About five years ago I stopped into this store to find a saddle. It's hard to know what kind of saddle you need until you do some riding..a predicament I explained to the shop owner. He showed me several that I might prefer but ultimately, there was one that he recommended the most. I wasn't convinced so he told me to take it home for a couple weeks, test it out, then bring it back or pay for it. This while not having to leave any cash or deposit. It was a leap of faith that I really appreciated, so I tested it out and ended up paying for it. Went back in today for yet another component. Gone are my days with an SUV at my disposal so I was in need of a trunk bike rack. The guy who helped me looked up the make & model of my car to ensure that he was only recommending a rack that would work. My car is anti-bike rack....other bike stores in the area couldn't find a single make to accommodate. PPC was not only able to locate a rack that worked with my car, they had it in stock, and the gentleman who helped me also took the time to show me how to install it. I bought an e-bike there last fall. At the time of test riding I felt a vibration in the peddles and mentioned it to salesperson which basically was shrugged off. Never having ridden an e-bike before I thought that maybe it was normal. I did like the salesperson. I then went and purchased a carrier returned to store the next day to complete purchase. As it was getting close to closing I got some bum rushing. First they couldn't find original charger and suggested any will do and offered another. The owners manual wasn't present either they suggested just searching and downloading a pdf online. Mind you the bike was 3200, had been received at shop a few days prior and I also bought a helmet, phone holder and pannier bag for an additional whatever. I even told salesgirl she missed charging me for 1 of the items as she was hurrying everything along. Not a stellar experience. Long story short my wife also purchased a trek E bike at Michael's cycles in Janesville and had the complete opposite experience. Knowledgeable staff and orderly well stocked shop. We took both bikes there for preseason service last week and they found on my bike that the lock ring was cross threaded and the front sprocket was wobbly because it wasn't tight. Vibration resolved lol. I understand Prairie Path Cycles wouldn't have assembled this portion probably occurred at factory but maybe they should have found it before selling. read more

I have been to many bike shops, and I would rank this one low on the list. They only sell Trek bikes, and after trying several of the road bikes, the quality is just not there compared to other brands. While I was bike shopping, the staff was not helpful at all. There were three guys just standing behind the counter chatting. You'd think that if a customer was considering making a $1000 purchase, then the staff would be more helpful. Don't waste your time here if you're bike shopping. It might be an okay place if you just need a part. read more

So, I have been wanting a better bike than my Schwinn, and hubby dragged me in there to just "look". The staff was friendly and showed interest in how I would be using the bike, price range etc. They had me test ride a few frame sizes and styles till I found a good fit. And of course, I bought (a Trek Verve II). Loved the bike and had a little gear rattling. They made adjustments quickly for me, but then had a little mishap on the River Path. Let's just say I brake for scenic vistas and hubby does not, lol. So he rear ended me and broke the plastic chain guard. I took it back later that day thinking it would cost a few bucks and I would have to wait for a part, and they fixed it immediately and did not charge me! How nice... I think I will bring them a box of cupcakes to let them know their kindness was not lost on me. To be honest, I've never purchased anything big here. It's just too far away to be convenient. That said, I have purchased smaller items and accessories periodically. Once, on a ride picking up signs from a charity bike ride, we needed something to secure the signs in our trailer. They didn't have any rope handy, but offered a defective inner tube which worked fine. Their staff is friendly & helpful. They have plenty of stock and can support it well. The fact that it's right on the fox river trail keeps it at the front of my mind when riding there in case of problems. read more

Small shop with a limited selection, but it's well worth stopping in for the service here. I couldn't find what I was looking for in a helmet so they ordered in a few for me to try. I ended up picking up a few odds and ends I needed and the prices were fair but not the lowest in the area - but the couple of dollars extra were well worth it for the solid advice and help they offered. I went in to take a look around...it's not bad but not good - I overheard the sales folks talking to a customer and they just didn't seem to know very much...and seemed a little pushy. Like this man said he needed to think about it (he was looking at a bike) and the sales guy wouldn't let it go...bikes aren't cheap, some people need time. When I walked into the store I felt like I was in the Walmart bike department...it seemed rather unorganized inside so it was hard to focus on any one thing. Nice staff. We went in with some questions about tires, and you could tell they knew what they were talking about. They offered different opinions than other cycling stores in the area, so it allowed us to do some research. They were very no-nonsense yet friendly and accommodating. We will go there in the future for our bicycling needs. Albeit, I will say, that my husband and I are not avid bicyclers. Our version of "biking" is riding our bikes on the Prairie Path to an Batavia Creamery. Nevertheless, we ARE biking. I dropped off a bike Saturday, June 6th and was told 7 to 10 days and stopped by the shop today the 22nd of June, and my bike hadn't been touched wasn't even in their system and was very rudely handed back my bike and told they were too busy to work on it, and then told 3 employees (technicians) had gotten COVID-19 over the weekend. Then I was told they got it during the previous week. But to have a bike for over two weeks and then to be treated so rudely by an employee named _ _ ke with a huge attitude is no way to treat the public who is trying to support local business. Glad they are so busy and don't need my business, hopefully, others think before they drop off their bike. Since I own my own business if I had an employee like _ _ ke, I wouldn't have customers very long. read more

