For many many years Sprinfield Diner has been a favorite go to, for me and my family. That changed tonight when a cockroach ran across the table while we were eating. Went to the manager with PHOTOGRAPHIC proof. I was essentially called a liar. He said "that is not ours". I walked him to the table, where the COCKROACH WAS STILL ON THE WALL!!! The resolution? Our barely eaten dessert was comped. That's it. At the register I asked if he really felt that comping our dessert was the best resolution to the situation. I was told yes, and that is the first time they had ever seen one. If a roach is all of the way out at just about the farthest place from the kitchen, you can bet the whole restaurant is crawling with them. WILL NEVER RETURN, and for the sake of your health, I would strongly reccomend thinking long and hard before eating there. I took a 2nd picture from a farther distance to show that this is all legit. I wish I could give them 0 stars. I went today with my mother & we both ordered the rueben & soft drinks. When our food arrived the corned beef was completely rancid. I do not know how the cook could have missed how foul this food smelled. We alerted the waitress who appeared mortified & very apologetic. She asked if we wanted something else & we declined. However I was still charged for our half drank sodas. When the matter was brought up to management he was dismissive & passive. I have 0 confidence that meat was tossed. I found it very much in poor taste & tacky to still charge us for a soda & we didn't even eat our meal based on their unsanitary kitchen. I have visited Springfield Diner off and on over the past few years, and the service and food are pretty consistent. A pretty good variety of selections, considering it is a diner and the prices are reasonable. The servers have always seemed to be nice. Wow. I came here while visiting the area for a family function, and despite the relatively bleak atmosphere and average diner decor; the food, service, and overall experience was extraordinary. Our server was busy but attentive ~ and the timing of service was incredible. Not to mention, the hospitality of the staff was very welcoming and comfortable. All in all, I could see opportunity for improvement in the aesthetic - but! The aesthetic did not hold this quaint spot back from going above and beyond my expectations! Used to live near this location when I was a kid. I was passing by and was hungry and wanted breakfast. I was seated immediately and ordered a coffee, Eggs Benedict/sausage, Toasted bagel. Coffee: probably the worst I had in a long time. Reminded me of "8 O'Clock" coffee which despised. Sugar and cream didn't help it. Eggs Benedict: Good thing was a very thick piece of ham, but the Hollandaise sauce was just not good, somewhat sweet to the taste. Eggs were a "tad" undercooked, not too bad. Bagel: I told the waitress I wanted it toasted with butter. Bagel was cold border line stale and No butter was given to me. After a long wait, I flagged her down and she came with the butter. Good thing they keep the butter in the freezer. I always prefer "ROCK SOLID" butter on my bagel, so it's impossible to spread. So I took the butter pad and floated it in my yukky but hot coffee. Maybe it made the coffee taste better, didn't want to try. I like jelly on my bagel and I see the Wide assortment of Jellies on all the tables, let's see, Grape, Grape, Grape and Grape. Maybe I should try Grape. Sausage links were actually good and so were the potatoes. I like small amount of hot sauce on my Eggs, and I like a larger assortment of hot sauces, I usually ask for hot sauce, "anything" but Tabasco, and that's the only one they had. Service: was extremely slow, I waited very long for the check, so I went up to the cash register and asked my waitress for the check. While waiting to pay for my meal, I noticed a large assortment of Pastries. I purchased 2 kinds. When I got home, the pastries were as good as the stale bagels. There are a ton of options on the menu to suit anyone's breakfast/brunch cravings and this diner is also clean, and has deserts that you can get to go. A simply terrible experience. A week earlier we had dinner at their other location; The Brandywine Diner in Delaware and it was great. Hard to believe. The four of us got there at 6:15 PM and it was after 7:00 PM when two of us got our beverages. Still no Soup, Salad or Bread after 45 Minutes. 3 of the entrees arrived 90 minutes after we arrived. As far as Bread; our waitress brought us 3 rolls for 4 people. The gravy on all the entrees had a skin and the food was cold. Our waitress promised to come with more rolls and refills but that never happened. When it came to dessert she was confused as what we were entitled to with the entrees we ordered. The manager came to assist and show her how to separate the checks. He asked us to forgive her as she was new to their systems and I tipped 20% based on that. We left 8:15; 2 hours after getting there. WTF? Never going back! read more

