We have several trees on our property from Tropical Concept, actually some fun trees like the Maranga Tree (the tree of life) Kim explained the trees history. I got a stick about 30 inches tall, prepared the planting hole as I was told. 30 days we had tree. I cut branched (small) and then cut them to about three inches. She put them in the pressure cooker and we ended up with some great tea. Read up on the tree and others you might have questions about. You will get the straightest answer you could ask for. No forcing products off on you, but they will tell you the correct product to help this tree survive. What to avoid that people will try to sell you. They are verry honest people. read more

Incredibly down to earth and sincere owner that was super helpful in and gave great advice!! Exotic trees are so fun in the desert!!

Dan and Kim take great pride in keeping their plants and animals very well taken care of. I highly recommend.

Hidden in between the urban buildings is this five acre nursery jungle. We went on a Saturday around the closing time. There were not many people but the owner of the nursery welcomed us and took us on a tour around the nursery. U name it and he has those tropical plants. Ranging from banana, mango, mulberry, guava, sapote, Moringa, bay leaf, curry leaf, sugar cane so on. We wanted to buy banana but their stock this year is hit due to pandemic. They generally get their plants from Florida. The man has tons of exotic rescue birds too like parakeets, macaw, white peacock, swans, ducks, turtles. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a lush in the center of the city. Mind u it's not your regular nursery where everything is arranged well, cleaned and presented to perfection. This is rather rustic, old school and feels like Costa Rica. The man shared his history, family and was pretty jovial. We bought ourselves a grapes vine and got home thinking this is what a farm land would be where the kids would enjoy with the chicks, eat the fruit off the trees and live a content life away from the stress and noise of the city. read more

A Tropical Concept Nursery - Unfortunately This is the only pic I took - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

My wife and I were able to purchase 4 trees for $550!! Considering I was quoted $1000 for one tree elsewhere, this was an amazing value. The visit included a thorough tour of trees, fruit tasting, and encountering tropical birds. The space is incredible and it's impressive that Dan and Kim were able to grow a jungle oasis in the middle of the desert. Dan has a wealth of information to share and we felt confident walking away that we'd be successful in our growth journey. If you want unique trees that can thrive in the harsh Phoenix climate, this place will take care of you. read more

We stopped by to pick up a couple banana plants, this place is amazing!!! Too bad we had a dr appointment or I would have browsed the whole place!!! We met the owner, he is so funny and personable, we will definitely be back when we are back in town. We saw a bunch of rescue birds and dogs, just super good vibes all around. I didn't take many pics because I was too busy looking and taking it all in, but I did get a pic of a mama chicken and her new babies. read more

Great service, owner very friendly. It's a little hidden due to light rail construction in area, but worth the trip

Spent a few hours here this morning with both owners. They were more than accommodating with information, tree options, suggestions, pricing, knowledge and experience. Anyone who posts one star has got to be from the competition down the street. These two are the real deal. The grow everything they sell on site and try it also from seed. They know what they are doing and they don't try BS gimmicks with soil up-sells. I went home with four trees. One I've never heard of and can't wait to watch them grow. I know these two will help me out if I start to see the trees stress in the coming months. THIS is the place to shop tropicals and strange varieties for Pho read more

Amazing property, felt like I was in the jungle. I'm addition to the plants, the owners rescue animals and birds. Loved all the baby chicks running around. Very helpful and kind. Can't wait to visit again. read more

The owners are incredible characters, the nursery is so full of life. Unlike other nurseries, you see trees planted in the ground giving fruit as you walk by. There is an astounding ecosystem growing here and the owner doesn't try to sell you secret fertilizer combos or dirt. He gives it to you like it is. Will be back! read more

I've been going to almost every nursery in and around Phoenix for awhile now to see their fruit tree selections and I gotta say this is leaps and bounds better than other nurseries I've been to when it comes to the variety of fruit trees, it's not easy finding quality tropical fruit trees in Arizona. The two people (husband and wife) there were so nice and helpful, plus they have a good selection of fruit trees so I had to buy one even though I only planned on looking around. Even the animals there were nice and made it even more fun visiting. I'll definitely be back this place is great. read more

As bad as it gets! I felt compelled to immediately write this review upon my 'interaction' with them. I called their 602.315.1966 number. A man picked up the phone and was clearly angerily talking to someone else...something about water and what the Hell you expect him to do, (a couple more curse words)...something like that. I decided right then and there that I didn't want to do business with a person that answers their phone like that so I hung up. AS I was hanging up, I then hear him cheerfuly say, "Hello!" He immediately called the number back, I answered by saying, 'Hello, this is _____". He obviously wasn't paying attention because he was carrying on talking to someone about getting water...blah, blah, blah as I listened. Then he says angerily, 'C'mon, answer your Damn phone!!' I said, are you speaking to me? He said, 'Oh, sorry, I was talking to a customer.' I said, 'If this is how you speak to your customers, I don't want to do business with you so please don't call me again.' He then screams 'Don't call ME!!!!!' **Update** Just read another review here where the customer was yelled at and told to 'shut up'. #clueless read more

