I grew up in semi tropical region so I shared my knowledge about tropical plants in exchange for his experience of other plants In all of those years, Don has proved if he is not the BEST, he is One of the BEST and most fun person to work with in the plant nursery industry in great Phoenix area. Visiting Shamus O'leary's Tropical Fruit Trees nursery is a treat. There are so many amazing, hard to find varieties in his nursery, and, there are so much to learn from it. Of course, the place is great for those "Plant 101 level buyers", I do believe, those "Plant 501 level garden lovers would get immerse satisfaction.

The ambiance shows that the crew here doesn't just preach but actually practices treating the ground well, some permaculture, and the like. We've gotten kaffir lime, white sapote, jamun (javan plum), apricot, barbados cherry, several kinds of kumquat, red finger lime, etc here. Very happy with all of them. That said, several citrus we purchased were still staked long after needed and one's stake is embedded in the trunk (we couldn't pull it out when we planted). My understanding is that it isn't hurting the tree but still. Just an important note: they're happy to schedule a time after hours for you to come purchase trees but don't show up within an hour before close for a large order because they might not be able to accommodate without feeling squeezed.

Someone gave me a kordes perfecta rose bush that came from this nursery. It bloomed for a month…read morethen died. I loved the color, fragrance, rose shape. So i waited until they had them back in stock The next year and bought two of the same variety of rose going by the label attached as it wasnt blooming yet. One died again within a month the other after it bloomed it was obvious that it was miss-tagged and not the same variety. Not even close, colors are wrong very little fragrance wrong flower shape. The next year they didn't carry kordes perfecta variety and still don't. So i have a rose bush i cant stand and never would have purchased and cannot get the variety i want anymore. Each time i go they want cash only and wont give a receipt. So its impossible to get a new plant. Please note i got my maricopa master gardener certification in 2001. And my yard was once on a garden tour... i know how to grow things. So why did 2 of 3 die within 1-2 months? And why are they misstagged? Not happy at all

They also have a poster showing what the flowers on different ones look like. The prices were reasonable and the workers were super friendly! I was greeted right when I walked in and asked if I needed help with anything. Later, another worker offered me a bottle of water since it was a pretty hot day. The workers seem to all be friends with each other as well and they were very knowledgeable. It's not right off the main road but they have a big sign out by the main road so you know where to turn and it's very easy to find. I definitely recommend coming here to get cacti for your yard. Much better than what you'll find at a big box store!

I was looking for a place to get small, outdoor cacti and succulents to put in pots. I usually go…read moreto the general nursery but then found this place on Google. So glad I did. They have a great selection of smaller cacti, and you know they will survive the desert because they aren't all being stored in a greenhouse. The guy who worked there was very friendly and helped me find what I needed. He later helped me put what I bought in a box he provided along with some paper to help keep it from falling all over the car. I appreciate the attention to detail. Only thing they don't have is a basket or something to load up your selections on till you check out, so you have to bring them to the counter one or two at a time. What a hidden gem.
