I was cold and hungry after walking around the charming Hallmark town that is Media, PA. House looked inviting, so I stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. It was pretty quiet, so I was seated right away. There is a nice selection of Vegetarian friendly paninis. I ordered the featherweight sandwich with a side of potato wedges and Chipotle sauce. To drink, I ordered the mint tea, but I should've specified I wanted it hot because the server brought it to me iced. The sandwich was a good medley of flavors - tomato, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar -classic and delicious combo. The potato wedges were mouth-watering. I think I just have a thing for potatoes, roast them with some salt and seasoning like they did here, and they're perfect. When I was finished eating, I paid upfront and was on my way. I decided to try House in Media on this sunny Thursday around 12:30pm. Super cute, small but cozy place with a homie vibe. 2 parties of 2 were checked in before me and the wait was approximately 20 minutes, so I opted to place a to-go order. I ordered the: Brisket & Cheddar Skillet - Potato, Slow Braised Beef Brisket, Green Onion, Salsa Verde, Aged White Cheddar and Fried Eggs. Once I opened the container in my car, I immediately noticed over easy eggs, not fried. There were no green onions in the dish. The potatos were undercooked and very firm. The brisket was tender but not super flavorful and the salsa verde didn't do much along the lines of lifting the taste. I only ate the brisket. (1.5/5) I also ordered a half order of the House French Toast - Slowly soaked, Vanilla Bean Brioche French Toast w/real maple syrup. The French Toast did not disappoint! I definitely tasted the vanilla bean and it was a delight to eat. I just feel $7.75 is steep for half a piece of bread and $14 for the full slice...meh. Dropped by for brunch on a lazy Sunday morning--I had the omelet special-- presented in a cute cast iron pan of fluffy eggs, creamy salty smoked salmon which paired well with the hollandaise sauce that lightly bathed every bite. The southwest panini came piled with roasted Turkey, red peppers, and melted sharp cheese--I did not do much talking since my mouth was filled with food most of the time and I'll let the silence from across the table speak for itself. Excellent coffee and pleasant, caring waitstaff rounded out the excellent meal. Good to know: I believe parking in Media is free on Sundays or at least I've never been given a ticket and they can accommodate gluten sensitivities. read more

It's like 3.5 for me. They didn't have the entree that I first ordered so that was a bummer. My son thought the full Order of French toast was a little small but the dish was tasty. I think everyone was under whelmed with the breakfast potatoes. They were wedges but seemed over cooked and hard. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside which may be why the wait to order was a bit longer but overall the service was good. I stopped into House for the first time yesterday for lunch with my sister, and I was pleasantly surprised! The tomato soup was absolutely delicious. Usually I'm not a big tomato soup fan, but I loved this! The Winter Salad was also very tasty and light. I loved the goat cheese in the salad that made it a little creamy. The southwestern panini was also very good. I love that House offers a 1/2 and 1/2 option for lunch too. It lets you try so many different things on the menu depending on your mood. The 1/2 and 1/2 makes the meal extremely low cost too, and good food at an affordable price is always a plus in my book! I've been here years ago and back then it was pretty good. Today was a way different experience for so many reasons. We came in and immediately felt like it was a mistake when I saw the look on the servers face, seeing my four year old. We were then sat at the table directly next to the kitchen service door, under a speaker for the music. It felt like we were being put in a corner as not to disturb the other people without kids. We ordered a few mins after sitting. After we ordered, a table was sat next to us. We sat for at least 45 mins before ever receiving our food. The table next to us got their food and was half way through before the server came back to let us know it would be late and apologized. At some point before this I heard him ask the kitchen about the food . It wasn't clear who missed the order. Either the kitchen lost the ticket or the server forgot to put it in. Anyone with children knows that having a young child watching others get their food and still waiting is externally difficult and frustrating. He was pretty composed despite the situation though. When we finally got our food, the server again apologized. We got the kids the Mac and cheese which my son said was good. I got the house fries and the veg head panini. The fries tasted like oil with a dash of truffle and the panini also tasted like oil and loaded with goat cheese. The veggies were decent inside the sandwich. Overall I thought the food was pretty bad and for the amount of time we waited without an explanation, I would expect something to try to rectify the situation other than a sorry. Even bread and butter while we waited would have been sufficient. I would not recommend this place to any family ever. If you're childless and you like less than mediocre food with long wait times, this place is for you. I'll stick with better options like Bittersweet kitchen. I think House has had better days. Sidenote: the bathroom is disgusting. Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. read more

I really like House! It's always so hard to decide between House and Bittersweet Kitchen up the street. I have to say, House has better coffee, but Bittersweet has better breakfast potatoes. Each place has their strengths and weaknesses. I love the atmosphere of House as it's bright and shiny where as Bittersweet feels tighter with its dark colors. read more

