So, so glad we bought our trees from Whitfill. To be quite honest I checked out this business because they support PBS and are mentioned at the end of shows I watch. We first met and worked with the owners son. He explained pros and cons of each tree, and considered where we live in his recommendations. This was an important piece due winds being stronger in our outlying area. This was not a consideration presented by other nurseries. We took a week to consider which tree we wanted to purchase. I called 811 to set up the utility companies review of our yard. Matt was not there when I went back to purchase, however I received the same excellent service from the other employees. I would like to note that everyone I spoke with knew the business of plants and trees. The trees were ordered and paid for, an install date was selected, and the 811 info notification was set up. Planting day happened on the day and time stayed. There was a crew of three who did the planting. All three were long time employees of the company which spoke volumes to us about the owners. The planting was completed and our yard was cleaned by the crew. Last night a monsoon hit. A tree support pole was broken by the 80 mph winds. Whitfill sent a worker out to replace the pole today. He checked out the condition of each tree, reviewed our watering schedule, and gave a little more support to each tree. This is a reflection of how important it was to understanding which tree would do best in our location. Comparing Whitfill to other nurseries in the Phoenix area we found larger trees for just a fraction more in price, all of the employees from cashier to sales to yard knew about their products and services, and the planting crews were excellent. In a year or so we will be purchasing additional trees. They will be from Whitfill, could not even think of going somewhere else. read more

I purchased two ironwoods and a mesquite which I had delivered and planted to my home in Scottsdale. The prices were good, delivery was on time and they did a great job making sure everything was as I wanted (including clean up). A couple of weeks after they were planted I called up because I thought there may be an issue with one of the trees. The man on the phone explained the possible causes and treatment, and encouraged me to call back at any time as they will stand behind their work. I did as he suggested, and it worked like a charm. I'm a landscape contractor and I'm new to Phoenix, with few connections and lots of questions. I walked in without an appointment and Joy stopped what she was doing to help a stranger in need. With no shortage of places to purchase softscape, Whitfill became our place of choice a couple of years ago when we were having issues controlling our watering at our Phoenix home. A discussion with one of their on-site experts, Bill Frazier, and we knew what needed to be done to get our watering under control. Two years later and our established plants are doing well and our watering bill was cut in half!! Today (21 Mar 19) we went back to Whitfill to get a new round of plants after redoing our backyard. Met with Bill again to learn which plants work best in our yard (Phoenix-level heat). I wish I could enter No stars or negative stars! Whitfill Nursery on Southern added an additional $4000 to a credit card used to purchase a $200 tree. This was for a relative of mine who is a 92 year old woman customer. So while the manager assured her he would take care of it, 2 months later, no corrective action was taken by the nursery. This has forced the woman to get her credit card company to pursue the issue. I hope they will be charged with attempted theft. read more

After having moved to AZ a few months ago, I've had a huge learning curve when it comes to desert landscaping. The owners in our house before us left multiple large planters by the pool which I really wanted to fill with great things to make the backyard look nice. I first filled them with flowers from a hardware store, and within weeks they were dead in the summer heat. We tried to connect with a landscaper to have him plant but our inquires went unanswered. The planters then when went empty for the rest of the summer. :( Finally, having enough of the empty containers, we went to this nursery to see if we could find something. At first the lot was overwhelming, and while there were many pretty flowers, I didn't want to buy more to have them die. Then, we met Bill. Bill went out of his way to show us what would work and not. Then, how to select the right plant and important things to look for (like the amount of petals that would fall off of a plant and the associated maintenance required). He gave us space, but kept coming back to check in on us and answered all my questions. We left the store with plants for every container at what felt like a reasonable price with the knowledge of how to care for them and a phone number if we ran into any trouble. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone in need of gardening help, or just general knowledge when planting in a new area. The selection is great and the service is above and beyond. This place has been here for a loooooong time. It is also only 2-1/2 miles from my house, how nice is that? The best nursery in the valley located only a few minutes away. But, I have driven all over the valley to nurseries and also have ordered trees and plants online. Anyway, it's the customer service here not-to-mention the vast property full of all KINDS of trees and plants that attracts me. You walk in, someone is standing there. They will walk the entire property with you if you so desire and they will describe anything you are interested in. If you have a specific type of need to fill - shrubbery; shade tree; whatever, they will take you to whatever they have available. I went in there last week looking for a ground covering plant that I had bought at a nursery going out of business. I didn't know the name of it, the guy offered suggestions but, walking 40 feet into the place I saw a whole stand full of them sitting there. Yes, I was elated to find them that easily (neighborhood cats had trampled a section of them and I wanted to replace them). It's also Christmastime and they have a HUGE variety of Christmas trees! If you have a 20 foot tall ceiling in your home, you will find a tree here that is absolutely beautiful that will take advantage of that space! Their cheapest price is $29 - which is nice for a tree that is sitting in a stand with water versus all those other big box places that have them all clumped together, NOT sitting in water, death defined. Oh, and their delivery fee is $50. I was told that is wherever, though I suppose that rate might go up for a longer distance, I don't really know. I've been to the other nurseries, alot of them, even the obscure ones that are not that well known. Moon Valley has nothing on Whitfill's besides they do the planting. Their selection is nothing like Whitfill's IMO. If you are a plant/tree enthusiast, you have to at least try coming to this place once to see what they have to offer. read more

