Do not go here for food unless you're hanging out for awhile. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and an omelet and placed our order at 11:17am. We checked in around 11:35 because it felt like we had been waiting awhile. Their response: "we're short staffed." Weird because I counted many staff members standing around in the middle area doing nothing. Finally at 11:55 we asked about our food again. They had lost our ticket. Sure, it happens, but to top it off, when asked if we could just get our money back, the staff responded poorly and was shocked when we asked for our tip back, too. Awesome place with one significant flaw: no recycling. I like Spot coffee. Though I disappointed that they didn't have the Tiramsu I like to order there. I went twice and I guess it's not a regular item. The coffee is really good and it has atmosphere. The food is good. But $8 for a English muffin with egg is a bit rediculous. $3.47 for the same thing at dunkin donuts and $3.19 also at Tim Hortons. But the coffee is good and decently priced at least. The employees don't like it when you ask for a specific amount of cream and sugar, then maybe a shot of caramel or something in your coffee whereas Starbucks encourages you to make you coffee as you like it. I would not go here if I didn't like their caramel macchiato so much. I just wish I didn't get that annoyed look when I ask for an extra shot of caramel. read more

I frequent this location, and by that I mean just about everyday for a work break. There's a few fairly depressed employees but most are awesome. The espresso here is amazing, try the iced latte, crazy good. Food is unbelievable too, try the Mike sandwich on an everything bagel. I would walk over broken glass to get here from that garbage across the street (Starbucks). read more

I prefer this location to the Elmwood one, hands down. Even though the Elmwood location is closer to where I live, I still come to this one--it's just a better location for study/reading. It's less noisy, at least when I'm there, and less crowded by an order of magnitude, even when it's busy; I'm never worried about finding a table. With the caveat that I drink stale diner coffee and fancy coffee with the same enthusiasm, I like what they serve here. The food has never let me down--the Mike's really is that good, but I've only had it once, because it's probably going to kill me. The chicken foccacia sandwich is hands-down my favorite indulgence, and at $9, I really mean it's an indulgence. (I'm pretty sure it was $7.50 back when I was in high school.) Right off the bat, the service was horrendous. The cashier was genuine and nice, but completely incompetent with the computer. Get a new computer or a new cashier. Food hasn't even come yet. I love the atmosphere here, and I understand busy times, but it's been over 40 minutes since I ordered a croissant and an espresso. I received my espresso in a timely manner, but I'm still here waiting for a croissant that simply needed to be pulled out of the case in front of me. Now my coffee will either be cold or I'll just keep drinking it and have to order another drink to go along with my pastry. This is ridiculous. I asked for no meat on my quesadilla and they gave me a burnt quesadilla with meat on it. I timidly brought it back up after mistakenly taking a bite and they blandly said they'd replace it. I haven't eaten meat in over twelve years, I really don't appreciate the mistake or lack of an apology. I waited a long time for the replacement, it never came out so I asked the girl at the bar and she said the item can't be made without meat. She gave no other option or food suggestion so I had to ask for a refund. And now I'm waiting for the manager to come do that for me... really bad customer service from the cook/barista but the woman who took my order and the actual manager were fine. As I was talking to the manager the cook came out and underlined chorizo in the quesadilla on the specials board, but I told them I knew chorizo was in the special one which is why when I ordered I specifically said a "quesadilla without meat". read more

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, yummy baking goods and awful coffee. I tried tons of different coffee chains, but only one took my heart, and spot didn't change my mind. I ordered caramel macchiato with skim milk and caramel flavor. But instead I got regular milk( saw how was my coffee made) and caramel swirl. So I had awfully sweet coffee, which I hate( I don't drink coffee with any kind of sweetener) and with bitter aftertaste of burned coffee. Plus my I found say that my coffee was hot. Just bit warm. I love the atmosphere and decor in the restaurant. Its a laid back place where you can grab a bite, bring a laptop and get some work done or just catch up. The food was great and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I will definitely be back soon! read more

This local chain is like a slightly cooler Starbucks. Coffee is marginally better and they take a lot more care in designing their spaces. This one especially is extremely large, well located and a great place to hang out with friends (or study, I guess, judging by the other patrons). They're open pretty late too, so on weekend evenings it's an oasis in the otherwise ridiculous Chippewa strip. read more

Unfortunately I have to downgrade this Spot one star from 5 to 4. I still like it here and I still plan on coming here evenings and weekends, but it's become the case that this is not a good place for me to catch lunch downtown. Some things are out of their control, like when they get a huge rush of people and just can't keep up. That must be rough on the employees and I'm not pinning the blame on them (although there is one employee who mostly socializes, even at the busiest times, while every other employee is clearly trying to keep things moving). Plus, if this Spot is running only one of their two registers at lunch and there's a rush, it can be an especially long wait. Even if you call ahead, there's no guarantee you'll get your food. Sometimes it's just not ready yet, other times they've run out of [fill in the blank] and couldn't make your order at all, or sometimes they simply didn't bother to put your order in when you called. I've never given anyone there a hard time over it and I realize mistakes happen, but just a little bit of acknowledgement goes such a long way. Otherwise it just feels like my business is irrelevant. There used to be an employee there during lunch hours who was so incredibly thoughtful in such cases that you'd want to leave a tip even though your order took much longer than expected. I haven't seen her around for awhile though. Service workers deserve respect and can't be expected to work miracles when understaffed, nor can they be expected to never make mistakes. That said, there are often strict time constraints for some customers when it comes to catching lunch during work hours. If you fall into that category, then this may not be a good place to go. It's far better to come here when you have time to kill. You'll have a better experience then and you can also sit back and soak in the nice atmosphere. read more
