First of all, as you can imagine, the hotel itself is beautiful and has a spectacular view. From the vallet at the front to the hosts & wait staff... Everyone provided excellent customer service. Everything on the brunch menu sounded divine. When the food came out, no one was disappointed... We were all beyond pleased with the taste of our food as well as the service provided. If you want a lovely experience, come to The Loft at the Montage, then frolic on the beach for a perfect day. I made reservations here over a month in advance to celebrate my fiancé's birthday and noted this in the reservation. When we arrived, we were seated at a pretty undesirable location next to the water station with an obstructed view (having a table here is just silly, in my opinion) . When I asked the hostess if we could have a better table, as I noted in our reservation that we were celebrating something special, she said the wait would be another hour and that they actually don't take reservations because if guests come in to be seated they cannot say no...? I thought this was interesting to offer reservations at all, if this is truly the case. Anyways, after I let them know I was unhappy with this situation, they let us know another table had just cleared and that they would move us there. It was inside, but better than looking at other people eat I guess! Service was okay, drinks and food were okay. The presentation was beautiful, but nothing was super memorable about the meal. My favorite part was the chicken. The rotisserie chicken was very juicy and the skin was crispy to perfection...but the salmon left me wanting something more. We had a nice lunch for our party of 6 on a recent Sunday thanks to the great customer service by Mathieu and the rest of the staff at The Loft. Located inside The Montage resort... We had just checked in across the street at Le Petit Pali & wanted to have a late, light lunch prior to our early dinner at Selanne Steak. Our friends had a couple of suites that they had just checked into at The Montage so we wanted to be nearby to hang out. We were seated on one of the balcony dining areas and it was a beautiful, sunny with a cool wind Laguna day. The lady & I opted to split at porchetta sandwich ($32) which comes with pickled red peppers, arugula, caramelized cippolini onion on a ciabatta bun. It was exactly what I needed. It came with perfectly cooked fries. The porchetta itself was tasty and hit the spot... What stood out most to us was the way Mathieu and the staff split our sandwich. They plated each half of the porchetta sandwich with equal portion fries on separate plates. Their foresight to do this was not lost on us. Another couple we were with, also shared their sandwich and they did the same for them. We really appreciate them going above and beyond. Also ordered at our table was grilled tiger prawns ($32) and greek yogurt parfait ($20) with seasonal berries, house-made granola & wildflower honey... Everyone at our table enjoyed our orders. Can't beat the beach front location of this stunning hotel. Unfortunately, the food was just mediocre. Of course had to start off with my caffeine to wake me up. Ordered myself a latte with whole milk. This was absolutely fantastic. Did the job! Then wanted to go with something light and fresh, so went with the ahi tuna tartare to start. Ummm sorry to say but was not a fan. Felt it was a bit bland and not as refreshing as I would have hoped. Typical raw Tuna bites seasoned with tamarind dressing and served with a side of ikura (salmon roe). Paired with thin crispy rice crackers. Wanted to like it but honestly don't see myself ordering again Then decided to go with the crispy zucchini sandwich with side salad. But again not quite what I was expecting. The patty was made of fine julienne zucchini/carrots that were mashed into a patty with two buns. This was seasoned with macadamia nut crème fraîche. Honestly didn't have much flavor to it. Wouldn't recommend this dish either. The food wasn't what I was expecting. But the coffee was excellent and the view was unbeatable. Not too mention very good service. The Loft completely blew us away from start to finish. Even though it's considered their 'upscale-casual' restaurant, the hospitality is top-tier: everyone from the host and servers to the manager stopped by our table to greet us. As for the meal, we loved ordering a variety of small plates to share. The fresh sourdough bread felt like it was baked just for us. The Ahi Tuna Tartare was sensational, while the Whipped Ricotta was a total showstopper. The Seasonal Oysters paired with the chilled prawns were exceptionally clean and sweet. Finally, the tropical sweetness of the mango ice cream proved to be a brilliant pairing to cut right through the rich, dark chocolate of the hot soufflé. For the past 15 years, my family has enjoyed coming together to celebrate special occasions at The Loft. The view is fantastic, and the food USED to be delicious. Sadly, this restaurant has gone through several changes, none of them good. Years ago, they had wonderful waffles with berries (I ordered separately), French toast, crispy potatoes, the banana bread before your meal and other wonderful brunch entrees. A few years ago, they created a brunch that was $100/person. We continued to enjoy the delicious food and views, even though the service had slightly changed. Now, they have changed the menu again! As a vegetarian, I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the brunch offerings. No French toast unless you like bananas (only in bread for me). No waffles. They feature pancakes and avocado toast; I say sarcastically because I may as well stay at home and make them myself!! As a vegetarian, I could care less about the omelets with lobster and other types of meat or Eggs Benedict with ham. THEY RUINED BRUNCH!!! What a fantastic birthday surprise read more

