Don't go here. The owner doesn't know the difference between tires. Told me he had a tire in stock and he would set it aside so I drove out there 15 minutes later and he didn't have the tire he said he set aside and tried to sell me a higher end tire with his bait and switch tactics. While I was in the store, I overheard him telling someone that the specific bike they wanted was no good and that they should buy a higher end bike. This guy will try to upsell you on everything. Do not go here go to a more reputable shop such as Pedal and Spokes in Aurora. The people there were friendly and very knowledgeable. UPDATE: The owner just called me and left a very rude message based on the above review. I did not leave my phone number with him so he must have looked back in his call logs to find my number and leave a harassing message. Do not leave any personal information with this bike shop as there is a potential they might use it in unethical ways. read more

Okay so I gave this place a call to ask how much to it will cost to get my bike fixed and yes I wasn't as specific, like I said "hey my bike is broke and I was just wondering how much would it cost to get it repaired" and then the owner was like "how about you come in and let us check your bike to figure that out" in the rudest way ever. Like he littarly could say that in a nicer way. But my friend said he came in just to check things out and he said that the owner kept on telling him not to touch anything like some glasses or bikes and was hovering him like a hawk. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day but this is not how a shop owner should treat new customers! I'm pretty sure most of these reviews are made up so Basil (the owner) could have a "nice" reputation. read more

Basil is extremely knowledgeable and professional! I went in to purchase a pair of $350 shoes. He recommended a different shoe that completely meets my needs in every way and saved me $250!!!! On top of that, we have a Nordic Track at home and have tried over 15 different seats from all price categories. Basil recommended one and we love it! So comfortable!! On top of that, he installed my new bike pedals and was patient while I learned how to click in and out of them with my new shoes. Basil has been in business for over 35 years and he has our business from now on!! read more

Went in to ask some questions about a new bike that has a different kind of nozzle on it like I've never seen before so instead of asking my questions he's showing me two different pumps that I would need. So instead of answering my question and helping me on how do I fill up with this kind of nozzle with a small portable pump that I had with me he's trying to sell me two other pumps. I told him that I don't need those I just need him to show me how to do it with my existing pump. Again. This was some pretty high pressure sales. All he had to do was show me how that particular nozzle has a little screw thing at the top that I just need to unscrew and then put my very own pump nozzle on it. This was just a horrible experience and I don't think I will be going to this bike shop for anything in the future. If I hadn't have asked specific questions I would have fell for his ploy and bought one of his special pumps which I didn't even need. Not cool guys. Update. I stopped in there today to try to give this place another shot. It's something I believe people deserve. I have gone to another bicycle shop since then and they were very very very familiar with this man. That's all I'm going to say. Anyway.I end up speaking with the same man that I spoke to before and he asked me if I was the one who stopped in to ask about blowing up a tire and I said yes. So then this man proceeds to verbally attack me asking why I left the review I left and I'm hurting his reputation and then he tells me God is watching. So of course I tell him that I didn't write anything that was untrue. So at this point I did the right thing by giving a business a second chance and he blows it even worse than the first time. What is wrong with this man? As I was pulling out of the parking lot he was standing at his door watching me. Kind of creepy. But I am certainly not going to engage in his verbal attack so walking away and updating my review is the right thing to do. read more

I'm going to keep this short. I went into the spokes Naperville location looking at road bike shoes. After not finding my size, the guy helping me asked a few questions. We discussed a bike that I shall soon purchase thanks to him. He took time to answer my questions. He was properly masked too, if that's of importance to you. Disappointed in our visit. We visited the Naperville location last Saturday to purchase a bicycle for our daughter. My husband proceeded to ask about the children's bicycles and the associate said, "We have a blue and pink bicycle" and walked away. No other questions or whether we needed anything else. We weren't expecting hand holding at all, just had a few questions on fit and styles and he seemed extremely disinterested. He even saw our daughter sit on the bicycle to see if the size would work. We promptly left. We drove to Trek on South 59 and had such a completely different experience and gladly spent our money there. read more

