This is an awesome bike shop. I went in looking to buy a fat bike and the guy helped me decide that it really wasn't for me. There was no pressure. He just helped me out. I bought a number of accessories from him that I needed for my bikes (I have many!) I really love that they have an appointment system for bike repair. You don't have to leave your bike there hoping they will get to it within the next two weeks. I definitely recommend this bike shop. read more

I had some major surgeries recently and so looking forward to getting on a bicycle again! Recently went to the store for the first time and Ian and Steve both helped me that day! Of course I had a lot of questions and some decisions to make to ensure I was making the right purchase. Thank you so much Steve and Goodspeed Cycles! You both were extremely knowledgeable and went out of your way and above and beyond to make this happen for me. I will be picking up my cycle in the next few weeks! This is wonderful and family-owned business and all the employees definitely take pride was my observation. I called and was able to schedule a same day appointment, which was really nice since I have a big bike ride on Sunday. Steve was the employee that assisted me and was very personable and knowledgeable. I wanted a kickstand, a new seat and potentially some lights for the front and back of my bike for nighttime riding. Steve was thorough in checking my bike and making sure everything was in good condition. He mounted the kickstand and indicated that my seat was too low and not leveled, which might contribute to the lack of comfort. He recommended that he adjust my seat and see if that helps before purchasing a new seat. I appreciated that recommendation since he could have just had me buy a new seat. He also showed me options for the evening lights and I selected a set that looked pretty fancy. I should have asked how much they were, but I just assumed they were maybe $30. Nope...more like $70! Fortunately, the kickstand was cheap and there was only a $5 charge to install it and no charge for him to adjust the seat, add the lights or check out the functioning of my bike. After going to another bike store and being told that Trek/FX bikes would not be available until winter 2021 /Spring 2022, I went online and found out that Goodspeed (Homewood) was a vendor and decided to take a chance. Now, I didn't call before coming (which I would absolutely recommend) but when I got there 30m before closing time, I learned that it was by appointment only. Sue still graciously let me in, asked what I was looking for and let me test a couple models. By the time I narrowed down which bike felt the best, the store closed. Sue was super patient as she answered all of my questions about the bike and even pulled down a different color once I knew how I wanted to customize it. The repair staff was still in the store and they made time to swap out my pedals and add a couple accessories after my purchase. Once I was leaving, Sue even took a moment to assist with making sure my bike rack was secure before I took my new bike home. I thanked her for seeing me outside of the appointment and spending the extra time after closing. Excellent customer service!!! read more

My husband and I were in the store and as HOMEWOOD residents we were very happy to see it so busy, but they have no intake system with patrons. A number system, sign in system, of some kind. We were ready to purchase a bike, helmets, a three bike rack, but after 30 plus minutes of not being acknowledged in anyway by staff, we left. We are sorry but there needed to be a way to let the customer know they are in some way acknowledged and have a way of knowing they are in line for help. The store itself is wonderful with multiple services, but acknowledge your customers, let them know you are aware they have a place in line, like at the deli counter. read more

If you have a bike I would recommend going here for any maintenance or assembling a new bike. The bikes there are kind of pricey for me because I am a novice when it comes to bikes. I ride occasionally and for fun. But if you take cycling seriously then this is the place for you. The staff is very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. During this pandemic Customer Service has fallen in many industries. But not here!! After purchasing a Bike during the spring of 2020 and not having a Bike Rack to bring it in for assembly, GoodSpeed Cycle picked up by unassembled Bike. Within a few days, my Bike was returned - ready to go!! A few months later, I purchased a different Bike seat and asked if they would pick up my Bike again - this time switching out my seat. Even better, they sent Steve again and he brought tools to switch my Bike seat right there on my back porch. I haven't met the entire staff. Took my bike in today to have them figure out why the chain kept popping off. The staff at the store helped me right away, kudos to ghram. He told me what the 2 or 3 problems were and that they could adjust what needed to be adjusted and get me squared away for about $26, not a bad price. I am now walking home, it's a short walk, and they said usually it will take a week for them to have it ready. They pimped my ride with some high-tech gear so I'm ready to roll: safe helmet, coffee holder, hA! yes you heard that right ! fancy, high-powered lights, etc. You can buy accessories there and they'll install for you. This is a community shop that really cares about the community and its members. They do a reliable and thorough job on the work, and carry a variety of quality products (pro tip: they can even order products that you don't see displayed in the store!). The shop also offers free group rides and sponsors community events. If you go to the shop often and get to know the staff, you will see that they are always working hard to keep Homewood a great place to bike and to live. Their prices are not the cheapest, but the quality of the work and products is worth the price you will pay. They put time and care into their products and repairs, and in my opinion it has saved me money in the long run. This is a shop that is worth investing in! read more

