I purchased a mid range economy men's hybrid bicycle from a major retail store. They assembled it at the store and I basically had issues with it from day one. I looked up local bicycle shops and found Jim with Artisan Bicycle Company. I called ahead to make an appointment, but due to my work schedule I wasn't able to go in the middle of the day, Jim offered me the option to drop off my bike at the end of the day and pick up the next day. I arrived on time and believing the issue would be a quick repair, he said I could wait. I described the issue and he got right to work, not only did he fix the problem, he gave the whole bike a once over and fixed a bunch of other issues as well. The bike was initially just not assembled correctly and it never rode great, but after Jim worked on it it rides amazing. I really appreciated his extra addition to detail, his advice on bike maintenance and riding, and the fact that even though he fixed additional issues that were not included with the initial estimate, he only charged me the originally quoted price, despite working on it for well over an hour. Word of advice, if you buy a bike from a big box store, keep the bike in the box and have Jim assemble it correctly the first time. I highly recommend! read more

I had my bike fixed today. It had a valve come out of the tube so the tube had to be replaced. The owner identified a problem with my handlebars and the head of the bike and repaired that as well. If you've got a bike that needs a tune-up or a repair, don't bother looking any further. Jim runs his shop out of his garage in the back of his house a block away from the Naperville Metra station. I took my 15+ year old Schwinn to him with a bad derailleur & a slightly bent rim. It had never had a tune up or had any repairs done to it...and I got back a bike that looks & feels & rides like it's brand new! I would imagine you can get the same type of work done at store-front type bike shops for 25%-50% more... but being that Jim runs his shop out of his garage, he doesn't have all the overhead. I'm very impressed and satisfied.... it's almost a shame to get it dirty again riding on the bike paths around Dupage County. I can't imagine going anywhere else for bicycle service. I called Jim up out of the blue on a Saturday afternoon to take a look at and try to fix my wife's bike. It had some gear shifting issues. He mentioned that it was kind of late in the day and probably wouldn't be able to have it ready until Monday but to drop the bike of anyway. I made it by about 30 minutes later, rolled the bike into the garage and Jim immediately diagnosed the issue, fixed it and also did some minor tunes ups to a few other parts. Had some bent wheels and brought them over to Jim to see if they were fixable. He attempted a fix on the front, but it was too far gone. Trued up my rear wheel and recommended a shop where I could pick up a new front. Looks like he does a great job on tune ups, a finished one was sitting in the rack and looked as good as new. My bike had been hanging on the wall of my garage for three years. The back tire needed a new tube and it desperately needed a tuneup. I Googled bike repair in Naperville and came across Artisan Bicycle Co. I called right away and spoke to the owner, Jim. I told him what the problem was and he quoted me a very reasonable price, including pickup and delivery. Jim took the time to learn about my cycling habits and really helped me to decide between having this older bike repaired or buying a new bike. I really felt like Jim cared more about me making the best decision for me rather than just getting my business. I scheduled a pickup for 9:30 AM a couple days later. Jim arrived on time and took a look at the bike. He went over every detail of what would be done and then told me it might be ready that same day! I found out about this bike shop from a flyer at the Naperville train station where I park my bike. Artisan is located very close to the train station and provides outstanding service at very reasonable prices. I brought in two bikes to be repaired by Jim. The first one needed lots of work - it was run over by a van. Jim totally repaired the bike and it looks and rides like its brand new. As others have said, his turn around time is amazing - same day if you need it. I found Jim to be very flexible with dropping off and picking up the bikes. Along with repairs, he does a great job of tuning up and cleaning the bikes. I'll certainly be coming back to Artisan with all my bikes. Personal, knowledgable, and fast bike service at a reasonable price. My bike had been sitting in my garage for many years idle due to an issue with what I thought was a bad de-railer. I finally decided to fix it and called the Artisan Bicycle Company. I called up Jim and he told me to bring the bike right in. He took a quick look at the bike, rode the bike, tried a few quick tweaks and determined it was not the de-railer but some broken teeth on the gears. The next day he had my bike repaired and ready for pick-up. When he realized I would not be able to pick up the bike for a few days he suggested he could drop it off at my house that evening - can't get better than that. So, for the first Summer in 6 years I have been riding my bike to work instead of driving the 3-4 miles, better health and better environment. Following my recovery from hip problems, I was going to start cycling again. I had given my other bikes away, and before committing to another expensive bike, I thought I would start back with a hybrid from Costco, Though expecting to assemble it myself, I decided to research other options. Artisan Bicycle came up in a Google search; I called, expecting a hefty quote, and was pleasantly surprised by the much more reasonable one I received. Jim Durr, the owner, told me to bring the bike at 11 that same morning and he would have it assembled by 12:30 that afternoon. I couldn't pass this opportunity up. I arrived just as two ladies were leaving, one yelling over her shoulder "It's perfect" as they rode away I left the box with the bicycle in it with Jim and went off to have lunch. True to his word, Jim called at 12:15 to say the bike would be ready for pick-up at the appointed time. When I returned Jim 'fitted' me for the bike, making the necessary seat and handlebar adjustments before a final test ride.
