Ordered .75"-1.5" river rock...they dropped off a pile of 6+" not at all what I ordered. When I called to get resolved they were trying to gaslight me and tell me it's what I ordered. I took photos to prove and compare they were not even CLOSE....I have 4 guys on site staring at a pile of rock panicking because it's the last day of the job-and they are just dismissing. Not only am I out for the $ of the rock, I'm out a whole day of labor and clients are furious. Do not use these guys, it will cost you SO much more than just the rock. read more

The 20% restocking charge would have been nice, and I would have gladly paid but was told this wasn't an option. As a result, sold the rock at a steep discount. Needed one ton of sand ASAP and could not believe how quickly the order arrived. Christy was my contact and was courteous and made some great suggestions that got us the right product for our needs. She also sent a sample we needed of the black cherry 1/4- which looks great and saved us a trip to their yard. MDI started out fantastic. Arrived on site, met the nicest ladies in the office who helped me find a very close match to the ground cover rock I needed for my yard. Outstanding service. They get five stars. I go home, validate the color match, looks great. Scheduled delivery for Tuesday 9/3, just after Labor Day. On Thursday afternoon 8/29, I called back and asked for a reschedule (work schedule conflict) to Friday 9/6 and the lady was very nice, said no problem. On Tuesday 9/3, I get a text from a delivery driver at work saying the rock was dropped at 8:05am. Wife sends me a pic and the rock doesn't really look like the rock I sampled. I call MDI and it goes to voicemail. I call 4 more times, goes to voicemail. I text the driver explaining the issue. He calls the manager. Manager tells him they're having issues with the phone system and that he'll call me shortly. An hour later, no call from the manager. I try calling MDI again and more voicemail. I text the driver again asking for the manager's number. He provides it. I call the manager, Calvin(?) (who said he was the acting manager for the day or something) and I ask what the confusion was. He said it was delivered by mistake. I ask why the rock looks different and I was told it needs to be hosed off probably. So now I've got 2.5 tons of rock sitting in front of my house on trash collection day, not in the location that I would've wanted it and have to leave work earlier than planned to shovel the rock off the street before my homeowner's association fines me and the rock may or may not match the rock I assumed I was getting. Edit: Updating review to take out some pointed language calling them clowns. Just frustrated looking at a pile of rock on my street that could cause me problems with my HOA. The delivery driver was not the issue. Very nice guy. Just doing his job and he was responsive. Kudos to him and thank you for your effort. Bumping up to 3 stars for management responding on Yelp. Recommend that MDI management implement day-prior calls as a best practice to avoid these communication issues. read more

Mdi was great with communication on delivery day. However, when we walked into MDI, we let the employee who helped us know that we needed 10 tons of quarter minus. We had just left the synthetic grass store and had our order sheet in hand and showed this to the MDI employee when trying to determine which type of minus we should get. She told us that we really needed 17 tons of it, not 10. Turns out we should not have listened to MDI. The project is now over and we have 7 tons of minus sitting in the street that we have no idea what to do with. Over sold on product even though we knew exactly how much we needed AND they don't offer any sort of pickup service, was even willing to pay a fee to get it over with. read more

MDI Rock Rocks. I needed 6-8 tons of a certain type of gravel. Of course my phone was acting up when tried to make the order and kept disconnecting on MDI. I hate to admit this but it was 6-8 times. Most places would have got rude with it repeatedly happening but each and every time there was a friendly voice answering. I finally got my order in and I requested exactly what I was told by the landscaper installer. They showed up with EXACTLY what I had requested right on time as they promised. The problem my landscaper got the color/type of rock wrong. Fully my fault for not double checking and I took responsibility for it but MDI went above and beyond to resolve this. The biggest lesson learned take the time and go down to the office, use your eyes in natural light and match the color. If us as the customer make the mistake of ordering the wrong items it's on us to cover the expense of changing it out. This is not like ordering a pizza folks so if you do mess up take ownership and don't blame everyone else. Plus if you do go down and take a look trust me you probably find even better options that are available. Driver was awesome. No rush no pressure and laid the gravel in 4 perfect piles. Really impressive how exact it was dropped. Answered every question and clearly wanted me completely satisfied before he left. Thanks for a great job. read more

