I decided to begin this review like I guarantee you no one else has ever done.
My dad has this odd fascination, uber weird obsession, with the tiny cappuccino spoons or any other really small spoon that a restaurant has and has built up a nice collection of them, I think about 50 or so. Sometimes he flat out tells the waiter hes going to take it and other times he just gets me to do his dirty work or he just does it on his own. after 24 years of life I still don't understand why he does it, but hes got this collection in his office that keeps growing and growing with each meal and honetsly some of them are pretty bad ass.
So this brings me to our dinner at Spago, which was amazing and a real blast, on their tables they have a little small bowl with salt in it and the spoon in that bowl is this real tiny one with a pointed edge to get the salt up easier...I would say its about as big as a pen cap. So the moment we sat down my mom noticed the spoon and turned her head to my dad and without missing a beat he said I'm not going to take it so don't worry, they he looked over to my sister and I and winked...ya cause we know he was going to resist this primo spoon haha. So as the meal went on we order out drinks and main courses and the spoon just sat there waiting and temping my dad saying "don't you want to take me" and so on. When the waiter returned to ask our desert orders my dad flat out asked him if he could take the spoon, I knew he would it was just a matter of time before he either took it or asked...I mean for anyone who was there they can attest it was a pretty cool looking one. So he asked, or I guess you could say told, the waiter he was going to take the spoon and the waiter played along and said sure, not knowing my dad was actually going to take it.
My mom had this look on her face that was like omg I can't just believe you did that! My sister chimed in and said to our waiter that my dad was serious, and the waiter responded with the fact the spoon was made of sterling silver and this super tiny spoon was about $30, almost bordering on grand theft!! The waiter looked at my dad again, and I knew there was on way he was leaving without this one, it was just a matter of time and how he was going to take it. So when the waiter returned my dad said a bird fly by and grabbed it when he was at the bathroom, the waiter winked at him and said sure he did, and then said hey if it's gone there's nothing I can do and patted my dad on the back. THE BEST WAITER EVER!
Now as for the food, I mean there's really not much that can be said beyond the fact it is amazing and the quality they use is second to none. I had the ahi tuna cones for my app and it was a real cool idea (kind of like an ahi tuna ice cream cone) but the fish you know was right from the ocean and the little hints of chili oil and cucumber and avocado where just the perfect pairing. For my main course I had the strip steak, and I kid you not the crust they put on this steak looks like they burnt it to a crisp, but then you bite into it and you realize it's the kick ass dry rub and the inside of the steak was a perfect juicy med rare. It was hands down one of the best steaks that I have ever had, and to top it off they cut it for you lol.
The waiter we had and the rest of the wait staff were incredible and super attentive, and really made the experience over the top and we plan on going there again when we go back to Maui in December. read more
