Enjoyed a night out to celebrate a family member's birthday. Service was very friendly. They had…read morethe window open directly behind us and it was a nice evening and thankfully no bugs came in. It was a night with live music so even though they played on the bar side it did make it impossible to hear people at our table talk. I had the chicken fried chicken that our server recommended. The chicken and Mac and cheese was good - the green beans not so much (they tasted strongly of citrus and there was a lot of soggy bacon that had been boiled. The flavor profile and texture just wasn't my thing.) Our final bill for 2 meals, a cocktail + beer plus tip was a little over $100. A little steep for what it was imo.

We were the only table being served, which gave us hope that things would go smoothly. Unfortunately, that hope quickly faded. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. My partner ordered a burger rare, and I ordered the mushroom risotto. When the plates finally arrived, I was shocked. The rice in the risotto was completely undercooked, the dish was incredibly salty, and strangely, there were no mushrooms in it. Desperate for a proper meal, I sent it back, only for the same plate to come back two minutes later with raw mushrooms just thrown on top. I honestly thought it was a bad joke. I was so hungry I ended up just eating around the mushrooms, but it was deeply disappointing. As for the burger, it came out well done, the exact opposite of what was ordered. But again, we were too hungry to ask for it to be redone. Sadly, we will not be coming back. This was not just a bad meal, it felt like no one in the kitchen cared. That plate coming back with raw mushrooms said everything. Circa lost two loyal customers that night.

I went last Sunday with an old friends nearby and it was such a great time with all the features…read moreone would want in a local brewery. What is outstanding to us is the care which all the staff and brewers show as they are there. Clearly the same love is widespread as the place was full on a Sunday afternoon. It is pleasing that many were there with their kids showing that this local business gives to the whole of the community. The enjoyment of brewing has moved past mere pub secrecy out to the whole of the community. A long calendar of events of all types from pub trivia to local music to sponsoring fellow food, eateries and holidays are all helpful to promote the family warranted nature of this business as it's clear with a large number of newborns and families as might be unusual and yet should be normalized. All staff are knowledgeable in the brewing and hospitality skills to succeed now and for the long run. Point of sale systems are able to keep open a tab and clearly distinguish ongoing bills. The marketing keeps rights with the sign ups of emails and keeping customer histories. Branding is consistent and relevant leading to a nice, smooth, comfortable customer experience. The two bathrooms are both individual and there are plenty of amenities like nooks and crannies the chat in and coat hooks and ledges and more private corners and food trucks rotate thru the good seasons and lots of lovely people always. Cheers!

I'm from South Jersey and have been to very few breweries in North Jersey, so I put out the call on…read moreReddit asking for recommendations for a weekend trip up north. Oakflower, just opened in 2022, was recommended time and time again, so we made this our first stop. I'm pleased to say it absolutely lived up to the hype. You can tell a brewery is serious about their beer when they don't offer flights or any kind of flavored seltzers. They are concentrating on making the best beer they can and it shows. 11 beers on tap with lots of hazy ales, a dangerously good 12.8% barrel aged stout, and a pale ale on nitro which I don't think I have ever seen before. We did a few tasters and a few full pours and everything we tried was fantastic. The taproom is spacious, airy, lots of plants and natural light which gave it a relaxed vibe. It was a Friday afternoon and was pleasantly full, with some of the bartenders passionately talking New York sports with some of the regulars. The friendly employees, the amazing beer, the well designed taproom, its location right across from an old train station in quaint downtown Millington... all of this together made for a perfect first visit. We live too far away to come back anytime soon, but we bought some beer to go to tide us over, and will definitely mention Oakflower to others when asked for brewery recommendations in North Jersey.

NESHANIC STATION: Readington Brewery is a true farm brewery, growing ingredients right on-site…read moreincluding hops in multiple varieties, plus wheat, barley, fruits, and even veggies that go straight from field to glass. They have 16 options on tap, showcasing their farm-fresh ingredients across beer styles, seltzers, and even birch beer. Flights are always a must for us when visiting a place for the first time and we enjoyed every taste. Standouts included the Doppelbock, Mango-Kiwi Fizzy, Godhi-Real Peach Fruit, and the most unexpected favorite, El Diablo Chelada, a beer-meets-Bloody-Mary situation. Even as someone who usually skips Bloody Marys, this one won us over. Bold, layered, and wildly drinkable. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome inside the stunning barn-style tasting room, complete with warm wood paneling, oversized wagon-wheel chandeliers, plenty of seating, Rutgers pride, and a peek into the production area. Outside, pups can stretch out on the spacious deck and lawn overlooking the farm. Bonus points for fire pits where you can cozy up with a beer. This is also a family-friendly spot with a great playground out back and loads of room to roam. Just be sure to check their website for 21+ hours. Bring your own food or catch whatever food truck is on-site, and don't miss their packed events calendar. Trivia, open mics, chess games, book clubs, bingo, and more keep things lively all week long. Farm vibes, great beer, happy dogs, and something always happening. Hard to beat!

We had a 7 PM reservation on a Wednesday night, and the place and parking lot were packed! Good sign to start! To begin, I enjoyed the Ruby grapefruit mocktail. Although I'd love trying new and unique cocktails at different establishments, I was in the mood for something light and refreshing and nonalcoholic. This hit just a spot. For food, we started off with the margherita pizza to share. Then, I opted for the crispy, buttermilk chicken sandwich with malt vinegar, potato wedges/fries. It was very delicious. The sandwich was crispy and fresh and the bun looked like it was handcrafted. The malt fries were unique because they had a vinegar powder on them. I've never tasted malt vinegar before, and it was a unique texture. Our waitress was very friendly, but I wish she had been a bit more attentive. She only stopped by to ask us for our drink order, our food order, and to give the check. My friends wanted to order more drinks, but because she did not come around as frequently as we would have liked, they were unable to place another order. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, however, because the restaurant was bustling from start to finish. Overall, very nice setting and meal. Cute decor, including an Anthony Bourdain abstract portrait.

Autodidact came highly recommended when I asked Reddit to recommend a brewery in North Jersey…read more Glad I made the trip as the beer was definitely top tier. My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Friday evening during a weekend trip to High Point State Park. They only had nine beers on tap but there was nice variety and excellent quality in the lineup. Several IPA's and hazy ales but also a grisette, a German pilsner, an English mild and a milk stout. They don't offer flights. Interestingly enough, as much as I enjoy flights at breweries, I've actually found that not offering them is usually a good sign as it is the mark of a brewery that is serious about beer and knows what they are doing. This was true for Autodidact as each beer was excellent. Five star beer but four star taproom. 6 o'clock on a Friday night but only about seven other people there so it was kind of dead. I didn't enjoy the dim, colored lighting or the cold concrete slab bar. We were sitting at the bar and I hated that the only menu available was behind us so we constantly had to turn around to look at what we wanted next. No beers available in the to go fridge but they were able to make us a few crowlers. We live too far away to come back any time soon, but I'm looking forward to tucking into the beers at home sometime soon.

The next time I come I am going to make sure they have a food truck that day or I am bringing some food and chilling longer. Thanks for treating us so great!
