Merida is a family-friendly Mexican restaurant located right on Navigation Blvd in the East End. One of my friends and I decided to stop by unplanned at the last minute for dinner about 20 minutes before they close. While the waitstaff alerted us that they were about to close, we assured them that we would order quickly. The inside has a number of tables of different sizes and while it was basically empty since they were about to close, it seems like a spot that large families and friends would go to enjoy dinner together. Around the tables, the decor pays tribute to the heritage of the dishes with a large rural of the Mayan pyramids, hand-carved art, and traditional pottery on display. For food, we ordered the shrimp and beef fajitas, which came out quickly. The sizzling platters were accompanied by a personal tortillas warmer with choice of flour or corn tortillas, and a large plate with rice, beans, guacamole, and a pico de gallo which was very heavy on the cilantro. The serving sizes were generous including the protein portions. I like my food pretty spicy and noticed that the dish could have used a little more kick but understand that that is not everyone's preference. I will say that their grilled onions on the fajita platters were fantastic. It's worth noting that there are several other well-known Mexican restaurants on this street, however Merida's prices are not as expensive. Our fajita plates were about $15 each. To complement my meal, I ordered a rocks margarita which came in a large glass but was not my favorite. It tasted a bit artificial and not like it had been prepared from fresh lime juice. I'm not sure that I would order this drink again Overall, a solid spot. It's definitely worth a try. read more

I've always had my bf pick up to go food from here so I'm not sure how the atmosphere is. He does report the staff is friendly. I've had their fajita platter, chicken soup and their red fish. I have to say I love everything I've tried from this restaurant. The fish was very saucy and flavorful., the fajitas were also very tasty and well marinated. The chicken soup is my favorite, and the fact that they pack it with such care to keep it hot and they even packed the soup separately from the veggies and chicken that go in it. I definitely recommend this place for authentic deliscious Mexican food. read more

This is an authentic Mexican food spot. Always loved it. We take our children with us to eat, family friendly.

The atmosphere is pretty nice in the heart of the east end. The food was ok, the shrimp was on point but the beef was a bit tough and needed some more seasoning the meat on the torta also, but all in all the food was like I said ok and service was very good, so if your in the area give them a try. read more

Service was slow, ambiance was festive and food was very bland but plentiful. Everything lacked flavor even the salsas. We had a person in our party that is allergic to pork and we asked that they be careful that no pork or pork products be on her plate but twice they brought out bacon on her plate. Been coming here for years, but it's nearly impossible to ignore the decline in quality of the food. Had beef fajitas and they were so chewy, that I ate the great rice, beans and avocados. For $22, it is about $5 less than nearby restaurants, but since they're so chewy that you can't eat them....its frustrating. Server stopped by and did not even bother asking because it was obvious when everything but the fajitas if the fajita dinner was eaten, it's pretty obvious. Or they knew the meat was inedible. It was a cold, rainy, lazy Sunday and I was feeling under the weather. I live about three blocks away so I decided to order the Caldo de Res for takeout. Probably due to the weather, the restaurant was empty so they took their time gettin my order ready. When I got home, I could not believe the huge portion sizes and all of the vegetables and meat that was included. I was going to a play nearby and was craving Mexican food. Since I didn't have a cooler to put my leftovers, I ordered an enchilada from the children's menu. I asked him to have them put tomatillo sauce. They didnt. It was smothered with cheese and gravy. They don't have vegetarian beans so they served me two sides of rice. Had lunch here today. A total of 6 people. Waited for 1 hour for our food to be delivered. People that got there after us were served before we were. Told the young lady that I was not giving a tip due to the length of time we waited. Informed her that I understand that lunch time may get busy but when you only get 1 hour to take lunch and you use it just getting food that was ridiculous. We were there on Friday around noon. The service was unbelievably slow and unfriendly. The waitress that wears her pony tail high was unfriendly and looked like she hated her job. It took our order, for 3 people, 45 minutes to come to the table! No one ever explained why the kitchen was so crazy slow. The kitchen staff looked over whelmed and unorganized. I'll call this place vintage. Atmosphere is cozy and familiar for those that grew up in the area. Drinks were good. Food, is a hybrid of Mexican authentic and Tex-Mex. My personal taste is Mexican authentic so I was not thrilled with my enchiladas made with flour tortillas. My friend got the caldo de rez and that was delicious. They offer breakfast all day. My daughter enjoyed her Mexican eggs, bacon, beans and flour tortillas. It's a traditional place to hang out but I think their food quality has room for improvement. If I go back, it'll be for the affordable drinks but I'll be more selective with what I order. To end on a positive note, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. read more

My husband loves this place for its Menudo (chili soup with beef tripe) for breakfast and its homemade tortillas. However, I have eaten here for breakfast now a couple of times and I am truly underwhelmed. The bacon is fatty and undercooked, the home fried potatoes are limp and undercooked. With maybe a touch of a tomato in it. And the scrambled eggs with pieces of tortilla were super bland. Sorry, not impressed at all. The service was very good so J still give them 3 stars. The whole place is a bit old and worn-out looking. Not all that clean when you start looking closer. But it does have its regular clientele like my hubby, so I guess some people are just more impressed with them than I am. read more

Disappointed & Disgusted + FLIES, ROACH, RESTROOM. Idk if they have new management but this meal was sub-par which is really sad because we've always enjoyed the meals (& the prices). The fajitas were served barely above room temperature. Usually they come out sizzling hot and the food came out so fast we knew it was pre-made. There were flies galore hovering over the meal, we asked for napkins and got 2 (not enough) and to add to everything a roach crawled out from underneath our table while eating. The girl at the front counter that checked us out blamed it on the rain but it hasn't rained for 4 days now so that is false. She never even apologized. She unwillingly took off 15%, as an ex-server that doesn't cut it, but I gagged the whole ride home just thinking about that experience. Also, they ask you to not flush your toilet paper--- ew--- so there is a trash can full of unsanitary items uncovered next to where you are supposed to do your business. It does take much to get a trash can with a lid!...or invest in better plumbing. I'll pay more across the street at El Tiempo. read more

Good food! The food seems to be fairly authentic Mexican food and when I visited, majority of the guests were Hispanic so I knew I wouldn't be let down! Great service as well, very attentive. My only issues were that the Margarita wasn't strong enough and my friend's steak wasn't medium like she asked (too well). Would definitely come back! read more

After living in the area for a few years I decided to try this place. The chips were stale and the salsa bland. The margarita (frozen) tasted watered down. The flautas were awful, they were bland and tasted like grease. The tacos al carbon were okay at best. The rice tasted like microwavable uncle bens. The beans tasted like crisco. More importantly, they were spraying down the kitchen at 7PM on a Saturday while they were also preparing food in the same area. Was looking for a good taco spot, the kind of tacos that will leave the flour dust on your fingers, saw yelp reviews and knew right away I wanted to check this spot out. Had breakfast here recently on a weekday. Cops cars in the parking lot are always a good sign for decent and affordable food. I ordered coffee and barbacoa with corn tortillas. The waitress brought flour tortillas and I let it go, no big deal. I waited forever and had to flag her down for a coffee refill, and never got a third (I often have 3 or 4). I asked if they had spicy salsa verde and she brought me red salsa and El Yucateco. The barbacoa was good though. read more
