He was so incredibly knowledgeable and excited to share all his advice with us, and show us new things we hadn't even considered. We need a lot of plants and a lot of ideas. From start to finish..PERFECTION! Mike drove us in golf cart to the back 40 where we picked two huge Mulga Acacia trees. He answered every question we threw at him, lovely guy. The service after the purchase was horrible that stated that my tree came with a warranty when I picked it out and now the tree is dying and they refuse to replace it! Nice place where we got all our bushes and trees 4 years ago. We had to get another tree as earlier this summer one broke in half, nature caused. I spent more than 5 hours looking for an Imperial Thai Delight Bougainvillea near Phoenix, Arizona. I called multiple nurseries, looked through online catalogues, I even delved into Etsy... And then I happened to find pink pearl bougainvillea at Treeland, they look identical to the other variety; white fading to pink, I'm freaking thrilled with the 5 gallon bougainvillea I picked up for $24.99. I also grabbed some 5 gallon upright rosemary. I was a little surprised they didn't have more options of sizes for each plant, but as they had the size I was shopping for, not a problem. I also got directions to the plants I was there to find, but I didn't really need any in depth Q & A. They offered us plastic to save the floor in our vehicle, so that was a nice bonus. Only downside I experienced was that their carts worked more like see-saws, you need to balance your plants or they tip back and forth (and I as carting 50 gallons worth of shrubbery). read more

What gets's them 5 stars is the level of customer support received on multiple trips. Looking to add some versatile plants around the exterior of the home we found some great options with the help of 2 staff members. Seeking help was easy for us. We spoke about watering, feeding, shade, sun, etc.... I didn't feel rushed and I'm pretty sure I wasn't asking anything they hadn't hear before. They had the patience to help us out and choose some great plants. In addition, we picked up quite a few fruits and vegetables to grow in the mini garden and mosquito repellant plants that are now "the new mandatory" in the backyard. My husband and I visited quite a few nurseries before we accidentally stumbled upon Treeland Nursery. Let me tell you our search for the best service and selection was over! We walked through the aisles and just took everything in before approaching a staff member named Manny. I think luck was with us that day because Manny was so knowledgeable about everything gardening but his genuine excitement about the plants made the experience absolutely enjoyable. He drove us around the entire lot showing us different choices, he answered every question I had, and he helped us choose and tag our citrus trees, ocotillos and agaves. I have a very green thumb in Michigan but I was extremely nervous about growing anything in this desert soil. If you asked me how many stars I would give TreeLand 6 months ago, I would have said 5, now I'm comfortable giving 2. I am fair, so I will say this about Treeland: Pretty good selection, they have trees that many stores won't, however that is not ALWAYS a good thing, I'll explain why. Their prices are pretty fair and decent, and there's a lot to look at. So what are the cons? What is the problem? Salesmen - typical, say whatever it takes salesmen, who care about one thing, getting your money and then whatever happens later is your fault, because you're just a sale. Depending on what sales person you speak to, you'll either get a 20 year old kid who doesn't know what day it is, or a guy who will tell you whatever it takes to spend your money. They don't directly lie to your face, they just tell you that every single tree is perfect for you, that it'll do great, and answer all of your questions with "Ohh yeah it'll be perfect, no worries!" Turns out it's not true, it's not okay, and it's just sales tactics. I mentioned they have a good selection right? Well guess what? Having lots of trees that are not adapted to our hot desert climate doesn't mean anything and it's a waste of time. Yeah, they have all these cool exotic, unusual trees you don't see much, like pepper trees, carob trees, orchid trees, Tipu trees, etc, but if they don't do well here in the desert then why the heck even sell them?? They sell these trees knowing full well that most of them won't make it through our summers, and most of them cannot tolerate our hot sun, yet they will tell you that they will be perfect and grow just fine. And if anything goes wrong, they blame it on you for not maintaining them properly. Well, it's kinda hard to maintain something properly that isn't suited for our climate, you can water and water all day but our hot summer sun will have the last word, it will fry them to a crisp, and if nurseries were responsible they wouldn't sell those items and focus on plants that will only THRIVE