Stepped into A&P on a super hot AZ day to ask a few questions about what I should be planting in my…read morebackyard. I was looking for low shed, colorful shrubs or ground covers. There were a couple of guys at the front of the store who were very helpful- one of them even got pretty excited talking about various options. I was wearing an ASU face mask and he mentioned the Sparky Bells to me, which I had never heard of. Apparently an ASU professor created a hybrid plant variation of the yellow bell that produces maroon and gold blooms. Yep, added that to the list! The facility is well kept, easy to navigate and offers loads of trees, bushes, shrubs, tools, soil, etc. I can only imagine what this place looks (and smells) like in the fall and spring! I'll definitely make a trip back as I really want to add some jasmine to the backyard- that classic AZ smell. The guys at A&P advised that now is not a good time at all to plant jasmine as they will very likely die in the heat trying to acclimate to their new spot. I appreciated the honesty there as I would have been an easy sale if they wanted it. Apparently there's a cat on site (Hank?) who roams the property. He typically sleeps during the warmer months and comes out at night. My daughter was disappointed to hear this but it made her want to come back again just to see the cat! Prices seemed reasonable (I'm no expert) but, again, I liked the fact that the staff were willing to lose a sale to be honest and advise that the plant I wanted would not grow well in this horrible heat. Definitely makes me want to come back later and give some money to buy a few items!

After asking one of the employees when they would be arriving, she basically had no answer for when they would receive any. I completely understand inventory varies based upon weather conditions. However, that doesn't preclude updates to the website if that is the situation. Such a disappointing visit today and a waste of gas. This nursery is normally excellent and has earned my loyalty as a patron, but this was one of the most lackluster visits to date.
