I purchased two vines from A&P on Saturday, planted both the next day... One vine was INFESTED with weird gnat like bugs and one vine (a bougainvillea) had NO root hair, the soil fell apart when removed from the container and the tap root was only about 4" long. I planted it anyway with fingers crossed. It's now Tuesday and the bougainvillea is COMPLETELY dead. I called and was told I could get a 50% discount on another plant... :-/ Really? Like I WANT to give you more money for sick, infested plants. NO THANK YOU! I've lived in the valley for 31 years and this is the first time I've ever had an issue planting or keeping something alive.... I wanted so much to support a local, family owned company, but sadly I will never return to give them my business. read more

Can't speak highly enough of this place. Local nursery with tons of folks who really know their stuff. Never ever buy seed and fertilizer from places like Lowe's and Home Depot. They are not meant for this specific climate and location whereas A&P has specialized products that thrive here. Update: The owner/manager (?) came to my house to personally pick up the incorrect shrubs and offered a sincere apology. He explained the situation, provided a gift card, and took the time to discuss what had gone wrong and how he planned to make it right. I appreciated the thoughtful conversation and felt genuinely heard. He even gave me advice on how to care for my plants. Because of this effort, I do plan on visiting again when I replace the shrubs in my front yard and look forward to their promise of making things right. By coming out to see me in person, the owner did a good job securing me as a returning customer. -------------------- I'm really dissatisfied with this nursery. I purchased a mastic tree and six asparagus foxtail ferns but was charged for the wrong tree an additional shrub, and as I'll get to later-the wrong shrubs. After catching and getting the error corrected (the extra shrub and wrong tree), my landscaper picked up the plants, only to receive the wrong shrubs, which were then planted. Despite multiple conversations with the front desk, they told him to come in to collect the correct plants. When he did, they demanded he bring back the ones already planted, requiring several inconvenient trips between my house and the nursery. To make matters worse, the manager blamed me for not catching their 3rd mistake when they charged me for the wrong shrubs, even though I had already identified their error with the tree and the additional shrub they charged. The shrubs are similarly named--one is the asparagus fern and the other is the asparagus foxtail fern--but I had shown the guy at the front desk the exact barcode and name of the shrub I wanted. I should not be blamed for only catching half of their mistakes; I don't work at the nursery, and it's not my job to ensure they process orders correctly. The poor service and lack of accountability made this an incredibly frustrating experience. This situation could have been easily resolved or avoided in the first place, and I cannot recommend them to anyone. read more

This business has a selective return policy that borders on fraud. They don't take returns on colored plants. This policy is not mentioned at time of sale or on any of their signage. This policy is noted on your receipt, which is given AFTER you have purchased an item. Also, every colored plant I've purchased from has died or is dying in a month. It doesn't matter how much care or following of their directives you do; they die. Pictured are three Calla Lillies that are dying. When they finally do die, I'll go to Lowes or Home Depot to replace them. I don't have time for A&P's games. Unfortunately this what happens when you try to support the little guy. read more

Recommended by a friend to head over here for Lemongrass, all due to getting bit 3 times from pesky mosquitoes while sitting on patio. They had quite a few smaller plants available where other nurseries and home improvement stores didn't carry any. Hoping they grow like crazy! Guys were helpful when we walked in and very knowledgeable about which soils are the best for the type of setup we had going on. read more

I have bought multiple iceberg roses from Lowe's, and Home Depot. A friend told me they are cheaper at A & P Nursery so I bought a few more from their store. They are my only ones that have died. All my roses from Home Depot and Lowe's are thriving. I took my roses I bought from A & P back to the store to replace them because I was within the 6 month period which I was told was their policy when I bought the plants, they wouldn't replace the roses and they would only give me 50% of my money back. I suggest you buy from Home Depot and Lowe's so you're investment in landscaping has a real warranty that will be upheld. The guy helping me told me it was my fault the roses died... I find that interesting considering all my ones from Home Depot and Lowe's are doing just fine. read more