here in the desert and not waste water and time. Well, since I'm not a tree expert nor a botanist, I took the advice of these "professionals" and bought one of those trees, I didn't know that much about it at the time, but I asked enough questions to the sales guy to be satisfied. I asked this guy all the questions you can imagine...How much water per week? How big a space? Does it need shade, or full sun? Do I need to plant it east, west, north or south? Does it need fertilizer often? Does it shed? How big will it get when mature? Can it tolerate hot western sun? Can it tolerate summer heat? I asked everything, and every answer was "yeah, no problem these do great out here." Well, silly me, I trusted him and bought it. I was given explicit instructions on how to plant it, how to set it up on a drip system, which I did properly with the proper emitters, and how to maintain it, I followed every instruction perfectly. By the end of June, this tree was fried like fried chicken. Literally over the span of 5 days this tree went from crispy leaves, to one dead branch, to 3 dead branches, to the whole thing being dry, crisp, brown and gone. It lasted barely 3 months and it's very clear that this tree was NOT meant for a hot, western sun location and it was not adapted to our hot desert climate, yet I was assured it was, that it would do fine, and that it would be no problem. I trusted the "experts" and it was not true, this tree didn't even last past June, with proper watering. If this tree needed A LOT more water, why didn't they tell me that? They gave me instructions for this specific pepper tree, I followed it, and IF it needed a lot more water, I would have done so, had I known. I recently spoke with a gardener who used to have this same type of tree and she said it was a nightmare and that it should have never been planted in Arizona, it was meant for a tropical setting like Hawaii or Florida, it is not meant for our hot, dry climate. I googled this to verify and it's true, this tree is tropical, not desert, yet I was assured it would do perfectly here in the desert. I wish I knew that earlier! Gee, I wish maybe the "expert" could have said "hey look, this is a nice tree, but it's really meant for a shady location, I'd suggest something else" If he had the courage to say that, I would have respected him. I feel like I was sold, I was told everything would be great and then just robbed of money, time, and trust. We plant trees in the ground to enjoy them and watch them grow, not temporarily enjoy them and watch them fry in the sun because they are the wrong tree. I will never, ever buy a tree here ever again, their warranty is crap, their sales people just nod and smile, and their big fancy exotic selection means nothing, because all of those exotic, tropical trees don't do well in Phoenix! I bought a new one at Home Depot because they at least give you a 100% 1 year warranty, at least they'll stand behind what they sell. read more

We had visited several nurseries in the past several months and hadn't been overly impressed. After finding Treeland on Yelp I sent them a message to see if they had the kind of trees we were looking for available; Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit. The owner messaged me back that same evening and even provided prices!! We made the trip from Maricopa to the nursery in Mesa that next day and, with the assistance of Mike, purchased not only the 3 trees we originally went for but 4 queen palms for around the pool and and evergreen pear for color and shade. Mike even gave us pointers on planting the trees ourselves and we bought mulch and Sulfur for the job. This nursery is extremely helpful and friendly. I can only speak to the pricing on the trees, but from our comparison trips with other nurseries - they are reasonable priced. We would recommend Treeland and will be returning customers. I wanted and PAID for healthy trees! but that is not what i got. I had always loved Treeland. I would always recommended it to friends and clients, I enjoyed shopping and talking plants with the guys in the yard.............UNTIL I HAD A PROBLEM. As a mom of 2 I have very limited resources especially time. However we needed shade trees and I needed to get them in before the heat set in for the summer. I decided to go to Treeland because I wanted a QUALITY product, I was willing to pay a bit more and drive a bit further, because I wanted a QUALITY product. So I dug the holes, drove the 30 minutes each way and planted the trees. Done, happy, great. The next day I inspected the new growth to ensure they were happy in their new home....... The trees I purchased from Treeland had mealy bugs. They were INFESTED. I called, after being passed to several people, I described the issue to Treeland. They acted as if this was something very foreign, never heard of. They told me it was probably pollen. I don't claim to be an Arborist, but I can tell the difference between pollen and a bug. So I sent photos