Flounder is actually right next to a distillery my cousin has been asking me about for years. I've lived in Franklin since 1990 and there are STILL places in Hillsborough I've never seen. So do forgive me. This brewery popped up on my IG (because of course it did) in the context of a monthly book club that they host in partnership with Somerset County libraries. I've spent the better part of the last 20 years primarily reading articles and books related to my grad coursework but made a commitment last fall to return to leisure reading that doesn't make me want to walk into the business end of the ocean à la Edna Pontellier. Take your time - I'll wait. I went for my first Books n Brews last month. The brewery has a classic wooded open concept downstairs, and a party loft upstairs where we have book club. It's BYOFood - at least on winter weekdays - summer and weekends may offer food trucks so please check before taking me at my word. The bartenders are super friendly and welcome you into the space - and back to the space once you return as I did this week. Our very own Cheers in central NJ. I'm Carla. The beer is really really good. I LOVE that there isn't an abundance of IPAs and I love a good hazy but brother please. Enough. They've got some good fruit/sour representation. The first time I went I got a cardamom beer, this week I snagged a currant forward hazy. Prices are reasonable and the vibes are great. They also have an outdoor picnic table area - my new book club buddy said that the outdoors is dog friendly and they regularly bring their pups. I'm both very excited for book club and for experiencing more of this brewery as the temps warm up. It's really giving a community vibe - in addition to book club they stage plays, game nights, musical performances, cheese board events - all kinds of good stuff. Enjoy my pics!!

What is outstanding to us is the care which all the staff and brewers show as they are there. Clearly the same love is widespread as the place was full on a Sunday afternoon. It is pleasing that many were there with their kids showing that this local business gives to the whole of the community. The enjoyment of brewing has moved past mere pub secrecy out to the whole of the community. A long calendar of events of all types from pub trivia to local music to sponsoring fellow food, eateries and holidays are all helpful to promote the family warranted nature of this business as it's clear with a large number of newborns and families as might be unusual and yet should be normalized. All staff are knowledgeable in the brewing and hospitality skills to succeed now and for the long run. Point of sale systems are able to keep open a tab and clearly distinguish ongoing bills. The marketing keeps rights with the sign ups of emails and keeping customer histories. Branding is consistent and relevant leading to a nice, smooth, comfortable customer experience. The two bathrooms are both individual and there are plenty of amenities like nooks and crannies the chat in and coat hooks and ledges and more private corners and food trucks rotate thru the good seasons and lots of lovely people always. Cheers!

Oakflower, just opened in 2022, was recommended time and time again, so we made this our first stop. I'm pleased to say it absolutely lived up to the hype. You can tell a brewery is serious about their beer when they don't offer flights or any kind of flavored seltzers. They are concentrating on making the best beer they can and it shows. 11 beers on tap with lots of hazy ales, a dangerously good 12.8% barrel aged stout, and a pale ale on nitro which I don't think I have ever seen before. We did a few tasters and a few full pours and everything we tried was fantastic. The taproom is spacious, airy, lots of plants and natural light which gave it a relaxed vibe. It was a Friday afternoon and was pleasantly full, with some of the bartenders passionately talking New York sports with some of the regulars. The friendly employees, the amazing beer, the well designed taproom, its location right across from an old train station in quaint downtown Millington... all of this together made for a perfect first visit. We live too far away to come back anytime soon, but we bought some beer to go to tide us over, and will definitely mention Oakflower to others when asked for brewery recommendations in North Jersey.

We came right before opening and waited in the car for the doors to open. Upon entering there were several people doing the same thing which speaks volumes for this place. It got busy right away and there was some type of event going on in the back too. Everyone was there to enjoy their beers and boy were they enjoyable. The girl who waited on us was very nice and honest as she gave my gf her brand new Chanel sunglasses she had left on the counter earlier when we were ordering. Thank you! This place has chill brewery vibes as you can see their production area and it's pretty spacey and I love how they are in an old post office building. They have a lot of board games to play while enjoying your beers and they also sell some merch. We ordered a flight: - Resting Grinch Face, Winter Warmer 5/5 - Terrible Twos Anniversary, Imperial Hazy IPA 5/5 - Kite and Key, Hazy IPA 5/5 - BOO-Yah, American Porter 5/5 Every beer was tasty af!!! I love this place and I look forward to my next visit. Thanks again for everything :) Sláinte

On a Sunday night, we were surprised to see so many people enjoying the evening. This place is popular with folks enjoying time with their family and friends and it even looked like a couple of small celebrations were taking place, which made our hearts happy. We enjoyed a flight and chose the Rustle dunkel, Tightrope schwarzbier, Resting Grinch face winter warmer, and the Boo-Yah porter. Loved them all and they have much more on tap, including hard seltzers as gluten-free options. Play a board game, watch sports on their TV, bring your own food, shoot some darts, and do a toast to what a wonderful year 2024 has been! Double Tap also has a special Instagram page that features all the dogs that come to visit!

They have 16 options on tap, showcasing their farm-fresh ingredients across beer styles, seltzers, and even birch beer. Flights are always a must for us when visiting a place for the first time and we enjoyed every taste. Standouts included the Doppelbock, Mango-Kiwi Fizzy, Godhi-Real Peach Fruit, and the most unexpected favorite, El Diablo Chelada, a beer-meets-Bloody-Mary situation. Even as someone who usually skips Bloody Marys, this one won us over. Bold, layered, and wildly drinkable. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome inside the stunning barn-style tasting room, complete with warm wood paneling, oversized wagon-wheel chandeliers, plenty of seating, Rutgers pride, and a peek into the production area. Outside, pups can stretch out on the spacious deck and lawn overlooking the farm. Bonus points for fire pits where you can cozy up with a beer. This is also a family-friendly spot with a great playground out back and loads of room to roam. Just be sure to check their website for 21+ hours.
