We've gotten pretty gorged on BBQ, spending 5 or 6 weeks per year in GA the past six years. I have to say, Sterling Pig's pulled pork is a decent substitute this far north. I'm grateful that Sterling Pig has the taste and integrity to serve real potato French fries. I've stopped buying fries most places because it's all reconstituted junk anymore, but Sterling Pig's are legit. Thank you! Pulled pork is well rendered with expected flavor and is just simple and satisfying as it should be; grilled meat. No hint of a water bath or any of the cockamamie things some cooks can do to pork meat. Not super smokey but it doesn't need to be, and it doesn't need sauce either which means it's good meat to eat alone. Brisket had all the desired flavor but loads of fat. I don't like paying for gristle and fat when I pay by the pound. Otherwise, they are one of the few places up here who can get flavor right. Big Bad Wolf in Aston used to make great burnt ends with delicious flavor but quality waned last time I tried it. All in all Sterling Pig is pretty good and if you're not used to weeks of GA BBQ every year like we are, you're definitely in for a treat among local options. read more

Interesting stop while in Philadelphia. I was interested in trying some of the fruity beers or sours but they were out of everything. The bar tender kept saying that they just tapped those kegs but what he meant is that the kegs 'kicked' as they were no longer available. Our flights were ok but not the best craft beer I've tried. I liked the set up and the outdoor beer garden. If I were back in the area I'd try it again to see if their fruity beer or sours were on tap. read more

Stopped into the Stirling Pig to pick up a 4-pack of a collaboration beer that a friend of mine had worked on with the brewery, to take to an event the following day, but ended up staying for a drink or two instead! For the tiny location that is tucked away off of Old State in Media, there is so much more space in here than one would expect when looking from the outside. We were actually seated at first, but already had dinner plans for a bit later in the evening so moved to the bar area, which we had a little bit of trouble finding at first, but was OBVIOUS once we realized where it was located within the building. Everyone was wonderful and the place was pretty busy for as early in the evening that we arrived, and each person we encountered was great, including Ryan behind the bar where we eventually settled. He was quick with our beer order; me settling with an Oktoberfest, another of us with a nitro porter, and yet another with an Orange crush, as well as a nice heaping plate of sweet potato fries that were perfectly crisp, salted impeccably, and served piping hot...possibly some of the best I've had in the area The beer was outstanding, with the nitro porter easily being the star of the drink order. However, neither of the others were any slouch, and everything came quickly, with the staff very keen on our requests due to our reservations elsewhere later on. Having been in the area for several years now and frequenting Media, I likely should have come here far earlier and many more times by now, although it simply hadn't happened yet. This will definitely be a place that I will be returning to for a full meal, a few flights and some other drinks so that I can fully experience their offerings beyond what I can find in stores close to me. Stopped in for a quick flight before an event in Philly. Easy parking on the hill near the park while exploring the nearby area as I walked to the brewery restaurant. I'm glad that this place has a dedicated restaurant and bar entrance in case you want to grab a beer or stick around for longer. I can't for the life of me understand why this place doesn't have ~5 stars- the smoked brisket was DIVINE with plenty of semi-rendered fat, my side of mashed potatoes was homemade and had the perfect amount of creaminess and salt, and my friend's green beans were fresh, crisp, and refreshing. Not to mention, our waitress was attentive, kind, and helpful in answering questions, and the aesthetic is creative, dimly lit, and rustic. There's no better way to put it, then: it's mad chill. :) My only recommendation for improvement would be to get sturdier high top tables/more comfortable chairs. Everything was so wobbly, like it was top heavy haha. I'm not going to take a star off for that though, because it is a "seat yourself" place and some low tables *were* available, we just wanted to be right next to the art sculpture. read more

