We wanted to try the newly renovated Splashes Restaurant for ourselves. I'm giving it three stars because the ambiance is five stars, but the food is really one star. Our waiter was excellent and deserves five stars, while the manager gets one star, so I guess it averages out to three stars. I didn't read the reviews beforehand because I wanted to judge it for myself, but I agree with many other Yelp reviewers that the food just isn't very good. After lunch, I realized for myself that the food wasn't that good, and several other Yelpers mentioned that dinner was mediocre as well. This feels more like a place to come for a drink, relax, and enjoy the beach view. The reason I'm giving the manager one star is because I wanted to host my birthday dinner there - this was before lunch was served and reading reviews. The waiter suggested I request Table 33, which is in a beautiful area, but when I spoke with the manager, he refused to reserve it even though my dinner is still two months away. I don't know how they do business, but this doesn't seem like the right way to handle a customer request. If I come back--and I probably will, because the setting is beautiful--I'd likely order a small hors d'oeuvre and a drink.
If you're coming here for the service, the ambiance, and the environment, then this place gets a plus. It's a quiet little restaurant inside the resort hotel. We came here mostly for the view of the beach while eating. On that point, they get five stars. Overall, the food was okay, but obviously pricey, being that it's at a resort hotel. The octopus was overcooked. The outside was way too crispy and tough, but at least the inside was still a little bit tender, yet chewy. At least they didn't overcook the steak. It wasn't overcooked, but definitely not the best steak I've had. The fish tacos had a great big chunk of fish in them, and they were good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the staff gave great service and were prompt and friendly.
With recommendation from two friends (one being a local), we ended up getting a spot for late breakfast. All other times were not available. The day of visit, severe storm warning was issued so all the doors were closed, all the umbrellas were folded and getting ready for the storm. The views were amazing. Almost right over the water. The name Splashes definitely fits it. For breakfast, menu was simple and nothing really stood out. Short rib skillet anyone? I was expecting to pay more for the views but wasn't too exuberant . My drink wasn't good. Definitely needed a money back. Felt like it was diluted. Presentation was C rated and also glass had some juice that was spilled. Should have been wiped before serving. The restaurant of this caliber and price on high side, definitely needed an improvement. When one goes wrong, all else will look not as good as you had hope for. My lox with everything bagel was good. Service was ok. For the views, I will be back.
Splashes is an amazing spot if you want a great ocean view and a relaxed, upscale vibe. Valet was not expensive, and the staff was very friendly and helpful from start to finish. The best part honestly is the atmosphere. Sitting outside with the sound of the waves crashing while you eat is next level, and they have heaters that keep you warm so you don't even feel cold. Food-wise, it was good/OK overall, but there were a couple standouts. The short ribs were very tasty, and the sea trout was solid, very similar to salmon. I'd love to come back during the daytime to catch the view in the sunlight. Definitely planning to return.
WAVE AFTER WAVE PLEASE COME CRASH INTO ME... SPLASHES Restaurant, Laguna Beach, California! This is one of my Husband's and my Favorite Date Spots! I don't know of another location in Laguna, where you are so close to the Ocean! It's a Wonderful place to Wine & Dine, Beachside, and have the Waves literally come Crash & Splash into you! We LOVE their Fantastic Weekend Brunch. They have their lovely main SPLASHES Restaurant that opens for Breakfast Daily, bright and early at 7 am and have a separate intimate SPLASHES BAR, on the Beach, which opens at 11 am - 9 pm! Their Crab Benedict ($33) is Absolutely Delicious! And their Grass Fed CheeseBurger ($32) is Legit & Tasty too! Be prepared to spend some dough because you're gonna wanna stay for a while! The service is Always Friendly & Fabulous! The Surf & Sand Resort has valet parking, and I hear the restaurant validates your parking, but we have always been able to find street parking. I Highly Recommend this Ahh~Mazing Beachfront Date Hot Spot! :)
Great place to go for the view and drinks on a sunny day. The food was overpriced for what it was but I guess you're paying for the view. We watched the dolphins swim by while eating. The service was alright, it took a while to be seen. But every single person that came to the table for drinks, food, and the bill were really nice.
