Visited Juniper Hill last night for a reunion with a few high school friends. We enjoyed drinks and dinner at this quaint venue. We had a 7 PM reservation on a Wednesday night, and the place and parking lot were packed! Good sign to start! To begin, I enjoyed the Ruby grapefruit mocktail. Although I'd love trying new and unique cocktails at different establishments, I was in the mood for something light and refreshing and nonalcoholic. This hit just a spot. For food, we started off with the margherita pizza to share. Then, I opted for the crispy, buttermilk chicken sandwich with malt vinegar, potato wedges/fries. It was very delicious. The sandwich was crispy and fresh and the bun looked like it was handcrafted. The malt fries were unique because they had a vinegar powder on them. I've never tasted malt vinegar before, and it was a unique texture. Our waitress was very friendly, but I wish she had been a bit more attentive. She only stopped by to ask us for our drink order, our food order, and to give the check. My friends wanted to order more drinks, but because she did not come around as frequently as we would have liked, they were unable to place another order. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, however, because the restaurant was bustling from start to finish. Overall, very nice setting and meal. Continuing our trend of going someplace new for special events, I made reservations at Juniper Hill for my wife's birthday inside what used to be one of the bank branches I delivered mail to when I worked for United National Bank (~25 years ago), back when I worked with my future mother-in-law. I spent most of the night recalling how the building used to be (e.g., the bar is in what used to be the drive thru lanes). There's even a table inside the old vault. They brought out some pieces of focaccia bread with olive oil for dipping. As an appetizer, we went with the octopus à la plancha. For our mains, my wife had the salmon cooked medium, while I went with the flat iron steak prepared medium rare. For dessert, my wife had the carrot cake special while I had the milk stout float, which is like a root beer float but with a dark stout beer. Everything was delicious. We plan to return to try brunch sometime soon. read more

This place was highly recommended by multiple friends and family in the area. We came for brunch on a Sunday. We made reservations but didn't seem like we needed to since we came once they opened. We love the farm to table with the local farms. The menu is so simple but diverse in flavors. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu for lunch/dinner. I was told this used to be a bank and that you can ask to reserve the bank vault for dining. They have a good amount of seating inside and near their bar area. I stumbled onto this restaurant by accident on Resy and it with worth a visit! I was impressed by how good the staff was, the pleasant decor, and the fantastic food! They started me off with these tiny little onion bread squares, which were tasty. The fish of the day was cod and it was so good! Perfectly cooked, tender and glistening inside. Lots of flavors. We ate here last weekend. I'm ecstatic about the quality of food and the service at this restaurant. I am usually very disappointed by restaurant meals. Not so here! The meal my husband and I had here was beyond reproach. It was noteworthy and divine. We both loved it. We had a delectable grilled octopus stater, I had the vegetarian option which was an outstanding bean cassoulet and my spouse had the fish which was a generous portion of halibut that was in a marvelous sauce. I saw this restaurant on my way home And so I ventured into this one time bank Very welcoming building. First thing I noticed, very clean and a very nice hostess. I went to the bar had a beer and looked around. Again well kept very clean the beer was good so I decided to order one of their appetizers. The ricotta cheese with olive oil and fresh crusted bread. It was well presented and came out in a timely manner. It was delicious no over powering flavoring. All ingredients well balanced. The bar staff very professional and friendly. It's nice when even a little busy they can converse with you and that makes this restaurant one of my now favorites. Definitely going back with the wife. read more

I came here with two of my chums to kick off Memorial Day Weekend. I'd heard good things about this place but it's rare I'm in this section of Hunterdon for a meal. (Disclosure - I am a native of the Kingdom of Hunterdon) I mean this with all due respect, but the spacious, rustic farmhouse interior feels like it would be more at home in one of the tourist trappy areas in the western section of the county in Frenchtown or Lambertville. I would be curious what their typical clientele is - I think this area has gotten a bit bougier in recent years and could also be getting some of the visitors to nearby Clinton. Anyway. The minute I pulled into the parking lot here on Saturday afternoon, I thought, "This looks like it used to be a bank." The building has that local mom & pop bank vibe from the 80s/90s, and that thought was validated when we walked in and there was a small dining area inside a vault. Very nice touch. We opted to eat indoors (it was getting toasty), and despite it being around 1PM the place was pretty empty. We were seated within about 15 feet of the aforementioned vault, and I could see a full service bar area in the adjoining room. Definitely my kind of place. One issue with the artwork - per the accompanying picture, they have an Anthony Bourdain print up, but the quote of his has a significant grammatical error. It should be, "I WOULD like to see small farmers empowered," not I WILL." Hopefully they get that fixed in the near future but there's a decent chance I'm the only person riled up by it. I was sucked into the almighty brunch dilemma (sweet versus savory) and ended up getting the lemon ricotta pancakes, along with the biscuits and sausage gravy, thinking I'd understandably have quite a few leftovers. Nope - literally just one biscuit remained at the end of my carnage. Both were very good, though the biscuits were the star for me. SLIGHTLY overcooked/crunchier than I would have preferred, but they tasted fantastic and reminded me (in the best way) of my all-time favorite biscuits from Roy Rogers. The accompanying sausage gravy provided some much-needed moistness and flavor. The pancakes were very good as well; my only mild issue was that I wasn't crazy about the inclusion of the chopped walnuts on top (for texture purposes), but that's on me for not requesting their exclusion at the time of ordering. The service was pretty good. Our waiter was friendly and did stop by from time to time, but I thought the response time started to lag a bit in the second half of the meal. Nothing egregious, and no one was in a massive rush, peering at their watches, but it could tighten up a bit. We had a young pup in our dining party that was starting to get antsy, otherwise it may not have been noticed at all. It's sadly pretty rare that I have a solid restaurant recommendation around here (it's a bit of a foodie wasteland) but this would be one of them. I definitely want to come back to sample one of the edgy cocktails and hopefully eat a meal in the vault. read more