I can only comment on the customer service here. I stopped in last week because I wanted to see what kind of beach cruisers they offered, and the customer service was awful. I must have came into the store close to closing (which I had no idea) but the young guy at the front desk was very unpleasant. Not helpful at all, he barely answered my questions, showed me any bikes, and was very unenthusiastic. I felt very uncomfortable and just ending up leaving because I felt unwanted in this place. I visited the Cal City location - I don't really have a bad thing to say. I felt they were very reasonable, prices seemed incredibly fair and the staff is kind and professional. A small thought / suggestion: I do think they could either staff up a little or figure out how to work a room better because there is some wait time - when I was there on a Saturday afternoon, there were 2 guys there and while it was clear that they were hustling - they were out numbered by the customers. I waited a solid 20-30 minutes to hand my bike over for repair. Even if it is a clerk who doesn't handle sales, or repairs but is just there to attend to people during high volumes could be enough. I love small business - I love that this outfit is located in Homewood and Cal City. I loved the final product, the price and the interaction because of this they fully earn 5 stars from me. read more

Originally, I wanted to buy a bike so I went to the Trek bicycle store and I wasn't satisfied with the service I had received. So, I looked online and found Goodspeed Cycles and gave them a call and the people over there were more then helpful and actually turned me on to a bike that was better than the bike I had looked at before. I know that from now on all my service or cycling needs will be done through Goodspeed because of how helpful they were in my original bicycle search. My wife and I decided to purchase bikes when we moved to the area. We were met with very knowledge staff. Violet was very helpful in sizing us for the correct frames. She let us try as many as we wanted before deciding on which ones to buy. There were plenty of choices for additional items (water bottle holders, lights, helmets, etc.) that were not overly priced. Josh made sure everything was how we wanted before we left. We rode them home as soon as we were done. I've never had a nicer bike in my life. It's pretty much nicer than my car. Was on a road bike ride on the Thorn Creek trail leading to the old plank Road trail... Hubs got a flat and we had spares with us but the spare had a hole in it. I had to ride up to Goodspeed to get another spare & some c02 cartridges. They let me in and despite the closeness to closing, allowed me to buy tubes & cartridges. They were amazing and a lifesaver. I recently bought an inner tube from GoodSpeed and as my father was putting it on he accidentally punctured the inner tube. We took the inner tube back to GoodSpeed and they told us they would be more than happy to put a new inner tube on for free as long as we just pay for the part. Turns out there were multiple problems with my front wheel. I needed new rim tape and a new tire because of wear & tear. They fixed all the problems and even gave me free labor. I paid for all the new parts and I can safely say I won't be going to amazon to get my biking needs anymore. GoodSpeed Cycles puts the class in classy. I brought my bike in and it was examined and a price was quoted to me which I paid in full . I explained to the man that checked me and that I did not want to spend a lot of money on the two bikes. Two days later he called me adding an additional $38 onto my bill for more "unseen issues". I explained to him that I was not happy and what was I to do because he had already started working on the bikes and would not refund the money I had already paid in full so I was obligated to get the other repairs done and It was way over what I planned on spending. He also said he would lower the seat on one of the bikes for me and that was not done. In my opinion this place is overpriced and when you give someone an estimate you shouldn't change the price in the middle of the job and tell them you were obligated to pay because they have already started the work. read more

I'm very happy with my my recent purchase of a NEW cruiser at GoodSpeed. It's been a fun experience. KNOWLEDGE OF OPTIONS. The gents at GoodSpeed were smart about a good range of optional parts to complete the cruiser. They were also smart on the aesthetics. THEIR ASSEMBLY WORK. Perfect, but of course it's only a 1-speed. FLEXIBILITY IF YOU'RE REASONABLE. Because it's late in the summer as I write this and some parts are out-of-stock from their distributors, they offered to work with me on installing some bric-a-brac if I could find such stuff online. VERY NICE. Bear in mind, however, that this is a new bike and they're trying to make up for deficiencies in their supply chain--it's stuff they SHOULD be able to get but cannot. SERVICING. All normal tune-ups are free they say. I prefer the 1-speed for Homewood with it's potholes, but it would matter a lot if you're buying a multi-speed bike. DELIVERY TIME. Very good delivery time given that I'm buying a bike in the middle of summer when everyone else in the USA is thinking the same thing as I am. The immediacy of Internet stock-availability info made my decision to wait for what I wanted a lot easier. CAVEAT EMPTOR: SHOP EARLY IN THE MODEL YEAR. If you order a bike (as opposed to buying what you see on the floor at GoodSpeed), it may be decorated in a way that you did not expect. Mine arrived with some subtle hippy-punk decoration that is NOT shown for the model at the bike makers web-site. They were surprised, I was surprised, and no one would have been surprised if I had ordered before the bike season started. I'm growing amused by the decoration now. But if what you see on a bike-makers website is what you EXACTLY want, you'd best talk with them about that. ALL OF THIS WOULD GO FOR ANY BIKE SHOP. PRICING. I shopped around for this 1-speed cruiser and there wasn't a lot of variance. I did very well with GoodSpeed. read more

These guys are awesome! I bought an Electra cruiser from them a couple summers ago, and the leather on the saddle started to come off, and the staples holding it under the seat started to fall out. I brought the seat in and they were more than happy to call Electra for me, and ask about a replacement, even though it was an older bike apparently. Justin worked his magic and got them to send replacement. He was very prompt in shooting me a call to update me on the progress, and I got my bike saddle within a week and a half. Besides Electra being a bit faulty, which is no relation of GoodSpeed Cycles, I was 100% satisfied!!! Thanks to the guys at the shop, I love my comfy saddle, and glad its back to normal now. read more
