My "go to" bike shop for new purchases, tune-ups, and repairs is Sammy's. The staff is great, from Sammy and John on the front end, and Elijah and team at the service desk. It's not often that the owner of a very busy community-based business will dedicate his/her time to ensuring you are very happy with your purchase. On top of that, Sammy will put whatever he is doing down when children come to the shop, even if it's to just say hi. Not too mention the chartable work that the shop supports in different ways... I personally like having a shop near my home where I can browse and dream about the best bikes in the industry. I have worked hard for 35 years and it's nice to reward myself with a dream bike once in a while. I think Sammy and John get more from the smile on my face on "New Bike Day" than the closing of the purchase. I will support this local business with all of my bicycling needs and recommend them to anyone who is in the market for a new bike or repair. Ciao! read more

Review of Sammy's My experience with Sammy's has been extremely disappointing and honestly heartbreaking. I want to outline the facts of what happened so others understand why I cannot recommend this shop. Over nine months ago, I pre-ordered a Colnago Y1RS. From the very beginning, I was given two different prices and was told that I would receive the bike on release day. That never happened. Throughout the entire wait, I checked in roughly once a month and was repeatedly told that the bike would arrive "next month." We are now at the end of the year, and the bike still has not arrived. Instead, I was recently offered the same model in a different color--again with a promise that it would be available in "a few more days." On top of that, the price I was initially emailed in my invoice suddenly increased by almost $2,000, with no clear explanation. When I asked why the price changed, I was told they couldn't give me a reason and that I could simply cancel my order if I didn't like it. After nearly a year of waiting, being given inconsistent information, and dealing with unexpected price changes, I am deeply disappointed. This was meant to be my retirement gift to myself after 22 years of military service, and the whole experience has left me feeling sad and frustrated. Based on what I've gone through, I personally would not recommend doing business with Sammy's. I sincerely hope that Colnago USA and Colnago Italy are aware of the customer experience issues happening at the retail level under their brand. read more

I would call Sammy a flim-flam man. He will railroad you into a bike before you get a chance to fully think it over. All bikes were on sale but they sold me the bike at full price and charged me for a couple things he said he would throw in. He knows exactly what he is doing and he will screw you over with a smile. Service was over the top fantastic. I took a heavy duty bike tire in and Elijah said he would get back to me later. He called me a few hours later to say that the previous owner used an adhesive/ tire inflator so strong that he couldn't remove the tire to replace the tube. Long story warning: Very disappointed in this shop. I've come here about 4x for various maintenance issues ie: flat tire, loose chain, etc. The owner is very charming and usually present to overcharge for any product/service, while smiling in your face. I ride the trail near Sammy's often and came in today with a bent gear shift. Normally this is something that can easily be bent back with the right tool (from speaking w/a seasoned cycler who saw my issue). Sammy's told me almost immediately after looking at the bike that the entire bracket (not sure what all the parts are called but it was 2 pieces) would have to be replaced and quoted me a price that made me question the estimate. They attempted to pressure me into getting the service done, but I had an appointment and knew better than to accept initial pricing from this shop (they previously charged my bf $75 for an air pump worth $40). I had to leave my bike at the shop bc the issue occurred while I was out for a ride and was unable to ride home. I took pics of my bike before I left because I'm a social media freak and post everything. When I came back for my bike, my gear shift was noticeably more bent. I had to rush to an appointment so I didn't have time to address it right then. I decided to call the shop not long after and it was one of the rudest convos I've ever had. It went something like this.. Me: hi! I was just there earlier today and left my bike. I'm curious if anyone possibly moved my bike before I returned? Sammy's rep: (immediately defensive) no one touched the bike. We have cameras everywhere. Me: ok. Just asking because I took pics and it seems more damaged Sammy's: no. We didn't do anything. We were too busy selling thousands of dollars worth of bikes to notice. Me: ummm, ok. I immediately took the bike to a different local shop. They fixed it within 15min and charged me 1/3 of what Sammy's quoted. They offer a wide variety of bikes, I'll give them that but they are far from the best. Close enough for me to ride my bike to and they carry brands that I like..... I really wanted to like them but I can't recommend them. I brought my bike here for a service and they installed a new cassette and chain but my drivetrain is making more noise than when I dropped it off, they never greased my bottom bracket, my front chainring is making noises like a haunted house and never got addressed, the clogged valve core I asked about never got fixed, and to top it off they somehow contaminated my brakes so it was a great surprise to take the bike out and have to try to burn in my brakes in the lot while everyone waited for me. They never quite got back right and I ended up having to spend another $45 buying new pads to change myself. Hopefully I can clean the rotors and won't have to spend another $100 on new rotors too. On the sales end I asked Sammy about recommending a bike that could work for me - I'm trying to give the guy $4000 in business and he never bothered to. I ended up at a different Giant dealer that got in touch with the company and found a great bike that will work so I'm going up to the other dealer to get the bike. read more