It's been a bit since I've eaten at the Sterling Pig Media location and have enjoyed the food and libations in the past with no complaint. However, if you are going there for brisket these days, avoid this place like the plague (read on for details). I ordered the bbq brisket platter and was expecting thin ribbons of juicy lightly sauced bbq goodness. Instead, I am compelled to say that I just had --the --worst --shoe leather, ah I mean, bbq brisket-- ever. In fact I'm not really sure it was brisket....couldn't cut it with a knife and couldn't chew it with my teeth. The beans looked like soup and the cole slaw was yellow--ish. On the upside my husband devoured his brisket sandwich with no complaints (clearly not the same brisket). When I politely complained that my meal was inedible (and I really did try), the waiter was sympathetic so I've got no problem there. The kitchen, however is another story. How could they let meat so tough leave the kitchen...I mean they must have had a hard time cutting it and yet they sent it out. Went here a couple of weeks ago with my wife to give it a try. Our waiter was fast, attentive, and friendly (sorry, I forgot his name) I like the place. We had just come from another tavern that we walked out of. The other place only had a few people there, but it was extremely loud. Sterling Pig had a lot sound proofing in the ceiling, so it was quiet enough to have normal conversation. Maybe something other people don't care about, but I appreciate it. Started with a Saison beer that was really good. Not to hoppy, with nice clean drinkability. We started with the pretzel. Pretzel was hot and soft. Cheese sauce that came with it was not particularly flavorful. The biggest disappointment (and reason for 3 star) was the brisket sandwich. Two thick (1/2 inch or so) slabs of meat not really hot throughout and the fat was not particularly rendered. For a BBQ place, it was just not very good. If you just want some beer it seems a great place. For food, not so much. read more