Totally shocked!!! Been Doing business with mdi rock for 8 years. I have bought well over 150 tons of rock from them all the same color. My last 12 tons I bought yesterday on APRIL 20th, 2022 was totally the wrong color. Go to website (www.mdirock.com/) and look at cinnamon brown versus what was delivered to me, it was grey and white. The Manger came to my house and said it's the same rock lol. He then told me once this rock breaks down it gets darker. I offered him a hammer to show me. He declined. He then tells me because he has worked at MDI Rock for 6 years, the rock I have been buying for the last 8 years and is on my property is not cinnamon brown, it is black cherry. I told him I know what black cherry is because we wanted that rock years ago but ended up being to dark when we brought home the sample 8 years ago. Black Cherry is darker than what I have. He gives me sample at the yard of black cherry to bring home to see if it matches to what I been buying the last 8 years. So, I amused him and brought home about 8 Black Cherry rocks, guess what? It is darker than the rock I been buying for the last 8 years. IT IS NOT BLACK CHEERY! AND THE ROCK YOU DELIVERED IS NOT CINNAMON BROWN! He tried to then tell me that the rock color is subject to change. I agree with that. It could be off some. Matching paint, tile, granite counter tops...... I get it. But it's still close and in the same color family!!! Lol This rock is grey, white and light blue with very little light tan in it and that is only in some of the rocks. NOT cinnamon or Brown's. So, he said he would get with the owner of the company/ Michael R. Denny and see what they could do for their valued customer. The owner/ Michael R. Denny said.... not refunding it and he will charge me over $300 to come pick it up out of my yard. Plus, I still have to buy the right colored rock. Again, go look at the website ( www.mdirock.com/ ) or drive over and look at what they are calling Cinnamon Brown now. The funny thing is, Rob Black the Manager found a little bit of my Cinnamon Brown rock that I been buying for 8 years off to the side of the color they are now calling cinnamon Brown. He even said is wasn't close. He said is was missing browns, dark pinks, blacks and purples. Michael Denny nor Rob Black called me back. They have an office guy call me to tell me they are not crediting the rock and if I want it out of my yard, they will charge me over $300 to come get it. I said to the office guy well your owner is a piece of shit, But I agree to you getting it off my property for the $300, I have no choice at this point. Before I could finish that sentence, he hangs up on me. I called back 3 times and he does not pick up. The last time he picked up then hung up. So, I then went over to their office to explain to them I want them to pick it up the rock and I will pay the $300, and yes, I was pissed after this news and being hung up on. I was there to pay and schedule the rock pick up. The office guy tells me he is not going to do business with me and to leave the property. I said really because I said the owner is a piece of shit? Well, guess what he is. He then tells me he is calling the police if I don't leave. I offered to get on the phone with the police and give them all my information. He didn't accept. So as the police asked questions, I give him everything he needed about me to make the report. So, after all this of course I'm am even pissed off more, who wouldn't be? Rob Black the Manger there is an idiot trailer park dumbass and shouldn't be managing anything but the unemployment line. Really make white rock into brown and purple??? The owner is a total tool, real asshole all this over $500 of rock? I been a customer for 8 years. They kicked me off their property and called the police on me. Which was a joke the police did nothing. Even the police officers were like seriously that's what they sent you? It's not even close to being brown. I'd be pissed off to the officer said. But he said he wouldn't have handled it the same way. I agreed. This is one local company you don't want to do business with. I belong to every chamber of commerce up here in Yavapai County including cottonwood and Sedona's. I will be spreading the word. This is a great source for DIY folks. They are also well equipped to haul to locations large and small. As for the DIY part, they always take time to help me with my relatively small purchases of say, $20- $30 of rocks I can haul home in my car each trip, which is a lot more stone volume-wise than you might think. Most of their sales are high volume compared to mine (understatement) but they treat me and other walk-ins I have noticed with great service. There are a lot of natural and man-made stone options. The absolute worst! I am shocked they have managed to remain in business. This may be the most poorly run business I have yet run into. They have a beautiful building and nice displays but that is where it ends. Staff is a nightmare from the front desk, to the driver, up to the owner. My entire experience was a complete nightmare. It started with an indifferent / rude sales staff, moved on to the driver calling me at home at 6:00 a.m. and literally yelling at me saying he wasn't going to do my job because I had the temerity to call in the middle of the day and ask (after 3 weeks of waiting) where things were with my job (he never returned my calls until the 6:00 am call). After that experience, I tried several tries to reach the owner and was finally able to talk with him and was met with non-sensical excuses and complete indifference about me or my potential 10K of business. Completely inappropriate behavior for any business. I have since found at least two other reputable and professional companies to do my job. Two callused and dirt-stained thumbs up! We had two separate orders of large river rock delivered to our abode, which involved elaborate maneuvering and backing up of trucks through a small gate. The truck drivers were great about it. The rock is exactly what we needed, and the price reasonable (although delivery costs more than the product, natch). My only complaint is that they were late delivering because of truck issues, but no one bothered to call us and let us know. Not the end of the world, but still. I ordered acorn-sized gravel and they Quick to deliver rock to my house. Once they got me to sign, the dumped a covered load of the WRONG sized rock onto my driveway and drove off leaving watermelon-sized boulders on my driveway. Have called at least 6 times, spoke to one of the managers (anthony) and still have not recieved a call back or any solutions. Great company if you get what you ordered, but if they make a mistake don't expect them to fix it. I still have a pile of the oversized boulders in my driveway. avoid this company! read more

Dewey, AZ. Took samples of our grey driveway rock and our natural soil to help pick a color that was complementary for our landscaping. The contact on our prior phone call was extremely helpful in giving advice and calculating quantity which would be a 5 star for us. Free delivery on 10 tons and the expertise of the delivery driver were also worth a 5 star rating. Where the service was a total fail was in the rock that was delivered to us. We ordered the cinnamon based on the sample color at the site and were willing to pay a premium price since it matched out color needs so well. What we received was rock that was mostly dingy grey that is not much different from our cheaper driveway gravel. It looks like we tried to match that driveway stuff and just made a mistake. This gravel color is important to us which is why we went to the trouble to pick something we liked. They do not guarantee the color. read more

Ordered 40 tons of rock for Friday delivery in south Scottsdale. They had 4 trucks in the shop so they sent someone from Dewey to make.the delivery.as scheduled. 24 tons was delivered by 3:30p and they were going to send the guy back to the Rose Garden yard to get the last 16 tons to finish the order as promised. This would have put the poor driver back.home after 8p on a Friday night! They went out of their way to honor their commitment. They worked with me so I reciprocated and told them to let rhe driver go back home and to deliver the rest on Saturday. You have my future business MDI! read more