I simply needed my 4 bicycles serviced and tuned up. They promised me to have them working like new, but shortly after I got them home had 2 flat tires within 2 weeks. We have been looking for our bikes upgrades for some time and got this store recommendation from my wife`s friend who is their customer for years. We have visited Sammy`s on weekend to check their inventory and ask for a professional advice. We knew we wanted Gravel bikes and did some research here and there but our knowledge does not go beyond basic thing a regular person would know about bikes. We met Sammy and Aaron and we felt we were in the right place! They are very professional and they definitely know a lot about bikes. Technology changes rapidly, demand is huge and getting the right bike within your budget may be a hard task, it like buying a car. Sammy showed us two great carbon frame Giant bikes, we rode them and felt in love right away. Nonetheless we did not want to buy them hot headed so we went home, did some research, red opinions, checked the prices , and availability. Next day we were back again getting those. Sammy told us everything about them, took measurements, gave us another ride to make sure we would be happy with the purchase. They offered free service if anything happens and they also offer financing option which we partially took for our purchase. All I can say that our experience at Sammy`s was a pleasure and we cannot wait to hit a trail on our new bikes :) If you need a new bike make sure you check them out, their apprehension on bikes is GIANT :) read more

I wasn't impressed with this bike shop. It seems to have some of the best high-end road bikes around, but the shop is filthy and none of the components seem to match the bikes. Each Colnago and DaRosa has mismatched components that were scavenged from other bikes. I watched the owner take an Ultegra crank and put it on a Bianchi with 105 derailleur. Who knows what sorts of brakes were on it. The biggest problem I had with the owner, aside from him trying to sell me a bike $500 more than I told him I could afford, is that he wouldn't keep his hands off my wife's shoulders and kept calling her "sweetie" and "honey". Maybe if he wasn't so busy groping her, he would have understood exactly what I was willing to purchase. I didn't purchase anything, and I will never return. read more

Bad Service for a shop full of large-ticket items. This is the closest bike shop to my work, and I decided to take my partner there on his birthday for a roadbike. We went in to get a bike and various accessories and got terrible service. While we were being ignored, I saw a couple other people around me buying merchandise and getting excellent service. I don't know if the bad service was because I'm not spending enough money, or if it's because I wasn't wearing the right colored spandex to match the right size beer bellies. The place was not crowded, it was a weekday, and it was the worst customer service I've ever seen in retail. The owner was rude and seemed like he was strung out on something. He certainly couldn't pay attention to a word I said. He kept bouncing from topic to topic when he did have ten seconds to speak with us, and then he would bounce back to the other customers. I had to keep asking for help. Even the bike mechanics couldn't concentrate on my questions. At least they had an excuse -- they were just plain lazy and only grunted when they spoke. As for the quality of the merchandise, the bikes are WAY over priced for the junkyard method used to piece them together. I had never seen Shimano Alivio mounted on a five-thousand-dollar Colnago before. Only with a Schwinn Cruiser bicycle seat would this have achieved Sanford & Son perfection. And I suppose the chipped paint on the bike matches the crappy chipped paint on the floor. Do yourself a favor, avoid this shop at all costs!!! I cannot recommend this shop, and I will never go there again. However, I do recommend going down to the shop on State Street where we were treated very kindly. That shop is a LOT CLEANER TOO! This place gets two stars for inventory only. They have some great stuff and the owner is passionate about riding. That's where it stops. Had my bikes serviced there initially. They both were not up to par once we got them back. Were told they would run like new. Not the case. Recently went back for a tri-bike. Wife was there before xmas and he quoted one price, when i went back he quoted a higher price which is about $500 more than what I can get it for anywhere else (online or locally). After doing tons of online research I new exactly what I wanted. A Focus Mares AX. Sammy's had it! I called to confirm the size, and they had it in stock. When I got there they let me ride the bike for as long as I needed. Sammy also showed me the next model up which was only $150 more. I liked both, but the one I had originally come in for was a better fit. They made a few adjustments to get the bike to fit exact, including flipping the handlebar stem so that my hands would not go numb. I was especially impressed at Sammy's ability to just look at me and tweak the seat height and angle for a great fit. By the way, the price on this bike was exactly what was shown in online reviews, not a penny different! I've been out on three great rides now and couldn't be more happy! I want to Sammy's Bikes on October 5th to get a new inner tube for my rear tire. I didn't notice at the time but they put in a tube that did not belong in the tire. It was a different stem. I cannot put air in my tire I do not know how the stem works. I have never seen one like it before. Unfortunately I did not notice it when I picked up the tire. They basically snuck one in on me. And they charged me $25 which is quite a lot of money. They also do not wear masks all the time or do not wear them properly. They also have customers that don't wear any mask at all. I attempted to call them today and they have not returned my call. So I'm basically out $25 but they have lost a customer. I would say a very shady operation read more

