My family was looking for a new place to have brunch and we found this wonderful spot. It's right on Haverford Avenue but there is free parking in the back. Plenty of seating. There was a sign in the front telling us to seat ourselves. We found a nice sized booth and the most charming server came to greet us and get us started with drinks. We had a tough time deciding on food because the menu had so many choices! Big breakfast platters. Omelets. Pancake varieties. Fish. Grits. Waffles. If you can think of what you would love for brunch and this restaurant has it. We ordered a little of everything and the entrees were delicious. Also, our server was so sweet and helpful. I did take off one star because the restaurant interior needs updating. But, it's clear from the amount of people who come here for good service and a good meal that the experience is worth so much more than fancy decor. read more

I have gone to the Green Leaf Restaurant many times when I lived in Overbrook Park (1985-1998), and since I moved to Overbrook (2019-present). The food has always been delicious; the staff has been friendly, and the service good. However, yesterday's visit has me seriously considering not to return. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and my server was there in about 10 minutes to take my order. She asked what I wanted to drink. About a minute later, she asked, "Was that Diet Coke you wanted?" She brought my drink, and a juice glass of ice. When I asked for a larger glass, the reply was, "We don't have none." I asked for a bowl of cabbage soup. When she brought it, I realized that it was chicken noodle soup. She was nowhere to be seen, so I ate it. I mentioned that it was good chicken noodle soup, although I'd asked for cabbage soup. Her reply was, "Well, at least it was good." The rest of my order was served, the plates slammed onto the table. The food was delicious as always, butI had to ask the young man who was clearing tables for cheese and pepper seeds. He brought the pepper seeds, and my server suddenly materialized and slammed the container of cheese on the table. When I paid my bill, there was no tip. I love getting breakfast from here. I usually get pancakes, eggs, beef bacon & beef sausage. Today I wanted some french toast. This was by far the most dry & tasteless french toast I have ever had. Literally tastes like bread with a little bit of cinnamon on it. The beef bacon was not good either. The bacon never looks like this. Good evening Yelp Family!! I have been patronizing this diner for many moons. I used to like to go when Diane was on duty. Diane used to be a waitress there and she worked there for a very long time. I understand that now Diane is retired. I like coming here for breakfast, but my mom and I have patronized this diner for lunch. I love the french toast and my mom enjoys the buttermilk pancakes. Recently a Pastor from my church was kind enough to invite all of the members who participated in a Soup MInistry to an early breakfast. On my visit yesterday, I purchased a Chef Salad with french dressing, no green peppers, no shredded cabbage and a roll with butter. Another name for the salad was a julienne salad. I had ordered take out and I called it in before I arrived. Jessica was nice. Jessica was the one that took my order over the phone. I also ordered three beverages: cranberry juice, Crush orange soda and an Orange Juice. When I arrived home to eat the salad, Mom wanted a portion. I also ordered French dressing for the salad. It was good, however the gentleman who used to prepare salads is no longer there. I could tell there was a difference, because the salad used to come in a different container and the lunchmeat was arranged so neatly in the styrofoam container. Not only did Yelp process payment and send info confirming my order, but they then cancelled due to WiFi issues with the restaurant and didn't call to inform me. A message popped up as I checked the time to open the door for expected driver. I called and can't receive the refund until 3-5 days and the restaurant is now closed. Total inconvenience!! Hold on funds and a simple call to the restaurant could have placed and confirmed the order. Instead i'm out of money and have to find an alternative. read more

If you are looking for standard diner type food, Green Leaf Restaurant is probably your best bet. My suggestion would be to go only for the breakfast food (only served until 1pm). They don't offer much of an overall breakfast selection but the service is good and your get your order rather quickly even when it is packed (usually on Saturday and Sunday mornings). The staff is friendly and the breakfast food is abundantly affordable (a breakfast for two people is easily under $12). The lunch menu is pretty decent and affordable but I would stay away from the dinner menu...definitely not their finest. read more