Stopped here for a work lunch and all had a great experience. A ton of tables and seats upstairs. Staff were all so friendly and kind! The waitress had extra hand warmers and gave some to us as we were leaving and heading back to the cold. We ordered an array of food. Nachos, brewhouse pretzel, fresh cut fries and sweet potato fries. Nachos tasted great but our only complaint was it lacked toppings. Majority of the chips had nothing on it, but when you did get a chip with toppings it tasted great! The waitress said adding pork to it is the best, so add that if you order this! Pretzel itself was delicious. Soft, salty and addicting. It came with two condiments, which I didn't love but the pretzel itself gets a 10/10. Fresh cut fries were so good. I've been to Sterling Pig twice, and both times, I was fulfilled. The parking lot is a bit of a maze, but once you're inside, the cozy vibes take away any stress of possibly, accidentally parking in a space reserved for the medical practice next door. The dim-lit, cabin ambiance is a great place to gather with a small group for a beer or two. Sterling Pig has a variety of BBQ options, including wings, brisket, pork, and ribs. I found the meats to be on the drier side - I am picky Texan, however, so this may skew my feelings. The flavor of the meat was good, but I was missing the juice. I did like the sweet potato fries, and I was a big fan of the two sauces served with my pulled pork sandwich. I probably could live without the queso cheese on the sandwich - it felt like an attempt to cover up the dry meat, and in the end just made me feel extra fat and full. I need to wear stretchy pants next time. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come here again. It's good, but it's not great, especially considering the amount of breweries in this particular area of the world. Our staff was very young and seemed overwhelmed by the crowd on the particular week night we stopped in recently. We had several instances of simple mistakes: no silverware, forgotten drinks, long wait for the check. If you're in the area, I'd suggest the Sty-lander Scotch Ale or the Notorious P.I.G. to-go. First time visiting Sterling Pig today! We sat at the bar and Brian, the bartender was extremely attentive and remembered our names and drink orders. My boyfriend tried the Michaux Mule which was the perfect mix between a mule and a cider. I tried a Media Mule and felt that they should swap the sour mix for real ginger beer. We tried a new special added by the new kitchen manager - brisket tacos which had guac and fresh corn salsa and it was arguably the best brisket my boyfriend and I have ever had. We ordered hand-cut fries and to our surprise the kitchen manager brought out the best pico jack cheese fries ever. We love trying new places in the Philly/Delco area and we're super happy we tried Sterling Pig today. We will definitely be back, especially learning that there will be new and exciting changes to the BBQ menu this upcoming week. Here's a pic of our pico fries! I stood there over 5 minutes and the barmaid was engaged in a conversation with a few patrons who clearly were so important obviously than acknowledging me! She is not the only one at fault..the other staff who saw me standing there ..did and said NOTHING! Finally I flag down a waitress and she says someone will help me shortly...not true! I go back outside to the table and then someone arrives with this this BS excuse...I didn't know you all were at my station? Seriously! I didn't want to ruin the rest of the experience..so I let it go because we were hungry and we wanted to sample the beers! We should've left! We ordered the smoked wings and Pizza! Both sucked hard! The wings went cooked fully after expressing that we wanted them 'well done'. The pizza was subpar to say the least and what sealed the deal was the flavors lingered all night in a negative way! Now let's talk beer..I really thought at least one of the beers in the IPA Flight would have something memorable about them...they didn't..they were basic beers with no flavor profiles! First came a pretzel which was a good start for the three of us. The shrimp arrived, about six an inch in diameter. The salsa was good as was the avocado. Beer was really good and they had a special one for which a portion went to benefit Ukraine! The food was awesome. We enjoyed everything we ordered - smoked wings, pretzel, nachos, burgers, bbq platter including the Mac and cheese, beans, pork, chicken and coleslaw. Our group of 4 went to Sterling Pig on a Saturday afternoon around 1 PM. We went upstairs to meet our friends who happened to arrive 15 minutes before us. We waited close to 10 minutes before our server came over, partly because there was only one server on the clock and almost every table was occupied. Although it wasn't the most timely service, the server was nice and accommodating. We ordered a few drinks to start. I can't remember my drink, but it was pumpkin flavored with a layer of cinnamon on the rim of the glass. It was so refreshing! For food, we ordered a burger, pulled pork, and a pizza. The burger was great and the fries were crispy. I didn't order the pulled pork, but I took a few bites and it was juicy and cooked perfectly. The "Pitmaster" pizza was a little flat and underwhelming, but the toppings were fresh! Overall, we had a decent time. Great spot! We came across this restaurant after hiking all-morning in the nearby in Ridley Creek State Park (really nice). Upon entering, you'll notice a ton of cool beers listed on their chalkboard, offered on-tap, with a range of saison, double IPAs and sour beers. Classic 80s music blasting on the speakers and friendly waitressing staff ready to take our order. We were allowed to try a few beers on tap and instantly fell in love with their crisp saison beer. For food, we started with a few sides including their collard greens (very well cooked) and mac 'n cheese (nothing to write home about). Portion sizes were okay but still good quality. Nachos came next - a heaping plate of crispy chips with chile and loads of cheese, pico de gallo and gaucamole. It filled us up immediately before moving onto the caesar salad with brisket. First time in my life having brisket over a salad but it was extremely well cooked - the consistency of having it break apart when you try to use your fingers. Overall we had a great time here. Well situated, pleasant staff and plenty of beers to choose from. While the quality of the food wasn't anything to really rave about - it's a spot I would check out again and advise you consider the next time you're venturing in Media. Check it out! read more

Was looking for a Sunday evening brewery and found this after a few attempts. Food menu has plenty of options for meat lovers, as well as some salads and pizzas. Place was popping, but seats by the bar were plentiful. It's a lil chilly down there, and only one bathroom. They tapped the keg on a beer or two, but the cider was crisp. Beers were average, nothing to brag about. But the food! Yum. The sample platter of brisket, pulled pork, and ribs was pretty awesome. Brisket was cooked to perfection and the fat was soft and salty. Ribs were a little dry, but their jalapeño BBQ sauce fixed that instantly! Bourbon BBQ sauce was my top flavor, with a smokey sweetness that tastes good on everything. French fries were cut nicely, and the coleslaw was a nice small side. Downside was that portion of the mashed potatoes was soooo tiny. Potatoes are cheap! I think I've tried mostly everything on the menu that would be worth it, but it was a good night! read more

