We came on NYE. There was music happening at 9pm, but we came early and missed it. That was our fault. We were the only ones there. The experience was all over the map. The owner served us initially, and he was really friendly and funny. We ordered a bottle of wine, and some cocktails. We put in some salads and an appetizer, they were really really good. But after that, our server (the owner we were told) left, and another server introduced himself. The new server was inattentive. He sat chatting with the other servers at the bar, leaving empty glasses and empty plates on the table. We had to flag him to come back to fill water. Having been myself in the service industry for years, my biggest pet peeve is when servers sit and chat where you can see them, and when they do come, they don't do a sweep and take care of things on the table. We had to put our empty glasses and trash on a side table. It was weird. The bolognese had hardly any meat in it. It was mostly tomato and onion. I've been to Argentina. Meat is a staple. Also weird. We ordered dessert and after waiting for 5-10 minutes, the server came back and told us they were missing crucial ingredients to make it. The owner came back at the end and was really gracious, but all in all, I think the execution was lacking. The service was not great. The food was 3.5/5 I love to support small business, perhaps we will try again another night. read more

First beer release from 237 Ocean. I'm a beer guy so love that they're making their own beer now since I remember coming here when it was a brewery. It's definitely been upgraded with higher end furnishings and a farm-to-table menu. The servers and staff are always friendly and welcoming and do their best at getting to you when it's busy. We love the various types of seating with some family-style seating as well as outdoor couches and chairs to watch the people go by. read more

This is a very good Argentinian restaurant with a pretty outdoor and indoor decoration. We went to this place on a Sunday night at 8:30 and when most restaurant were closed they were open and had DJ inside with a dancing crowd. Since we were there for dinner we sat outside and the owner came and tried to make our outside sitting comfortable. He also stayed and chat with us for a while which was very nice. We started with appetisers and beer. They have their own beer which was delicious. Their Empanadas are the best we've ever had but the shrimp was ok and nothing special. As for main dishes my chicken piccata and the steak was fantastic. This place also has different Dj's and events on Fridays and weekends. read more

We were at the Festival of Arts and afterwards decided to stop in for drinks because we can hear the music from the street and it looked lively and fun! We sat at the bar and we had the Minty Grove because I wanted something refreshing and of course an old fashioned. This place has a lot of whiskey to choose from. Both drinks were great! The Girls wanted to come here for a "night cap" so we made our way to 237 Ocean Avenue Lounge. Very elegant & very busy. Service is a little uptight but once you break them in (lol) they're pretty great at what they do. We ordered appetizers, which looked very delicious and smelled phenomenal but I didn't have any because I was still full from Dinner and as for Drinks again I don't drink but my Watermelon water was delicious and refreshing ! Food was not what the menu described it to be, my mahi mahi with broccolini and rice came with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and I'm fairly certain the fish was not mahi mahi.... The drinks were good and the ambiance was nice but there were also some strange vibes in the evening. May be a better place for an early drink before dinner. 237 Ocean Ave is a great place to eat and people watch. It is located right in the middle of downtown Laguna Beach and it has seating on a patio. The patio has shade and allows dogs. There is a nice bar with seating and additional seating inside the restaurant. I love their salads, short rib pappardelle and seafood entrees. I have never had anything that wasn't delicious. They are also very good at making sure their customers are taken care of and happy with their service. read more

Came by on a Thursday evening for happy hour and very pleased with the atmosphere! Creative space with a family run feel, very homey vibe. Unpretentious but serious about quality food and delivering a great experience. Wife selected an Argentinian Chardonnay and really delicious empanadas, I went for the spicy shrimp which was surprisingly big for an appetizer and had a fantastic fresh chopped garlic, herb and pepper dressing with a rich of sweetness. Visited in a Friday night a little after 8. Live dj was turning out chill tracks in a decidedly upbeat atmosphere with gorgeous ambient lighting. Friendly and attentive servers and bartenders tended to our needs. Get the empanadas. They are definitely made with authentic love, moist, perfectly seasoned, melt in your mouth variety. The chicken samosas were my second favorite, the smoky, spicy sauce adding that extra touch. It's cozy but energetic, a mixed crowd, and somewhere you instantly feel comfortable enough that you'll want to return. Bonus: the owners are super fun and genuinely enjoy being around. They have a cute dj set up and a small dance floor but if you're looking for a middle-eastern/ Moroccan bar and music to move with, I highly recommend this place. I came here for Saturday date night and was disappointed for Laguna Beach hospitality standards. This was not a 5 star restaurant experience for this area. The food is the same price as other restaurants in the same location for less quality and worse ambiance. They aren't new, yet it seemed like they were still figuring out basic elements and their style/theme. The furniture is a hodgepodge of pieces. They have large brewery vats, yet they don't make their own beer. They had Pirates of the Caribbean and NASCAR playing on TV. Then Pirates of the Caribbean playing on both TVs at different points in the movie without sound. It was odd TV choices for a restaurant/lounge/night club. They have a yoga acrobat strap hanging from the ceiling. For most of our meal there was no music playing, but then a random playlist came on with folk music and music from the 80s and 90s. Followed by a DJ coming in playing stagnant beats, followed by another DJ. Maybe they're trying to appeal to everyone? Drinks: I ordered the margarita made with tequila, lime juice, and elderflower. My boyfriend ordered the hole mole. The ingredients are tequila, lime juice, mezcal, mole, and elderflower. When the drinks were delivered to our table we were told they didn't have the elderflower. They said if we didn't enjoy, they'd make us another. My margarita was then just tequila and lime juice, nothing special. The hole mole was not drinkable. It tasted like tequila with taco seasoning and we sent it back. He tried ordering the house beer off the menu, but we were told they don't make it anymore. He then just ordered a regular beer. Food: I ordered the Pomme Purée & Steak medium and asked to sub French fries for the mashed potatoes. The steak came out medium-well to well done. The fries were also overly cooked to light brown and didn't come out hot. My boyfriend ordered the short rib pasta. It was nothing special and the portion was small. Again, not a 5 star experience. Service: this was the one positive of the evening. Our server was attentive and a few other staff members checked on us throughout the night. When we asked for the fans to be turned on, they accommodated. More people arrived at 9:00pm when the DJ started. It seems this place would be better off as just a lounge/night club. read more

Happy hour yesterday we were greeted by the gregarious owner, Fecundo. He graciously welcomed us...showed us around the casually appointed boho-chic seating areas and served us tastes of the house beers. We enjoyed cocktails and the hamburger with fries. Like Tues is Karaoke, Wed is trivia, Thur is 80's, and weekends have a DJ. But I just had their smoked salmon pizza. Damn it was good. Loaded with smoked salmon, onions, tomatoes, and capers. And on this home made fresh pizza that was crisp yet soft. It's served slighly cool, so its like eating a lox bagel, only better. And the chef (Nico) did not hold back on the capers. Accidentally stumbled on this fantastic place after dinner in Laguna. It caught our eye with red carpet as you enter and unique vibe.