Good service, wonderful location. I was having issues with my bike (I'm actually still on my ride...) and they answered the questions I had out on the trail, pumped up my tires and were generally really friendly while they addressed my needs. In terms of aesthetics, the place is located in an old mechanic's garage, and you can roll right on in. Unsure about their selection, but I'm not (yet) in the market for a new bike, so it didn't matter so much to me. read more

Just bought a Scott bike, Swiss made from Sammy's. Highly recommend supporting this local business selling Hi Quality bikes. I was able to test ride it around Mt. Saint Mary's to get a feel of which bike would work best for me. I had some issues with colors of seat and handle bars that they took care of for a reasonable price. I bought my son a bike from a big box store last year and I had problems right away with it and employees in bike section were clueless. This store is fully equipped to handle all types of bike enthusiasts and given the incredible trails we have in the area its just what we need. read more

I've been going to Samm's Bikes for about 5 years. GREAT place for all biker types. I'm just a casual rider but they treat me like I ride for team USA. Sammy is always at the front and always says hi. Service on your bike is first rate. I went to another guy with some tire issues and the other guy could not fix it. They were a full $30 over the MSRP, and then offered to "come down" to the actual MSRP as a favor. But better yet, they sold me a saddle for OVER DOUBLE the MSRP. Was looking for a new road bike and after surfing the Web, stopped into Sammy's. although I had to wait for him to return to the store, the minute Sammy walked in, he measured me to determine the proper bike for me. He was very apologetic for my wait and bought me and my friend lunch while he fitted me for a Colgnago. Since I drove in from Chicago, Sammy made sure he adjusted the bike while I waited to avoid a second trip. I am new to cycling and went here looking to buy a road bike. I told the owner my experience and my budget and he showed me a very nice carbon frame bike within my budget. It was a very nice bike, it was used and according to him had one previous owner. I was skeptical to buy the bike, he told me there was a lifetime warranty on the frame and the fork, which was a big selling point for me since it was used. He kept telling me this was a great carbon fiber bike at an unbeatable price, and that it would likely sell right away if I didn't pick it up right away. So, regrettably, without doing any prior research on the bike I bought it. After I took it home I researched the bike and felt extremely cheated, first of all I checked what this bike is worth online and he overcharged me by about $400, and then I looked at the warranty information online and it had a five year warranty, not lifetime like he said. The thing that really sold me on buying this used bike was that he said it had a lifetime warranty, and when I found out it was only five years I returned immediately. I am very dissatisfied with this place because I was ripped off and lied to, I kinda feel like he took advantage of my inexperience. I personally had a horrible experience with this place and will never go back, I simply do not trust him. read more

Sammy's has a huge selection of frames, components, wheels, accessories and kits. One of the few places in the suburbs you can find the world's top brands. Huge selection of bikes & frames! I purchased a full carbon Colnago frame, Mavic wheels, Ultegra components. I got a great price, and a customized fit. I was in the shop for a couple of hours enjoying an espresso, and talking with many of the riders who call Sammy's home. I joined one group for an afternoon ride on my new bike, and had a blast. I've since been back and purchased a Scott Metrix 30 for my son and a Scott girls 20 inch. This could have been one of the best bike shops around here; unfortunately, don't shop there. The owner will try to over-charge you by thousands of $ over retail price, will replace new parts with old parts when you bring your bike for service, will sell you a brand new frame that, in reality, is 3 years old, and the list goes on and on. Instead, check places like Bycicle Heaven in Geneva, The Bike Shop in Glen Elyn, and Wheels Werks in Crystal Lake. All very nice bike stores, with very honnest owners, who will sell you what's best for you, at competitive market prices, not what they have in inventory... Sammy's even recently lost his best mechanic who could not keep up with this type of behavior. read more

I was riding on the bike trail and my handle bars were loosening up real bad so I googled a bike shop and sammys was the closest one which was about .4 miles away . When I got there I was greeted by a young lady , I asked if I could buy an Allen wrench to tighten my neck on my handle bars. I didn't want to buy or carry anything heavy so she suggested I buy a whole set of Allen wrenches for $29.99.really ! I don't want to carry a heavy Allen wrench set . So she did not want to help me , funny thing is I went to a auto shop right up the street privately owned and they helped me for free they tightened my handle bars that took 2 sec to tighten up. I decided to buy everyone in that building a POP for helping me out .thanks guys as for Sammy you guys are a money hungry bike shop they really don't care about anyone unless u buy a 1000.00 bike lol .east dundee has the nicest and friendliest service .don't go to sammys you'll be sorry. read more
