It's been awhile since I have been here, pre-Covid. Everything seems to be the same not many changes. Buffet food line is ok and changes daily I believe. A bit steep for 2 people I would say. Service was good, casual atmosphere with many diners coming in from nearby companies for lunch. Good tea and great hot , just made garlic bread. What I love the most about Pizzini's is supporting a small family owned business that has been in business 40+ years. It takes us supporting small businesses to keep them going, so give this place a try. Small little Italian eatery with a large menu. You'll consistently receive personal & friendly service, a large cup/serving of drink, and a freshly prepared meal. They have a salad bar and for lunch a buffet. I really wanted to like this place but there's nothing welcoming, friendly or even food to be desired. It's SO dark when you walk and you don't even realize the hostess/waitress is standing to your left because it's so bright outside. There's NO ONE eating there but you. Saw 2 Togo orders picked up. Room temp had me sweating the entire time. They only offered tap water so I asked if there was any bottled water/sparkling water I could buy. She made sure to let me know that I purchased the LAST bottle on site. She repeated it 3 times. Food came within 6 min.. clearly not made to order. I felt rushed and they just wanted to sit in silence in a dark, morbid building alone. Meat sauce was full of onions AND CELERY so watery. My entire plate was like meat soup! Also had to get up and go ask for Togo boxes and a bag! They have a problem slamming the hand written check down mid dinner but when it's time to pay they vanish. Worst $60 ever! read more

I was in a mood for pizza last week. After looking at some of the latest reviews, I was thinking about giving it a try. I went there and asked for something a bit out of the ordinary. I asked for a pizza without cheese. Imagine that. The waitress said they had never made pizza without cheese. But they gave it a go. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be possibly the best pizza I've ever had. The crust was absolutely perfect. It was nice and crisp and never drooped. The only reason I only gave a four star rating is because of the fact that an aging dining room will get noticed. It may be time to do a little updating. read more

I stopped in Pizzini's today looking for soup and a home cooked meal. I was unsure of what I wanted and decided to put some things together from the menu. The cashier Samantha was very patient and suggested different ideas for me. She was very kind and never rushed me even though she was ringing up other customers as well. Finally, we chose lasagna, garlic bread and a salad which all came together. However, that wasn't all, I also chose shrimp Alfredo and added chicken to it and it also came with a salad. I was nervous as to what my total was and Samantha told me it would be $31.28. Yet, I wasn't done ordering, I had to get their famous chicken noodle soup. The soup is amazing and everything on their menu is made from scratch. So that my total wouldn't go up anymore Samantha suggested taking one of the salads that comes with my meal and turning it into soup instead and I would get both with no extra charge. That's exactly what happened and I was so excited. Samantha was very helpful and their prices are very inexpensive. The manager Michelle came over as well and she was very kind and helpful too. She had great conversation and made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. The atmosphere was very pleasant, all my food was amazing and I look forward to returning to Pizzini's! Took my niece here yesterday for our very first time, and I must say the food was really good, fresh and authentic. Pretty empty on a weeknight so good and prompt service. Looks old on the outside but the inside is nice and currently decorated for the season! The food was pretty good. As an appetizer, I had the pesto bread which I would order again. The house red wine was good ( not too dry or too sweet.) The bakes pesto pasta was a bit too cheesy for my taste but the pesto itself was delicious. Would go back and try another dish. My friend had the shrimp Alfredo and loved it. Came here for a coworkers birthday, she's looked it up on Google and said here. Dining options in this area are pretty slim pickings, and I really wasn't expecting much... I had chicken cutlet parmesan, and I have no complaints. Everything was cooked wonderfully and there wasn't the taste of sugar inside of the sauce. It doesn't look like much but this was probably one of the better Italian restaurants I've been to in Texas, and I'm from Long island where there's an Italian restaurants on every corner. Good neighborhood Italian place. Very versatile, can turn out good steaks and pizzas as well as good Italian fare. Also has an AYCE Italian food Buffet at Noon for under 10 dollars. There are a pair of very entertaining murals, one depicting vintage movie characters, the other cartoon characters and puppets. I might be being a bit stingy to only dole out 3 stars, but a couple of times lately the food has been only average. (Once the buffet, once simple spaghetti and meatballs with mushrooms ((normally very good here)) There is more business than parking so you might have to get creative and park across the street read more

