My wife booked a spa treatment at the Surf & Sand Resort (Aquaterra) for my birthday so after, we naturally grabbed lunch at Splashes. We were seated out in their patio overlooking the ocean which was beautiful! It was during the humidity wave, but the ocean breeze helped keep that at bay. William was our wait and he was great. Super friendly and engaging right from the beginning. We knew we were going to have a good visit as soon as he stopped in. We ended up essentially ordering based on his recommendations and he nailed it. Ordered the shrimp Cesar, tuna crudo, and chicken sandwich and all were very good. The food was fresh, ingredients were locally sourced, portions weren't overdone. Our expectations were definitely exceeded. The tuna crudo though, that was my jam. It was my birthday so they treated me/us with a tiramisu which was also on point. I meant to take more photos but got so caught up in the food, I only got the view and dessert! It was a great end to an already incredible day.

Staff was great and accommodating! Originally we had a table where the sun was blaring hot and it was just uncomfortable. They were able to move us to a better place even though they were extremely busy.

Saw this spot making SPLASHES all over social media, and it was definitely worth checking out in my book! Tucked in @surfandsandlaguna , @splashes_restaurant offers beautiful, ocean-side views of Laguna Beach, and an extensive menu of modern, elevated Californian dining with quite a bit of seafood inspiration. I was pleasantly surprised by how complex and well crafted their cocktails were, with my favorite being the gorgeous Blue Reef. In terms of food, you definitely can't go wrong with anything that you order, but my favorites were the lobster bisque and bluefin tuna crudo, which featured a very unique, Thai curry-inspired sauce that surprisingly paired perfectly with the fish. Highly recommend checking this spot for a special occasion/date, especially for their beautiful beachfront views, impeccable service, and elevated Californian + ocean-inspired dishes and drinks!

Gorgeous restaurant with the most stunning views. The food is also incredible. We tried the risotto, egg burrito and chicken sandwich. Everything was super fresh and tasty. Prices are on the higher end but it's worth every penny. Service can be a bit slower when they're busy but overall they were friendly. Highly recommend this gorgeous spot. Make sure to dress up for pictures as well!

Splashes will always get 5 Stars bc of the VIEW!! Love listening and watching the crashing waves!!!! Although they said they haven't had a beach all summer long!!! Very high tide!! Maybe beach erosion :( the food was awesome! The rolls were amazing! The drinks were good. The lobster bisque was on point!!!

This is the perfect restaurant to have a fancy meal or a girl's brunch! Whenever I come across any restaurant known for its views or ambiance, the food is often subpar so I didn't have high expectations coming here. But wow did that change my mind!! The margherita flatbread was a table favorite and approved by my Italian friends. We also loved the alaskan halibut tacos & crispy chicken sandwich. The portions were big enough to share or eat individually so it felt worth the price. As a party of 8, we honestly had a great experience with our food, service, and waterfront seating. The staff were not quick to rush us while we celebrated my friend's birthday with a cake and pictures, so that was very much appreciated. I would absolutely come back for my birthday or any special occasion! Some things to note: - $10 valet parking with validation but there's plenty of metered street parking out front - 20% service charge automatically added to the bill

This restaurant has gone down hill since the remodel. The head chef was elevated to a new position and the food has suffered. The service is still top tier but the food is not. On top of that they've removed the olive tapenade and fresh bread they offered. When I asked there was new manager, a teenage boy In a suit named Julien. He said it was to elevate the restaurant. That may be the dumbest thing I've heard. The best restaurants in the world still do a bread service. This use to be a favorite spots for my wife and I but I just can't recommend it anymore.

This place is a must for lunch on a nice beach day. I don't think we've had a dish we've been disappointed in. We done here once a month for lunch (sometimes more) and getting a reservation is easy and parking is easier. Great service, fantastic view, and wonderful food. The plating and presentation are tops. Side note, they have great iced tea.

Came here for lunch and absolutely recommend Splashes. The restaurant itself is on a lower level near the pool, but the ambiance is fresh and crisp, the service is solid, and the food was fantastic. I has the king salmon as well as the fish tacos and it was delicious. Ask for a spot next to the window for the best glass window ocean views.

