Yes for pub atmosphere, yes for Irish feelings, yes for huge portions. Maybe for comfort. We came in right before valentines day and loved how over decorated the place was. We got seated right behind the live music and I'm so glad we asked to move since we got the cozy fireplace table and there's no way we could have heard eachother otherwise. The chairs were weirdly uncomfortable and seemed a mix of styles. When everything else called to be cozy that was an odd misstep in a cold winter night. They were out of a handful of things but they did have a super extra special menu to try. We had to sample the mashed potato balls but honestly they were dense and dry without a lot of flavor. If you mixed with the sauce they were ok but don't really recommend. The stews were amazing, and the shepherds pie will absolutely take you back to the island, and huge portions. The yak burger really tasted great but it was one of those "too huge to fit" type of burgers so be aware. The desserts really weren't inspiring so we skipped. This is very popular and the bar area was totally packed when we headed out. I'd say worth going but ask for where you want to sit and be prepared to just take awhile. read more

We got to the restaurant and were seated promptly, given that we had a reservation. We walked through the front room, which was setup like a typical bar, and into the dining area in the next room. A live guitarist was setting up for the evening in the space between the two rooms. He started playing just after we were seated, and it was a bit loud from the proximity, but a member of our party asked if we could move. After checking with the hostess, we were whisked away to a cozier table by the room's fireplace. Given the cold weather, it was quite nice. That table also had some more comfortable seats, so I'm glad they could accommodate the switch. Our server was quite personable, and took good care of us as we ordered drinks and waited for the rest of our group. She did need to check on some menu items and they had some sold our dishes, but there were plenty of options still. When the food came, one of our entrees had a small mix up, but it was resolved before the rest of our food made it out. My shepherd's pie filling was deliciously rich. The mashed potatoes on top were broiled to crispy perfection. I didn't love the bread on the side, but I had more than enough pie to fill me up. Overall, I'd love to go back and try some other menu options. read more

Thursday night I went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. The friends I was with have been at Shebeen before and never had a problem, but this night the vibe at Shebeen felt off and everyone in my group agreed. The bartender Jay was completely off putting and unprofessional. Our group felt very uncomfortable and the mixed drinks were way too strong. We wanted to stay at Shebeen for the remainder of the night, but unfortunately we all felt that we would rather go home than have bad service and bad drinks. read more

Special Tuesday drinks and food (vegan cheesesteaks and a pizza) with Amigo Dan. I think Oyster Mushrooms make the best vegan cheesesteak. Shebeen has a Mushroom Caprese sandwich. For our purposes it is a vegan cheesesteak. We liked it. I would like to try it again when beefsteak tomatoes are in full bloom. I would like to see this sandwich on a better roll. A less porous roll. We loved the renovations to the room. Great use of rope as an accent piece on the ceiling. Vanessa makes a great drink. I got a Bulleit Old Fashioned. It was very yummy. The best part...... $13. I thought for sure that drink, in Media, was going to be at least $18. Great stop. read more

We usually come here a few times a month, and enjoy the atmosphere and drinks in the Shebeen.....staff are always friendly and attentive. The bar area is small and cozy, but on some nights (not sure what nights or hours) they have a singer / guitarist in the bar, that is way TOO LOUD for such a small area.....it makes having a normal conversation impossible. In the outside area, that might be ok.....but inside, it just becomes intolerable, even though the singer / guitarist is obviously talented. read more

We (party of 4) walked in and seated ourselves at a table (all were open at 7:00PM on a Sunday). The tables were sticky and dirty. We asked the bartender, who had yet to look up from his phone, to please wipe it down. He did wipe it down albeit with a very wet and stinky bar tower. The table was now wet, sticky, sticky and wet. He gave us menus and said that a server would come by and take our order. 10 minutes later, no server. The bartender was once again lost in his phone. The appetizers were the only positive thing that came out of our experience at Shebeen. We went for Father's Day and we had one bartender as our server too. The place had 3 people at the bar and two tables. Our bartender/server didn't know what types of whisky they had. As a claim to have the largest whisky bar, there should be a menu. The runners didn't know what food they were dropping. The French onion soups at both tables were served without spoons and we had to wait ~5 minutes to receive them. The entrees were mediocre at best. For the price and after delivery of great appetizers, we expected above-par entrees. They also forgot one of our entrees. Perhaps they're new staff members, but it wasn't busy enough to call for the fluster. I can't imagine we will be back when there is many other Irish locations that are more affordable and quick with service. read more

Total lack of attention to detail, food just OK. Before ordering, I asked how many lamb chops were in the starter. "5". However, only 4 were delivered so waitress went back to inquire. Upon her return, she says 4 is correct. Food was OK. I ordered fish & chips, specifically said to hold the mushy peas. Yet, mushy peas arrived. I've had better fish & chips; excessive serving size of steak fries. My guest enjoyed the chowder. Upon receiving our check, we noticed that we were overcharged for my fish & chips ($24, not $22 per menu) and the lambchop starter ($20 not $19 per menu). Waitress embarrassed, took receipt and returned with adjustments and apology, and reported that we were ALSO overcharged for chowder ($10 not $9 per menu). She presented her device and stood right there while I tried to decide on how to enter a fixed tip, as opposed to the default choices of 15%, 20%, etc. I gave up and reluctantly selected 15%. Ambiance did not feel Irish. Our tabletop seemed damaged. We were the only diners in our area, altho it was early for a Sunday dinner. Just a handful of patrons at the bar, watching football. We decided to give the place another try considering their bourbon and whiskey options. First time here we had table service, but now we had to order at the bar. The bar seemed understaffed with only one bartender. The drink my wife tried to order from the previous visit was no longer available, because they change their specialty drinks frequently. I tried ordering a whiskey flight and was told they were not offering flights that night, because they haven't managed the inventory. The flight would've been the highlight. I have been coming here with my significant other since they opened. We came often until the service and the quality of food began to decline. The service is unfriendly, inattentive and undeserving of the prices this place charges. We have been served undercooked chicken, cold food and have sat and sat at their tables with the slowest service known to man. Media deserves more than this place. With the amount of great places and great food along State Street I cannot believe this place continues to operate at the level it does. I've been following this restaurants Instagram account with anxious excitement to check them out. The food absolutely did not disappoint! Unfortunately, I left unhappy and I'm on the fence about returning. We chose to check out Shebeen. It was hot. The doors were left open to the outside restaurant and the air didn't seem to be on. We ordered an appetizer but it never came. When our entrees were brought out, we told the girl (she wasn't our waitress) and when we told our waitress, she blamed the kitchen and said she'd make management know. Had she checked on us after we placed our orders, we could have ordered drinks from the bar and asked about our appetizer. Not a huge deal, but I did end up leaving hungry. I do recommend trying Shebeen. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. I'm just not thrilled about my experience. After dropping $100 on dinner, the last thing I want to do is raid my fridge when I get home. read more

