Star pizza... oh star pizza... the things I've heard about you I've always had an itch to go against the mainstream when it comes to pizza. Something about the small ovens, niche following, and secret aura of small joints always attracted me. But not Star. Yall brought me back to my upbringing in the northeast. We got the starburst pizza and loved every bite, every smell, and every glance of this beautiful pie. Getting takeout? Go star. Getting pickup? Go star. Enough said. Cheers to y'all, Bob B.

Thin crust pepperoni and meatballs and thin crust Canadian bacon, pineapple and fresh jalapeños. Yum!

My husband and I were in Houston and had gotten pizza delivered right to our hotel room from here so we wanted to go try it in person. First off, it's a very cool old house and inside has so much character. We absolutely loved it. The waitress was amazing, her name was Kayla. We loved the thin crust pizza and cheesy bread. Let's not forget to mention the yummy marinara that comes with the cheesy bread. Yum, chefs kiss! We loved everything about this place and plan on going back every time we are in Houston! Thanks Star Pizza for a great experience during a very difficult time in our personal lives. It made being in Houston for medical treatments way better!

6 adults and 2 toddlers enjoyed some amazing pie and pasta and a few libations. My wife and I shared a pint draft of St. Arnold's Watermelon Cider....never tried this before and it was really good. My wife had the pasta salad and a side of fried baby potatoes. I enjoyed the meat lasagna with marinara sauce. We ordered a baked goat cheese appetizer with french bread for the table, it was enjoyed by all. The service by Norma was over the top. I wore my Star Pizza t shirt and they kept trying to put me to work....just sayin'....we'll be back for more of these goodies.

After a few retail therapy sessions at the Astros and Texans team stores, I decided to satisfy my craving for pizza here at Star. I was determined to try their take on the Chicago style deep dish. I don't really care if the pie is authentic or not. Star gets an A for effort on what I consider the best pizza in the universe. Aside from being hot, fresh, and deliciously cheesy, the pizza, which I got in the six-inch personal pan style, didn't cost an arm and a leg. Equally good was the dinner salad I paired it with. A supposedly 30-minute wait -- it turned out to be lesser than that -- flew by thanks to the salad. I've known about Star for quite a long while. When I used to commute to Greenway Plaza for work, I usually passed through Upper Kirby. However, I've never set foot inside the eatery until today. Star resides in an old timey building on Norfolk. When you enter, it's easy to assume that the place is small, but diners are led to a decent sized dining room towards the back. Along the way, I was greeted by the sight of pinball machines and a display vinyl records. My decision to come here was instantly justified. Gabby was my waitress, and she did superb. As I left, she told me about the Friday pizza buffet. I said that I'll have to check it out after Easter because I gave up meat for Lent. And there were a lot of meat filled pizzas at the buffet. Overall, Star in Upper Kirby is a hidden gem worth discovering, a busy Richmond Avenue notwithstanding.

My husband, myself, and our 17-year old son, did a little shopping at Cactus Music then headed here for some delicious pizza. I'm so glad we came! We enjoyed the eclectic vibes, great service, and delicious pizza! We started with the giant meatballs for our appetizer and then enjoyed the Chicago-style deep dish pizzas we ordered. Our son had a personal margherita pizza and my husband and I shared a meat-lovers with onion pizza. Yummmm! The best part was the sauce. Great place!

This place looks like it's a hole in the wall that's been around forever. Could use a little bit of a make over and there was a like a musty scent or smell inside that was odd but the staff was friendly! The food was yummy! They had a lunch option that was a small salad and small specialty pizza for like $12 which was a solid deal! I got the chicken Alfredo it was yummy! My friend got the starburst and loved it!

So good! 1st time here and it was really good. Caesar salad with baked rolls and Alfredo sauce. Ate it all. Those garlic rolls were great! Got a deep dish Marilyn with pineapple and jalapeños added. Great pizza. One of the best pizzas in a long time. Prices great service great and the food was excellent! Look forward to coming back!

