I came to this diner when I got hungry while trainspotting at the train station. I got a bacon omelet with cheddar cheese and it was beyond incredible. They gave me hot sauce for it and I enjoyed it. I love the fact that the restroom uses a hand dryer (it's better for the environment), but what I love even more is the fact that the waitresses were willing to track down a train to Center City for me. And that's without mentioning that you can get a fantastic view of the Northeast Corridor looking out the front windows. I had the most horrible experience with the waitresses who happened to be all white and obviously have a problem with black women. I say this because I was there for over 40 mins with no one offering me not even water while the customers in front behind and to the side of me was getting asked if they needed anything else. When I finally asked to be served not only did I get an attitude the female just walked away without taking my order. i then got up and asked for the manager who was an elderly lady very pleasant and she took my order while the waitress I asked for help started getting really rude because I pointed out I asked her for help and she walked away. I specifically say they have a problem with black women because this is my third time here with the same experience but when a black man came in it was all smiles and customer service. A typical diner setting, autumnal in colors, browns, greens, auburns, what you expect to see at a diner. The waitress was really friendly, nice, and accommodating. I asked for a custom sandwich which I received no issue. I asked for a chicken cheese steak with provolone, bacon, hot sauce, and banana peppers. The sandwich was pretty good but it could have used a little more sauce and pepper. Liked that the chicken was really chopped up tiny. It was a pretty big sandwich. Not the greatest diner in the world, but by far not even close to the worst! I recently stopped by for lunch. Plenty of parking can be found on their private lot. There was plenty of seating available and my server was nice. My order was simple two eggs, bacon and potatoes with rye toast. The menu was huge and I was tempted to go with one of their "porker" sandwiches, but it seemed like too much food, so maybe on another visit. I think the menu is the key here, it's massive on all fronts: the breakfast side, sandwich, salad and entrees. Whether the quantity matches the quality is the big question, but you could literally eat something different for a couple of months straight! While I was waiting for my food I took a look around. The inside looks like it was updated in the last ten or so years, but they have or had some ceiling leaks. Gotta replace those tiles guys! Other than that everything seemed to be pretty typical of a diner. They have a small bar seating area when you come in, a small dining area against the front window and then a main dining area consisting of booths and tables. They had a TV in the main dining area with the news at noon on. Food came out pretty quick and everything was just fine. They gave a generous portion of bacon. I had to rely on ketchup to get them down and flies kept landing on us during our meal which was both gross and annoying. The ceiling also looks really water damaged and like it needs to be replaced. The waitress got two checks wrong and never asked us if we wanted anything else before even bringing the checks. Coming here for 5 years and for some reason I checked the reviews for Stargate today. I was surprised that I saw a couple of Negative reviews. Come on people this is a suburban Diner not a five star Philly dining destination. It should be reviewed like a hometown diner. I would also add that there is plenty of offstreet parking and as it's conveniently located on Chester Pike, just a stone's throw away from interstate 95, It's a good place to try if you're just looking for some casual food at very reasonable prices in a pleasant atmosphere. For commuters it is literally down the steps from the train station Today's meal: The BB (Baltimore Beau) had a Fried flounder sandwich and absolutely loved it. He said that the flounder was very fresh and the breading was light. I who am not a fan of fried or breaded food wasn't convinced unless I took a taste. I did and I agreed with him that it tasted very fresh. I had the Santa Fe salad. I was given the option to have it delivered as made or to have it chopped. I am so glad I picked the chopped option. My deep dish of salad greens was chopped in such a fashion that they were nicely bite-size and the Santa Fe seasoned chicken on top was plentiful. I ate a third of it and when full I brought leftovers home. At Stargate you'll be assured that portion sizes are generous. As for staff it always seems to be staffed by somebody in charge and it shows. The wait staff are pleasant, quick and accurate in delivery of items ordered. The boyfriend remarked that the place looked like it had recently been redone but I told him that it's been a few years and that it probably looks so good because they keep it so clean. After the six and a half hour drive to the six hour concert (Hella Mega Tour- phenomenal show!) the Kid and I needed something more than the gas station sausages