Were in the area and figured to give this place a shot. Here was our experience. EXPERIENCE: Parking: Inside the nursery, you basically park so you're not in the way of the the entrance/exit. Feels: 15 minutes away from the college town side of Arizona which isn't too bad. It's on a busy street but there's a banner so keep your eyes peeled. The spot itself is huge as there are rows and rows of plants. You can somewhat drive around the place to load up any of the big plants. All out door with some shaded patio. Plants: Plenty of cactus selections and medium-sized succulents. Lot of healthy selections. Not many small plants which I was fine with. This place is such a hidden treasure spot! We went to many locations looking for desert plants for our front yard. This was the only place that had a beautiful selection of plants and cacti. The plants were all well taken care of, treated with love and it was so organized and such great prices. The wow factor was the amazing owner Richard, he was such a breath of fresh air. There is no sales pressure and the owner is super knowledgeable about the cactus and care required for them. Came here to get succulents and cacti to landscape my front yard. I'm on a really tight budget. I found everything I needed and got some real treasures on the cheap, because they were looking a little rough. I can't wait to nurse them back to health and see my garden fill in. After I went here, I drove past another nursery and stopped in. Although the variety at the other nursery was much larger for succulents, the prices were considerably higher and the people there were not as helpful. If you're more of a bargain hunter and less into glitz, this is a good stop. read more

I called Richard yesterday to get advice on a sick cereus peruvianus cactus that other cactus and landscaping companies have advised was terminal. Richard asked for photos to confirm a diagnosis and informed me that the cactus was actually on the mend and would survive with a trimming a the dead limbs. Richard could just as easily given me the same suggestion as the others with the hopes of selling me a replacement cactus but he was truthful. I will look for opportunities to give my business and others to Phoenix Desert Nursery. Honesty is hard to come by these days and he saved us $500 minimum and our 15' tall specimen cactus. Grown here in the desert, not shipped in from California. Prices were half of what I would have paid at a Scottsdale nursery and the selection was much broader both in types of cactus and sizes offered.