I went in for labor to change a drivetrain and they weren't super interested in providing service, which I am saying for 2 reasons. #1 my initial query was met with, you should look at our new bikes. #2 the quote i was given was almost 400 dollars for 15 minutes of work. I got a wheel trued but they broke the plastic gear guard, the owner was totally rude saying I made a big deal outa something not needed for bike. the wheel is true but they should have told me it was broken plastic on unnecessary part, he needs to go to politeness school for intensive trading re- education. being rude unfriendly is no way to run a business. read more

I would rate a 0 if it was an option. We've used Spokes for years and loved them previously. They must've have had a change in ownership as the service is now horrendous and merchandise is poor quality at inflated prices. At the beginning of the summer we took a mid-quality comfort riding bike in for a basic tune up where they upsold high-quality tires insisting it was the best option. A bit irritating but if they last longer, fine. Flash forward to this week when the upcharged bike tires that have 25 miles on them and are 2.5 months old are flat. Brought the bike back in to be told they: 1. Don't have a refund policy 2. Accused us of having must have put too much air, when we've not filled the tires at all as they were brand new and "top of the line" as of June. It's September 3rd. Would recommend you go anywhere else for service, or heck! Head to Walmart to buy a new bike as it would be a better bet than here. Save your money and better quality with a return policy. read more

Called to inquire about product and pricing, the person who answered the phone was not very polite. He kept on encouraging me to stop by the store. While he may have legitimate reason, but I felt the way he responded was not courteous, especially when I specifically stated that I wanted to find out the price and availability first. He asked, "Why is so difficult for you to stop by the store so I can take a look at your bike?" I did not feel he practice active listening. Not likely to consider this shop when initial inquiry did not go smoothly. read more

I took my old Raleigh in to get the shifter fixed. Immediately the (owner or manager) started criticizing every aspect of the bike, telling me I should not waste the money and buy a new bike instead. They fixed my bike for $100 but then had to be manaplained to a couple of times by the owner like I was an idiot! The owner is extremely abrasive, and likes to interrupt when I was trying to talk! I have been going here for about 10 years and have always found the staff to be more than helpful and accommodating. When I bought a new bike from them about 2 years ago, the service kicked into top gear. They are always right on top of any little problem I may have, and seem to really care if something is not perfect with my bike. I would recommend changing the name from "Spokes" to "Pokes." Here's my rationale: After dealing with the folks over here, you'll feel much like you did the morning after that drunken bar hookup that you pulled off in a moment of weakness, back in college-you'll be left with many unanswered questions, and you'll be fairly certain that you got screwed. I asked if a competitor's price could be matched on a 2012 model year bike. It was advertised for full MSRP at Spokes. The competitor's price was about 20% less. Before I had the opportunity to lay out my case, the guy insisted that it wasn't the same bike. He, of course, was wrong. It appears that consumer ignorance is key to the business model here. read more

You know when someone is good at something and you can tell they actually enjoy what they do? Yeah, that is how the sales person at Spokes, Naperville was. This was at least my 6th bike shop, some low end, some moderate, and I would have skipped them all if I had known how great an experience it would be. I got exactly what I asked for, it was in stock, for a decent price. By the third store when I asked for a 15" and they suggested I try an 18" I about gave up on bikes (and my thighs) all together. Luckily, my disposition is completely changed and I'm thrilled with my shiny new bike - it's beautiful!! Now I don't think that Spokes could have stopped the Titanic from sinking but they sure put an end to the sinking feeling in my tummy. God bless Spokes. read more

I needed to do an upgrade on my bike and my son's bike. I was looking for parts to "kind of" turn my mountain bike into a comfort bike and to upgrade my sons mountain bike wth a better seat and handle bars. I read several reviews that were positive and spoke highly of Basil, at the store. When I first set foot into the store, I could see the place was well stocked and neat. However, as soon as I mentioned my plan to Basil, he immediately changed his tune and began a lengthy sales pitch to basically forget about my bike and purchase a new one from him, for hundreds more than I was willing to spend. He did however seem well versed on his product line-up. Although he did tell me that he would be happy to sell me the parts, he mentioned that it was probably a bad idea to try my plan. And as soon as a repeat customer walked into the store, he was quick to dismiss me. I did make a small purchase, but it did leave me feeling as though he just wasn't interested in helping me, other than to sell me a whole new bike. My son and I left the store with the same overall feeling, one of "not really interested in your issues, buddy". Not sure if I'll be back. read more

