Spoons is an adorable place for a weekday or weekend breakfast. I love that they also roast their own coffee! I've been here on two occasions - once, a rare weekday morning , and the other a Sunday (early) brunch. Weekdays are not an issue when it comes to their no reservation policy- we sat at the bar and enjoyed a few delicious lattes without being rushed. Sunday, obviously, was a bit different. We waited about 20 minutes before bar seats opened up (it would have been another 10 for a table, and we prefer bar anyways). Still, in both experiences, a big thing I appreciated was that service was prompt but not rushed. Both times they made great lattes, but the second time I visited for breakfast, we actually ate. He got the cinnamon roll pancakes, and I got the biscuit and gravy with a few over easy eggs added on. And oh my god, y'all. Both were amazing! Delicious buttermilk biscuit, savory creamy gravy, and perfectly cooked eggs on mine, while his pancakes were so divinely decadent without being saccharine. Portions aren't huge, but rather appropriate for what you pay. I'd definitely come back when we have a weekday off- this teacher can't wait for spring break! read more

The food here is very good and so are the hot drinks. We go often as we live nearby. We always tip at least 20 percent and are friendly and courteous to our wait people. Recently, we had a waitress be so nasty that we actually have decided not to go back for a long time. A shame. They need to work on their welcoming in general. read more

Went for brunch - it was very good. Wait time was reasonable, 20 min. Wait staff was okay, could have been more attentive (our drinks went unfilled for the majority of our meal) but they were pleasant. So the important stuff: the food. I had a build your own omelette with breakfast potatoes. Omelette was great, and I love that they have turkey sausage! The potatoes were seasoned well, and went perfectly with the omelette. My husband had the 2-2-2 with scrambled cheese eggs, turkey sausage and pancakes. He enjoyed it, eggs looked cheesy and were not runny at all. My daughter had the 3B Burger - she said it was missing the cilantro but it was very tasty. She also had a latte which she said was better than Starbucks - I'm not a coffee drinker so the comparison is lost on me! Kinda pricy for brunch without having ordered any liquor. I consider myself a professional bruncher, and I'd never heard of this place until my husband's coworker suggested we try it. Right on Cross St, on weekend morning's there's usually a bit of a wait... but they have a text-alert system that lets you know when your table is ready, so you can walk around Fed Hill and burn some of those french toast cals off before they even hit your belly. We've been twice now, and I guarantee the only reason it's not more is because we live in the county. Everything I've had there is a favorite of mine now: cream cheese stuffed, fried french toast? Yum. Unsweet iced green tea? Yes, please. "The Beast"? HOLD THE PHONE. Service is great and the food comes out really quickly. Such a great spot for breakfast / brunch that really hits the spot. We came here in April 2018 at around noon. There was a 20 minute wait, and we were able to walk around the neighborhood before receiving a text that our table was ready. The waiting area is really small so, if possible, I'd recommend this option. FOOD My boyfriend and I ordered The Beast and the cinnamon roll pancakes. What. An. Experience. We generally share our food, and I thought that The Beast would feel heavy if only one person ate it. It was a bit smaller than I anticipated from the photos but hey, it was the perfect amount for our order! The gravy was not as thick as I thought it would be, and the biscuit wasn't overly buttery which I liked. And now on to the important part: the pancakes. Those cinnamon roll pancakes really changed my perspective on pancakes. I'm the type of person who refuses to order pancakes because they're so easy to make at home. But, after seeing the reviews, I went for it and did not regret it one bit. I have no words other than perfection. It was everything you would want in a pancake + pure happiness. SERVICE Service was satisfactory. Not amazing, not poor. ATMOSPHERE The decor inside the restaurant is quite eclectic. We sat next to a freaky looking sculpture but it added to the flair of the place. The noise level was what I would call a "loud chattiness." I'm still on my Sunday brunch tour of local restaurants. This week we tried Spoons in Federal Hill Baltimore. Let me get the bad part out now, the service was slow I had to get my own coffee refill at the bar my next refill the server was on point. Now the food was outstanding and the in house brewed coffee was great! If you don't know Maryland doesn't identify with being a southern state. But let me tell you it is; the grits and biscuits here will make you slap your mama good. Being originally from Georgia I like to try grist and biscuits when I see them on the menu and their take on a southern classic was spot on an the omelette was good too. Spoons is a hidden gem in Baltimore! Went for an early Valentines date and left with full belly's and smiles on our face. I ordered the Huevos Verdes and it was the perfect savory and slightly spicy dish. A must have! I cleared my plate. My fiancé ordered the chicken and waffle sandwich and was very impressed with how flavorful it was. We will be returning again and enjoyed every bite! I was in the Inner Harbor area for a work conference and was tired of the touristy chain restaurants, so I decided to give Spoons Cafe a try. It was a nice 15 minute walk from my Inner Harbor hotel, but it was definitely worth it! Nestled in cozy Federal Hill, this cafe is just where I would find myself with friends (or by myself) on brunch days. It's cozy and homey feeling. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I ordered the fruit + yogurt with their homemade oatmeal to go, along with an iced coffee. They were both great! Spoons is hands down my favorite brunch spot in Fed Hill, and probably all of Baltimore. Anytime I have friends visiting from out of town, they insist on going here. I've never been disappointed by the food or coffee there - the risotto Benedict and southern Benedict are by far my favorites. And their mimosas, cinnamon rumchata latte, and sweat cream shakerato are amazing. I would definitely encourage arriving early as it does fill up pretty quickly. But it's absolutely worth the wait and the price - you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is really overhyped in my opinion. My boyfriend and I came for breakfast and we're underwhelmed by the service and the food. I ordered the Vermonter latte and an eggs Benedict and he ordered an iced coffee, biscuits and gravy, and a waffle. The latte was way too sweet and we had to remind the waitress multiple times to bring the iced coffee. The Hollandaise was purely vinegar and the eggs were hard boiled rather than poached. For his meal, he said he enjoyed the waffle the most. For a place with such strict rules and reservation policies you would think the food would be something special. So first off, let me say that what you find on their IG and the naming conventions on their menu are a bit inconsistent so feel free to do what I've done multiple times and casually show the waiter or waitress a picture from IG and say "whatever this is please". That being said this place is delicious. I'm giving it 5/5 because it's exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything more-- it's a great neighborhood brunch spot for a more casual crowd reasonably priced with good service and a solid menu with something for everyone. Now for the the drinks-- they're are a hit or miss. The first time we went I wasn't impressed and thought the drinks were weak, the second time we had a completely different experience and they were awesome. Reservations-- dud to covid we made a reservation so beware seats fill up early in the week! But on another day the staff helped us get a seat quickly when a party never showed for their reservation. Finally thoughts: Highly recommend! This is a Fed Hill must try and will be a staple in our Brunch spot rotation. We will definitely be returning for more. read more

