The Italian pizza
Binaca S.

I got the gluten free Italian pizza and it was the best I've had in a while! I'm so excited to come again. The food came fast even though they were busy

The lasagna was right on point love love love had the rest for lunch next. I called in the order. The service was great ready as soon as I walked in called in order! the ambience was kicking everybody look happy eating.

Lunch special pizza with pepperoni, sausage, bacon
Alan S.

A few days ago, I drove by Spanky's on my way to a litter clean-up, and it stuck in my mind. So when someone suggested meeting for lunch on the East End, I figured it was the perfect chance to give it a try. I went for their $9 lunch special and chose a pizza topped with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. The portion was a great size--not too big but definitely satisfying. It reminded me a bit of the frozen pizzas I used to eat as a kid in terms of size, but the quality and taste were on another level. The toppings were flavorful, and the crust had just the right crunch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure my water glass stayed full, which I really appreciated. If you're in the East End looking for a casual lunch spot with a great deal and friendly service, Spanky's is worth a visit!

Let me start by saying this is my favorite Pizza place in Houston and it's not even close! Pizza always comes out delivious and piping hot. Not too many places do a deep dish pizza well and Spanky's hits the nail on the head. Things can get a little tricky with the service in particular the seating hostesses. There has been more than once I have waited while being completely forgotten in the queue for seating. I have had good experiences with the servers once seated. Also they could turn the temp up just a lil' bit its usually an ice box in there so bring a sweater along.

I order from here a lot more than I'd like to admit ha. Pizza and food is always consistent I'm from NYC and this is one of my favorite pizza spots in Houston for sure !

Bland no taste cheese bread

Horrible. No taste, soggy food, under cooked dough. Definitely don't recommend, nor have any want to try this place again. 1 star is generous

A Houston marquee. Pizza is great and I've been eating here since the 70's. Tricky location but the food makes it worth the navigation.

My pizza was ready on time and the service was great although our interaction was brief. It's a thin crust pizza and the edges were just perfect out of the oven. The chimichurri worked perfectly with the smokiness of the chicken. The cheese was so fresh and the sauce flavorful. Next time I'll order it well done because the toppings made it a bit soggy in the middle the next day. I can't wait to try more on the menu! The space is small and has patio seating. I would consider it more for takeout or a quick lunch.

Heard really good reviews from social media so decided to give them a try. Starting off parking is…read morea little tricky as the area is small along with the building. Walking in there a couple seats to the right, menu is on the wall to the left, and order & pickup counter in the center. I ordered the Coffee Cowboy pizza and a full order of Dad's Bruschetta (Dad OG's). It took quite a while for the food to be ready, as it was a Friday, and was just blowing up on social media. So I recommend ordering online beforehand, I also noticed while waiting for my food to be ready, that the staff taking orders were bias towards certain customers but that could just be me. There are more tables and seating outside in front with napkins rolls available which I sat at when the food ready. The Coffee Cowboy pizza had coffee-crusted hereford flank steak, smoked onion bianco sauce, mozz, white cheddar, caramelized onion, smoked salt, and truffled arugula. But sadly wasn't to my liking along with the Dad's Bruschetta. Overall, food wasn't really to my liking, and recommend ordering ahead of time.

What an excellent find. This place may have some of the best pizza I've ever tasted in America…read more The crust was perfection. The pepperoni with the hot honey was perfection. We also had the Dream Catcher, and, boy oh boy, was it delicious. The cheese was incredible. The pizza flavors just seem to live in harmony. The restaurant was so clean and neat. The dough was very tough and just a bit thin for me personally. Our jaws were exhausted after all of the chewing necessary. I wish the flavor was kicked up a few notches (or a bunch of notches actually..) because it had good flavor, however it just didn't shine through. As I walked in the service wasn't horrible, however it felt as if I was an inconvenience to the worker who assisted me. Everyone gets busy and everyone has bad days so I wouldn't say that will be everyone's experience, however for mediocre pizza the service has to be exceptional and it just isn't... We did not eat inside the restaurant, instead we ordered take out, however there's a nice outside seating area that seems pretty pleasant. Inside was also nice and clean with good ambiance. Overall, I would not recommend The Gypsy Poet to my loved ones and friends. I would possibly return and give it another shot because truly the underlying flavor was good but not strong enough for me. I have had great pizza before and this just isn't it unfortunately.