We aren't exactly professional gardeners, but chapo walked us through the nursery helping us make the right selection. He even drove us to another part of the nursery to show us a particular plant he thought we would like. This place has crazy low prices. We got 16 plants for $195 (including 4 huge shrubs, an ocotillo and a large blue agave). A few hanging plants were $3 each. We would have spent at least twice that at Home Depot. read more

I came here on a balmy Wednesday afternoon in search of the most unique and rare tropical species. I walked in and immediately felt like I was in the jungles of Cambodia. A place by the way I have spent many many years of my life. But it was December and my house needed only Christmas decoration, so, I ignored those plants and headed towards the Christmas trees. They had trees, I'm not sure how many. Somewhere between 11 and 397. Most were normal tree size, summer look bigger. But I didn't want to tree I wanted garland. Expensive. I went here to buy a few herbs and vegetables , they didn't have any that were living. The trees and shrubs aren't guaranteed for any length of time for a fair refund that would justify spending this kind of money when I could just buy it at Lowes or Home Depot and have a one-year guarantee. I stopped by Whitfill's nursery today to pick up some succulents for a project While I was walking around at the nursery looking at plants , I saw a Rooster & Hen walking around , I kept my distance but they followed me around and before I knew what hit me the Rooster attacked me from the front causing two deep puncture wounds on my left leg by my shin, below my knee ! and as I attempted to walked away and get away the rooster jumped on me again causing two more puncture wounds with the claws/ nails of is feet on my right leg calf ! Unbelievable! The nursery didn't have a first aid kit or any bandaids that they could give be so I spent the next half hour at the nursery picking out the plants while my both legs continued to bleed. I usually keep a first aid kit in the car for emergencies but forgot to put it back after our last trip. The employee helping me with the plants even admitted that , that rooster is aggressive and has injured him the same way twice! If you go to this nursery be careful not to get anywhere near the rooster, especially if you have kids with you I went to urgent care after I was done at the nursery , spent two hrs , I was given antibiotics to take twice a day for 7 days which cost me a lot! , a tetanus shot and a prescription topical cream for the punctures , the main concern is that the claws/ feet of the rooster are very dirty and the wound can get infected if left untreated! read more

Absolutely love the 7th st and Glendale location however, while visiting this location I happened to overhear some (I'm assuming management) speaking poorly to a female employee. Like, unacceptable... sexist sounding remarks. I do not want to support a business who thinks this is okay. I hope the owners do something about this. I wish I had gotten names but please do some investigating. And for the females who work here, I hope you file reports with the industrial commission. We need to end this type of work place harassment and that happens with legal repercussions for businesses who allow it or look the other way. read more

Joy has been an absolute joy to work with! Let me start by saying we are very particular. We tried working with three other landscaping businesses, all of which dismissed our needs and requests (we had a lot lot them) before feeling confident in moving forward with Joy at Whitfill. We have very curious dogs that will eat anything we put in the yard. Joy has several years of experience as a true landscape designer and really knows her stuff. She was so patient with us as we discovered together what had the potential to harm our dogs and what didn't. Since we planted everything at the beginning of the summer, we had a few plants not make it and she was so great about replacing them under warranty as promised when the weather cooled off. I can't recommend Joy at Whitfill highly enough. She is a true gem and worth the wait! read more

This nursery is one of my most favorite places in Phoenix! Whitfill is a true gem right in the Phoenix Central Corridor. Recently I stopped by to scope out the Christmas tree selection and of course browse the awe inspiring antique store located in the 100 year old adobe house on the property. (A MFH smorgasbord) This is just a tiny taste of the nooks, crannies and vast flora and fauna isles that can be explored here! We even had our annual family Christmas photos taken here a few years ago! The staff is beyond helpful and the grounds are so beautiful, somedays I just come to wander around and enjoy all the beautiful sites, sounds, and smells they have to offer. Don't miss taking a peek at the peacock enclosure and be sure to give the sweet goats a good ear scratching too! read more

Spent over $1000.00 of nursery stock and a $20.00 plant died and they did not resolve the issue. I will not be going back to this nursery. I feel that the customer service is not the best. I was told they would warranty plants by one side f there workers and they did not back up this statement . For the most part their product is good. read more

I came here to ask questions about a tree that is dying at my folks house. They were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic when speaking to me about what I can do to save the tree. It helps to take in pictures which I did not have. They weren't trying to sell me something that I didnt't need. They were genuinely interested in helping me out. I had an awesome experience here and will definitely be coming back to do all my purchasing on veggies and fruits! I wish more people would come to the local nurseries and see all the wonderful plants they have for a low price. You can buy tomato plants with tomatoes on them already!! So I drove down to the Tree farm to purchase a Swan Hill Olive tree (36" box) about 2 weeks ago. They had one that I really liked, so of course...I bought it. Paid a decent price, but these trees are generally expensive. However, when the guys showed up to plant it, they had an olive tree...which wasn't the one I picked out. Apparently, they "mistakenly planted my tree at another job" and picked out a random tree and put my name on it and didn't say anything to me until I called them out on it. People make mistakes, but to try to slip this past me is just bad business. Sorry...as I hate to leave negative reviews but I will not use Whitfill again anytime soon and now I'm back at square one. read more
