This location is driving me nuts with the lack of labels and prices. I'm often driving by and love to stop for plants, but its frustrating to wander and find plants you can't figure out what it is or what it costs. I shouldn't need to walk all the way back up front to ask -- and I've been giving the wrong information before anyhow. Its important to know what kind of plant you're buying for multiple reasons. The other Whitfill location (off Guadalupe and Cooper) doesn't have this issue. Overall I think the plants are pretty healthy but after having an issue with lack of labeling (on both the kind of plant and pricing), having been given the wrong plant info on a plant, and after having asked if they had Pink Fairy Duster and being sent off in a direction to wander and never find it on my own, I'm really over this location. read more

I love this place! The plants are affordable and healthy and they have a huge selection. I was able to buy plants for my vegetable garden, as well as a bunch of hopseed columns for my landscaping. I've been back multiple times since for filler plants and inspiration for the rest of my yard. They sell soil for a cheaper price than competing nursery's and are all around friendlier and more helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

I wanted to buy 4 fruit trees for my desolate backyard. I went to Whitfill Nursery on East Southern Ave. I spoke with Jason. He showed me all their fruit trees. They have a great selection of all kinds of trees as well as fruit trees. I wanted one lemon tree, one orange tree, one peach tree and one plum tree. Jason explained all the different varieties of each. I chose a Meyer lemon tree, one Cara Cara orange tree, one Desert Gold peach tree and one Santa Rosa plum tree. I also spoke with Barb about the care of all the trees, she took the time to give me detailed care explanations on each tree. That really help and she really knows a lot about plants and trees. The crew that delivered and planted the trees were very prompt, skilled and polite. I am very pleased with my whole experience with Whitfill nursery. From the price of the trees to the level of customer service I received. On the recommendation of a friend, I visited Whitfill's on North Phoenix about a week ago. I have been on a hunt for some nice-looking pots. Most places I had been to had just a few colors (white, blue, terracotta), but as I drove by last week, I saw an array of colorful pots. Taking that friend's advice, I went back and was not disappointed. I purchased three pots, and the staff could not have been more helpful. Bonus points for their ability to deliver, which I have discovered is not commonplace. Frank walked the pot area with me and tagged everything for delivery. Knowing they soon would be delivering my pots, I thought now was the time to purchase the shade tree I have been wanting. So, today I went back to Whitfill's. Billy took me around the lot and gave me some great advice. After talking with him, I decided against my original plan and went with a different tree. Aside from what appears to be a genuine willingness to help their customers, they appear to be a full-service nursery, as when they deliver everything, they are going to plant the tree and the one vine I purchased. Knowing it will be done right and that they stand behind their product/work is reassuring. They have an incredible selection of flowers, potted plants, vegetables, herbs, and succulents. They appear to have it all, plus everything you need to plant and maintain your garden. I have not had great luck in the past with a number of nurseries, but I think I have found a winner! And, based on the number of people that were there today, so have others. read more

For over eight years my wife and I built our new home near South Mountain, we've been visiting, shopping, and purchasing a variety of plants, trees, shrubs, and vegetables as well as some outdoor ornaments and decorative items from Whitfil Nursery. Their variety of plants, both regular and seasonal, has overall been incredibly beautiful and very good. And their knowledgeable staff are helpful in many ways. Many of the plants purchased were also installed by their crews. They have hundreds of acres to get tired walking around in making your selections of annuals, perennials, fruit trees, cacti, with assorted sizes, styles, and configurations. I pass by here a lot and have only been in at another location. It was before Christmas and I needed to get a gift for my mom. As I drove by the light bulb went off! My mom, who is in her 80's, doesn't lack of things. Lol.....however she loves plants and especially pretty pots to place them in. I passed by and made a quick u-turn, parked and went in and was shown where most of the pots are. There it was, it stood out! It is absolutely gorgeous and large enough to hold a small tree. The colors are amazing. So colorful with a beautiful pattern. It was worth the look of surprise on my moms face when she unwrapped it. She loves it. They definitely have great service and selection of not only plants but pots and lawn ornaments as well. read more

