I come here about every other month for a brow wax and haven't ever had any major problems until today. Most of the skin on my brow bone has been ripped off. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home because I don't get oil put on afterwards and my brows always burn a bit. I have never had this bad of an experience or left in this much pain from a brow wax. read more

Sadly disappointed with the quality of this salon. Looks and feels like a typical salon. Looks to be very clean. Had SNS done, was not very impressed they didn't have actual nail samples of the available colors, they brought out cardboard boxes of the jars and often times it's hard to judge a color by the powder color. They do not use SNS branded powders, but I did find a nice CnC branded powder which I have used before. Tech seemed to know what to do, but had to refer to the label many times which made me a little concerned she doesn't do it often, I was also concerned with the many different branded products they used, including an activator I have not seen. You'll see where my concerns are further into the the review . Nails came out decent, cost $50 which for SNS is about my normal cost. Would I be back? Maybe in a pinch, but I will stick to my regular salon further from home. Day 1 - when I got home I noticed on my left hand two nails had little divots, not quiet smudges, but a problem with the curing of the final step. I sat in that fan for at least 10 min when it takes usually 5 min at my usual spot. They weren't too noticeable to go back and have it repaired, but I did feel I didn't get my money's worth. Day 2 - mid-day I noticed a chip out of the middle nail of my right hand. At this point I'm sick to my stomach. I feel terrible not going to my usual spot and taking the time to get it done right. Salon is closed, due to the holiday. Day 3 - call when they open, explain the chip and was told to come in after work and they will fix it with no charge. This makes me happy and go after work. I go to the salon and feel like a nuisance the moment I walk in the door. I explain I did nothing to cause the chip or missing show them the damage to the other nails. I'm told to wait which was fine. No greeting from the person who ends up making the 'fix'. The boxes are presented to me again to figure out the color, my fault for not remembering the number. But I find it. Nails are drilled down a few layers and steps redone with the same mixed branded products. The chipped nail was just filled in with layers of products and smoothed down with a drill. It was done quickly, but not well. Upon inspection when I got home I noticed another divot in one of the nails and the one that had a chip is all lumpy and the product is shiny in parts and dull in others. She used cuticle oil immediately after drying so I couldn't see the imperfections before I left, but feel like she knew it was not the way it should be, but didn't want to do it over. I have come to terms with my losses and will wait as long as they last to go back to my usual salon. Since my only experience with them is SNS I would highly NOT recommend them for this service. They do appear to have a broad range of gel colors including OPI, if I go back, which based on the repair experience will likely be never I would only go for gel manicures. The pedicures are awesome and you get to enjoy it in a relaxing environment like no other. They have it separated from the manicure stations and you can easily fall asleep since they keep it dark. My favorite place to go! They are very meticulous workers and are willing to even stay late to make sure you're satisfied. Thank you Spa One! read more

I went to this place yesterday and it was my first time here. the guy that did my nails was awesome ! i wish he would have used a little more glitter but other wise very happy with my artificial nails. being in the industry my self i would recomend this place. i will be going back soon with my friends so we can get pedicures as well.. i love this place there isnt much more to say than that ! :) read more

I have been going to Spa 1 for several years, and they provide great service. They are friendly and accommodating- be sure to call ahead if you have a technician request or can't wait because they do get busy (negative reviews about waits at quality establishments should not be allowed.) I followed Helen here when she transferred salons. She is the best!! She does such a thorough job on my fill ins and is a perfectionist about her work. If you have an issue within a few days, they will fix it without any questions. read more

I used to go here regularly. Stopped going in November 2011 after contracting a fungal infection on my leg. Diagnosis required a puncture biopsy including stiches and 3 months of minocycline twice a day. As my dermatologist explains it - dead skin collects on the filters, fungus grows and people come in contact with it in the foot bath. Freshly-shaven legs are a particular hazard. Each bath should be disinfected and 15 minutes should elapse before taking the next customer in the same chair. I will not return. read more

