We recently visited Trek for a couple of our biking needs. They assembled my boyfriend's bike that was shipped in a move, and we also purchased a Thule 4-bike rack. After attempting to put together the bike rack at home, I made a return visit to Trek the next morning because we could not get it properly assembled. Josh was kind enough to install the rack on my Pilot. He walked me though all of the maneuvering of the rack and make me comfortable with operating it. I GOT A NEW BIKE! I, like many other people, have gotten into biking during the pandemic. I guess it's more like "rediscovered", as I was an avid biker in my 20's. Thing was, I was riding a 20+ year old mountain bike. After a few months of that, I finally decided I deserved a new bike. I did a little research online, and decided on a Trek. Plus, they are a Wisconsin based company, and I love all things Wisconsin! So I ventured into the Downers Grove store. Because so many people are getting back into biking, the store was swamped. Customers had to wait at the front of the store in order to limit the amount of people shopping. It was absolutely not a problem with me, and the employee at the front of the store was very polite when explaining the situation. All the employees wore face coverings. I was waited on by Max, and he provided excellent customer service. He asked me what type of riding and how many miles I was doing. Then he offered a few suggestions and showed me some bikes. He was professional, informative and had a great attitude. I asked many questions and he patiently answered them all. I actually left without making a decision on a bike because I wanted to mull everything over. Max wrote down the info regarding the bike I was leaning towards, and that was greatly appreciated. A couple days later I called and placed my order. I knew I would have to wait because demand was high, and I am far from the only one who wants a new bike. Again, not a problem (we are in a global pandemic people, so chill the efff out). About a month in I was so excited, I called to check the status of my order. A young lady named Sydney returned my call and left a message with the estimated arrival date. A few days before that date I received another call telling me my bike was in! I went to pick it up and Sydney was my sales person. She was awesome! Friendly, personable and answered all my questions. She helped me pick out some accessories and I feel like she actually shared in the excitement of my new bike! It was so nice to have a woman sales person. Most bike stores are dominated by men so it was so refreshing to have another female cyclist to work with. My experience with Downers Grove Trek Store was absolutely five stars! 4/17/2021-I have purchased 4 bicycles over the years, always good service, that was a few years ago, how times have changed. Stopped in today to purchase some parts and was greeted by some guy with an IPad directing traffic. WTF is this s#!t? It's a bike shop, have a separate entrance for the Hinsdale/Downers Grove bike snobs. I just wanted tires, tubes and some brake pads for 3 of our bikes. Steve L assisted with the tires and tubes ok but when I told him I wanted 4 of 0ne set of pads and 8 of the other he told me he doesn't think he can do that because I'll "wipe-out his inventory"...HUH??? Great business model Trek. Isn't that how these businesses make $$$ by selling S#!t??? I told Steve L I will look elsewhere and he was OK with that. (Why people buy online 101). I'm a runner.. I've run a couple marathons, many half marathons and countless 10ks and 5ks. Recently I decided I wanted to get into cycling as cross training for running and possible a new hobby. With that being said, I knew next to nothing about getting started and needed a bike, accessories etc. I started doing research online and tried a few different kind of bikes out. Buying a bike is a huge purchase for someone like me who sweats at buying himself an extra glass of wine or splurging at all, ha ha. I came into this trek store after deciding on the trek brand and my girlfriend and I were blow away by the level of professionalism, expertise and patience the staff had there. They walked us through everything, allowed us to test drive the bikes, and answered every question we had. I also purchased a new bike rack (i did say I was new to this) and the staff showed me how to set it up on our car. What I really liked was how they didn't try and see me a very expensive bike that would be too much. I explained what I wanted, my goals and budget. They took car of the rest. I have been to multiple bike stores in the past few weeks, and this is by far the best customer service I have received at a bike store. I don't remember the name of the individual who helped me, but I remember that he was half Irish and half Iranian. The staff at Trek took my bike in same day without an appointment to put on much needed new tires. They said I would probably have to leave it for a couple days but may get a text today they just weren't sure how long it would take them; I was ok leaving it due to it being a busy 4th of July weekend. Maybe an hour passed and my bike was ready! I did pay more than expected but I do think that was my negligence to realizing how much the final cost would actually turn out to be and regardless was worth the price for such great service! read more