and waited for a call back. Results were conclusive, mealy bugs. I am worried that the bugs will now spread to the other plants in my yard. Treeland then tells me not to worry mealy bugs ONLY infest Fan Tex Ash trees and Hibiscus, really Treeland?? I encourage Treeland to google mealy bugs, like I did, please inform yourselves and stop misleading us. They told me that I should spray with a pesticide (carefully and according to the label to avoid injury to the new tree). I don't use chemicals in my yard, I have a wonderful natural organic balance in my yard and gardens. I felt like I had no other option. So I did, as directed. It didn't work on the bugs but did damage the new growth. I call back. No one knows what to do. Those poor employees actually sounded terrified, telling me they can't make THOSE types of decisions. I'm still not sure what they really meant, I can only imagine now after my complete experience. I wait for a callback. Josh says he will come out and look at my trees, I gave my address, I wait around the house until 5, NO SHOW. I call back, AND THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART, Susan is shocked at my surprise and frustration. She says Josh is much too busy to come to my house, that I had an unrealistic expectation. She says bugs are everywhere in the world and I should not be surprised or upset with my mealy bugs. She took offense to my claim that her product was less than perfect, she yelled at me. She is willing to mail me some more pesticide and that is that. I did NOT sign up for babysitting these trees!! Time and Money are the two things I have the least of. I wanted and paid for healthy trees. But here I am, everyday spraying the trees with water, rubbing the leaves to kill the bugs and removing the more infested leaves. Hoping the trees live and aren't too stressed out by the time the summer heat arrives. I can't say that I didn't get anything from this experience. During this 3 week process I learn a bit more about patience. I bonded with my stressed out trees and I am teaching my kids various natural remedies for killing mealy bugs. If all else fails I will buy new trees, but NEVER from Treeland. I will miss Treeland. But not the bitter, insensitive and down right mean natured people who run it. I wish for a better employer for Josh and Eric in the future, good luck to them both. read more

I've been a client of Treeland now for the 5th year. I have always purchased my trees from them and I really don't understand why some of the reviews of the tree quality is 1-star. I own Gold Canyon Landscaping and in all this time I haven't had an issue with there trees or plants. Most times its the planting methods used or rules not followed that makes it difficult for trees and plants not make it in the Arizona landscape. Steve has been wonderful helping me with making sure I always get what I need and if they don't have it in there Chandler store he makes sure I get what I need from there other growing facility's. Summary: Initial service at Treeland when buying the tree was good. The customer service when trying to use the guarantee that they have for a tree in case something happens is frustratingly painful. The company doesn't do everything it can to fully back its guarantee if it's inconvenient for them in my opinion. Left me to pay additional money to fix something they should have fixed. I was in need of a nice shade tree that would be good to have but wouldn't be a nightmare to maintain. I talked with the folks at Treeland to get their opinion on the matter and the person who helped me seemed very knowledgeable. I bought the tree and ordered it to be delivered to my house. Once they delivered it, I wasn't given a choice of how the tree was going to be staked. The landscaper they contracted decided what to do with it when they planted it. Everything was okay until a few strong windy days came rolling through and knocked the stake over which left my tree without support. The next day, I called Treeland and asked if they could come fix this problem. Treeland has a guarantee on all their trees up to 6 months and I was well within that time frame when I called. After multiple weeks of calling and leaving messages trying to contact Josh, who apparently is the only person who could handle my situation out of the whole business, told me that they couldn't help me. They didn't have a contractor who could come and fix the problem because I was too far. They found someone to come plant it the first time and now that I need help fixing it they can't find anyone? As a business I would think that you would do anything to fix the issue especially when you have a guarantee that you are promoting. I had to fix the issue myself. Overall, never buying a tree from them again just because of how long it took me to even find out if they would help me or not. I guess not every customer is important to them and they don't back up the guarantee that they have in place for their trees. read more