This only a 2 star review because Aaron our waiter was great. This restaurant has gone down hill since the remodel. The head chef was elevated to a new position and the food has suffered. The service is still top tier but the food is not. On top of that they've removed the olive tapenade and fresh bread they offered. When I asked this teenage boy In a suit names Julien (8 don't know if that's how he spelled it but he looked like it was spelled this way) he said it was to elevate the restaurant. That may be the dumbest thing I've heard. The best restaurants in the world still do a bread service.
Beautiful hotel and restaurant! We came on a Saturday morning with my family and had a great experience. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning, Our server, Alfredo, was wonderful, very welcoming, attentive, and checked on us often without being overbearing. Service was definitely a 10/10.The food was good and everyone enjoyed their meals, though I'd rate it around an 8/10. We'd definitely come back for the ambiance and excellent service!
Great atmosphere right on the water! The service was great with very friendly staff. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us champagne toasts to start the meal. We got the rolls with butter, the Seabass, and the short ribs. All were tasty but nothing stood out. Although we didn't drink, the cocktails looked interesting. Come here for good views and vibes!
I came here for my birthday and was pretty disappointed. The view is amazing but the service and food was okay at best. The pricing of the food definitely does not match the quality of food. I'm no stranger to spending $100+ per person on food but the food was very lackluster and lacked a lot of flavor. The service was also just okay, there's way better service at other places and they actually make you feel welcomed. When I first got there I noticed a waitress by the entrance who just ignored us. One thing I noticed is that even though it was my birthday, I never received a card signed by the staff. Every other table that came in for a birthday or anniversary received one except me. My boyfriend wrote it in the notes when he made the reservation and he mentioned it again when he called them. They did give us a dessert though. Overall I will not be coming back. There's better places at the same price point.
I really recommend this restaurant! I've had my fair share of restaurants at Laguna Beach and this is by far the best one I have been to. Getting to the restaurant and seating: This restaurant is inside the Sand and Surf Hotel which has beautiful oceanside rooms. Your best bet for parking for this restaurant is street parking, however, they also have a valet. Walking into the hotel, there is a beautiful oceanside view great for pictures (especially sunset). The restaurant is located on the fifth floor, and you take an elevator at the end of the hall in the lobby to get there. This restaurant has plenty of seating all with great views. Honestly, sitting both indoor and outdoors is great at this restaurant as they all have great ocean views. For the outdoor seating there are two stories all facing the ocean. The inside has rooms and just seating facing the sky high windows that directly overlook the ocean. All 10/10 views. Service: They were honestly so kind! I went for a birthday celebration and my reservation was at 7pm. However, I arrived early and asked if I could change my reservation to an earlier time. I was able to get our table in just 10 minutes. For my birthday, they even provided a complimentary crème brûlée at the end of our dinner and provided a birthday note and the beginning of the meal which shows their care for customers! The crème brûlée was great- not too sweet, and the fruits weren't sour at all. Servers checked up on us a lot and ask how we were doing and if we needed anything else; great service overall! Food: I actually really enjoyed the food here. We only ordered two plates as we weren't super hungry, but the food surprised us! We loved the tenderness and softness of the chicken and the truffle and corn flavor in the other dish. I definitely will come back again just for the food. Overall, the views, food, and service was great and I really enjoyed my dinner here. I will definitely come back again to enjoy more!
First review of the year (kind of), but more of a well-deserved shoutout! This was our second visit to Splashes, this time for a late Valentine's Day dinner. We were seated outside, and everything was perfect--the weather, the view of the ocean, and the stunning sunset. The real highlight of the night? Our waiter, Alfredo. He was awesome! incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive--going above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. As always, the food was delicious! Both in presentation and flavor. And I have to mention the espresso martini... one of my top faves would be Splashes' version. Hubby and I are already looking forward to our next visit! read more

