    Uncle Bob cooking up breakfast!
    Nancy E.

Small family business where you hear, "Thanks Uncle Bob! Breakfast was great. Leaving to open a table for other customers." "Drive safe." "Please" "Thank you.l "God bless you." 8 booths, 3 tables and 11 counter seats. Everyone is hustling! Close on Mondays for now. Sat at the counter and loved watching "Bob" cook. Standard scrambled eggs & sausage. Good pricing. Clean. Good service. I'll be back next time I'm coming through Clifton Heights.

They know how to cook! Buried back in my memories is this place. Maybe, my memories are playing tricks on me, but I could swear my buddy (and sometimes, his wife) and I would go there late at night. The hours are like 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. now, so no more late nights. It wasn't the kind of place people claim as "drunk food"--this was too good for that. After my not so great meal at Andy's Diner yesterday, I wanted some place that wasn't a problem--Llanerch Diner, Manoa Diner, Red Lion Diner, or Olympic Diner. Red Lion Diner on Red Lion Rd. in Northeast Philly seems to be gone, crab cakes and all. I got to Llanerch Diner (on Township Line Rd. in Upper Darby/Havertown), on the other side of the road, and thought that I wanted something I knew, where there were good memories. Manoa Diner had changed hands a while back and wasn't it, so I drove down to Clifton Heights and found Olympic. I'd never been there in the morning, and didn't know their routine. I took a place on the counter, and after about 1 minute, one of the women asked me what I wanted to drink. After that, I figured that I'd try the same thing I had the previous day: scrapple, scrambled eggs, home fries, and toast. I tried to cancel the toast, but "it comes with the meal" I was told. I'm not that into bread. The other woman was cooking, and I could already see a couple thick slices of scrapple on the grill, since the grill was almost right in front of me. She had everything finished quickly and it looked great--no white potatoes or running scrapple. It tasted really good, almost as I remembered those times way back when. Isn't that the best? The women were friendly, and they seemed to be having fun with the regulars. The diner had all the old stainless steel bits and the jukebox at each booth. It felt like the kinda place you go when you're a neighbor, and everyone knows everyone else. I'd imagine that the place had been open since the 1940s or 1950s and hasn't changed much. It's so much more appealing than some chain restaurant.

The breakfast sausage was still partly raw--which seems to take a long time to correct. Pretty bad otherwise, even for a diner.

Stopped in here for breakfast food, and although I think the diner is a little dated, the food was good and the prices were better!

I love a diner. I'm originally from the northeast but live in SC now and we just don't have the…read moresame kind of diners that I had before - don't get me wrong, I love a Waffle House but it's not the same. This was a really great spot. My coworker and I were over in North Jersey for work but flew in and out of PHL rather than facing Newark. In order to beat the crazy construction traffic outside of Philly and to have a buffer for whatever TSA nightmare we were going to face, we got back near the airport early... like 4 1/2 hours before our flight kind of early. I wanted breakfast outside of the airport so I found this spot while he was refilling the rental car. I got the French toast with homefries. The french toast was perfect, with just a tiny bit of crisp in spot from the griddle. Same with the homefries. I would have liked a bit more seasoning while they were cooking, but a bit of salt and pepper and I was good to go. My coworker got the big breakfast but subbed out the homefries for corned beef hash. While I'm not a fan of corned beef hash, it looked exactly like how my mom and grandfather like it, with a little bit of crisp to it. The pancake was huge and he said his over medium eggs were cooked exactly like he hoped they would be. Now I just need to plan out my flights so I can come get breakfast here again and try one of the sandwiches, or omelettes, or maybe get French toast again...

After an early morning drop-off at the airport, we ducked into Folcroft Diner for breakfast. More…read moretimes than not I order something non-breakfast-y for my first meal of the day. Today was no exception. Their grilled chicken sandwich was not what I hoped for. On the plus side, it was a generous portion of chicken, most of which I took home. As a negative -- at least for me -- I like a flat filet, with grill marks. This was "chunky," rendering it clumsy to eat. It simply didn't taste grilled at all. And the chicken was dry. T ordered a country omelet that was filled with breakfast meats, cheddar and peppers. Though not my thing, I agreed it was pretty good. His grits were creamy, buttery and delicious. Coffee is strong and served in the old-fashioned heavy mugs that I favor. Our server was friendly. ("Where are you from?" she asked, picking up on my Brooklyn accent.) I asked if Greek lemon soup is ever on the menu. She said that the owners are Turkish, then gave me a rundown of their specialties, all of which sound delish. (Alas, no avgolemono.) I wouldn't hesitate to return to Folcroft. The menu is diverse, the restaurant is clean -- as pointed out by another Yelper AND our waitress. If you order the right thing, you'll no doubt be pleased.