I've mulled over whether to leave a review because I support local businesses first and steer clear of big box stores because I want to support actual people in our community. I don't want to disparage my fellow neighbor, but when it comes down to it...the manager of this location made a blatantly unkind and false comment about people living among us. He was so loud about it that myself and at least two other customers could hear. I was here last Saturday (10/8/22), and a customer wanted help with a tree and he apologized.... stating that they were "three people down today". The manager and this customer proceeded to discuss how people don't want to come to work and they want to live off the government. If you want me as a customer to prioritize supporting a local small business, then you need to respect and see the people in your community as fellow humans. To the manager here: The biggest moochers in our society are not who you believe they are. They are the billionaires put their dark money to work to make us hate each other. All this while they live in their gated communities and bob around in their yachts protected from the rest of us. Love your neighbor and don't disparage them in the business/professional setting. You lost a long-time customer. I'll be driving farther to a different local small business nursery unless you are able to appropriately publicly apologize on this format. Otherwise, I'd like my money to go towards business owners who are professional and respectful to their fellow community members. read more

I was raised rather old fashion that when you make a mistake you step up and own it but make it right and that's what A&P did. So after the bad experience we had with this location literally 30 minutes after posting my updated review we received a phone call saying they had located our Eureka Lemon Tree and was given the opportunity to come back and repurchase the tree since I loved the thing so much I asked the sales guy to hold it for 5 days until I could get back down to pick it up they did. So on 5/7 we came back to the store received an apology and a discount on the tree and now we have a lemon tree in our backyard. I told the sales guy that sense they made the wrong right I would come back on Yelp and post an updated review I myself will always revise my reviews on businesses that correct their mistakes and that's exactly what A&P did today. So I want to thank the business for owning up and fixing this matter there's nothing worse to me than leaving any business unhappy. read more

They carry some great plants and trees. Some of the staff isn't very knowledgeable but I'm sure some are. Avoid Sean for advice though. Brought is some pictures of a citrus tree we purchased this spring. It's not doing well since the weather has gotten pretty brutal. Some of his advice was "you planted it too high" followed by "the soil level is too high". What? If you're experienced with vegetation you're probably ok shopping here. Otherwise purchase at your own risk. I get better advice from the garden center at Lowe's. At least there they say "I don't know" instead of making up stuff on the fly to try to sell you a different feeding product. read more

I came here with my parents to get a citrus tree for my backyard. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a wide selection of herbs and flowers. When we checked out the tree I purchased was mislabeled and it rung up for 80$ more than what it was supposed to cost. The staff fixed it quickly and even gave a small discount for the trouble. A friend of mine told me that this was the place to get shading for my garden. Shame on me. I let the guy cut the shading without asking the price. Whoa! I bought 38 feet for 110 dollars! Ouch! I also brought back something I did not want on that same day. The young lady behind the counter acted like it was her who was refunding me and not the store. I did not need the item, and she acted like I was somehow hurting her by returning something I did not need. I won't be back. read more

About 90 days into COVID cootie virus Isolation I started naming my plants. I know! It reeks of desperation and it occurred to me that I was becoming my mother. I'm an introverted Extrovert who needs very little to be entertained. Plus I feel like Dora the Explorer....can you say, Mariscos? I wanted some unique and decorated plants/cactuses to brighten up our home. After some research, A & P Nursery became my plant destination! They have an assortment of unique plants, Trees, and cacti that you can't normally find at a Home Depot or Lowe's. The prices are reasonable. The staff knows what they are doing too! Instead of some dude in an orange vest you get someone who loves plants, can give you tips, and will help you load your car... talk about service! They grow their plants or get them from local growers which is awesome! I find humor and the ability to laugh or smile even in the worst moments is like a natural antidepressant. So thankful that A&P could provide me with some beautiful cacti and a good laugh while naming my plant family with soap opera back stories. Side note... some of my cacti family have suffered from social distancing regulations and lack of Vitamin D aka the Sun. When I returned to adopt Larry, I got some tips and happy to say they are doing much better! read more