When making reservations, request a table with a view, as it is absolutely breathtaking. The food and service here are very good, reasonably priced with an excellent wine selection. We dined here for Sunday brunch and ordered the margherita pizza, steak and eggs, mahi mahi tacos, French toast and truffle fries. The margherita pizza was excellent; the tomato sauce was tangy and flavorful. The cheese balanced the tanginess of the sauce and added extra depth. Our second favorite item was the truffle fries! Crispy outside, soft inside, the fries were perfectly prepared. The truffle flavors did not shine through; however, the flash fried rosemary and parmesan cheese made these fries irresistible. The "steak and eggs" were packed with flavor, with the chimichurri sauce that dressed the steak. The egg (yes, one egg!!) was crispy on the outside and perfectly sunny side up! But why one egg? The mahi mahi tacos were slightly spicy, tender but lacked the depth of flavor I was anticipating; however, they were still good. The French toast was served with seasonal fruit and dulce de leche vs. maple syrup; but if you ask, maple syrup is available. The portion of this toast is very small; therefore, if you are hungry, consider adding sides. read more
I went to the bar and not the restaurant. The staff was lovely, but the vibes were the star. It felt like I was on a luxury yacht in the water because it was high tide and sunset. The views are unparalleled. I ordered a glass of rosé and it was good. My friend ordered a tequila cocktail and it was also good but very small. Beautiful restaurant right on the water in laguna! Came her for a Valentine's Day dinner and we were seated by the water during sunset. Absolutely gorgeous view overlooking g the water and waves. Free street parking outside or valet at the resort. They just went through renovations in 2023 and the ambiance and interior design is beautiful. The food was good, not the best considering the price point, but I've always said that restaurants on the water in Laguna are 90% ambiance and view, and 10% about the food. Our waitress let us know that the head chef has been working there for a decade and we think that's really amazing, but can also acknowledge that the food didn't blow us out of the water. We ordered the branzino, Dungeness crab raviolo, sweet potato gnocchi, and their special which was a sea bass. All in all the food was okay but unless you get a seat by the window overlooking the water, I personally don't think it's worth it. read more
Stayed at this hotel for a recent event and ate here twice. Lunch (tacos) was okay but dinner was amazing. Salmon is cooked very well. I don't even like lobster bisque but on a whim decided it try theirs and it was the best soup I've ever had. Staff is very attentive and friendly. They give you two little chocolates after dinner - very nice. The restaurant is at the edge of the hotel so you can look right out to the ocean. Great views! Beware that it is PRICEY. Tacos were $33 before tip. Soup and salmon came to $74 before tip. read more
Came to Splashes at the Surf & Sand Hotel for the oceanfront views, which truly are stunning but unfortunately, that was the highlight of the visit. The food was a letdown, especially for the high price point. I ordered the steak and eggs, and was surprised to find only one egg on the plate... Sitting on top of a bland, cold steak. Absolutely no flavor. At this price, you expect at least basic seasoning and a hot plate. To be fair, our server was fantastic very attentive and kind. The host, on the other hand, came off cold and borderline rude, which really started things off on the wrong foot. They did try to make up for the food by comping a plate and offering a free dessert, which I appreciated. Happy to say the cheesecake was amazing. But overall, it's just not a place I'd return to. Overall Experience: 5.9/10 We went here for our anniversary and the ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful. It was right next to the beachline, and the views were so beautiful. The tides were hitting against the beach was breathtaking. The service was amazing, our waiter was super helpful with the menu, and super kind, but the service was sometimes would be a little slow at times. The Food: We ordered the pullman loaf, the lobster bisque, corn and crab risotto, bristle scallops, and seared halibut. The pullman loaf was a little overcooked, the loaf was small and was hard and dry on the outside, but the middle was soft. The bread itself was bland, there was no sweetness, and just tasted milky. The butter we received to pair with the bread was generic unsalted butter, but it tasted good with the bread. The lobster bisque was the biggest disappointment, as there was a really distinct and sharp bitter taste to it. The service allowed us to take it off the bill at the end of the meal, but we were looking forward to eating the bisque. The crab risotto was good, creamy, we loved the corn inside of it as it gave it nice sweetness. The portion size for the dish we thought was a bit small as there was only one piece of crab. The green creme sauce added to the dish added a great touch and made it taste great. The main dishes were either a hit or miss. The scallops tasted a little bit charred, the green sauce with the vegetables didn't pair amazingly as the vegetables were raw. The natural sweetness of the carrots didn't help the scallop's charred nature, but the puree did taste flavorful. I did like the candied yams on top of the dish however and added a great crunch. The peas also tasted good, but it seemed like it wasn't in season as they were a little bitter. The seared halibut was the real star of the show. If I were to ever come back it would be for this dish. The fish was seared and seasoned perfectly, the chorizo's smokiness with the sweetness of the corn puree was so perfect. This was one of the best dishes I have had. The fish was flakey, and pairs so well with the sweet corn and the fatty chorizo. Overall: I would like to think this was a one off dinner service experience, as the halibut was so good. I may come back in the future just for that dish, but the other dishes were a slight let down with the expectations I had coming in. read more