I booked this restaurant for an early Mother's Day celebration, and my mother was very pleased. First, the views this restaurant sits right by the coast beachfront and has amazing views. Secondly, the service and wait staff is impeccable. We received great recommendations, attentiveness, professionalism, and hospitality. We never had to ask for anything because our needs were anticipated. Lastly, the food, we ordered several different things. The lobster bisque, Parkhouse rolls, octopus, the special of the day, which was tuna Hamachi. We also ordered the scallops, mushrooms, green beans, mashed potatoes and sea bass. The items that stood out the most were the lobster bisque. the Parkhouse rolls, the Seabass, the scallops and the Hamachi tuna. I was taken back that the octopus was fried and it was tough and had an interesting flavor. I'm used to octopus legs being grilled and tender, so I was quite disappointed with that. We also ordered a couple of cocktails that we weren't thrilled about. The flavors didn't work well together in the drink, but I did like how the glasses were ice cold I just wish the cocktails were more impressive. I feel like that's the gift and the curse. When you have a restaurant that is oceanfront. Typically oceanfront restaurants their food isn't that great because it doesn't have to be because of the ambience. The only place I've ever been where they had the oceanfront location and the food was amazing was Nobu Malibu specifically. I wouldn't mind coming back here for some light bites like I mentioned the lobster bisque and the rolls were tasty. Everything else was good, but not great for the price point.

We wanted to try the newly renovated Splashes Restaurant for ourselves. I'm giving it three stars because the ambiance is five stars, but the food is really one star. Our waiter was excellent and deserves five stars, while the manager gets one star, so I guess it averages out to three stars. I didn't read the reviews beforehand because I wanted to judge it for myself, but I agree with many other Yelp reviewers that the food just isn't very good. After lunch, I realized for myself that the food wasn't that good, and several other Yelpers mentioned that dinner was mediocre as well. This feels more like a place to come for a drink, relax, and enjoy the beach view. The reason I'm giving the manager one star is because I wanted to host my birthday dinner there - this was before lunch was served and reading reviews. The waiter suggested I request Table 33, which is in a beautiful area, but when I spoke with the manager, he refused to reserve it even though my dinner is still two months away. I don't know how they do business, but this doesn't seem like the right way to handle a customer request. If I come back--and I probably will, because the setting is beautiful--I'd likely order a small hors d'oeuvre and a drink.

With recommendation from two friends (one being a local), we ended up getting a spot for late breakfast. All other times were not available. The day of visit, severe storm warning was issued so all the doors were closed, all the umbrellas were folded and getting ready for the storm. The views were amazing. Almost right over the water. The name Splashes definitely fits it. For breakfast, menu was simple and nothing really stood out. Short rib skillet anyone? I was expecting to pay more for the views but wasn't too exuberant . My drink wasn't good. Definitely needed a money back. Felt like it was diluted. Presentation was C rated and also glass had some juice that was spilled. Should have been wiped before serving. The restaurant of this caliber and price on high side, definitely needed an improvement. When one goes wrong, all else will look not as good as you had hope for. My lox with everything bagel was good. Service was ok. For the views, I will be back.

MIMOSA DEL MAR
Daniel C.

After an early sunrise beach day, we headed to Splashes for breakfast. I made a reservation for 7am the day before and we ended up being the first guests of the morning, which got us an AMAZING table right by the ocean. We started with mimosas and a green smoothie, both really good. For breakfast, we ordered the braised short rib and eggs and the smoked salmon/lox with a bagel. Everything tasted fresh, well prepared, and honestly the entire breakfast menu looked good. The service deserves a mention too. Our host and the manager were both extremely welcoming, and paired with that oceanfront view, it's a really nice way to start the morning. As much as I wanted to give Splashes five stars, the food didn't quite have that wow factor for me. Nothing was wrong with it, it was all genuinely good; I just reserve five stars for the places that give me something memorable enough that I NEED to come back for it. The view was easily 5 stars. 8.5/10

The interior of the restaurant on the same level of the host stand is wheelchair accessible however I believe certain exterior patio seating does require some stairs that do not make it as wheelchair friendly unfortunately

What floor/area and table has the best view?