As one of the city's most well known pizzerias, it's not hard to see the appeal of Star Pizza since they seemingly have it all: excellent service, a myriad of pizza styles and toppings, a charming venue, and the support of the local Upper Kirby community and beyond. This location has some of the worst traffic in the area, which can be standstill traffic during daytime hours. Somehow Star has still managed to fill their lots with cars galore every night, while many adjacent lots sit empty. I tend to go for the street parking, while simultaneously fending off the other cars double parking for takeout. While the "New York" pie doesn't remind me of anything legit in NYC, I still give them an A for effort. The sauce-cheese ratio is not the same and the crust doesn't have the same kind of bend that I'd find back home. The Chicago style is a slight notch above but isn't the same animal as something I'd find in the Windy City. However I still enjoy the pizza for it's heartiness, numerous toppings, and love the variety. They are consistent for the most part despite the occasional salt bomb. The pastas aren't going to outshine the pizza and are generally not as exciting. They're on the simpler side with items like butter and oil pasta, pesto, alfredo, and marinara and meatball. They tout the homemade lasagna as a must eat item but the salt bomb also applies here as well. I have to give it up to the staff. They're busy whenever I interact with them, but somehow the food is always out on time and they manage to keep the people fed while doing it with a smile. This, along with their friendly pricing, goes a long way in making the experience an ideal one.

Small Chicago style deep dish pizza! Yum! (Starburst)

What a value for this small deep dish "Starburst" pizza!! Beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, & veggies. My husband and I had a huge piece of it, and this was our leftovers! We love Star Pizza. Service is always right on, and a great porch/patio adds such nice ambiance on a beautiful evening like last night in Houston! We've been fans for many years, and they are still just as consistent as ever!

Large Hank's Pizza (deep dish) and Pizza Bread
    Martina C.

We ordered their Hank's pizza as a large deep dish, and a side of pizza rolls. After tip and third party delivery fees, it was $50. At the end of the day that's the new normal, and since we didn't finish it, it counts as two meals. It tasted very good! We randomly craved deep dish pizza after years of not havig one and this hit the spot. The bread rolls can be skipped, not very flavorful or satisfying.

Loved the server, so polite & service was quick. Pizza was good! I went here while my daughters were somewhere else.

Delicious pizza, wonderful staff very sweet and friendly. Not a long wait, got to watch the Texan game upstairs. A lot of nice things to look at inside, was seated upstairs and enjoyed the atmosphere. There's outdoor seating to enjoy on a nice day. I would recommend and a family friendly place kids would enjoy. There are kids menus and you can order pizza by the slice. Loved the many options on the different pizza styles and crusts to choose from.

My son wanted deep dish pizza for his 16th birthday so he chose this place. We were absolutely happy with the service, the food and the ambience of the place. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Our server was so sweet and nice and attentive. She sang happy birthday to my son and let us bring in his birthday cake. We all were truly satisfied after leaving if I could give this place more than five stars, I would. Thank you!!!!

My pizza was ready on time and the service was great although our interaction was brief. It's a thin crust pizza and the edges were just perfect out of the oven. The chimichurri worked perfectly with the smokiness of the chicken. The cheese was so fresh and the sauce flavorful. Next time I'll order it well done because the toppings made it a bit soggy in the middle the next day. I can't wait to try more on the menu! The space is small and has patio seating. I would consider it more for takeout or a quick lunch.

Walking in there a couple seats to the right, menu is on the wall to the left, and order & pickup counter in the center. I ordered the Coffee Cowboy pizza and a full order of Dad's Bruschetta (Dad OG's). It took quite a while for the food to be ready, as it was a Friday, and was just blowing up on social media. So I recommend ordering online beforehand, I also noticed while waiting for my food to be ready, that the staff taking orders were bias towards certain customers but that could just be me. There are more tables and seating outside in front with napkins rolls available which I sat at when the food ready. The Coffee Cowboy pizza had coffee-crusted hereford flank steak, smoked onion bianco sauce, mozz, white cheddar, caramelized onion, smoked salt, and truffled arugula. But sadly wasn't to my liking along with the Dad's Bruschetta. Overall, food wasn't really to my liking, and recommend ordering ahead of time.

Excellent pizza. And I felt like I was in NYC…read more We came here on a whim on an early Saturday night (around 8 p.m.), though this joint has been on our radar for years. The atmosphere is somewhat dingy, but not in a dirty way. Rather, it just felt like they spend so much time turning out wonderful pies that they really don't have time to touch up the paint. Seating is limited. We found a table in the loft, and it was just fine. It's counter service here, and the young lady who took our order was polite and efficient. Parking, by the way, is on the street or in one of the nearby garages. Most importantly, the pizza here is really good. The atmosphere reminded me of so many pizza joints in NYC, as did the pizza -- thin, foldable crust and a tomato-forward sauce. The cheese is top notch, as is the uber-thin pepperoni and fresh mushrooms. Slices are available, and seemingly popular, but we ordered a whole pie. I understand that this place is open until the crack of dawn for all the bar-goers. During our visit, however, we were the only customers without kids -- or infants. Yep. It was Romper Room for sure. All of that to say that drunks might get their 3 a.m. pizza fix here, but so too do young families patronize this place much earlier. Fun experience. Wonderful pizza.
