whose large backyard is filled with plants, flowers, and trees purchased from your business, was made to feel uncomfortable and talked down to over $4.50. The money was never the issue. We were concerned about purchasing a plant that might not make it, and one of your own employees suggested we ask. Instead of simply handling a very minor request graciously, the manager turned it into an unnecessarily unpleasant interaction. Apparently $4.50 was worth risking the goodwill of a longtime customer. I purchased the plants we already had and then left. I continued on to Home Depot and purchased the rest of the flowers I needed there. All over $4.50. Sometimes customer service costs a business far more than the tiny discount they were reluctant to give. read more

SummerWinds nursery has a nice collection of plants and cactus. They did not have the type of tree we had a question on. We did enjoy looking at the bonsai and other cactus specimens though. In fact, they don't really have large trees. We decided to go across the street to another nursery where they do carry big trees. They have their own parking lot. read more

This nursery is well organized and have lots to choose from. I find the plants overall are smaller than those offered across the street at Moon Valley Nurseries. Smaller plants are both good and bad, depending on your needs. There are also a lot of great smaller flowers here for patio pots to add plenty of color! I found the edible plants for a vegetable garden to be much more extensive than Moon Valley Nurseries. So I guess it depends on what you're after exactly. I like that they sell a wider variety of fig plants, and was interested in one of them, but the two plants available didn't look the healthiest. I'm not sure I want to take the gamble on a fig tree that may or may not make it. The healthiest looking plants they had were their citrus trees, again plenty of variety. Still checking out nearby places before making any decisions. read more

This is my FAVORITE nursery in all of Phoenix!!! They are incredibly helpful and truly just nice people! In the spring I came here to find the perfect plants to decorate my patio. I was surprised at how educated the staff were. Recently, my little brother mentioned he wanted to get engaged at a nursery because his Fiance loves plants. I recommend this nursery and after talking to the staff they helped create the perfect area on the property for him to get down on one knee and propose! Again they went above and beyond... it brought tears to my eyes and it felt like true neighborly kindness. I would recommend this business to anyone and everyone. I love Summer Winds! They have a large variety of household and neighborhood plants. Every time I go, they have something new on display. The prices are competitive, especially for how healthy the plants are when you buy them. Their service is also top notch. If you are there when Wendy is, you know you will be well taken care of. One of the Home Depot gardening guys recommended Summer Winds for a tree they didn't have. He said Summer Winds had more reasonable pricing than moon valley. I ended up buying a tree for $160 compared to $2900 at moon valley, just a little smaller. Only issue, I put it on hold for my landscaper who doesn't speak English well. When he arrived no one could find the tree, I had to drive over, when I got there they found it right away. Other than this, great experience. read more

Compared to Moon Valley across the street, this is a lovely nursery with more individual sized plants. I came with a friend who lives nearby at almost closing one evening so we only had a few minutes to check out some smaller cacti plants she wanted to get. We were very impressed -- they had so many great options at more reasonable prices, compared to the industrial sized plants across the street. They did come looking for us with one minute until closing to shoo us out. Too bad, we probably would have left with several plants had they just given us a few extra minutes. Oh well! read more

Bought a Ficus Nitida for $399, the best price I could find in town for the size of the trees. Overall good selection of plants and trees. Super helpful customer service. They helped get in on a truck lift and secure it. They were concerned that we were putting on the back of the SUV. Good news: I got it home safely and soundly. read more

I've been going to this neighborhood nursery for years. It is always a good time just strolling around and seeing what is available. I used to go quite a bit as I had a black thumb and plants would die under my care! I now am getting better and I go to just add to my growing collection. (pun intended!) Sometimes they have items that just are not "in season" for Phoenix and for people that aren't more experienced with plants they will be heartbroken when they don't survive. Always look around for sales - just a couple months ago they had roses at 75% off. During this time of Covid, they take it very seriously. You must mask up and they ask for social distancing. We have used SummerWinds nursery many times. Beautiful selection and helpful service. My only complaint relates to my last visit. I was overcharged approximately 80 dollars for my purchase. Obviously I am partly at fault. I did not notice the error until all my planting was complete. I should have been more careful at checkout. I returned part of my purchase and thought about complaining then but no way to prove the error. They made the error and that's on them but I should have caught it. I still think they are a fantastic nursery but I'll be more careful in the future. read more