I've been getting alright service here for awhile, but today was the final straw. I go in for my regular eyebrow/lip waxing, and the girl rushes me into a back storage room with christmas decorations and boxes everywhere. Not exactly the best atmosphere. I ask for an arch on my eyebrows/cleanup. She proceeds to just slather the wax on my eyebrows in a rush, and I can tell they aren't going to look good. She tells me she's all done 5 minutes later, without once picking up a tweezer. When I look in the mirror, I'm horrified. I now possess the worlds thinnest, straightest eyebrows - it looks like a cartoon character, with stray hairs still at the end and on top. Never, ever going here again. read more

I went here the other day for a French gel mani. The Nail technician is very nice and friendly. What struck me as odd was that she put the white color on the top 1/4 of my nail and then defined the thin line with a paint brush. This took quite some time as she had to keep applying the white color and redefining the line with the brush. Why not just use a thin brush in the first place? The white lines came out okay, but still have some spots that are iffy. read more

I LOVE this place and have recommended it to many people. If you find one of the women that you really like - all you have to do is call ahead and ask for her availability and you can get an appointment very quickly. If you don't call ahead you'll have to get the next technician that's available - so I ALWAYS call ahead. My favorite is MaryAnn..... and the pedicures last FOREVER! I went this past Saturday and I didn't have an appointment. To be honest most nails salons like this don't take appointments and I am pretty sure if you had one you still have to wait. I didn't mind waiting since it was early Saturday afternoon. The place looked okay, the woman who did my nails was nice. It is just the usual conversations, the weather, the weekend, how do you want your nails filed. I don't care for much conversation if I am going to a place like this. I know you shouldn't get your nails done if you are in a hurray but I just wished they used OPI rapid dry top coat or have that aersole spray that helps the nails dry faster. I will go back because I would rather spend $20 ($15 for service and $5 tip) then try and do my own nails. PS You can pay with a credit card ... Tip MUST be in cash! :) read more

This place is ghetto. Never again. Got a pedi and yes the lights are completely off (no main lights) in the pedi section, but first of all this just feels weird. Like in a public place, I kind of want the lights on. But keep in mind also, then they don't have to worry about keeping the place spotless. The lady didn't listen to me when I said I wanted the water 'as cold as possible'. She put the very hot on, burned the crap out of my feet and then after much prompting from me finally got it to 'warm.' It was 95 degrees out that say. Secondly, she keep hurting my feet but using the exfoliating scrub on the tops of my feet and legs. Seriously doesn't anyone else think this hurts? She also kept massaging my feet and shins too hard. I kept telling her 'no scrub' and ow and stop. Damn. Learn a little bit of English. She keeps looking at me as if I'm a weirdo and staring blankly at me as I am saying no thank you. (And keeps doing what she's doing.) And then she's gossiping about me to the lady next to her, pointing at my feet and legs - acting weird to me, making me feel like crap. For real?? You had one job.. I had been kind to her the whole way thru, was polite, etc. I have a lot of empathy for those in these types of positions. But I will never go to this ghetto hole again. read more

Great job, very gentle. I did not see any prices posted any where and was charged $60 for pedicure (took about 20 minutes) and a gel manicure. The staff were almost yelling at each other in their language the entire time which I always find very rude. If you're looking to feel comfortable, this isn't your place. But if you are looking for a reasonable mani/pedi, this is a good place. read more

They are wonderful here! I don't go here as often as I used to because I have moved and am very busy, but I still come here with my mom when she needs a pedicure because she lives close to here and this is her favorite spot! They are clean, always do excellent work, and their customer service is excellent! The first time I came here was back in 2006, and they still always remember us and remember everything we talk to them about and make a point to ask us about things such as our family and such. My boyfriend got me a gift certificate for here so I went to check it out. I was very impressed! This will be my go to place for pedis and waxing from now on! I got a pedicure and eyebrow/lip wax. This is the best eyebrow wax I've gotten in a long time. Like the others said, they are very clean and sterile. The room for the pedis is very relaxing with a zen like vibe. I love the massage chair! My technician was very nice, she gave me a 10% discount and it was my first time here. I will be recommending this place to everyone! read more

