I got a haircut here for the first time last weekend and had a positive experience! My regular stylist was booked, but I wanted to get a haircut as soon as possible. I had submitted an online appointment request on a Wednesday afternoon for the following Saturday morning. That same day, I received a text stating that the Saturday morning times were full but that an afternoon time slot was available. I was so glad that they had an opening! I've been here at least three times now, I seem to bounce back and forth between Jina or Steven, a husband and wife duo and I think they're both great. Every time I get a haircut, I want something slightly different. I have parameters but I want the hairdresser to use their skills and their artistic eye to give me something that fits my face. I feel like I've gotten that every time. Right now I'm in a place in my life that I need a more practical haircut, and that's what I got. I went in November and it was very safe. After a year of not touching the previous color in my hair due to Covid, I needed a refresh badly! I live in Charlottesville and decided to drive two hours (4 hours round trip) to Centerville to book an appointment with Creative Hair Salon & Spa. So you can imagine how much I was looking forward to this experience. I wanted to remove the brassiness from my hair and get natural looking baby lights. Instead, I walked out of the salon with thick, harsh, yellow highlights on the top of my head with dark black ends! To fix the mistake, initially, they tried to remove the darkness with dye remover solution to no avail. There was no turning back from saving this hot mess. To make matters worse, while they were washing my hair out a second time, they also sprayed water all over my shirt and pants... The stylist offered to try to color correct my hair in two weeks after I washed my hair out at least *5 times*. However, while my hair color was processing earlier, she told me that she used a demi permanent color, which "will last a veryyy long time". So which is it? After 5 washes does this dark black color come out? Or will it "stay a long time"? While drying and styling my hair out, she had the nerve to exclaim "wow the hair dye remover made it look a lot better!" um hello, you never fixed it! To top it all off, the owner told me that for the mistake, they will take 10% off the total. Only 10%? You're kidding right? So all in all, I ended up paying $225 for this horrible result. Overpriced and a joke of a salon. Unless you want to get scammed, don't make the same mistake I made. Save your time and money and look elsewhere. read more

She is a lovely person but took 8 HOURS to do my color, even though it should have been a two hour apt max, and she still got it wrong. She bleached my hair THREE TIMES and after all of that still charged me $300. She killed my hair, she bleached it to the point of breakage and it feels horrible. I want a refund but I think it is too late. From what I understand the other two stylists there are amazing, I have no problems with them. I got my Balayage done here and it was an extremely seamless, clean, and comfortable experience despite the pandemic. I had Jina and she is amazing, nice, and super patient which helps my not-so-patient self sit tight. She styled my hair at the end and took pictures for me so nicely. I have since gone in for my touch ups, and I have had Steve for one of my toning and curling sessions which was also absolutely amazing. I have never done anything to my hair prior to this other than get a haircut, and as a first time hair salon customer for something as drastic as this, it was so nice. Highly recommend. read more

I had full head of highlights and my roots were out for a while, since my previous salon shut down due to COVID, in July I found Creative Salon and spa, had consult one day and made the appointment with associate stylist, I didn't mind paying more to seniors stylist, but they recommended associate, so I went in, she started dying my hair, it was disasters, instead of lightening my roots, she made it dark brown, then her seniors stylist had to step it, and recommended that bleach wash my whole head, at this point, instead of just fixing my roots they are washing away my precious highlights. I agreed, just wanted to be done and go home. So yesterday I went in for another root touch up, this time I requested seniors stylist Gina, she sounded like she didn't want to see me that day, very cold welcome, she kept telling me whatever shoe does it's not going to match 100%, she also said I can come back another day, I mean you are seniors stylist, how do you expect a client to pay you, while you made them feel like shit, if you can't see me that day call me cancel my appointment, don't bring me in and give me Bs, if you can't fix a simple root touch up, why would you call yourself a senior stylist. I got a really bad relaxer chemical burn from a salon in Manassas, so I decide to go natural. I though that I had no choice but to cut off the relaxed hair and wear a short afro; but Silvia had another SOLUTION. She told me about Magic Sleek treatment to straighten my natural hair. The 4.5-hour process with two people work on my hair resulted in getting 90% of my hair straight. However, day after day my hair started to curl back up. The MAGIC wore off. Five days later the hair closest to my scalp got tighter and tighter. A $350 treatment only lasted a few days. I can recommend the Creative Salon for providing another solution; but Magic Sleek is not for type 4c hair. Very expensive lessons learned. read more