I came with a party of 40 for a late lunch after a funeral. We all came from out of town so we couldn't go to a local family member's house. The staff welcomed us graciously and allowed us to basically take over the large dining room in the back. All the family and friends enjoyed the food. I had the veggie burger and the fries. Perfect diner food. We were able to stay and chat for over 3 hours - no one pressured us to leave. We all grabbed some of their excellent pastries to tide us over for the trips home. Oh, how I hate to write this review. I've been going to The Springfield Diner for over five years now, maybe not once a month, but every other month either taking Dad for breakfast or having a long catch-up lunch with a girlfriend. Breakfasts have been spot on, lunch selections are not only good but ginormous and I always take 1/2 of my sandwich home. And their cheesecakes are to die for! Our waitress was friendly, attentive and a real asset to the place. Some of the other waitresses are not as friendly and the tall, grouchy/grumpy and intimidating men (owners???) who are always hanging around the register make the place not very inviting at all when you first walk in. They look mean, they don't smile and they really should hang out somewhere else and hire a pleasant host or hostess; someone who knows how to greet their customers in a nice way. I stopped in with my girlfriend last night for dinner around 5pm. My Dad had a procedure at a local hospital the day before and I hadn't eaten again all day (see my review of Walt's Steaks located in Landsdowne). I ordered the fried clam dinner. It came with a choice of soup or salad and two sides. I ordered the beef orzo soup, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. The beef orzo soup .... umm, umm good! I don't think it's possible to get much better than that! It tasted homemade with chunks of carrots, celery, a little bit of beef and lots of orzo. Very flavorful. My dinner arrived: a plate with a nice amount of clams, a side bowl of coleslaw and a small plate with sweet potato fries. Let me work backwards here. My sweet potato fries were good looking and tasty but were not hot and crispy; they were warm at best and bent when I picked them up unlike a fried fry that will not wilt. My coleslaw serving was huge and could have easily been split between two people. It was good. My fried clams ... there were the customary curly clams but there were also large, flat pieces of clams as well. I have never seen anything like this in any clam dinner I've ever had ... anywhere. The "regular" clams were hot and crispy and good but the large flat clams were tough, not hot or crispy. I'm questioning if they were some sort of inexpensive "filler clam" or a larger variety type of clam to make the entree appear larger than it was because when I separated the "regular" clams from the larger, flat pieces, the plate looked sad and empty. Mt fried clam dinner cost $16.95 which I felt was a little pricey. They offered lobster and steak selections that went as high as $29.95, which I think it outrageously high for diner food. I will go back to The Springfield Diner again but I'll stick with something safe, like a club sandwich and soup. read more

To start, this diner is one of my favorite breakfast stops in the area, after 12. I have to say this before I go into the finer detail that keeps me from giving this stop a full five stars. While I appreciated the speedy service, my water glass was not refilled once during my dining experience despite me being quite parched throughout the meal. The limited menu options also keep me from enjoying my experience time and time again. I do enjoy eggs, pancakes, waffles, and French toast, but the lack of variety is a big issue. Overall, this diner is a great place to have some ok food, not amazing, but ok. The atmosphere of the diner leaves much to be desired. The music, while it did play fan favorites such as "Sweet Caroline" and excerpts from the Beach Boys "The Endless Summer," was slightly too low and volume, and could only be heard during lulls of patrons dialogue. Also, the people that sat at the tables adjacent to mine were very interesting. They hailed from many socioeconomic classes. From the thirty year old men in their Jordan socks and monster energy drink at their side to accomplished business men in formal attire fraternizing with their distinguished colleagues, you will always fit in. This was integral to enjoying the meal. The most horrifying part of the experience was when I saw a server drop food and then, while no one was looking, put the food back on the plate. I not only lost my appetite, but lost years of trust that were built upon consistent Greek omelettes and burnt coffee. Typical diner, very busy on the weekends but the wait isn't that long. It's very large and clean. It also has a large menu and it's very overwhelming. We had a large group with a little one and our server was awesome! Props to her. I went with a turkey club and it was solid. The fries were the crispy soft ones too, yum. They only have Pepsi products though, bummer. The dessert case calls you by your first name when you walk in and lures you in when you