Awesome little brewery off the beaten path in Edison! This warehouse space was beautifully transformed into a microbrewery. All the details, big and small, are there. It feels extremely cozy and the bartender was very kind. Lots of games to pick from if you are staying for a few beers. South 40 offers different size pours ranging from 4 oz, 12 oz, and 16oz as well as flights and crowlers to go. We really enjoyed our time at this brewery and the beer! The blueberry lager is so light and refreshing. Harvey's Ale was also so unbelievably tasty. I couldn't believe how much caramel I was tasting - it was spot on. Thanks for a great time!

Fun little hole in the wall brewery. Came here for two girls pint out events. Love how they change the menu based on the seasons. Very personable and knowledgeable staff! Parking is very limited so get there early!

South 40 Brewing is a nice little place to hang out. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and felt comfortable being there. I felt that my business was appreciated as well as my opinion. They are the 117th brewery I have visited in NJ alone. It's a small little place, and they have a tasting room side and a brewery side. But you can pretty much sit anywhere, and the owner does a good job at spacing everyone out and showing them where they can sit down. The decor of the place isn't anything extraordinary, and the supplies could be better organized in there. However, I know space is at a premium. The beers themselves are new, and it will take a little bit of time to perfect the formula. I did enjoy the double dry hopped IPA the best, and I was able to order a crowler to take home for the Super Bowl today. They are located in a large industrial park in Edison, New Jersey. You may think it's a little out-of-the-way to be there, but it's actually not. I was pleasantly surprised how close they were off the parkway. You can pretty much get there easily from almost anywhere in New Jersey because of the central location. So, I would recommend for people to go even if you may think it's a little far for you because it isn't. I'd go back.

"South 40 Brewing Co. is named after Route South 40, which, before 1958, was the name of the main road running into Long Beach Island, Pacansky's family's favorite vacation destination (The road is now Route 72). A mural inside the brewery, painted by a family friend, portrays the iconic road." From www.mycentraljersey.com article. This article explains how owner got into making beer after "a friend gave Kevin Pacansky a beer-making kit." Then it talks about his journey until he secured "the space, a 2,000-square-foot former Army ammunition depot, at the end of 2018." I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin on his grand opening day and he seems like a really nice guy. I give him and his staff a lot of credit for being able to open up this brewery during a pandemic year. South 40 is located in the Raritan Center area of Edison, its near Cypress Brewery but unfortunately its separated by the Thomas A. Edison Park so you have to go around to get to it. We visited on opening day and it was nice and spacious, they had live music and you can sit inside or outside. Hand sanitizers were available and staff were cleaning tables in between customers. I got a flight of beers for $10, my favorite was Simcoe's Baby (DIPA) ABV: 8.7%; Tropical, citrusy with a piney finish. I'm looking forward to trying some of his upcoming beers in production. Congratulations once again and I hope we can continue supporting our local businesses!

I really wanted to love this place but there were different reasons why I couldn't. First, the positive highlights! The inside is clean and the staff was so friendly and kind. The beer, IMO, was overpriced and tasted watered down. The beer had a very, very light flavor and I felt as if I was waiting for the flavor to hit after taking a sip, but it never did. Other breweries in the area are priced $5-$7 for a pint that doesn't taste watered down. Beer was served in plastic cups (flights and pints). If I am paying $7-$8 for a beer I expect a glass. I would highly recommend investing in glasses. The bathroom was very clean but there was no changing table. Moms go to breweries too!! I don't want to hear anyone say "don't bring your baby then". I hope my feedback helps the owners to make changes because I want them to succeed!

As I approached the door--something many others had done before me--I was abruptly stopped by a man who turned out to be the owner. He rudely told me "NO," and then followed up with "Would you walk into a refrigerator in a restaurant?" Honestly, if the refrigerator was in the middle of where the party was being held, then yes, I probably would--especially if there was no signage saying it was off-limits. Only after this encounter did he put up an "Employees Only" sign, which tells me it wasn't clearly marked before. This could have been handled in a much more respectful and professional manner. The owner's attitude was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. If he expects people not to go in, proper signage should be in place before the event begins, not after making guests feel unwelcome.

What is outstanding to us is the care which all the staff and brewers show as they are there. Clearly the same love is widespread as the place was full on a Sunday afternoon. It is pleasing that many were there with their kids showing that this local business gives to the whole of the community. The enjoyment of brewing has moved past mere pub secrecy out to the whole of the community. A long calendar of events of all types from pub trivia to local music to sponsoring fellow food, eateries and holidays are all helpful to promote the family warranted nature of this business as it's clear with a large number of newborns and families as might be unusual and yet should be normalized. All staff are knowledgeable in the brewing and hospitality skills to succeed now and for the long run. Point of sale systems are able to keep open a tab and clearly distinguish ongoing bills. The marketing keeps rights with the sign ups of emails and keeping customer histories. Branding is consistent and relevant leading to a nice, smooth, comfortable customer experience. The two bathrooms are both individual and there are plenty of amenities like nooks and crannies the chat in and coat hooks and ledges and more private corners and food trucks rotate thru the good seasons and lots of lovely people always. Cheers!

Oakflower, just opened in 2022, was recommended time and time again, so we made this our first stop. I'm pleased to say it absolutely lived up to the hype. You can tell a brewery is serious about their beer when they don't offer flights or any kind of flavored seltzers. They are concentrating on making the best beer they can and it shows. 11 beers on tap with lots of hazy ales, a dangerously good 12.8% barrel aged stout, and a pale ale on nitro which I don't think I have ever seen before. We did a few tasters and a few full pours and everything we tried was fantastic. The taproom is spacious, airy, lots of plants and natural light which gave it a relaxed vibe. It was a Friday afternoon and was pleasantly full, with some of the bartenders passionately talking New York sports with some of the regulars. The friendly employees, the amazing beer, the well designed taproom, its location right across from an old train station in quaint downtown Millington... all of this together made for a perfect first visit. We live too far away to come back anytime soon, but we bought some beer to go to tide us over, and will definitely mention Oakflower to others when asked for brewery recommendations in North Jersey.