Wow, I just had the best experience here!! First time visitor looking for a dwarf citrus for a specific planter. I called and spoke with Miles in the morning and he went out and walked me through what he had in stock while we were on the phone. When I walked in this afternoon, Justin was watering and stopped to walk me to the proper section. We talked through the options, he was very knowledgeable. While I was selecting, he retrieved a cart, returned and loaded it up. He could have easily stopped there. Instead he patiently answered my questions and walked me through the soil selections, placed on cart, and parked it at checkout while I finished browsing. After checkout they loaded everything into the car. I literally touched nothing. I could have hauled it all myself, no problem, but they did it all. I'm so impressed. Prices were reasonable too. People on Nextdoor told me about this place. Lots of pots and yard art. I read that most are coming from Mexico. We bought a pot and they loaded it in our car. Pretty seamless. The one issue was that although we were careful to look at the four sides of the pot when we chose it, there was a crack on the bottom that we didn't see. Hopefully that won't change the integrity. The guys working there were nice. The pot was more than I had intended on paying but I needed something that day... I was originally looking for a more modern look. They didn't have a lot of choices in that style. Ended up with a fun one for pop. read more

Summer winds had a very good selection of flowers. I love that there is so much from to choose from. I did notices their prices are a little higher. I was looking for Passion flowers and unfortunately the selection wasn't in very good condition and they didn't have the color i wanted. I will go back and see if they got a new shipment of Passion flowers though. read more

Very Satisfied I wanted to send my mom a live plant for her garden for mother's day 2021. I found SummerWinds had the plant I wanted, and could deliver for a reasonable price. The color I specified in my order ran out of stock just as I ordered it, and their friendly staff gave me a call and helped me select a color that was even nicer than the one I chose in their online catalog. Their plants are always healthy, they've got beautiful pottery and finally a selection I have a hard time choosing from! I've recently purchased seeds (humming bird flowers?) instead of already grown plants and they're definitely growing! I'm actually not upset but I'm not sure why it seems like the male employees always seem to think I've never stepped foot in a nursery until I load up a cart. As female employees wait for you to approach them with questions, which I honestly prefer in a nursery setting. Anyhow, they're definitely not over priced. This place is amazing! I RARELY say that, but please read on.... There's easy access parking out front, and you can then wander in. There is a WIDE range of types of plants hidden within. Herbs, veggies, roses (of which by AZ standards, they have an excellent and broad selection), perennials, bushes, all kinds... and they all looked to be in excellent condition and well cared for. Furthermore the staff are relaxed, friendly and helpful; creating a great atmosphere. Well stocked nursery. One of the top nurseries in town. Lots of plant selection. Carries a lot more than a big box. Slightly more expensive than a box store, but in general, from personal experience, plants and trees are better quality. Some of the box store stuff has terrible wrapped roots - probably nursery rejects. Much much more reasonable prices than the moon valley nursery across the street. Staff is helpful and friendly. They have a loyalty program than earns discounts and they guarantee all their plants. If you use your loyalty number when you buy, they can look it up without your receipt. read more

We have lived in our home for several years but were always at a loss for what to do for our backyard. It was a dirt filled blanket canvas. After finally deciding that we needed to do something we contacted Summerwinds and their Garden Coach program. My message for Jeff was returned within a few hours. When he came to our home he wore a mask while touring our yard. He gave us amazing insight, listening to our needs/wants, and helping us formulate a plan. I loved the fact that they are well organized, but I was a bit sad at the variety of organic veggies available as sprouted plants. I do love the fact that they have a plant guarantee and if your plant dies, you can bring in your receipt and the dead plant and get a new one. I have a pumpkin I purchased that died on me, but I am not sure where I put my receipt, so I don't think I can bring it in. Overall, I did enjoy coming to this nursery and can see myself coming back again. Hopefully they will have more organic variety. read more

I happened to drive by this nursery and was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in. It is a deceptively large and beautiful nursery. Ron (my go-to guy) is extremely knowledgeable and helpful in choosing plants for the upcoming summer heat. There is a large selection of pottery and indoor plants. The indoor shop is large and has a lot of bulbs, seeds and decorative items. I will definitely be back. Probably tomorrow. read more

Big thanks to the staff at SummerWinds for helping me with finding good succulents for the floral arrangements and bouquets at my wedding. After the florist I hired basically checked-out/gave up on trying, I had to figure out a way to wire succulents safely for a few days and make sure they looked beautiful on our special day.