This is a short review; I will try to get something to more adequately express my thanks to Mike and Liam shortly. I was riding on the Fox River Trail with fiends and my freewheel broke on my 49 year-old Schwinn Super LeTour 2. Although they didn't have the 6 speed part in stock, they rigged a 7-speed unit that would get me home, offered me a discount because I'm a member of a local bike club, and got me in and out in a matter of 20-some minutes. I'd never been there before, but this is how a great bike shop treats people who respect bike shops. Fast, skillful work by friendly people. You get a work order with pricing and a call when the bike is ready. The location is convenient to the Illinois Prairie Path but even if you're well off the path and need to drive the bike to the shop it's worth the trip. They put new shoes on my old Schwin, cleaned the drive train, and took the squeak out of the brakes. I'm a happy rider again! Their pricing is reasonable with good buys on a wide variety of Treks and other brands as well. If my 40-pound Schwinn gets to be too much for me, I'm looking at Trek! read more

There are tons of bike shops in the area and lots much closer to me, but I'll definitely be making the trip to Prairie Path instead of closer options. I can get parts anywhere, and even more online, but where it counts is customer service. When I go into the shop it doesn't matter if I'm there looking for a super expensive road bike, or in my case yesterday, a bell for my daughters bike, I'm treated with genuine caring and kindness. Can't say enough good things about this place. I bought my son a used bike here last year and we've needed a couple of minor adjustments on it this year. They took care of the adjustments, cheerfully and quickly, and refused payment. When I needed a new wheel for my bike, same great service at a very reasonable price. They also handled a repair that I didn't even know was covered under a warranty so that I didn't have to pay for that either :) I wish everyone ran their business the way these guys do. I visited a number of Fox Valley bike shops but as soon as I walked into "Prairie Path", I knew I was going to purchase my next bike here. The staff was friendly and knowledgable and didn't overwhelm me with too many choices. And I know this might sound like a little thing....but it's a dog-friendly shop. As I bike with my dog (he has a custom bike seat), it was important for me to know that I could stop in here with my pooch. One of the Geneva bike shops has a big sign in their window "No Dogs" and while I'm sure they have their reasons, it's a little off-putting...didn't even go inside. With my bike purchase, I got a $50 gift card and 10% off accessory purchases. When I went back to spend my gift card, the sales guy helped me pick just the right bike helmut and even though he knew I was using my gift card, he spent lots of time with me and made me feel very welcomed. Bought my last two Bikes from Prairie Path Cycles and couldn't be happier with the experiance here. Deciding to move up to a road bike and seeing that they had a 2010 Madone on sale I went into the woodfield location. The first thing I really enjoy about this store is they didn't pressure me into getting anything I didn't want. They showed me the different road bikes and explained the differences to me. When I decided I wanted to go with the 2010 Madone Mike met me out at his Bativa location and showed me the bike. I really appreciated the amount of time he spent with me. When I was ready to pick up the bike he took well over a hour with me fitting the bike and getting me setup with shoes and clip in peddles. I also really appreciate the fact that I can come back at any time and they will adjust the bike. All in all great service. read more

Made my third visit to this shop today - close to closing time. I stopped in because I thought I needed new clipless MTB pedals - I received new biking shoes as a gift and tried to transfer the cleats from my old shoes; successfully got one done but a hex screw in the other was stripped. Because the set was so old I assumed I needed to get new ones. Despite being close to closing time, one of the guys, possibly the owner, took the time to ask me some questions, took a look at my current bike pedals and shoes and determined I only needed one cleat, he had a spare in the shop that he not only gave me but put on the shoe for me! We tried it out and it worked! My other two visits to this shop were for a bike tune up and to buy a chain/lock - positive visits all three times. read more

Needed a chain guard for my son's Huffy. We live in Batavia, so stopped here first. The young lady was friendly at first. She didn't think they had one, but she offered to check. She asked the two gentlemen working on bikes behind the counter. One of them asked what brand of bike. When I told him Huffy, he told me that they only had parts for the bigger brands. I read between the lines that if I had a $500+ bike he would have been willing to help. Since I haven't kept up with the ever evolving bike industry, I chuckled and said Huffy was big when I was a kid. The young lady replied that she didn't know Huffy was big back in the day. I'm only in my 40s, but she made me feel so much older and insulted. That was over two months ago. I found the chain guard at the third place I went and I just $400+ on a new bike and accessories from that shop. Prairie Path Cycles missed out on that sale. read more

Went to purchase new tires and shop for a new road bike for my son. Their website shows that the tires are in stock. One employee couldn't find them. She asked another employee who said that their website is often screwed up. I informed him that it clearly says "in stock". He said "I guess it is too good to be true" and walked away. They clearly didn't want my business. Sure it was for cheap tires, but they didn't need to be so rude. It is their website that is wrong. Didn't even bother to look at bikes.