On opening day my office ordered lunch specials from Green Leaf. There were about 7 of us and we were eager to take advantage of their $6 - $7 lunch specials (entree, chicken fried rice (or white), choice of soup). The staff does not seem to have any previous restaurant experience and the manager was unable to assist when things went south. Our order was incomplete and incorrect, we were overcharged and it took over 1 hour to get our takeout food. A party of 6 was seated by the entrance. As their waiter walked towards them with a tray full of water glasses he faltered and spilled the entire tray on himself & his patrons. At the same time a woman walked in and asked if her takeout order was ready. No one had taken down her name, so the cashier gave her a blank stare and said, "What did the guy on the phone sound like? Was it him? (pointing at the soaked server)" Another guy walked in for takeout and it was at this point that the cashier started hitting himself in the face with a menu and muttering something to himself. The food was heavy on the sauce, but not too greasy. The portions were a great deal for the price. We'll most likely be back to see if they've worked through their first day jitters. What do you say about a place that has good days and bad days. A place where the star rating varies from 1 or 2 two 4 or 5. A place where I've ordered steak and eggs... And the stake looked and felt like a hockey puck. Or, the time I found mold on my toast. I come here when I'm in town visiting Grandma. This place reminds me of a diner type but homey....I missed that back in the days of my diner adventures, these places don't really exist anymore in Brooklyn. I have only had breakfast here, but the Green Leaf is a typical diner. Nothing extravagant, however still good. The coffee is not my favorite, but the omelets are solid and the pancakes are excellent. The waitstaff is very friendly, it is fairly clean and the food is very affordable. First, I frequent this restaurant after church often. I couldnt wait to get a cup of coffee, which is usually delicioys here. The cooffee on this day was disguisting. Second, I found a mouse dropping on my toast. Then was advised that it was either a piece of bacon or poppy seed. As if bacon is in the toaster or poppy seeds are oval in shape. I couldn't believe they insulted my intelligence. Just admit it and apologize. I asked for the manager, the server stated it wasn't one present. It's a basic diner, run by a family that has owned it for a long time. I'm gonna say part of why I like it is because while nearly every other great restaurant in Greater Overbrook ran away/closed as white people moved away, Green Leaf stayed and today is the only place I know of like it where you can see a diverse group of diners, proving that as long as you have customers with money to pay for service you can make money with a diner in any neighborhood. So shame on other places for arbitrarily closing down because of "the neighborhood". Food is always good, nothing fancy or innovative. I've been coming here since I was a teenager. This place serves solid, no-frills breakfast food. The pancakes are delicious. I've never had a bad meal here, although I've only ever eaten their breakfast. The service is efficient and the food hits the spot. Well - do you want the good news first or the bad news first ? Let's start out on a high note because it was Sunday after church and my Mother was really hungry and so was my son . 1) We waited almost an hour before they even took our order 2) No place settings - knives, forks , napkins etc. 3) The sign says seat yourself but maybe they should re-think that procedure 4) Once we got attention - silver ware and napkins were just laid out for us like we were a bunch of cattle 5) Waitress totally missed our order of scrapple for my son and mother who did want some type of meat with their grits and eggs 6) We got no butter which was asked for like the scrapple ......7) We were in their for over 2 hours mostly waiting ......And the waitress did not get the order right ! Most importantly it was not even busy .......It was not a good experience and now I remember why I have forgotten about the GREENLEAF . The waitress was nice and pleasant but we felt passed over - not good but the food was hot and tasty . Straightforward, homey diner with solid breakfast options; no frills but that's what I love about it. Reminds me of diners in the outer boroughs of NYC from before the 90s and the franchised frenzy that took over the city. Will be back again. Nothing Special, the lunch special may be worth it for $7.00 but when you roll in for takeout and its gonna cost ya $12 for a chicken entree, you tend to expect more. The General Tso's is Good, definately quality but nothing to die over, and the space is small and cozy, but without delivery I'll probably not be stopping down too much. The Green Leaf has consistently great food, good prices, and a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. It has been a favorite of my family for years, especially for brunch. (My father, who has an eagle's eye for good food and good bargains, comes here often enough that the waitresses sometimes ask him if he wants to bother looking at the menu). However, I don't think I fully appreciated the place until I moved away from Philadelphia. In the years that have followed, I've noticed that I have had a very, very hard time finding Belgian waffles or omelets that live up to the Green Leaf standards. On the rare occasion that I do find something similar, it is invariably a lot more expensive. So if you are looking for a good brunch pick in the Philly/Main Line area, I highly recommend trying out the Green Leaf Restaurant. read more

Visiting the area from Boston, and happened onto the Greenleaf. This place serves TRUE FOOD - it's all carefully prepared, fresh, from real ingredients. The other reviewers are saying breakfast is great, which doesn't surprise me, but we had dinner there and we were very pleased. I had the fried chicken, which I'd been craving for a while, and it hit the spot. My daughter had the broiled shrimp, which was also tasty. Ok - well first off, this site has Green Leaf Restaurant listed twice (same address, etc) once as regular restaurant and the second time in the Chinese food category! It is definitely an American type food restaurant, not Chinese. I happen to really like Green Leaf...yes especially for their great basic but good breakfasts along with good breakfast service always, but my Dad and I had gone there every Friday night for dinner up until about 4 months ago when he passed away, and we both had our favorites! I'm smitten with Green Leaf's chicken Caesar salad smothered with their dressing. I usually ask for a larger bowl to toss it into and enjoy. It's probably the best chicken Caesar I've had - and I really do get around! Also, they make a terrific chicken parm - so good that I frequently do take-out chicken parm dinners for myself and hubby. Then there's the chicken soup - whether it's with orzo or rice or noodles, does not matter, but it's awesome anytime, and I think it's cured my family of many a sniffle/cough and other respiratory illnesses! Oh - and the fried eggplant as a side...now where the heck can you get fried eggplant anymore? It's excellent and I begin salivating the moment that request leaves my lips.
