Overpriced for their tire or tube repair. I have seen their customer service go down over the years and am saddened by this.

Ron Kittler is a liar on Google reviews. My background if…read moreyou will. I've worked on bikes since the late 70's, built engines and wrenched on cars since the 80's, worked construction and maintenance as a electrician for 36 years. Built a 26x36 garage from foundation to roof. Gunsmith all my firearms. I'm highly skilled with my hands right. Your neighbor Ron is all about $ and is nowhere near as skilled. Here is the story: I acquire a NOS 29" tubeless ready wheel set (Ryde Trace 25mm) for my budget build up of a Schwinn Taff Comp. I want to to use the wheels with CST folded tube tires to keep cost down. I try to mount the tires using plastic tire levers but the tube seems to get in the way so I decide to let a professional do it. I bring him the wheel set to install my CST tires with tubes on Sat 7/15/23. First he tries to mount one in front of me. After struggling he says "there cheap" after I said they are $300 set I got for $140. Then he says cheap wheel set is $800. I see where this is going now after he asks "you want to use these tubes"? Mind you there is nothing wrong with the tires or the wheels. The set is Ryde Trace 25 rim with DT Swiss spokes and Origin8 M3100 hubs. Ryde makes quality wheels for OEM bikes and have their own label. The Trace is a tough rim to get tires on if your new to it because of it's offset. Ron is no bike mechanic. I call on Tues 7/18 at 5pm thinking shop is open. I get voice mail stating he might call back. I leave a message about if he can't do it I'll come get them and find another shop. He calls Wed morning and says he can't do it, he tried, got it seated and blew one of his tubes and the wheels are garbage. I show up around 4pm and ask if he wanted anything for his trouble, he says no as he shuffles me out. Oh look he has a sign saying "No service work now". Ok, I think to myself. I don't look hard at the wheels as I know his game and I did not want conflict. I get home and inspect his handy work. I notice he punctured 3-4 holes in the rim using a metal tire lever, They looked like he used a can opener. Look at Ron's handy work. He wanted to sell me wheels so bad. He could not take his time. Ron just wants easy $. He didn't have the balls to tell me he fucked up. All the 5 star google reviews are from non mechanical folk that can't even air up their tires. If you want it done right do it yourself don't call Ron's FnA shop. The Ryde rims have been repaired with JB Weld epoxy by me. The tires are mounted (tubeless now).

He tried to push a new saddle, but I said I don't ride that much and that was as much as I wanted to spend. A week later he had my bike ready and a bill for $205. He had done a good job with the extender and the handlebar, but added bar grips that appeared used when I looked at them closely. If I had wanted to spend that much, I would have gone ahead and bought a new bike for $350. This guy is a bait and switch artist. Beware. Get everything in writing and make sure he doesn't sell you used parts as new.

I've had a hard time trying to frame this. I'll try this…read more I had to listen to a performative dood talk emanating from the floor worker to a customer about chain lubricant that went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on an on an on an on and on. And on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on and on and on and on and on an on and on and on and on and on. It was a long time. I waited. And I waited some more. I did some serious waiting five feet away in a red sweater. No acknowledgment. No letting me know it might be a while. But that would've likely stopped the upselling I started to see. So I turned me and my bike around and left. It's hard for me to be on my feet that long. That's why I bike. Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this. Going to the bike collective in Rogers Park instead next time.

Other years we've adopted a used bike that needs some TLC. This week they are working on upgrades to my kids' road bikes to make them better suited to racing on the velodrome in Northbrook. As always, the guy who helped us (Kyle) was knowledgeable about the options and had good advice about how to proceed. I knew that would be the case and knew that the shop is always fair about labor costs, which is why I brought the bikes back from Northbrook to have the work done. Long story short, this place is great, and you won't regret giving it your business.