Not sure how they do business here but yesterday was Columbus Day and their website said they're opened until 1pm (on a day they're usually closed). My husband and I arrived at noon to find no line and some tables available yet they had a sign up saying they aren't seating anymore people for the day. Not sure how they post their closing time as one time but then close an entire hour (or more, I just happened to arrive an hour prior) before their said closing time. We didn't show up 5 minutes or even 30 minutes before their closing time. And we don't live in the city either, my husband wanted to try somewhere different and found this place so we made the drive. Ever had one of those days where your brain doesn't work? Today was one of those days for me. I left my phone at boutique #1. I left my new shirt from boutique #1 at boutique #2. I left my wallet at the Spoon's register. Once I got my 2% iced latte and added in 2 pumps of honey on the side table, and I was golden. SO happy. I can't vouch for the food, but I sure loved my coffee. They also sell coffee beans in the back area, but I didn't get any. The space has the local coffeehouse look down pat. It could be a little newer perhaps, but it's still pretty comfortable. My other Yelp search rec was Metropolitan, but that looks more like a bar than a coffeehouse. Next time I'm in Fed Hill, I'll be back at Spoons for more caffeinated honey :) read more

Its pretty crowded on the weekend.. First time I had the o-nuts, fried chicken biscuit and breakfast potatoes. O-nuts are spoons take on beignets with cinnamon added to them. They were delicious. My second time in I wanted more O-nuts this trip but they ran out. I had a chopped salad which was really good. I would have liked my dressing on the side as requested but things happen. The service was pretty good. I like how they can text you when your table is ready, a tip is to go really early or closer to after lunch. Less crowded and wait time. A great brunch spot! For being the only place I had breakfast while in Baltimore, Spoons set the bar really high for the city. Cinnamon roll pancakes - oh my god. They weren't overly sweet, and had the perfect texture with a little cinnamon crunch in the every bite. Others in my party had omelettes, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The turkey sausage I had as a side wasn't too chewy and had a great, bold sausage flavor. Overall, if you're looking for a solid brunch spot, Spoons is an excellent choice. Just be prepared for a little wait, with a small space to wait in; our party of 5 had to wait about 30 minutes around 11am Sunday morning. We went to Spoons on a Sunday around 11 am and while we were seated right away, we had very slow service after that. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal but our waiter just seemed kind of half-asleep or something - he forgot my husband's OJ and never once refilled my coffee, even though we were there for over an hour. In fact, he took our order, delivered water and only came back when we went up to the coffee bar to ask for our check. Our food and drinks were served by others among the wait staff. We started with the O-Nuts: cinnamon sugar beignets which were perfectly fried and sweet. My husband had the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo which was HUGE and came with a side order of breakfast potatoes. The burrito was tasty and the potatoes were nicely browned and crisp. My oatmeal was, well, oatmeal - not exactly mind-blowing but then again that's not why I ordered it. I thought the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable: lots of college or grad school students, some older folks and even one or two families with kids. My favorite brunch buddy and I are up early on Sunday morning, I mean early like 8:00 am. We're ready to eat early too but most of the restaurants we frequent don't open until 10:00 or 11:00 am. Last Sunday, however, my friend wanted grits and I told her that I had the best cheesy grits at Spoons Café in Federal Hill, Baltimore. We googled the hours and luckily they open at 8:00 am. We arrived at Spoons around 8:45 and half of the restaurant seating was already occupied. The hostess sat us quickly towards the rear of the restaurant at a two-seat table adjacent to the kitchen. Spoons is a quaint restaurant space that looks like it could have been a house converted into a restaurant. My friend and I order a carafe of Apple Cider Mimosas because it's October and that means you drink apple cider. That was my first time trying that flavor mimosa and I was impressed. I 'd never thought to mix apple cider with champagne, but it was a fresh Fall