It was my first time at this salon but I was fortunate enough to now have a go-to salon and my master stylist! I was here on a weekday for SIX hours. Though it was a long appointment, Lima and Haemi, made it extremely pleasant. To get as close as possible to my balayage inspiration photo, I had to go through color correction [because of the chemicals from box dye I used months ago which would affect the creative color results], lightening my dark hair [super challenging!], then the balayage itself. Haemi, is a master stylist for good reason. She was extremely meticulous with her work on my hair and also gave me great advice with maintaining it. It was so much fun to look at her variety of Harry Potter pop funko figures while I just sat back, snacked, and binge-watched my Korean shows. It was also a nice experience to get your hair washed multiple times by Lima's gentle expert hands! In the end, It may not have been exactly like the inspiration photo [since one appointment was not enough to lighten my hair to get the results] but so what coz I fell in love with my new creative hair color. Haemi also styled my hair a bit so we could take some cute after photos! They're a dynamic duo with their fun personalities and great customer service. It can be tricky to find a hair stylist who *gets you.* Jina takes the time to listen and understand what your hair goals are, and let's you know what's possible/impossible. The end result is always fab! They do ask for a deposit for more involved visits, due to no-shows, but honestly more places should do this...especially with businesses having to scale back due to covid restrictions. So happy with my experience here! I got a balayage color treatment. Before coming in, I did a consultation via e-mail with Haemi. She was very responsive and answered all my numerous questions. Once I made the appointment and got to the salon I was pretty nervous about it all. However, Haemi was very patient and detailed when discussing again what I wanted done and how much it would cost. Due to my thick and long hair the cost was a bit more but I expect this at every salon I go to. During the 5 long hours of work Haemi was very bright/cheery and thorough even though I'm pretty sure I was giving her arms a work out. The manager/assistant was also really nice! She helped me get water when I was thirsty and was making sure I was in good shape the whole time. Once it was all done, I left very happy and super excited! I had a few questions about the hair maintenance and so I E-mailed Haemi the next day and got my answers promptly. LOVED THIS. I've been to numerous places inquiring about toner treatments, only to be told there was nothing I could do. Well guess what, Haemi fixed it! The salon is currently being redesigned to look more like a boutique but to be honest, I couldn't care less about the ambiance. As long as the place is clean (it is), the staff is nice (they are), the price is reasonable (it is), and my stylist knows what they're doing (she does), I'm happy! Made a day of appointment for a haircut as is dawned on me that I was in sudden desperate need of a style cleanup. Angie was very sweet and did a very thorough washing of my hair (which I really needed because I've been using a "natural" shampoo and conditioner that really weren't cutting it). At one point Angie was cutting my hair so quickly that I was mildly concerned it was going to come out looking crazy but it turned out beautifully and with the help of some "non-natural" good ole regular shampoo and conditioner and some hair oil I left with a shiny smooth blow out. I also thought that reception was very nice (I always love being offered water or tea when I go to a hair salon). My one point of contention- I really hate cash only tipping. I never carry cash on me so it's a little inconvenient. Overall I'm really happy with my haircut and the price was reasonable! I will definitely be back:) read more

