When I was a kid, my parents used to bring my brother and I here on a regular basis mostly Sunday afternoons after church. I have the fondest memories of eating here with my family not just because we had a silly nickname for the place (Spank Me's!), but also because I remember how fantastic the food was. I probably honestly haven't been here in 20 years and I had a friend invite me to dinner the other day and brought up Spanky's as an option. I immediately jumped at the chance, as I have been wanting to go back ever since they rebuilt the restaurant after the old one burned down. When we arrived we had to park in the old parking lot because there were so many cars. It was Wednesday night and we could not figure out what was going on. When we walked in we thought we would have to wait but we got a table right away and realized that it was high school graduation which is why there were so many people there. Once we sat down I didn't even look at the menu I was so hungry I had already gone online and decided what I wanted. My friend took a few minutes to decide and then we sat there for a good five minutes before anybody came to our table. I'm not sure if the girl that came to our table was supposed to be our waitress or not (she made it seem like someone else was supposed to pick up the table) but once she greeted us and took our order she did a decent job. We ordered the Super Duper with a few modifications, and they got all of them right. When the pizza hit the table and I started to eat it I was hit with the realization that it tasted just as good as it did 20 years ago. Now that's saying a lot considering that most restaurants find success expand quickly and then start to scrimp on Quality to the detriment of the customers and eventually the business. That is not the case with this pizza place. I can hardly believe that I haven't been back here sooner. Everything was absolutely delicious the ice tea was perfect it was a fantastic meal the only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the service was a little bit slow but that could've been a direct correlation to the amount of people that were in there after graduation and maybe the restaurant wasn't prepared for that kind of rush on Wednesday night. By the way they do a special on Wednesday night that I believe is 10.99 for a large one topping pizza. That's a great deal especially considering how fantastic their pizza is. I love this place and I will definitely not wait 20 more years to come back! read more

I like eating here its a really good family spot and they always have great deals. Order to go or pick up and you'll be happy. I've had the pizza, pasta, and salad all really good. They even have a full bar so now every-time me and my friends pick up our togo order we take shots of fireball and i think its only a few bucks! Old favorite great food great price! Found Spanky's on a whim driving down the highway. Wow! The Pizza is so delicious and what a treat it was for us. Our server, Margarita, was wonderful. Came in for the First time with my wife. We ordered chicken fingers and breadsticks as appetizers. The server ,Katherine, let us know the special for Wednesday which was a large one topping pizza for $10.99. They accidentally brought the pizza out first before the appetizers but Katherine kindly apologized and she even sent the manager ,Steve, to talk to us. Steve handled it very well and apologized. He even brought out the stuff to go and didn't charge us without me asking for it. The pizza was GREAT!!!! Spankeys service is horrible! The only pro was that we were seated quickly. The table was still dirty from the last group of people, we waited and waited took the kids to the bathroom and still waited so after a good amount waiting we decided to leave. Been to the old spankys a few years back but haven't been since they opened the new location. Very impressed! Our server, Danelle was SO friendly and her recommendations for the food were ON POINT. A big smile like hers makes restaurant experiences the best. It lets you know they love their job and so should we. And we do. We LOVE spankys. I have lived in SE Houston for many years. I was around when Spanky's first opened. Never went until 2008. I decided, "Hey, they've been around a long time. They must be doing something right." Well, I knew right away it was the pizza! It immediately became my favorite pizza. The bonus was the great service we received then and every time we have been back. Anyway, I'm writing this because I was there with family this past Sunday, and the pizza was not the same. Family members felt the same. The sauce did not have the unique, slightly sweet flavor that we love. Worse, the next day, the leftovers seemed to have even less flavor. Now, I've heard that we lose some of our taste buds as we get older. That's definitely me, i.e., older, but does anyone else feel the same way? Spanky's is one of my favorite pizza places in Houston. Quality pizza and fair prices. Other places around town that I've tried have much higher prices for basic pizzas while the quality is at best mediocre (at least in my opinion). Ordered the Super Duper Pizza... It lived up to its name. The crust in the center of the pizza was a little flimsy and unable to support the massive layer of toppings.