Pizzinis is a family favorite for my family. We live almost 30 minutes away but we still make the drive all the way out there to indulge in their spectacular steaks and their great italian dishes. I had the spaghetti and meatballs which was nothing too special, but overall good. The portion size was pretty large and for the price of 5.95, no complaints here. Also the garlic bread is pretty spectacular and is FRESH. The family all had steaks which are also affordable as well. Of course being a fatboy I took some meat off their plates. The prime rib was very tender and well cooked and the soup was a homerun. Pizzinis is a family favorite for good reason, they have damn good food and you don't have to waste a paycheck to eat here. My only complaint is that they're not open on weekends so definitely remember to check it out during the weekdays. read more

I come here for the Seafood Lasagna, which tastes better from the Lunch Buffet 11am-1pm cause it's made fresh for the buffet, but comes frozen and then heated in an oven when ordered. Their Key Lime Pie is the best I've ever tasted and I never liked Key Lime Pie before I tried theirs. The building looks horrid from the outside, but is amazing on the inside with the cool art. Pretty good pizza 3.5 stars. Its hard to tell which building this place is in weather there building or barber next door. Cheesy murals on the walls. Buffet for lunch 11-2 looked OK. If ever in Houston again I will return. Seems to be a local place. read more

Oh my goodness! I've been missing something really, really great here! Best waitress I've ever seen. Good old fashioned Italian sausage sandwich...the real kind, not the chain restaurant junk. This is good eating. And the lasagna is fantastic! I plan on trying the buffet soon. And the best thing is that I work right across the street, so I have easy access. The only hold back? It's closed Saturdays and Sundays and buffet is only at lunchtime. But the soup and salad bar is all the time. Freshest salad around. And they just redid the parking lot...no pot holes and nice and smooth. Yes I would go back, over and over. I love this place! read more

LOVE this place and have been going there since I was a kid. Waitstaff are quick and very friendly. Every time I go I see something new in the awesome murals painted on the walls. Food is great. My favorite is the pesto pasta with vegetables and shrimp. It's enough to have lunch and take some to go for dinner or lunch the next day and is VERY GOOD! The only thing I've tried that I'm not crazy about is the white gravy for the potatoes/chicken fried steak they sometimes have on the lunch buffet. It's very thick and you can specifically taste the flour in it. Everything else I've tried is awesome! Overall fantastic place and I would highly recommend it. read more