I decided to check this place out due to its fabulous Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed. I saw Lydia (again, thank you fellow Yelpers!), and she is a truly talented stylist and colorist. I have been dying my hair red for many years and am very particular about the color as I have experienced everything from "carrot top" to fire-engine hot roots. But Lydia made me feel completely comfortable by first doing a consultation and looking over color options before settling on a beautiful deep red. She was friendly and professional, and she and her assistant colored my hair in an efficient manner. She also colored my eyebrows (although that costs extra) and was very meticulous about the color application. Afterwards, she did a blow-dry and even trimmed my angled bob complimentary! Usually after getting my hair color done, I don't expect the color to look good until after the first wash, but with Lydia the color was perfect when I left the salon. I've received so many compliments on it already! A few other notes: this spa and salon is not incredibly upscale in appearance, but it is clean, efficiently run, and they use top-quality products. My primary qualm is with the price; $120 just for one all-over color? Yikes! Granted, you also receive a blow-dry, but I still feel that's a hefty price. Listens to what you're wanting to do, shows & discusses lots of options, patience of a saint with long troublesome hair, fun attitude (big plus when you're at a salon for 3 hours), kept a vigilant eye on how things were progressing throughout, and adjusting as she went. This is the only salon I've ever been to where the stylist actually rinsed bleach/color out of my hair in sections based on how it was going. That extra effort & care with my volume of hair really made a difference. Very focused on your satisfaction & excellent at talking it through at each stage to make sure it stays on track. Salon is clean & nice. Very friendly & helpful receptionist. Every person I saw working here seemed very pleasant. Based on other reviews, I requested Jessica L. do my hair and I was not disappointed! She was very sweet, listened to what I wanted and took her time cutting my hair exactly the way I requested. I've been looking for amazing hair stylists for a while but I'm usually bouncing around from salon to salon. I have waiting to re-dye my hair for a while and looking on yelp, Creative Salons got great reviews. I called at 2:15 on a Saturday to see if anyone was available and asked if I could be there in 15 minutes and I quickly grabbed my things and ran out the door! I entered the salon and immediately was greeted happily by the receptionist and was asked to fill out a new client form. Ashley greeted me and took me to the back where the "consultation" would take place. I showed her a couple pictures of what I wanted and she said she can't do exactly what I wanted because my hair is too dark but she would try to lighten it up. The bestestestest part was when she gave me a shampoo and she gave me the best head massage ever. She not only massaged my head but also my forehead and her hands/fingers are like magic. I'm surprised I didn't knock out and sleep the whole time. My hair came out perfect!!! The color wasn't exactly how I planned but I loved how it came out. I'm actually in love with this color and will probably go back in a few months to get a retouch. Thanks Ashley, you did an amazing job!!! AMAZING SALON or should I say.. absolutely spectacular hair stylist! This was my first time coming here after staying out of salon for about a year because I never thought anyone could live up to my old stylist at Salon Xhilaration. But Silviya, she did it! She's quite talented, very sunny personality, and so patient! This is the first time I have had someone cut my bangs and not want to cry about them. I got so many compliments on my hair today. She did full-color on my mid-back length hair with highlights and lowlights plus a cut that are stunningly natural even though I went for a rather bright red. I love it! I can't even describe how pleased I am with her work, except to come on here and tell you this salon is amazing and that you should definitely see Silviya. She has over 10 years experience (5 in Europe and 5 here) and I can be quite hard on my stylists, she truly does know her stuff, I was just so impressed. The salon itself is modern and sleek with the cooler greys and whites used tastefully to enhance different space features, yet very inviting and almost homey because of the warm wood furniture and plush seats throughout. Altogether with the little chandeliers everywhere make you forget this place is in a strip mall in Centreville, but more of a hidden spa in some great urban city. I will be going back. read more

If you're looking for someone to fix a bad haircut go to Lydia!! In November 2013, I came to Lydia in hopes that she could trim my split ends and fix my long hair because I had burned a small section of it while cooking. She did a great job fixing my hair as well as listening to my request for long layers and one length shape. The layers blended well and were soft, not choppy. Recently, I had my long hair (which were down to my ribs) cut short. I had a bad experience with the angled bob cut from a previous salon. The length of my hair was uneven (you can tell this simply by pulling all the hair into a ponytail to see if it gives you a uniform smooth shape) and the layers were not blended well. I had a section in the back of my head that were short and choppy that did not look good. I had to get it fixed. Once again I came back to Lydia and she did a beautiful job with fixing and styling my hair. She is very careful in her work and she has the technique and skills to deliver a wonderful haircut. If you have Asian hair I would suggest Lydia. I used to think that anyone can cut my hair, but I was proven wrong more than twice that I needed to find someone who is skilled to cut Asian hair. I've had bobs before, but Lydia really made me proud (and dare I say- sexy) to have this new hairstyle because normally I always felt like a little girl when other hairdressers gave me a bob. read more

After couple of bad experiences, I have been very skeptical of going to new salons but I'm glad I did and found Jina. She will give you an honest and realistic opinion on the outcome of your hair based on the existing condition. She will not tell you something is possible when it's not.