He came up to our server and made a scene in the middle of the restaurant where we all could see. He was rude to her and said something along the lines of the bar is for beer. When we told the server it was cold, they "reheated" it what seemed it was the microwave bc he brought it back within 2 minutes. If I wanted a reheated burger it should be free. I want to love this place but they just can't get their act together. Great location, fun to sit outside, food tastes pretty good... but the service is consistently terrible. I mean way, way below average. And something gross always happens. Multiple times I have had hair in my food and it happened again today. By the time the server came back to check on our food (about 15 minutes after it was delivered) it was too late for him to replace our mustard sauce that had multiple short hairs in it. How is this much hair getting into their food? We brought it to our server's attention but we had already eaten our pretzel. (We were short on time, hungry, and not willing to stare a pretzel for 15 minutes and not eat it). I assumed they would take it off the check because *hair* which is a complete no brainer but sure enough they did not. My love/hate relationship with brewpubs continues....so I made an executive decision to go Media today and eat at a trendy Media place. I know trendy and me don't go together so maybe that is why I am regularly disappointed. I got the the BBQ Sandwich. I loved the taste of the brisket. I hated that it wasn't chopped up. One bite was dry, one bite was all fat, one was perfect, chop it all together and every bite is perfect. I loved the cheese sauce. I hated that it couldn't get thoroughly mixed in with the meat and be part of every bite. I loved the cider beer. I hated that it was the only beer on tap that was brewed somewhere else. This was our first time at the Sterling Pig. It is smaller than we had thought for the basic bar area and restaurant but not small. It was a beautiful day, the bar was open air and there were tables out front. We sat in the restaurant. The decor is cool. Kind of industrial unfinished. Service was good. We went for lunch so I can't discuss the bar options. The kids both had the fish and chips. The fries were excellent and fresh cut. The fish was lightly battered and flaky. Really tasty. My wife had the brisket tray. I had the BBQ sampler pulled pork, ribs and pulled chicken. The brisket was phenomenal. The pulled pork was good although I though a little bland The ribs were meaty and flavorful. Could have used a few more but it was a sampler. I didn't care for the pulled chicken. When we pulled up, we could smell the smoke from the smoker. I was hoping for great food, but as far as BBQ places go, this is just middle of the road and expensive. I ordered the combo ($20) so I could give everything a try. It included brisket, 2 ribs, pulled pork, cornbread, cole slaw, and one side. I should have taken a picture of the brisket. It had a 2" thick solid chunk of fat on it. The fat weighed more than the brisket under it. The brisket itself was meh. One side was overdone and rock hard. The rest was standard brisket, but nothing to write home about. Next were two ribs cooked nearly to the point of being jerky. One attempt at taking a bite and the entirety of it came off the bone. It was rock solid and the run on the outside stuck to my teeth like taffy. The pulled pork had a nice smoke ring. It was dry and bland. I got the brisket beans for my side. They had way too much something in it. I think paprika, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The best thing on the plate was the cole slaw. It was fantastic surprisingly. I would have done just that for my side had I tasted it before. Service was friendly and efficient. Outside seating was a plus. I was really let down by the food. If you're going to charge $20 for such small portions they better be damn good. This just is not worth the price when there are so much better food options in Media for less money. read more

I LOVE the Sterling Pig. I've been here a bunch of times and keep coming back for an awesome beer selection and delicious bar food. Their menu also includes quite a few BBQ options, which I have yet to try. The BBQ wood stacks and smokey smell really create the atmosphere here. Pictured are the poutine fries and buffalo wings-- both delicious and highly recommended. Also pictured is the Czerw's sausage trio-- I had no idea what this is, and frankly am not that into sausage, but my NE Philly boyfriend was stunned to see this on the menu and loved it; for me they were a little spicy. The Sterling Pig does a great job with their beer/drink list offering something for everyone. They have wines and ciders on top of a variety of beers. I particularly love their This Little Piggy Citra IPA, though their taps are always changing and new options are always available. Although the Sterling Pig is a bit of a distance from the other bars in Media, their location is actually perfect. The distance keeps them from getting as packed as some of the spots on State Street, and while they always pack a crowd, it's not impossible to get a seat. Definitely recommended, particularly for really good, local craft beer. read more