I've been getting my nails done for more than 15 years. I've been going here for 3 years because its super convenient for me. It's hit or miss, sometimes its great and sometimes the manicure peels or chips quickly. Overall its clean and fine. I've had a few regular shops over the years, and this is not my favorite, but it works. Prices are a tad expensive, but not too bad for the area. I've never had any sort of infection or anything like some of the other reviews, and I've been there many many times. one annoying thing was when I first started and had someone I loved (she's no longer there), I would make appointments with her, but then when I arrived I would still have to wait a while. Bizarre. If you have an appointment, don't take the walk in that comes 10 minutes before your appointment. Oh well, I'm moving, but just thought I'd share my experiences. Horrible customer service, been here a few times. Last time I went i got acrylics, and it hurt so much. After she was finished, i checked my nails , they weren't even the same sizes, and there were dips in the middle of my nails. Never going back. Got my friend & me in for a quick lunchtime pedicure on a beautiful Friday! The salon was nice and CLEAN! They grabbed a package of autoclaved sterile instruments and away we went to the back room with 6 pedicure chairs. The lights were nice and dim so the atmosphere was relaxing, but the technicians had a light they could turn on when they wanted to see a little better. The lotion they used spells wonderful, and they did a great job on my toes. Plus the nail drying station had cookies! Best $30 I've spent on a pedicure in the Centreville area. read more

This place is deplorable. I have a favorite salon that I regularly go to in Alexandria but was not able to drive that far and needed an acrylic fill asap. I should have turned around before I even walked in to this place. It is filthy, messy and totally disorganized. The nail techs who work there don't even seem like they have properly trained or educated in the art of nail sculpting. The girl who filled my nails convinced me to remove a few of the acrylic overlay on my nails and said I needed to replace them because they were lifting. I let her do it and before I could even realize what she did next, it was too late. She then cut WITH A SCISSOR my natural nails which were under the acrylic and actually cut two of my fingertips!!! I was very upset and it hurt and I asked her why she cut my nails with scissor and she said she had to put tips on those nails and couldn't just put acrylic over the existing nails which was untrue! I've been getting my nails done for 30 years and never experienced that before AND my fingertips were now bleeding and the nail tech told me no it wasn't blood that it was just pink from having acrylic on. I will NEVER go to this place again. They have some nerve to even use the word "spa" in their name. This place is a dump full of flunky manicurists. read more

Came here for a mani & pedi. The lady who did my pedi was great. However, the lady who did my mani was rude. She grunted directions and pointed in the air at random things. I think she was missing a few marbles. She slabbed lotion on my hands. Other nail salons will massage the lotion into your hands. Not this cruella deville. She told me to wash off the lotion in the sink but didnt even point me to the direction of where the sink was located. I hope she finds happiness in life because she seemed like a miserable person read more

I've been here many times and used to love it. I would work with Thuy. Unfortunately, she is no longer there and I'm having a very hard time finding some one i like. Tonight i had Vi, evidently the owner? She was too fast and very rough. When using the pick, it felt like she was gouging my toes. And she kept poking me with her fingernails. Spa 1 Nails is fabulous. I live 30 mins away but when I feel the need for a mani/pedi this is the first place I think of. Although I usually try my best to see Vy (she's amazing!) or Helen, one of my favorite things about Spa 1 Nails is that I feel totally comfortable going to any one of their nail techs and am confident I'll come out with a great look. Management seems aware of the quality of their employees. In the few instances that I've encountered a nail tech that did a poor job I noticed they weren't employed there for much longer. Also, they've installed new pedicure chairs that are much more effective than the older versions. Waxing services are quality; however, for eyebrows, if there's a certain shape/thickness you prefer let them know beforehand (they seem to default to a thin brow) Staff is friendly and professional and walk-ins are welcome. I definitly wouldn't make a 30 minute drive for an underwhelming experience. Spa 1 Nails is legit! read more

IF ONLY I COULD GIVE THIS A NO STAR RATING.This place is horrible!!! I went there for a pedi and fill. The pedicure felt very rushed, and not relaxing at all. There's a sign in the pedicure area on the wall that say's "please keep quiet no cell phones"...yet most of the nail techs were giving each other pedicures speaking loudly. Next she took me over to begin my fill...which again felt like she was rushing. She didn't clean under my nails good ( i work at a hair salon and had color stains on my nails) getting it off has never been a problem at any other nail place I've been to. She proceeds to put the acrylic on and tells me its gel...I told her no I want acrylic. She continued and said its the same thing. Long story short I got up and left..she was doing such a bad job, that I didn't want her to finish.....on top of that she still tried to charge me for gel acrylic. When I told her I didn't ask for it... she dropped the price. I spent $50 on horrible incomplete service. read more