We came here looking for a replacement tree for our front yard . We had a staff member named May help us pick out a low maintenance tree. May was a breath of fresh air , she set up our removal and delivery , she went over the process with us and We were able to learn a few things about our native trees along the way. This business in my opinion operates in a very subjective way. We went to the nursey yesterday and spoke with two different individuals who represented the business. The pricing from both individual was considerably different. First person quoted $1500 for 36" ficus and $3500 for 48" ficus. The second individual quoted $1300 for 36" and $5500 for 48". We decided on a 36" ficus at $1300, planting was $200 and delivery $150 (is set based on our location). I guess the first person was quoting price and planting for 36" ficus as $1500? After purchasing, we left with an uneasy feeling. Called today and asked for pricing. Was placed on hold while they checked, was then quoted by a third individual that 36" ficus was $1300 and included planting. Frustated, we called back and asked to speak with manager. We shared our buying experience. He assured us that the same price we paid for the item and the planting fee were correct. I still suspect the price you pay depends on who serves you. That's my honest opinion. The manager was very pleasant on the phone and listened to our concerns. He apologized for the miss information and promised to work with staff on current pricing information. The products being sold seem to be excellent quality, all the individuals we dealt with have been very pleasant. The transparency of pricing and the subjective nature is very unnerving. The guy who helped me happily loaded them into my car for me after putting down a liner and gave me a few tips on planting. I went in to buy a Christmas tree with my husband and 3 kids, , my daughter is scared of dogs and was startled when seeing the big dog they have in the patio area , a staff member quickly closed the door to stop the dog from getting out , the older staff member then scoffed , we later found out the dog was hers ,the staff member who closed rhe door was a young girl who helped us out, she was very kind and even offered to take our picture , i was surprised to find out that she was only 15 , she was very friendly and had a bubbly personality, we talked to Hugo about getting the best price on a tree and he was very helpful! great trees , amazing prices, and a nice family oriented company. I listen to the owner on the radio sometimes , and heard they are open till 7;00 , we ended to staying till about 7;50 , and the staff was still very friendly to us, initially, I wasn't going to give a 5-star review because of my interaction with the older lady , but the rest of the staff was nice , and is is a good business read more

We had a lot of Sour Orange trees planted Oct 2021. The first photo of very sad yellow trees were planted by Whitfill Nursery. We had brand new irrigation installed days later. All of the trees are on the same line. The beautiful lush dark green trees were bought and planted by another Nursery May 2021. I went to Whitfill in person in Oct 2022 to discuss what is going on with their trees. They gave me a bag of citrus feed. I was called by Bryan who said he would come to my house to look at them and to not put on the citrus feed. That is the last I heard from them. No other contact or visit since October 2022 call. It saddens me that you pay so much for trees and there is No responsibility taken to make sure they are healthy or were planted properly for growth. I also manage another home that we put a Hong Kong Orchid in October 2021. A Certified Arborist has told me the tree is a root ball and will never root into the location and fall in a short time. read more

We had 4 trees planted in Oct.2022 and 3 are doing great. 1 may fail, but that's our fault. I spoke with Julie at the Glendale Ave. store and she told me what to do and that it could take a long time. So, we'll wait and see. I do appreciate all the help they give you and the planting is an extra service that is appreciated. Can't wait for the Chinese Pistache to grow into a shade tree! Let's take a moment to reference the movie toy story, when Woody found squeak was put on the top of the shelf in the back collecting dust because he no longer could squeak. Now imagine walking into the back in the warehouse and 90% of the plants are collecting dust and almost completely dead. Now if you have a love for saving plants, then this is the perfect place for you because I don't know if I mentioned but everything is almost dead. We moved into a Tempe townhome that had been rented and neglected for seven years but that had nice-sized but barren front and side yards. Enter Joy at Whitfill Nursery. Joy worked patiently with us to design what is, as of yesterday, a Sonoran oasis. She listened to our ideas and found plants and design elements that fit like a hand in a glove. She is a real artist of landscape design, and her enthusiasm is infectious. We could not be happier with the finished product. Whitfill uses locally sourced plants, so you're not getting something grown in a greenhouse in Kentucky that will wilt at the first heat wave. The best part is she listens to the customer and comes up with works of art. Let me first say that I'm a HUGE fan of the Whitfill Nursery in Central Phoenix - at 7th St and Glendale. Their customer service is unmatched and their selection is fantastic. My husband and I were unexpectedly in the area so we decided to try Whitfill's southern location. Suffice it to say the experience left much to be desired. We walked around the nursery for a bit, and noticed that hardly any of the plants had prices on them. When we finally found one of the nursery's only employees, he explained that the five gallon plants are $20 and it goes up from there. However, this price system is not applicable to every plant there, as some plants with the same size pots have much different prices. Incredibly unhelpful. Frustrated, my husband and I were on our way out when we heard talk of a greenhouse near the back of the property. An employee drove us back on the golf cart since it was 105, which we appreciated. He did ask if we had any questions, but we hadn't even had the chance to look around. After about ten minutes of browsing, we found four different plants that we wanted to buy and sought out the employee to get prices. However, he was nowhere to be found. We stepped outside the greenhouse and there was no one nearby to answer our questions. We decided to cut our losses and take our business elsewhere. If we didn't have to try so incredibly hard to make a purchase, they would have made a nice sale. A word of advice, it's okay if you don't have a ton of available staff, but at least have prices on your products so customers can serve themselves. read more

Half the employees at this place don't have a clue what's going on, I was told I would get a refund 3 weeks ago and the check was in the mail. I called every week to see why the check hadn't arrived but I kept getting told it was in the mail or told they would call me back. I never got a call or a refund. Finally I called again, I got a Guy named Matt. He was the first one to actually do his job and look into this for me. I was informed that the check was never sent and he would refund my card right away. Again thank you Matt I really appreciate you! But to the rest of you, please learn how to do your job.
