The horticulturist that came out to visit us was unbelievably knowledgeable and really helped us develop a strategy to protect all our cactus (a wide variety) from the intense summer heat and sun. Highly recommend these guys.

They came with the proper equipment.

The Catus Dr. ,Adam Vickers, was originally referred to me by Master Gardeners from the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. The Catus Dr has a college degree in the field. He has provided me with advice and services on the proper care and preservation of saguaros and other native plants. I'm immensely grateful to Adam Vickers, a.k.a The Cactus Dr, for he prevented unnecessary removal of Saguaros, arranged a move of a Saguaro, and has supplied and planted mature Ocotillo in my HOA. He regularly answers my questions/concerns on proper care of AZ iconic plants. I trust his knowledge. In 2018 Saguaros in our HOA began to collapse. I wanted to know how I might act to prevent the collapse as the drought years continued in AZ. I looked out my windows at a garden that has been a testament to Arizona's natural beauty for over 40 years. See photo. In 2018 The Catus Dr prevented the removal of a saguaro by the HOA maintenance crew: I asked for 24hrs to hire a professional to assess the plant. Adam Vickers arrived the next day. He advised how to determine if that saguaro was moving and explained the crack was common for saguaro. It was not oozing black fluid to suggest bacterial narcosis infection which can lead to death. He also recommended these established Saguaros, which had no irrigation, be watered every few weeks in AZ summer heat. He warned against overwatering. Thanks to his advice, cherished Saguaros still grace our community eight years later. Also pictured is a spear that was moved from a residence yard to a common element. Care was taken to orient in same direction of original location and soil treated. Proper watering recommendation was given by the movers provided by the Cactus Dr.

Anything your heart could desire as far as cacti and palm trees go. I was here just to snoop around and ended up purchasing a nice little Golden Barrel Cactus, which I dragged home with me on the airplane ... The selection here is extensive. If I lived near here or even in a zone where these plants could survive outside, I would certainly have bought up half the store.

Not only do we go to them during the holidays but rely on them throughout the year when we need additional plants and trees for our backyard. We first started using Whitfill back in the early 2000's when they were on 40th street south of Roeser. We literally lived across the street from their nursery and when they moved to their current spot on Southern we followed! We have decades of photos with our boys standing next to the tree they choose for Christmas and the tradition continues now with our Sphynx cats! They used to have a peacock walking around but unfortunately he is no longer there. They are pet friendly and we are comfortable taking our cats there in the stroller. Not only are their prices and tree selections the best in town but their customer service and knowledge of anything tree related is vast! They know what they are doing and don't try to upsell or get you to buy unnecessary items. They are the real deal!

I shouldn't need to walk all the way back up front to ask -- and I've been giving the wrong information before anyhow. Its important to know what kind of plant you're buying for multiple reasons. The other Whitfill location (off Guadalupe and Cooper) doesn't have this issue. Overall I think the plants are pretty healthy but after having an issue with lack of labeling (on both the kind of plant and pricing), having been given the wrong plant info on a plant, and after having asked if they had Pink Fairy Duster and being sent off in a direction to wander and never find it on my own, I'm really over this location.

We found The Green Goddess website and they're nearby. I was dreading the whole thing, thinking we wouldn't find anything that would work. And then there's the whole take-it-out and make-the-new-one-fit-the-hole issues, what about the plumbing and pump and so on. Hubby is much more level-headed, so we went. Wow, the business is so much bigger than you can see from the street! Excellent selection. We wandered around, trying to find what we liked. Such an amazing variety of working fountains on site! We saw one that was perfect, a design that would eliminate the splashing and cleaning drama, and a better size for our space. But wrong color. Along came Sara Cervantes to assist. Good grief, she knows everything to know about this stuff! She walked us all around the grounds showing us pots that would work, and they could make it into a fountain. We made the selection, she had guys come with fork lift to load it up, we made quick decisions about installation date, and BOOM we were done. Got great advice on maintenance. The installers came on the chosen day, dismantled and removed the old monster, and did a beautiful installation job. All of the employees are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and nice. Couldn't be happier! Just go, already!

We were instantly greeted by the owner and educated on two plants, Swiss cheese plant (Monstera) and Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) that I had interest about. Additional we did some troubleshooting on a Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides) that is struggling right now. This shop is so cozy, diverse in stock, and full of plant accessories. Ended up with two plants, six (6) terra cotta water drains. They also have fertilizer and soil. Will be back for more plants and supplies. Tucked in are all sorts of other surprises: plant pots, stickers, local art, little gift items, and framed bugs (apparently there's a market for these too). The owner has a fun eye. I was just visiting town so resisted the urge to buy a plant. But I did find a a locally drawn card and local painting of the historic Mill Ave Bridge over Tempe Town Lake, the perfect gift for my boo who was racing the last ever Ironman in Tempe. If you're in Tempe and you're looking for a cool stop beyond bars and restaurants, check out The Plant Mill, and let me know what treasure you find there.