I have been going to this salon for about 6 months. I had been recommended to Kenny, but when he stood me up, after having an appointment and not giving me a courtesy call to let me know he wasn't going to be there, a lady named Julie offered to do my pedicure and gel manicure. I was very reluctant, but she did an amazing job. She is now my go-to person and I can always trust that she will take her time and do a wonderful job. Let me be clear, Kenny always did a very nice job, however his lack of customer loyalty turned me off. I was not a walk-in, as I made an appointment specifically with him. I feel feedback like mine is important if you want to build a strong clientele base. Lastly, I wish the salon owner would invest time and money in organizing their nail polish. The cost of their services is on the higher end, therefore I feel like they should offer OPI and Essie nail polish for their customers. The lack of a quality selection is obviously an issue because it is mentioned by other reviewers. Polishes should be grouped by color to make a selection quicker for the customer. I have never been there when the "wall" has been organized. It would also be great if they would correlate regular nail polish to gel polishes so that customers who love their toes and nails to match, can have a reasonable good match. I have resorted to bringing in my own polish as to not get frustrated when I get there. Other salons I've used in the past in places I've lived, go this extra mile for their customers, and believe me, it's appreciated by their customers. I had a pedicure there recently and wish I had not. Julie did my pedicure. No one in there spoke very good English, all were hard to understand. At one point, she used a razor on my heels and cut both of them. (later learned this is illegal) The left heel had a deep cut and a lesser deep cut, not on the bottom, but on the side of the foot, in the back. The right one also had a cut. I felt pain when she used a very stiff, hard sponge afterwards, and there was blood. After she was finished, I requested a bandaid, as the deeper wound was draining. I had an appointment. She told me I got injured because I have thin skin?????? read more

Last Tuesday I decided not to go to my usual salon, and instead try something closer to my house. What a mistake going to this salon was.. I received a gel manicure, and it was hands down the worst manicure I have ever recieved. The lady who did my nails was incredibly inexperienced and kept hurting me when she was doing my cuticals, then when I would tense up she would kind of slap my hand and ask me to relax. A couple times I started bleeding and she put something on it to try to stop the bleeding. When I got to my car I counted all the cuts and she cut my cuticals SIX times. I can't make this up. One of the cuts I had to put a band aid on aand the other 5 started to bleed the next day. On top of that, only a week later my gel manicure is so chipped (two nails completely came off) that I have to go back to my old salon and get them redone. I'm appalled at the shape my cuticals are in (very scabby and dry) they look disgusting. Overall, horrible experience and I am NEVER going back. read more

I've gone here a few times just because my usual place would be to busy and I was sort of in a rush . Some of the times I've gone I've gotten a good manicure and I've gotten bad manicures . I will say they do tend to be rude or rough . And they're spa pedicure is just sea salt no additional massage or anything cool that you can usually get . I deff can say I love that there pedi room is dark to actually relax but they yell a lot at this place so it's not always the best ! But you can get a good manicure by going you just have to give it a chance but not the place to relax if that's what your looking for read more

I have been to the place a couple of times before for mani-pedi : not very clean table areas for manicure ( reuses towels they did previous customers' manicure on. On Friday 3/10/12 ,because I happened to be in the strip mall, I went there for a $30 gel nail polish manicure. I have been getting gel manicures for about 4 months now at random stores as convenience demanded : and every time they lasted 3 weeks : my nail grew but the color remained un-chipped all through. However, this was the first time I had gone to Spa 1 at the Union Mill Colonades for a gel manicure : I will never go back - not even for a regular mani-pedi ever again . The process seemed too fast this time and after the polish was applied , the feel of it wasn't the same as when I had it done else where. Sure enough, on Sunday polish started peeling on two nails. Went back there for a fix : the woman didnt bother to take off the polish and just reapplied polish and top coat over the peeling gel color ! By the following weekend , the patched polish on both nails peeled off along with that on two other nails !!! Didnt even last 9 days !!!! Gel is supposed to last at least two weeks and your nail grows but the polish isnt supposed to chip or simply lift off ! DEFINITELY STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GEL POLISH ! read more