There is a top dining area with limited seating right in front of the window with beach view, then there are tables behind it (with blocked view of beach because others would be sitting in front of you). We sat down stairs at the bar, there are…

Are there vegan options?

I am a vegetarian and they do have vegan and vegetarian options. You can also substitute meat items for veggie options! They try to accommodate everybody's needs for sure!

Does anyone know if they host smallish wedding receptions for like 50 folks ( 2021 summer )?

Truthfully , I'm not sure if they are taking reservations. I'd highly suggest you speak to the GM who can further assist you with your event . I think the location would be perfect for a small wedding. The view is so picturesque & amazing..…

Open to public or only hotel guest?

This is open to the public, however reservations are required. The entrance is in the hotel. You can use the hotel parking.

Can you make a reservation even if you are not staying at the hotel? Their website is confusing me as I've seen some reviews saying some people just walked in (didn't stay at hotel either)

Yes- you can make reservations through Open Table

Are there ocean views and patio seating?

Yes! Amazing ocean views and patio seating outside.

Is there a kids menu?

Yes.

Do they have a parking lot or is parking tough?

It's a free valet parking at the hotel entrance.

No they do not have a private dining area, as the restaurant is not that large. They do arrange multiple tables together to accommodate large groups.

But after that, our server (the owner we were told) left, and another server introduced himself. The new server was inattentive. He sat chatting with the other servers at the bar, leaving empty glasses and empty plates on the table. We had to flag him to come back to fill water. We had to put our empty glasses and trash on a side table. It was weird. The bolognese had hardly any meat in it. It was mostly tomato and onion. I've been to Argentina. Meat is a staple. Also weird. We ordered dessert and after waiting for 5-10 minutes, the server came back and told us they were missing crucial ingredients to make it. The bartender was fine but it did take 10 mins for him to even acknowledge us even though it was pretty empty on a Monday night. Labor day monday. We came in initially wanting to play pool. We put our name on the chalk board and just waited around. We discovered a lot about the people who were apparently regulars at this bar. We learned by asking around that there is a group of like 8-12 who basically are at the bar every day if not every other day. Finally it's our turn to play and we're standing by the table. An older man who is apparently a regular made a comment to his friends about my friends body. He said "she looks like a sasquatch" so she turned around and said "What are you guys talking about?" They froze and one man quickly made some comment about his marijuana company? Which yes, sasquatch marijuana strains exist, I'm aware, but these idiots made the comment right behind her, so she heard them very clearly. She shakes it off and tells me. we then play our game. After I go to the guy and ask him if he made a comment about my friends body. He immediately gets defensive and said "oh we were talking about my hairy legs." Hairy legs? We didn't even hear anything about that, just the sasquatch comment. Okay so now I know you called my friend a sasquatch with hairy legs. So you made two comments and just told us about one we didn't even know of! I tell him I don't believe him and try to explain the above. He continuously cuts me off, calls me an idiot. Says I'm aggressive. Meanwhile he's the one raising his voice! His buddy next to him repeats "you don't wanna mess with him, he's a local." Okay... so are we? What an odd thing to say. Only says he's done with the convo when security comes over. I guess he's embarrassed to yell at women when other men around. Just a bunch of over 50 yr old dudes making comment about 21 yr olds bodies and yelling at them. I walked told security I'd like to talk to him and explained the situation. He apologized and said their behavior was not ok and to let him know when we're there next so he can keep an eye out. I'm like thanks but we won't be back, especially if this is the clientele the business chooses to keep around. Honestly, the way he was speaking about them makes me think this is something that has happened before with this group. Them not being kicked out is kind of crazy to me. But whatever, we just won't be back. Anyway, if you're there to chill and listen to good music with your people, it's a nice vibe. Place is decorated cool. If you're there to play pool or meet new people, literally do not bother. The same people camp that pool table and bar for hours. It's quite sad. And they love to make rude comments and security won't handle it! Or maybe they did. I don't know, we left before seeing what he did but when I spoke to the security he was telling me to come back and saying he would watch them if we did. So obviously they're sticking around. But yeah, there are better places in costa mesa, santa ana, or tustin. We won't be back.