Splashes is a 10-star dining experience. Celebrating my honey's birthday with brunch, crashing waves, and ocean breeze was MAGICAL!! FOOD I am a cinnamon roll and avocado toast connoisseur, and both are outstanding!! The Avo toast had just the right amount of avocado, juicy tomatoes, and crunchy sourdough toast. The cinnamon roll, yummy!!! SERVICE Rigo and Jorge made the brunch with their big smiles, friendly, fun banter and attentive service. The birthday surprise at the end was a nice touch!! They are kind and professional. I highly recommend Splashes for dining, its a wonderful dining experience. read more

Last month, I came here during my little get away to Dana Point/Laguna Beach for a staycation. I came here for an early dinner. Before dinner, I went to beach with access from their restaurant. The beach is breaking with beautiful crashing waves that I enjoyed dipping my feet in. After about twenty minutes. I went to my reserved table which had a gorgeous ocean view outside. I started with a fresh salad and then had their garden Fettucine with added shrimp. Both were delicious and the service here is impeccable. I also had a beautiful & refreshing cocktail. We had dinner here every night because we are staying at the hotel. We have stayed at this hotel several times. The hotel went through a major makeover. The restaurant use to be dark and uninviting. They brightened it up on the inside. Chef Ron Fougeray is AMAZING. The hostesses Hayley, Dayrin, and Sydney are excellent. They greet us with their beautiful smiles. Our servers Carson, Alfredo, Deanna, & Lauren are terrific. Chef Ron created some of the most amazing dishes. If you've never had Lobster Bisque - you should really try his. Absolutely delicious. I had it everyday. We also had Branzino, Lamb, Fettuccine, Halibut, Octopus, Filet Mignon, Artisan Bread, and two varieties of Salads. We are not big fans of Octopus or Halibut but Chef Ron turned us around. The Octopus was so tender and not chewy. The Halibut was moist and flaky. The best we've ever had. If you are ever in the area go check it out. You will enjoy the food and the spectacular view of the ocean. read more

My daughter celebrated my bday at this beautiful restaurant inside a wonderful resort, everything was spectacular since the entrance, the reservation was easy to make, the waitress Lauren gave us a great service. The table was next to the glass to see the beach view, no parking problem because of the valet parking. Everything is clean and organized, the bar is going downstairs and the access to the beach. The food so tasty and the presentation was amazing. Affordable prices, if you are planning to have a wonderful time, this is the right place. read more

Nice restaurant with above average food. My wife and I went on a Sunday morning just to relax at the beach and she found this wonderful restaurant. The breakfast menu is pretty limited which I understand. Very Californian with a lot of healthy options. I had the King Salmon with bagels while wifey ordered the Egg white omelette. Since I normally do OMAD or 16-8 fasting, I normally skip breakfast but the portion size were perfect. It's just good to see restaurants starting to do right sizing on portions rather than stuffing volume down your throat. The service and the ambience were definitely the highlight of the visit. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous dining view! Truly one of the best oceanfront dining I've been to in SoCal. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite rise to the level of the scenery. Dishes were mediocre at best, lacking the flavor and finesse you'd expect from a place with such a spectacular backdrop. The drinks were undeniably beautiful--almost too pretty to sip--but they ended up being more impressive in presentation than in taste. My boyfriend and I came to Splashes to celebrate our anniversary, and I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was beyond kind, attentive, and genuinely excellent. The entire team went out of their way to make us feel special. They even surprised us with a handwritten card signed by the whole staff. Not a generic card - an actual handwritten note!! That alone was one of the sweetest, most thoughtful gestures I've ever received, and it meant so much to us. We had a front-row view of the ocean, watching the sunset from our table, which made the evening feel magical. The food was incredibly fresh and absolutely delightful. Just when we thought the night couldn't get any better, we were heading out after paying the check and ran into our amazing waiter, Pablo, who surprised us with a creme brulee that said "Happy Anniversary." We had stood up just moments before he got to the table and he managed to catch us before we left - impeccable timing Pablo! It was delicious and such a thoughtful way to end the night. This restaurant doesn't just have great food or beautiful views - it has heart. If you're looking for a truly special place to celebrate with someone you love, I cannot recommend Splashes enough. The best place for brunch! Lauren, Ayden, Mathias, Marco did an amazing job serving us. They brought us a happy birthday crème brûlée with a candle for my mom's birthday. This place is so lovely for videos, pictures and seashore activities. Simon from Valet also took care of us. Highly recommend. read more