The hosts and servers are very kind and so nice. Servers are always attentive. Our only complaint is how long the food takes. We don't run into this problem except the times we give The Loft a try. I'm talking a year apart and they still have the problem of the food taking incredibly long. Great views and great service! This restaurant has a very nautical vibes just like overall building itself! The hotel gives it very homey vibes. This actually feels more like a home than an actual hotel if you will. It has a cozy vibe to it. The type of vibe you have when you visit a grandparent. The food is good but personally the complimentary banana bread was the star of the show. Perfect moisture and taste- not too sweet. The waiter Johnny was kind and attentive. Overall, the staff were very friendly and polite. The salmon I ordered was good. It wasn't super flavorful it had more of a muted taste however it was very buttery and the skin was crisp . We have been at the Loft Breakfast three times over our stay and the view on the mosaic pool is magnificent. The service is very friendly with Madison doing a fantastic job. Their croissants are freshly made in house and delicious and I don't say that easily as a Frenchman. They start bringing you a banana bread sprinkles with white sugar. The omelette orders have been a hit and miss as they brought us a normal omelette when we ordered an egg white omelette. But they immediately addressed the situation. You can hear the wave of the ocean calmly hitting the beach. It is serendipitously beautiful! read more

Some friends wanted to surprise my wife for her birthday and set up a brunch on Saturday, July 11th. The Montage is a beautiful property and the Loft dining area has a great view of the Pacific Ocean. While the menu is fairly small, there seemed to be enough options for everyone one. We were greeted by multiple members of the staff throughout the resort in a professional and friendly manner. Our group of ten enjoyed everything from a Bagel with smoked salmon, smashed burgers, omelettes, Caesar salad and the magnificent seafood platter. Service was great, Jonnie (apologies if spelled wrong) was on point, professional and attentive. Food was great. We valet parked and I'm not sure if there is another option as it's fairly tight at the entrance. Thank you to the Loft staff and to the Montage for a memorable day. read more

Went here for a classy oceanside brunch What I tried: * Banana French Toast- This is what I ordered, and it was delicious It was fluffy and soft which I loved, and had caramel on top making it pretty sweet. The macadamia nuts weren't too overpowering or nutty which I liked, and the caramelized banana was a great topping. There was some whipped cream too that added to the sweetness * Caesar Salad- I shared this with one other friend as an appetizer. This was sooo good!!! There was a good amount of dressing, but not way too saucy- it was the perfect amount to bring the flavor. The shaved cheese, ricotta salata, was so light, airy and soft making the salad even more enjoyable. Thin crouton bits were on top, and these were also very light and satisfying to eat. * Raspberry Yuzu Mocktail- This was delicious and refreshing! It had raspberry and yuzu obviously, but also lychee, which definitely added to its amazing taste. I was worried the raspberry would make the drink feel medicinal, but that was not the case at all! It was fruity and sweet, and looked gorgeous. What my friends got: * Grains Bowl * Eggs Benedict They both liked their items! I had a bite of the grains bowl, and it was good for what it was. It's a great "healthier" option while still being flavorful and having variety on the plate. Holy cow, I think this is the first fine dining experience I've been to and I was not disappointed. The montage is a beautiful hotel and this restaurant was an amazing addition to it. First of all, the waitress that greeted us at the door was incredibly nice and complimented my friend and I and we got sat down immediately facing the beach and we were met with our server who was so patient with us and explained the menu throughly which was amazing! We ended up taking our server's recommendation and ordering the caviar, NYC steak and the bolognese. In my opinion I think the caviar was okay, it was also my first time having it so maybe I just wasn't a fan of it in general..? However, the steak was phenomenal. I wish I could have 30 if I could, the flavors of this steak just melt all together and I appreciate the addition of the coffee flavoring and the Brie that comes with the steak, everything was just curated so intentionally and you can taste it. The pasta was also so amazing the sauce was cooked perfectly and paired well with the noodles. They also gave me a complimentary dessert because it was my birthday as well! I've been to The Loft at Montage Hotel twice now -- once for lunch with my husband and once solo for dinner -- and overall, it's a beautiful spot with great food. During our first visit for lunch, we had fresh juices, the grain bowl, and a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the terrace was not an option due to ongoing construction as it was very loud, which definitely took away from the experience. We were really hoping to enjoy the outdoor seating and the views. For my second visit, I came alone for dinner. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, they made me wait about 10 minutes to be seated, which felt a bit unnecessary. But once I was seated, the rest of the experience was enjoyable. I ordered the scallops -- there were only three on the plate, but they were actually quite satisfying and tasted great. Definitely more on the light and elegant side. Overall, I do like this place and would come back -- especially once the construction is finished. Sitting on the terrace seems like a big part of the full experience, and I'd love to enjoy it properly next time. read more

Monae greeted and seated us on the patio with a smile. The view was amazing, but it was a bit chilly even with the outdoor heaters. Robert greeted us and kindly adjusted the heater in order to pump some heat closer to the table which I was so thankful for. He discussed cocktail options and then opened the bottle of wine we brought with us so it could decant before dinner. Robert delivered our drinks and graciously moved us inside to a different table, also on the window with an amazing view since I was still cold. Unfortunately with the table move we lost Robert, but we inherited Sean who was beyond fabulous! Sean had a great personality and was very passionate about the food. We learned that he'd been working at this location for five years. He is amazing and his knowledge of the menu was exquisite. After guiding us through our selections he brought out a basket of fresh warm wheat sour dough bread and butter. The bread was some of the best I've ever had. The inside was soft and fluffy and the crust was perfect with a nice crunch. The butter was decorated with lava salt from Hawaii that is flown over. So cool! After pacing myself on the bread which was hard, we enjoyed the pork meatballs, agnolotti, and the radicchio & castoefranco salad with a beet dressing that was delightful. They were all mouth wateringly delicious! For dinner I ordered the crispy fried sole and my husband enjoyed the flankers ranch 28 day dry-aged ribeye. We shared a side of beets with our entrees and devoured it all. Sean did a wonderful time pacing our meals and checking to ensure well loved everything. He truly went above and beyond and stands out as a waiter. We will absolutely return and ask to be seated with him again. The bidders were prompt, my water glass never reached 1/2 before being topped off which I graciously appreciated. After dinner we shared a seasonal desert of toffee butter cake with a side of gingerbread ice cream. It was perfection!!! In a nearly empty restaurant they were late seating us at our reserved time. We had several people who introduced themselves as server assistant but no server. Sommelier did not seem especially interested in a rather rare wine we had brought to enjoy with dinner. Shared plates usually are bigger portions for the table to share; these "for the table" were quite small. Pasta dish was gluey. Duroc pork was fatty but tasty; sauce excellent but mushrooms tasted very sour & substance under them tasted of soap- very off putting & not edible. Cocktails ranging from $26-36 are ridiculously overpriced- I can get a great entree for that price at many nice restaurants in the area. To top it off, my husband accidentally left his credit card there; in looking for it he eventually called & it was at The Loft for a WEEK. No call. Is this the Montage? I returned in 15 mins to take the photo and their restaurant was still completely empty . Now I am sitting at Raya in Ritz Carlton which I would have not discovered if montage wasn't acting that way. Otherwise they do validate, dropping the price to $30 valet. Or you can park on the city street meters, public parking by the hour, or drive up Wesley for neighborhood free parking (pay attention to signs). We were a two people so we only spend $110 for brunch so parking on the street it is! They brought banana bread while we wait for our food. Cocktails are a little small for the price (it is a nice hotel) but the food was delicious. They can do a bit better with plating as the eggs Benedict with potatoes didn't fill the large plate up. Our group went on a Friday afternoon on a beautiful day, and there weren't very many people there so there was no wait and choice of seating anywhere. We sat outside which is a really nice enclosed patio, so the wind is blocked and there is shade. The lunch menu is relatively limited, but everyone really enjoyed their meals. Our group ordered the chicken sandwich, swordfish sandwich, bisque, and burger. I had the burger, and it was cooked and flavored to perfection. Fries were nice and crispy. Loved my meal, I'd definitely go back for it. After your meal, you can take a nice little walk on the grounds and beach. This was a dream to dine at The Loft at The Montage, Laguna Beach. I know that recently they have gained three new phenomenal chefs to their kitchen. I was honored to eat their food. Everything was just wonderful; we stuck with a seafood dinner, starting with King Prawns and finishing with a Branzino dish. The prawns were my absolute favorite dish- even all year for me. The cook, seasoning, and preparation was absolutely perfect.