are leaving too, everything was mouthwatering delicious in presentation but I held my ground and didn't indulge. I have eaten at the Springfield diner 3 maybe 4 times before and the food was very good. The service was decent and the diner appeared to be clean. I bragged on this place to my buddy so we met there for breakfast. We are not from the area so we went. We both ordered the California omelet with hashbrowns, fried onions and turkey bacon. The meal tasted very good. The next day I became severely ill. I woke up to cramped stomach, dry heaving, and diarrhea. This continued for several hours throughout the day. Finally my buddy called my and asked how i was feeling? I told him my situation and he related he felt the same way. We summarized that it has to be food poisoning from the diner! I called them and requested to speak with a manager but the man who answered in what is this reference to. I explained and he proceeded to down play the situation as if this couldn't have happened. Prior to concluding the call he said I'll tell the owner then hung up. He didn't ask for my name, number or anything. I'm alil pissed that complaints such as this is taking so lightly! THE FRENCH FRIES ARE SO DELICIOUS!!! Get them with a side of cheese and you can thank you me later. Seriously, though, this place is ridiculous. The menu is like 15 pages long. You can get anything from grilled cheese to shrimp scampi to a whole chicken. It's just silly. The panini I got was good, but I wish they chopped up the meat instead of leaving it in huge chunks because it was difficult to bite. The onion rings were good - not as crispy as I usually like, but the onion didn't pull out of the fried goodness so that was good. Usually one bite into an onion ring and you lose the whole onion! There was one morning that I was craving pancakes. Fluffy, warm, delicious pancakes, swimming in maple syrup. It was literally on my mind all day! I rushed home, and to no avail, no pancake mix. No worries there. I've always driven by the Springfield Diner, and somehow I knew that they would be able to take care of my cravings. And there it was. The Pancakes Deluxe with two eggs any style, and choice of ham, bacon, sausage, or scrapple. Perfect! I went with the sunny-side up eggs and bacon. And for added sweetness, I added chocolate chips and bananas to my pancakes. I didn't mind spending the few extra dollars or giving into the extra calories. My breakfast-for-dinner meal did not disappoint. My pancakes were as large as my plate, and the chocolate-banana filling was absolutely heavenly. Even though my eggs looked happy on my plate, I couldn't help but stab them so that the yolk would create a nice yellow pool for my bacon to dip in. I also added some hot sauce to give it a nice kick. The bacon? Not as crispy as I would have liked, but it had the nice salty flavor that help balance the sweetness of the pancakes. Surprisingly, I finished my meal. Service was friendly, and the server kept my water glass full. I left the diner happy! This is how to satisfy your cravings. You go all out, and don't look back. My breakfast there today convinced me. They deserve the 4 star upgrade. I've had enough meals here in the past year since my last review to tell that they have their act together for the most part. I would say the dinners are higher end diner quality. No, they're not gourmet good. But they are hearty down-home good most of the time. But this place is making a killing at breakfast. Of course, weekends are the breakfast crowd, and despite what appears to be a line outside looking like you could be waiting there 45 minutes, I've never had to wait longer than 15. They are incredibly efficient at managing their huge space. Now they say that you can't argue with a place that's always crowded. I submit that may not always be true. After all, Springfield is the place that has an Outback Steakhouse which averages nearly a two hour wait on weekends, as well as an Olive Garden and a Red Lobster close by that challenge that two hour barrier at times. For the life of me, I don't understand that. But in this case, the crowd knows what they are doing. A short stack of pancakes is filling enough to last you the whole day, and the fruit they serve with them is cut nice and fresh. I'm learning as I have them more and more that the hash browns have a wonderful potato taste to them. Not too brown, cooked at just the right level, just right in the end. Omelets are perfectly constructed. Even the turkey sausage I ordered was big and juicy. Maybe the occasional dinner doesn't live up to the hype. DESSERTS review ONLY! Love love love their chocolate strawberries because the chocolate is not too sweet and I love that. It has a rich dark coco taste. It's a hit or miss on the strawberries though: sometimes it's a sweet one and sometimes not. I tried everything with strawberries and love that the cream that they use is not too sweet either. It's like they make desserts for diabetics or something. So some may not like that but I definitely do and don't like overly sweet desserts from anywhere. read more