TERRIBLE. STAY AWAY FROM THE SHEBEEN. You have been warned. I wish I could give a zero star to this joke of a restaurant. This was the single worst pick we have ever made for going out to eat and I have more than a few reasons why. Before I get to that I have to mention that this was an outing for my wife's birthday dinner and the fact that this was such a disappointment made this night out that much worse. This night begins with an 8PM table for 3 on a relatively slower night. We ordered the appetizers and while they came out quick, only half of them were any good. The lobster bisque was watery and had zero chunks of lobster in it. Have you ever had good lobster bisque? Because I have. The good ones are chunky and filled to the brim with lobster, while this iteration felt like they skimmed the soup off the top and left everything else at the bottom. Not a great start but whatever. We waited a little bit to order our main course as we just got out apps and just wanted to enjoy them with the whiskey for a little while before we ordered. Turns out that this was a big mistake. So I order the weekend only Irish roast. Only to find out too late that they have run out for the night. A bit upsetting, but I can live with it. I just wish the waiter told us of any menu items that were out beforehand so I could adjust accordingly. So after being put on the spot I finally decided on the 14oz steak (medium rare), the wife got the chicken breast while my FIL got the cast iron shepherds pie. It is now around 8:30PM. After some talking the waiter comes by and asks if we need anything, we say no and he mentions that our food will be out soon! So that's great, but I can assure you that this was a lie. More time passes and there's no sign of our food. It's about 8:45 when I make a unmemorable joke to my family about how It would be out soon don't worry, even though I'm the one whos the most famished. More time elapses and no food. The waiter comes by again some time later and says it's coming right up again! Finally some good news. Guess what? More time passes with no food and by now we are all getting a bit restless. 9:15PM the food FINALLY arrives. I'm in good spirits because honestly everything looked good and we can finally eat. Here's when I start noticing some details about my dinner that make me a bit tentative. While the steak originally looked great, one cut and you instantly know it's overcooked. Not only that but I can barely cut though it because its nothing but fat. Now, I've had some strip steaks before and I'm accustomed to a strip of fat on the side but a good 30% of this mess was fat. I waited over an hour for an overcooked steak that I could have made myself at home for 1/3 the price. They charge 34$ for this crap. Luckily the waiter was nice enough to take the steak off the check because I wouldn't have my worst enemy pay for that crap. Don't even get me started on my sides. Broccoli rabe that was overcooked, dry and under seasoned with a side baked potato with no fucking butter or seasoning either. You can bake one at home for 1$ and even have butter and salt for it! Now I am going to mention the one good thing which was my wife's chicken. I'm so glad it was great because I didn't want anything else worse to ruin tonight any more than it already was. Notice how I don't mention the shepherds pie? Because it was just ok, nothing to write home about. That's a shame coming from an Irish restaurant. You think it would be the star attraction, but who am I to say that traditional Irish food should be top notch at an Irish restaurant? Top it all off with a waiter who saw us leave and just sits down at a table across the way to look at his phone and just ignored us as we said goodbye to him twice. Not even a glance towards us. Top notch service! I guess they already got our money so why bother anymore? You can't pay me enough to ever go here again. It's Media PA, there are literally 20 different restaurants around the corner that are better picks then The Shebeen. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. read more

As a neighbor I love to support local but there is no good reason to be blasting SWEEEET CAROLINE or Hotel Motel Holiday Inn by Pitbull at this hour on weekdays. Skip the desserts (lava cake dry with no gooey middle and pecan pie more corn syrup than pecans). Drinks are small but tasty. Biggest issue was Debbie Downer server. Everything was "no" in a not so nice tone. No, we couldn't get a drink made in the bar adjacent, no they couldn't substitute or leave off the mushy peas, etc. Not in a nice, cust service way. We were celebrating a birthday and in the notes for our reservation it was listed - we did not get any "special treatment" as I was hoping to get for my partner. First time visiting this place last Sunday. The service was good and food was exceptional. Started with generous portion sizes of the Caesar salad and onion soup. The time between sitting down until we received our first plates was all of 8 minutes, a pleasant surprise. Our next part of the meal was Irish sausage rolls and the Rib-eye Sliders. When I spoke to our server, Izzy (?), she offered no apology, did not offer to get me anything else and challenged me about my inability to eat the food. She then slapped her hand on our table and stated, "your opinion does not matter when I told her that she was a lousy server!" She never offered to get the manager, who, by the way, stood behind the bar knowing full well what the issue was and completely ignored me. Younger staff, not experienced, lack of caring and they do not know what good service is or how to recover from poor food/service.