take on the original mimosas. We scanned the menu and decided on The Beast, Fried Oysters and Grits, Deep-Fried Stuffed French Toast and the 2-2-2 (Two Eggs, Meat of your choice and French Toast or Pancakes). The Beast sandwich is -- well you guessed it -- A Beast. It's a biscuit sandwich with buttermilk fried chicken, fried egg, smoked bacon, American cheese topped with sausage gravy. Even though the menu describes it as a sandwich it's not meant to be handheld, you have to eat this with a fork and knife. In addition to the chicken and bacon, the sausage gravy added another meat element. The chicken was a tender cut, seasoned well and the biscuit was moist. The Fried Oysters and Grits were my favorite. The oysters had a crispy, seasoned, thick batter on them, what you would call chicken-fried, and the oyster inside was soft and fresh. The grits at Spoons are always great, even when I get them as a side with cheese, they are thick like grits should be. It also had an oyster sauce that was the consistency of soup and paired well with the oyster/seafood grits dish. The Deep-Fried Stuffed French Toast was just light and flaky on the outside and stuffed with warm sweet cream on the inside, it's the perfect portion to share. Spoons is a great neighborhood restaurant with tasty food and great service. It's the type of place you bring family that's visiting from out of town, they'd love it. They have beer and lunch options also. And because it's in the heart of Federal Hill, you may want to stop at one of the nearby bars after brunch. read more

Wife, daughter and I went after a long weekend of watching the Yanks/Orioles. Not a fan of how long it took to get seated, but the staff were very apologetic and friendly. Let me tell you...the food was definitely worth it. Wow. My wife got this pile of chicken, biscuit and gravy (that I wanted, damnit), my daughter got some eggs bene and a chocolate chip pancake (delish), and I got this gigantic bacon/egg/bbq/burger - wow. Met an old friend for brunch at this neighborhood dive. The place is tiny, casual and perfect for Sunday brunch. I arrived just before 10 and was able to be seated immediately. That's a good thing because the line was out the door and the wait increased to 30 minutes in just seconds. I enjoyed the turmeric latte for my beverage of the morning. The latte was golden and made with almond milk. It comes caffeine free and espresso is optional. I added 2 shots because I had a lot to do after brunch. It was so perfect and didn't need much sweetener. For my entree, I had the fried oysters and grits and this dish was EVERYTHING! I even added the poached egg. It was delicious. The cinnamon roll pancakes are literally to die for. Very moist and no syrup needed. I ordered the 2-2-2 which says "no substitutions" but the waiter offered me the cinnamon roll pancakes instead of regular pancakes. Also ordered a latte simply because I wanted to feel and sound fancy but the joke was on me because I didn't like that at all. I was too embarrassed to ask to return it but the attentive waiter noticed that I wasn't drinking it so he offered to exchange it for coffee. I definitely will return here but when I want to treat myself because I did think that it was a little pricey for breakfast. But worth the price nonetheless. read more

Super cute spot! Located in Fed Hill, Spoons whips up some yummy brunch items and great coffee. I got the 3B Burger and breakfast potatoes. The burger was juicy and topped with cheese, bacon, and an egg...what more could you want in a savory, delicious brunch? My friend got The Beast (fried chicken, egg, biscuit and gravy) and loved it! Also, kind of random but if you are into ginger drinks, they have a really great ginger punch/beer! Our server was also incredibly friendly and really responsive to any of our requests.. We love Spoons, and I don't really care for breakfast food. The first time we came here, my husband ordered The Beast, which we now know should be a meal for 2. Think fried chicken, a breakfast sandwich, and biscuits and gravy all wrapped up in one, with a steak knife stabbed right through the middle. Now he gets the breakfast burrito consistently, which is a winner. Being a non-breakfast lover, I've never met fried chicken I didn't want to eat for breakfast, so I stick with the fried chicken biscuit. And the coffees are fantastic - better than any chain place. The salted caramel latte is clearly made with love...and I love them for it. I would recommend getting here early, as it is small and fills up fast. Just avoid the tables near the glass doors when it's warm, as you will roast and be blinded with sunlight. read more