Whether it's a date or a get-together with friends, this beachfront restaurant is my top choice. Reservations are required, and valet parking is available. This restaurant doesn't need atmosphere; it's all there. Especially at sunset, when the water turns golden--that California-esque filter! I personally found some of the dishes to be absolutely delicious! Spanish octopus Whale Bay mussels Steak tartare Corn and crab risotto Seared Bristol scallops Whole grilled sea bass I'd order all of these! I wouldn't recommend the oysters; their quality is spotty and they can sometimes have a fishy aftertaste. read more

3 stars because the food was mediocre, service was as slow as the sunset (except the the busboy... he was so awesome we tipped him outside the bill), and atmosphere was to die for. So the average is 3. You can not beat the view. You can not beat the location. You also can not beat a dead horse which is also relatable to the service we received. I had such a good time there on my birthday. The service was phenomenal and my waiters were there for me in a flash. The food was all right. The service here was exceptional! A waitress who was a bit of an older lady was super attentive. She went above and beyond. The views are to die for! You are literally right at the beach . And the food and drinks did not disappoint but we kind of figured. Like they say you get what you pay for and this was worth it read more
THE STAR OF OUR CALI TRIP!!! This is now in hubs and I's top 3!!! To start, the lobster bisque was good, but a little too nutmeggy? The bread dipped really well in it though. Hubs' wagyu steak dish was next level, I should have ordered the freaking steak!! The steak was cooked perfectly, melted in your mouth and the vinegar potatoes... omg. My halibut dish was good but compared to hubs'... it couldn't compare. The apple tartin dish was soooo good and the creme brulee dish was the best creme brulee I have ever had!! Service was even beter, we asked to be moved to a seaside table and they had no problem moving us + provided blankets for the chilly night!!! This restaurant has never once disappointed me. I've been here 3 times now and each time have gotten the same server, Jhoana. She truly is the best server I've ever had when eating out. She takes care of you so well and you can tell how much she loves her job. The food is amazing as always. I love their pasta dishes and their wines are great. I've only had one of their cocktails but it too was great! Just to top it off there really is no bad seat in this restaurant. Both outside and inside have spectacular views and it's always stunning at sunset. I can't wait to try their brunch because I'll for sure be back! Thank you Splashes read more

Service was amazing . Pete and Sutton took great care of us . We sat at the new bar area, with a beautiful view . Our dishes were very yummy ! We had the branzino and octopus , excellent choices!! Oysters were good but kinda bland . Me highly recommend the branzino dish . For our dessert we had crème brûlée, you can't go wrong with that . We will definitely come back ! read more

Many dishes are precomposed with certain ingredients and so that may be difficult, but there are great options if need be.
Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?
The interior of the restaurant on the same level of the host stand is wheelchair accessible however I believe certain exterior patio seating does require some stairs that do not make it as wheelchair friendly unfortunately
What floor/area and table has the best view?

I am a vegetarian and they do have vegan and vegetarian options. You can also substitute meat items for veggie options! They try to accommodate everybody's needs for sure!
Does anyone know if they host smallish wedding receptions for like 50 folks ( 2021 summer )?

This is open to the public, however reservations are required. The entrance is in the hotel. You can use the hotel parking.