I love to support local restaurants, so I'm a little sad to have to give this one two stars. I'm disappointed. This family-owned place has the potential to be great if they would just address a few minor things and put more TLC in it. First, cleanliness and atmosphere is extremely important at a restaurant. This place is old and really needs to be freshened up, especially the restrooms. It kinda makes you wonder what the kitchen is like. It has an interesting mural of Americana cartoons & icons, but some lighting would be nice, it's kind of dark and depressing and about 25 years worth of cigarette smoke coats everything. A lot of business people go here during the week and I bet even more would come if they would pay attention to some of these details. Second, the weekday lunch buffet is only a good idea if the food is worth eating. The seafood lasagna smelled strange and tasted worse. The salad bar is underwhelming, you'd be better off opening a bagged salad from Kroger and pouring some Kraft dressing on there. I'm pretty sure just about everything else was reheated from frozen, or at least tasted like it. They have a ton of options on the menu from pizza & pasta to chicken fried steak, which could be part of the problem. They should really find what they're good at, what customers really love and simplify it! or at least find a niche. Many times, offering a few 5 star dishes is better than offering 1,000 mediocre ones. Better yet, instead of a buffet of mediocre food, why not have a daily special featuring something really great? One that perhaps comes with a single fresh salad? and soft fluffy garlic bread, instead of the rock hard stuff that is going to cause someone to lose an eye when the lethal crumbs go flying? I haven't tried their steaks or catfish, but if people enjoy them so much maybe they should re-think their focus? Steak and Italian can definitely work together, but as of right now this place is a hot mess. The other food I've had isn't necessarily bad, but could be SOO much better with a little attention to detail (fresh, fresh, fresh) It primarily survives on dedicated local clientel and mostly because it's the *only* place to find anything remotely Italian within 20-30 miles. I don't mean to put them down, but it's frustrating to see that they have an opportunity to have an amazing Italian restaurant in the area... but it's just not working for me. Few independently owned restaurant survived over 40 years in the city of Houston. When I want Italian food nothing else will do except making a trip here. The lasagna is superb. But all time favorite with community members is the Beef Boy. Perhaps one of the highlights to planning our recent 35 High School Reunion, was having the Planning Team meet here. I had chicken piccata that was completely flavorless and the chicken was very dry. My friend had veal parmigiana which consisted of a piece of veal covered in mozzarella cheese with a side of spaghetti topped with a dollop of spaghetti sauce. Save your time and money. I haven't actually eaten here but I have picked up many pizzas for my work. The parking lot is really small and full of potholes for the numbers of customers they have. However the worst part is that they are on a curve if the road and block the view of oncoming traffic by parking their pickups by their sign. Very dangerous when leaving. read more

I agree with Charlotte's review. This place truly embodies the "just like at home" feel. Service was tremendous. I don't mean this in a technical sense, I mean it in a practical sense: Elaine clearly made you feel both welcomed and appreciated. She mused when I asked for a "full carafe" of the house red: are you SURE you want a full one? Would you like me join you? A quip delivered perfectly. And THAT describes why I loved this place. The food? Very good. Classic Southern Italian. Fancy? No. This place has been around for quite some time. The reasonable prices prove that you are paying for good food and outstanding service. Why pay for extra decoration? I travel a lot for work and these guys are a most welcomed respite from the daily grind of bland chain restaurants. Give them a try. Solid delivery of Italian classics (and some others) in a charming, quirky, old-ish, family-owned setting. The menu is a little distracted, with all the Italian staples, but also a bunch of other stuff like catfish, chicken fried steak, and fried coconut shrimp (Note: they no longer serve the Texas t-bone). Still there are plenty of vegetarian options, and I've never heard anyone complain about their food here. On this particular visit, the boss got the blackened catfish with vegetables - a stunning presentation, fajita-style sizzling on a platter, and he described it as "on point." My other coworker got the Grilled Chicken Mediterranean, which he has ordered so many times that the waitress didn't even let him speak before she asked "Mediterranean?" I got the eggplant parmigiana (my Italian standard), and it was delicious. It was gigantic (think the size of a healthy chicken-fried steak), with distinct eggplant layers and a hearty eggplant flavor. Not drenched under too much tomato sauce, not drowned in cheese, not weighed down with breading - just right. The marinara is a wholesome, classic interpretation. Nothing too fancy here, just good, clean, straight-up Italian food. The iced tea is unexceptional, except for being served in an enormous glass that could double as a bucket in a pinch. You'll need to ask for lemon if you want it. We all cleaned our plates. The atmosphere is homey and quiet - they play country music in the background, which is a Texan touch landing somewhere in between obnoxious and adorable. It's definitely a step above cheap diner furnishings - major bonus points for the great old-timey cash register adorning the front counter and the quirky, charming murals. Very limited parking, so come early or be prepared to get a little creative, but they're very accommodating of groups - I came here with a gathering of 10+ people once, and they were generous and speedy with our giant, unwieldy group in their small-ish space. Service was great - friendly, attentive, and clearly taking care of their regulars. This feels and operates like a small, family-owned restaurant. Good stuff. Keep up the good work, guys. read more