we'd scarfed on the way. And Yelp mentioned the existence of Stargate Diner. As dyed-in-the-wool nerds, you know we had to come here! First things first- they're open 24/7 for indoor dining, and some of the staff are masking, but not all. The coffee is delicious; I didn't need to add anything to it. On the way in, we spotted a cake in the case that looked like a cheesecake between two layers of chocolate cake. So we ordered slices. Sadly, I neglected to ask Sharon to bring them right away. When she brought our sandwiches, I told her to go ahead and bring the cake, but our sandwiches were a pleasant memory before the cake ever arrived; a testament to our great hunger, not a comment on her speed. Kid got a Pizza Steak- a Philly cheesesteak with marinara and mozzarella. I was ordered to take my picture immediately or forever hold my peace. I'm glad I did, as he almost literally inhaled it. I ordered the Stargate Burger- a burger with bacon, mushrooms, Russian dressing, and Swiss cheese. It came on a beautifully soft brioche bun with plenty of cheese, bacon and mushrooms. It was kind of drippy, and I had to flag our server down for napkins, our table being the only one in the dining room that didn't have napkins and silverware laid out. The fries were lightly salted, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. I put pepper on them, as I do, and actually needed to take the lid off the shaker, as their pepper is too coarse to fit through the holes. I never did get the pickle I ordered. The cake was, indeed, a homemade plain cheesecake between two layers of chocolate cake and topped with chocolate ganache. The cheesecake alone was worth the day on short rations. We ought to have split one instead of having to box up the leftovers. The joint was jumping, and at least a couple of the other tables were concertgoers, too; the mixed blessing of being the only 24 hour restaurant in a 20 minute drive of the stadium. I knocked off a star because I had to ask for napkins and a refill on my coffee, and for my MIA pickle, but honestly, it's a very nice place, with good food and coffee, and for as busy as they were, it's not like the service was bad. This was a poor experience. First impressions were the place is filthy, all the employees I saw had low standards in personal hygiene, and they conducted themselves unprofessionally. The spinach and feta omelette was unsavory. The rye toast was the best thing I had :/. Since the waitress was gave me minimal service and I had to call her over when I needed something, I gave her the minimal 15% tip. The cashier gave me a hard time about it! He was a strange cat. Been here a few times in the past. Regular experiences. Decided to go again at night after a game with my daughter and mother . We all ordered and I got a salad with my meal. I was eating that for quite a while and started to get paranoid. I told my mom I think I'm getting flashbacks from the past of another place so maybe it's not what I think. When the server came over with the rest of the food, I dipped my finger into the salad and brought something up close ...... and it was a little BUG on it's back still alive and kicking . I ordered the Grilled Chicken Greek salad with oil n vinegar dressing. The portion was amazingly huge, enough for 2 . The grilled chicken was fresh and seasoned just right, not bland not overly seasoned but perfect! I also ordered the Meatloaf and double mashed with gravy. HOLD ON...STOP...this meal surpasses your expectations! The meatloaf was as if I made it in my own kitchen! We made our own (spinach, onions, sausage) with hash browns on the side. Listen, we are both food snobs but even he said this was the best omelette he has had in PA (partially because of how cheap it was and the large portion). The diner is very clean. They have staff working to make sure things look clean and neat. The waitress and hostess were pleasant. I got a filet of flounder meal with mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli and French onion soup. The flounder was seasoned well and the broccoli was steamed well and tasted great with melted butter. Mashed potatoes needed a little more seasoning but it tasted good with the brown gravy. The French onion soup was very good. I got dessert and the carrot cake was awesome. The Cheesesteak had a decent flavor. But, my French fries were a touch cold, the service was a touch slow, it was $10 and aren't panini's grilled? Well, well, well, if it isn't a decent diner directly near my home that I avoided and I feel like a fool for waiting this long. This seems like a big home town diner in a small town. The staff seemed friendly but it was so crowded I couldn't tell. (Covid aside) This seems like a nice place for a Sunday breakfast or a take out order with consistency. I thought it was crowded, but lately any place where you can get a seat always seems packed. As for the food, it was good. I mean French toast and grits can't really go wrong. Be mindful the prices you see online (and the paper) menu have changed. So don't be surprised. We found this place on Yelp and pulled up, on our way from Philly to DC. It looked a little sketchy outside, TBH, but the menu was huge, the service was great and everything was so tasty!!