In view of the covered 19 pandemic, their doors were locked but they were willing to let us in quickly. Secondly, they were very agreeable and taking care of me right away, or so they said. But then someone else walked in seconds after me and we're move to the front of the line so I want up having to sit and wait. But nobody said anything about having to wait they just made me wait. Then, they dismantled my wheel to put a new tire on but never actually reassembled the entire wheel with everything that was on it until I noticed it walking out of the door. So I had to go back and the guy doing the work mumbled something about some thing and didn't do anything to put it back to the way it was when I gave it to him. So I'm a little bit disappointed in the whole event but I was happy about the speed with which they got it done even though they didn't take me first like they should have. read more

I rode my bike home and it performed like butter, a smooth, easy, steady ride, with no clinks or clanks AND they cleaned it so it looked shiny new. I chose this bike shop because they are a specialized dealer. I needed to get my tires changed to road tires and figured i'd have to leave my bike there and come back a few days later. Well #1 i got approached as soon as i walked in the door, the guy who seemed to be the owner showed me the tires i wanted and they started putting them on right away. plus i bought a bike computer and they installed that as well. i'm so happy with my experience there , now if only the snow would melt so i could get out and ride! read more

I had a super great experience. I walked in, knowing that I'm interested in buying a bike but not knowing anything about it other than what they look like (well, that might be a bit of a overstatement but... you get the gist). I did my research before and was pretty much set on this shop based on it's reviews. I knew that I wanted to ride trails and roads, so more of a hybrid bike and being a beginner I wanted a good bike but I didn't want to spend too much money. Kyle was an "unfortunate" guy stuck with me. He was super patient, explained stuff to me and helped me pick the right bike for what I was looking for. He even helped me set up a bike carrier on my car. Very nice guy. Seemed knowledgeable about his job. I'm glad I picked this place. Thanks. read more

Impressed with the initial salesman and his advice and setup of my son's Giant bike, but the seat stem bracket constantly comes loose. I bring the seat in and explain what's happening- one guy (not the original tech) tightens the bolt up and says "good to go!" I again explained that I have torqued the hell out of that bolt and no matter how hard you tighten it, it comes loose again within a week or less. It is likely a bad design by Giant, but I bring the issue up with the dealer we bought the bike from 6 months ago and their response is "hands up, no idea- but this should fix it". Absolutely no comprehension or listening to the customer and the problem. Nor were there suggestions on how to permanently remedy the situation. I suggest using Locktight, asking "would that fix the issue?" Again, hands go up and a "I don't know. It's a good seat. Ask that customer over there (he points), he's bought 3 of these bikes from me & no problems like this". So I ask if they sell an upgraded model seat that will fit my sons bike. The guys says "why would you need to replace it, it's tight now and should work". I just turned and walked out - he simply cannot listen. It will come loose again in a couple of days. I'm going on-line to purchase an upgraded seat since the Giant dealer didn't want to sell me one as he thinks it is fixed. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. You try and give your business to the local dealer and there's no added value. So I'd rather go online to buy a better seat that won't fall off after a couple of days. read more

Went to yoga, Trader Joe's and stopped at Spokes to have my bike looked at. Loose kickstand and flat tire. I spent some time browsing through the bike accessories and before I knew it, fixed tire and fixed kickstand. The bill was just over $15. Good, friendly and really quick. I only hoped they had a bigger selection of bike accessories (flags, bags, lights, reflect tape, etc. Overall, I would definitely come back for my bike's boo-boo's. read more

Got a tune up. They trued the wheels, reset brakes, inflated tires, set derailleurs, and replaced a stripped bolt. Nice people, I'll definitely be coming back for any of my cycling needs. I am very pleased with the service I received from Kyle on all my road bikes and when it come to purchasing a new high end bike I recommend Basil. He is very knowledgeable and has help me improve my cycling performance and has has been quite welcoming to any last minute repairs or getting hard to get newly released specialize accessories or bikes they are the only place I would recommend when purchasing and fitting a specialize road bike.