In an ever growing game of seeing how quickly I can kill plants, I am attempting a few tropicals in the desert. When I heard about this place from a fellow fruit tree grower whom has had success, I made a point to visit here. Don't be fooled by the rough exterior and the dogs. Everyone...including the dogs...are sweet as can be. I met Dan and he walked me around the property on a sort of mini tour...including their tropical bird aviary rescue...and even treated me to some bananas grown on the property. They have an extensive inventory of all types of tropicals: mango, starfruit, Jamaican, Barbados, and Suriname cherry. Figs. sugarcane. Banana. And so much more. All sizes. They give you a great rundown of how to plant, how much sun or shade, water suggestions, and cold protection suggestions. I wound up getting an ice cream mango and a Turkish fig and both are putting on new growth 3 months later! These guys are really friendly and seem to know what they're doing. they've apparently been around a long time so listen to them and you can get it to grow here! read more

Such a quirky fun place. They make me want every tree out there because they have so many varieties and they're so knowledgeable about everything. Be careful, if you're passionate about fruit trees, you might end up chatting with them for an hour or more! They do accept credit cards now but I recommend paying cash. Can't wait to go back and get another tree... if I can find room somewhere in my yard! It is very tricky to find. Seems like every time I go there, I drive past it several times. There's a somewhat large parking lot out front and a spray painted sign. read more

Kim is great. She is so passionate and helpful. She's quirky and I don't mean that in any negative way - I respect her and her knowledge so much. When you walk in for the first time, she treats you as if she's known you for years. Both visits of mine resulted in a full property/yard tour including fruit tasting from her many trees. And she knows her stuff! I bought a young coconut crème mango from her and so far it is growing like a weed. Very excited to have this! Her selection is great. Plants and trees you'd never expect to find. And their website has been immensely helpful as well! read more

A Tropical Concept Nursery - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

I love plants, trees, flowers, herbs...and needless to say I'm always on a lookout for awesome unique nurseries. Found this one on Yelp and I'm glad we decided to stop by. The outside, parking area looked a little strange and I had to convince hubby not to drive away and he was glad I did. This nursery is a local business. A couple owns it and they have turned a regular dirt lot into an awesome tropical nursery. They also live on the property and have taken in many stray dogs that now live a happy life there. The lady took time to show us around. Her tropical trees and plants are very impressive. I learned so much from her just in half an hour. She has banana, mango, and other tropical and unsual plants there so make sure to stop by and support this local business if you are in the area. read more

I can't wait to go back for my next tropical tree. My Mango tree has been added to the collection and she looks amazing. This place is awesome its as if I traveled to a different state. The amount of tropical trees makes it hard to just pick one. Those of you who visit beware of the white ducks they will follow you and bite your pants haha. Kim and Dan Thanks for all the help. read more

I only went there to browse the selection, I talked to an older man who I believe is the owner's husband. He out of the blue just started complaining about Shamus O'Leary's nursery and other nurseries in the valley. He takes pride in having the ability to "just put them in dirt and watch them grow", which is part of his claim that you don't need any "magic soil" or "magic dust". I was ready to head out at that point because it was immediately clear he isn't open minded about different ways to grow these plants and doesn't know what he's doing. He has a lot birds on site which I thought was different and kind of cool. The place was a complete dump though, really unpresentable and dirty with things everywhere. It was like a Costa Rica crap shack. I wish that place the best, but it needs a lot of work. read more

First things first - the trees here are absolutely beautiful and unique. Customer service: that's where the one star review comes in. I bought over $1500 worth of trees at this nursery along with compost and soil. When I called to inquire about what ratio to use the compost/purchased soil/native soil to plant these with the guy on the phone started yelling saying he was too busy to help. He ultimately told me to shut up and plant a 50/50 mix...which doesn't work when you have THREE components to plant with. Do you mean 30/30/30? Do you even know what you're talking about? I'm just trying to make sure I don't kill all these plants I just bought. The woman working there was very helpful - just don't deal with the older gentleman. Price: They're overpriced - probably bc there are not many nurseries in the area that have the same product. Worth your time to price match or bargain with them a bit read more

Great prices and huge selection of tropical and fruit trees. The owner is awesome guy and has been doing this for a long time. I randomly past by this place and stopped. I wasn't expecting to be so blown away by the prices and selection. After shopping at moon valley... everyone will look cheap lol read more

Ended up here after visiting a fruit tree sale in Mesa and a tropical fruit tree business in AJ. Do not let the location fool you, this place is a diamond in the rough! The owners were kind and down to earth, giving us a tour of the paradise they created. It was inspiring and magical! Good prices, great selection, and they had the biggest mango we could find in the valley. Definitely worth the drive. Highly recommend! read more

I've been a few times. The prices are fair and the selection wide. Happy with everything we have purchased from here including mango. The owners are friendly. Better prices and better quality than what you can find in the east valley and better prices and better attitude than what you can find in the west valley. Worth a try. read more

This place is amazing! A small Disney land for gardeners & plant lovers a like! Lots of mature tropical fruit trees planted throughout property ( so you know what your buying will actually grow and thrive here) a pond with ducks & lots more. I visited this nursery yesterday for the first time and was surprised by the amount of knowledge shared by the owners, Kim & Dan. I had a million questions and they took the time to answer in detail every one. Picked up a longan, mango, and banana. Just wish the were a little closer to me! read more

The owners - Dan and Kim - are very helpful, patient, and easy to work with. They give great advice and suggestions, and have - as advertised - tropical and subtropical trees and plants...that they are growing successfully. When I say successfully, I mean the plants and trees are growing very well and healthy. They have banana, mango, guava, passion fruit, dragon fruit, blackberries, goji berries, blueberries, chinese cherries, fig trees, curry...and so many others I can't recall. Everything is very reasonably priced, and I will be going back again, for sure! read more
