I was looking for a big brunch when visiting Baltimore and spoons was everything I wanted and more. The restaurant had a cute set up with exposed brick in places and a homey feel. For breakfast we got the cinnamon roll pancakes which were AMAZING. They were fluffy and moist and the maple coffee glaze on top was to die for. If you have a sweet tooth you must give this a go. We also got the southern Benedict which had pulled pork on top of a biscuit and was also delicious. The biscuit was fluffy and the side of potatoes were also seasoned very well. Reservations are definitely needed. It's a quaint cozy spot. The food is good. However they don't have a separate gluten free menu or many gluten free options. However, I wanted to try this place out to see what the hype was about. I ordered the 2-2-2 breakfast with over easy eggs, ham, and French toast. My friend ordered the Greasy Spoon with bacon, potatoes, sausage, over easy eggs, and toast. The food was okay but I was not impressed considering how popular this place is. Southside Diner is a better place for a little bit less in price and a more lively atmosphere. There was an issue with my friend's meal so it was comped. The waitress was fantastic and very nice. The restaurant adds an automatic 18% gratuity which isn't a big deal but can be for some. We were seated as soon as we arrived which I was amazed at since this place always looks busy when I pass by it. My friend and I had a free Sunday in Baltimore and decided to grab brunch at Spoons. We arrived around 10:45 am and were told it was going to be a 40 minute wait. We walked around the neighborhood a bit and were seated exactly 40 minutes later. I really liked that they post their current minimum wait time on the front door; I had never seen that before! The food and coffee made the 40 minute wait well worth it! My friend had the hot coffee and I had the iced coffee, both of which were amazing. They even sell their coffee in case you want to take some home. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Biscuit and it was fantastic! I had to find pay to park street parking. Not very familiar with the area so not sure if there are nearby parking lots or garages. The staff was pleasant and the food was good. I ordered the 2-2-2. Definitely a decent spot to grab some breakfast/brunch options. We came here after a run which it was only a short walk away from the inner harbor which was a plus. Atmosphere was really nice, hipster type, calm and cool type of place. I actually really enjoyed seeing the art they have hung up and their coffee bar area. They started with a jug of water which was great but I think glass cups would be better than the plastic cups that were given with them. The service was alright, nothing special, our waitresses weren't bad but they also didn't have much personality just a little bland but they got the job done. The moment you have all been waiting for.. I can't talk for the rest of my group but I ordered The Beast which was their buttermilk biscuit, cheese, a fried egg, chicken, bacon and I got the sausage gravy on the side. It originally comes topped with prosciutto but they were kind enough to replace that with beyond sausage for me. It was an absolutely delectable dish with rich savory flavors and texting ranging from crispy to ooey-gooey. I would go back just fo this. My husband is a carnivore and he ordered the The Beast. His plate just looked like a monster so the name is very fitting. There's a lot of cream/gravy in this so he was only able to eat 1/2 and saved half for later. he could not stop raving about it. So so so so good! I've passed spoons plenty of times because it's not too far from my job and I also frequent Cross Street Market. I honestly don't know why I had never gone and after my meal I'm upset that I didn't come sooner. We came on a Saturday and had about a forty minute wait for a party of 2. The waiting area is small, but they will text you when your table is ready so you can stand outside or sit at cross street to pass time. I had the greasy spoon and added a cinnamon roll pancake. My friend and I also got two mimosa carafes. The wait on food wasn't bad whatsoever. And it was delicious! Even though the greasy spoon is your traditional breakfast, it was great. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the turkey sausage is the best I've ever had in my life. The bacon wasn't too my liking, but I'm just a picky person about bacon. The star of the show though was the cinnamon roll pancake. Probably the FIRST cinnamon roll pancake that I've had that actually tastes like a cinnamon roll. I'm a cinnamon roll connoisseur and anytime there's a place with a pancake, I have to try it. This was literal perfection. The glaze was the perfect compliment to the pancake. No extra syrup needed. This place had great food and surly service. The food a was a bit pricey, so I wasn't a fan of the seat yourself style restaurant and the three servers who occasionally checked on the table. We got what we needed, but it was confusing. There were a few food gluten free options and overall I felt fairly safe eating there. I had the Parmesan crusted omelet with the breakfast potatoes and left off the bread I wasn't sure about the grits so I didn't eat those either. The cold brew was good and the portion was great for the price. We were lucky to get a table but during a big rush this place is probably really difficult to get a table and at feel relaxed. I don't mind waiting but I don't want it to feel the the Hunger Games to sit down with no structure. Again, good food, slightly chaotic. read more