Living in mesa now for 2 years and finally made it to this nursery! Wish I had come sooner. Their vegetables in little pots are 2.99 in comparison to home depots 5.98$ . Their cactus in 5 and 15 gal pots were cheaper! I assumed because small ma and pa shop their prices would be the same if not more than big box. I was wrong. They had a nice huge selection of seeds as well, even ones Homedepot doesnt carry. Trees! It all! Their mature fruit trees some were $149 and the same gallon sized trees at "moonshine" nursery or whatever its called is 299$. Def a place worth checking out. I'll be back! read more

1 of my fertilizers I bought was previously open used and resold to me. Look at the picture and you'll see how much was taken out of the flower part compared to the veggie. And also the measuring spoon was also gone from the bottle. The 1 in the picture I had from the last bottle I had. Bought 2 fertilizers from fox farm cultivation nation 2part. The veggie i bought about a month ago and no problem their it was sealed and full. The the flower 1 however was not sealed, like it was previously used then returned. That was my final thought once I looked inside the container it was maybe a half inch to 3/4 of an inch less than where it should be for a new bottle. read more

I had to take a minute and gush over the fine staff at A&P nursery. The knowledge I gained in 15 minutes was more applicable than the three years I've spent studying in books and YouTube videos. Their knowledge of the soil we have in all parts of Arizona changed so much of my thinking. I recommend to anybody needing gardening and landscape materials and advice to go and check them out. Looking for trees and lots of shrubs and flowers as I am refreshing our landscaping. You r pretty much in your own which can be good but when you need information there is really no staff available. Or so I experienced. A young man was hosing down the plants and kept apologizing that he could not help us because he had to get the watering done before he went home. The plants looked like they indeed needed watering. Some plants appeared to need TLC. Did not buy anything. read more

Great place! I liked the set up and variety of organic and non-organic fertilizers and other garden necessities. They have bird netting, cute pots, and most anything you could want. The garden area is also very neat and you could spend quite some time wandering the rows, imagining them all in your own dream garden. They have all kinds of herbs and veggies, even blackberries and grape vines! My one disappointment however, was a lack of organic vegetables and herbs. They are very friendly and helpful and I'm sure could answer any of your questions about flowers, herb or veggie gardening. read more

We came in looking for a huge array of plants we could have potentially put in our backyard. Although having a game plan and acknowledging that the employees were "no landscapers," the older gentleman that showed us around refused to help. We had a lot of questions about the plants we were interested in that he couldn't even answer. For example: how tall do these usually grow? how's the upkeep? Always coming back with demeaning comments, repeating how he wasn't a landscaper. Enough so that we decided to leave within the first 10-15 minutes of being there! We've been going to this nursery years, but I guess we'll have to try someplace else. read more

This place has what I need usually . Service in the store is fair and they try. We come here for more choices on compost and soil amendments as well as plants. They carry many organic fertilizers and the Fox Farm line. The place is busy but I usually get my questions answered and don't get Pressured to buy to much here. Always do you own Research before coming in and Google plants specs on growth size and planting. The staff doesn't always know here and I am often given wrong information or inaccurate information about soil restorative practices and am directed back to the fertilizers they are selling. They do keep some of the same employees year after year so I feel they must treat employees well here for them to stay. I would love if they had a better way to get your items loaded in the car that you buy. The young man who helped me outside today was unable to read my receipt and had to keep going back into the front desk people to confirm what I was telling him I bought and showing him on receipt, then he came out and scolded me and repeated back what I told him while he man explained what I bought to me. Thanks kid I love being treated like a lair and thief in the parking lot while you load the items I just paid for. No tip for you! He was young and too smart to feel the vibe of quality customer service for an old woman. read more