We stopped by on a busy Wednesday night in Media during Dining Under the Stars. We wanted to go some place we could get seated quickly. When we called, we were told the restaurant was closing at 8 p.m. A few people were seated outside. No one was inside. Upon our arrival, we quickly ordered from the limited menu, and we were again reminded about the closing time. As my husband was in the middle of eating his meatloaf mac and cheese, he found a horrifyingly long hair in his food. No apologies were given although the item was taken off the bill. Between the lack of ambiance, the disinterested server, and the limited menu (which now made us question the restaurant's cleanliness), we will not be returning. read more

It can be pricy but, good service and high-quality food. Try the little Dutch Baby skillets, it's great with breakfast and feeds 1-2 as a side or desert. Brunch is the best, but their Mac & cheese won't disappoint. Their soups are great to freeze and heat up later. I keep a few in my freezer for rainy days. Their specials are consistently good, and rotate often. They have some great homemade ice teas too. They're accommodating when it comes to Gluten free bread for sandwiches and breakfast options. Some of the food cans be kind of rich, so I take part of it home to finish later. I don't eat a lot of meat, but their beef and pork dishes are consistently superb. read more

This is a lovely restaurant with homemade choices. I enjoyed the half sandwich of salmon BLT with a half order of Greek salad with humous. The waitress, Mary, was very accommodating. I have been wanting to try this place after my treks in Ridley Creek State Park. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. Great service, food and ambience as well as outdoor oil heated seating. "House" stands by it's name and is serving up comforts foods with a little gourmet/ gastropub flare e.g. "stack" grilled cheese. We came to House on a Saturday for brunch around 1pm. Place wasn't very crowded but it was fully seated. We put our name down with two people in front of us. We waited about 30-45 minutes and left. Although the place looked nice, the wait was far too long and neither the wait staff or manager came to us to assure us that we would be seated shortly. A quick "it should only be another 5 minutes" or an "I'm sorry about the wait, we will do our best to expedite your dish" would've gone a long way. My most recent experience here was for brunch. We wanted good food but somewhere classier than our usual options. We decided on House after seeing that they recently added brunch. They are BYOB so we brought a bottle of champagne. We got there as it was opening and they sat us right away. It was a pretty nice day so we decided to sit outside. First of all let me say that House is a cute spot in Media. The waitress was attentive. That was not the problem. The problem was that the prices must have ZOOMED way up since the July 2021 review saying they had "three entrees and drinks for $40.00". Just a couple weeks ago, three of us had lunch at House. The portions were SMALL and everything was A LA CARTE, even the toast ($2.00). My husband and sister each had the plain French toast ($12.00 each) and a side of sausage ($6.00 each). Fantastic food and quaint little spot. Small restaurant with maybe 10 tables so be prepared to get cozy. Always a line even when they open on weekends at 10am. I have been twice and will continue to dine here. This past weekend I had the brisk and eggs, as well as split the french toast. Both were absolutely delicious. I chose my meal only to be told AFTER waiting that they were out of my selected item--why wouldn't you tell someone what isn't available as you hand them a menu? The coffee was cold and we weren't offered a refill until our meals were ready--45 minutes after we sat down. The meal was awful--ordered an omelette, got something in a skillet (which was a different menu choice). Ask for white toast, was given wheat, which the server dropped on the table and kept going. The menu is not huge, but has a variety of options. They have soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I ordered the quinoa and sweet potato pancakes, which I found out later are vegan. The food came out and was beautifully presented, especially what I ordered. It had pickled beets on top which made the dish very colorful. It was extremely delicious and offered a full culinary experience. I have never eaten anything like it before. It will definitely be a meal I will remember for a long time. We had the most remarkable experience at House. Supremely attentive, nuanced service. The kind of service that only exists in white-glove exclusive restaurants. Service that shows you what happens when the server does this as a profession, rather than a job. What a treat. Faithful Dining Companion and I ducked into House on a rainy afternoon for lunch. We admit this was chosen over some other Media restaurants because there was a parking spot right in front. Yeah, we can be shallow. It was nice to come into a bright, clean, very beige-and-bare-wood with some cool accents place on a dreary day. This place looks like Crate & Barrel at the Beach. Faithful Dining Companion got the Shiva salad, I ordered a bowl of chili and the King Khan salad. Many happy noises were made about the Shiva salad, and the chili was all kinds of yum. I didn't care for the King Khan salad, though it wasn't the fault of the restaurant. It was I am certain magnificent for what it was, plenty of meat, creamy sauce served on a bed of greens. It's just that the greens themselves had a bitter finish, something the haute cuisine set enjoy but I do not. Now here's the amazing part. Our server, Jose, noticed that I was picking around and at the salad. I did NOT fuss (FDC can back me on this). I didn't even mention to FDC that I did not enjoy the bitter greens. He just, well, observed. He came, asked me if I was enjoying the meal, I said it was fine, he probed, I confessed, he immediately offered me something else, took it off the bill, and refused to take 'no' for an answer when I insisted it was my palate, not the salad itself, that was the problem. For the service alone in this case I'd give it 5 stars. Having said that, the food was awesome, so this is an easy call. read more