They did one good thing and one bad. When I bought a trek Marlin 5 for my daughter they weren't selling 2020 's anymore so they gave her a trek 2021 for the lower 2020 price. Was happy about that. Now for the bad part. My son bought a Roscoe at the same time. He bought a 2020, but while he was waiting for it the price went up and they charged him the higher price. Not so good. When I was looking for a bicycle, they told me that they had just ordered a whole batch and the next day I can pick up my bicycle, offered to leave 50% deposit and pay the rest of the balance the next day and pick up the bicycle. As a result, there has been no bicycle for a week, when I called the store they said that the bicycle was delivered to them, and when I arrived they said that it was not delivered yet and I need to wait 1-2 weeks(in the best scenario ). Their goal is apparently to take a deposit , and then make the client wait, calling for new dates. I would not recommend this store for your purchase read more

At the end of March I bought my son a Trek bike for his birthday. On the way home the bike had a flat. The next day I took the bike back to Trek and they said they would repair the tire. I looked at another bike and thought it might be better for my son since it had thicker tires. Early last week we returned to pick up the bike and try the second bike. We were helped by a sales rep named Greg, who assured us that the original bike was a good fit for my son he did not need the second, more expensive, bike with the thicker tires. Since TrekFest was now going on, Greg said he would give us the lower price offered during TrekFest, and refund the difference. Greg and the other sales reps we had dealt with previously were extremely knowledgeable about the various bikes they carry to ensure that my son's bike was a good fit for him and for the street and trail riding he does. All of the employees at this store, including the service/repair guys, were so helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for a great selection of bikes to find the one that suits them best. Now, since I'm getting older I am looking at Trek electric assist bikes so I will be able to ride for longer periods without getting tired. I asked the employee helping me (dunno his name but he had a beard) about some customization- tires, handlebar grips, etc and he goes to the counter, presumably to crunch some numbers. After a few minutes I walk over to him and he's chatting with a female employee with short black hair. He looks at me and seems a bit surprised. "Oh, yeah," he says. "Sorry, I forgot." The only reason I even gave this place any stars at all is because they did a pretty good job. Outside of that, I rather stab myself in the face than go back in that place. The people in the joint could give a flying f*ck if you exist and if they do care I feel sorry for you, because you somehow managed to pull them away from whatever self-loathing menial task they in the middle of. Oh yes, I pity you, commoner should you ever darken the doorway of this establishment. Not a kind smile in the place. You will be generally met with the dead stare that says, "why are you bothering me with you menial task?" I should've realized it just by their phone etiquette. It lacked how-are-yous, have-a-nice-days and even a good-bye. My thank you was met with just a click. I was promised my repairs in a week and I didn't get my bike till almost a week and a half later. I would call and I would be promised something and they would not deliver. OR they just wouldn't call back. I had actually bought 2 bikes here and they are fantastic! I highly recommend getting one if you are serious about biking. The only complaints I have are the standard seats are uncomfortable, there was a backlog of orders so one of the bikes took 6 months to come in (and that was early) and corporate has the staff on mask alert (I don't blame the staff for that). My advice, buy one off season so you have it in time, and get something comfortable for your butt. read more

5 stars for Adam.. I was taking a ride with my girlfriend's son Monday 6/30 when some ominous clouds began rolling into DG and his tire started rubbing on the u-part of his fork simultaneously. We were right by the store so we came in and the lady who working the register gave some very helpful advice then directed us to the back for service. Adam was very helpful and quickly fixed the fork, which shocks had given out and was jammed into the frame (sorry I am not a mechanic). I explained I didn't have my wallet on me and he helped anyway, knowing we would be walking our bikes home in about 30 mins for 2-3 miles in a storm. I just moved here from the Wicker Park/West Town neighborhood in Chicago where hipster bike joints are a dime a dozen, but nonetheless very accommodating and community driven. It's nice to see a shop owned by Trek to have such good neighborhood customer service. I will be purchasing some gear and accessories from here in the future. Five Stars and a promotion for Adam!!! So I said that I wanted to purchase a new bike. None in stock. He tried to sell me a women's bike than tried to sell me a three thousand dollar bike. Very rude. Brought my "Specialized" bike in because the chain broke off, figured would have to get a new chain as it is a old bike. They went out of there way to figure out why the chain broke, and worked out the cheapest possible solution. Long story short they fixed the root cause and repaired the chain. Appreciated the honesty, they could of replaced several of the parts and i would of been none the wiser. read more