Love this little farm to table restaurant that is housed in a former bank. I came here for brunch with a friend on a Saturday in August. It wasn't too busy at all. Everything we ordered looked beautiful and tasted delicious. I had the shrimp and grits with a side of thick cut bacon for my main meal. Everything about the shrimps and grits was excellent and not too "heavy". The shrimp was ultra tender. The bacon was crispy and delicious. It was enough for two people with leftovers. I didn't taste my friend's peach and tomato salad but it was so visually appealing! My friend loved it! She added the chicken Milanese and thought it was the perfect accompaniment. The pot de crème was spectacular. It's like a luxuriously rich chocolate pudding. The lavender panna cotta was vibrant and just the right amount of sweetness. The blueberry compote complimented the lavender flavors perfectly. My cappuccino was also the perfect ending to my meal. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Love the ambiance and decor. They have outdoor seating and a liquor license. Found this restaurant on our way back from the Bethlehem,PA Christmas market. About a 20 minute wait for a bar area table - Saturday night at 715 with no reservation. Busy! It's small and clearly popular with the local crowd. Saw several singles (older, well dressed) eat at the bar. Food was excellent. Service was attentive and pleasant but not excessive. Varied menu with multiple price points. Pizza is a favorite - saw a lot of to-go boxes leaving with diners. I look forward to trying Juniper Hill again! read more

I regretfully chose shrimp and grits which was good, but my friend let me have a bite of the pancakes and those were incredible! Wow, this place is incredible. My sister hosted our book club here and when I first saw the menu, I wasn't sure it was "my kind of place" but I'm always down to try something new. My sister's husband recommended the Banh Mi Burger, he said it was on a list for "best restaurant burger" and he had his doubts but now he is always craving it and whenever he comes to Juniper Hill, he has to get it. I love Banh Mi sandwiches and burgers are great so I was tempted to get it especially after the high recommendations, but the Spicy Soppressata Pie was calling my name. My mother agreed to share her Banh Mi Burger with me and I was happy with the arrangement. That is, until our food came out. Now don't get me wrong, the Spicy Soppressata was great- hot honey, Soppressata, and Pepperoncini peppers is a mouthwatering combination and it did not disappoint!! However, when I tried the Banh Mi Burger I immediately wanted to grab her plate and finish it! Haha. So I guess the real mistake here was not ordering both. For dessert we shared the Chamomile Panna Cotta and the Citrus Tart. Both were absolutely divine. The Panna Cotta is small so I would recommend sharing with only 2-3 people. The citrus tart is a bit bigger, you can get away with sharing with 4-5 on that one. The chamomile infusion in the Panna cotta was unusual and delicious, it says it comes topped with blueberries but we were treated to a pineberry topping (those whitish pink strawberries that are seasonal this time of year) which made it even more unusual and special. In the citrus tart you have the very tart yuzu custard (I am not sure what yuzu is but it is yummy and very similar to lemon) topped with fresh blueberries and the most heavenly dollop of toasted Italian meringue. I did not have any alcoholic drinks but my sister said they are always really unique and enjoyable. Aside from the divine menu, the ambiance here is cozy and really cool. Apparently it used to be a bank and they've kept some of those original elements, like the huge vault and deposit box. My party was lucky enough to get the vault room which was incredibly inviting with its pillows and mood lighting. Honestly though, there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. It has a modern farmhouse aesthetic. The bathroom is private, large, and immaculate. I really have nothing negative to say about this place, and I will definitely return! read more

Service: it is very friendly and welcoming. They are attentive as well. Value: it was reasonable. If you are getting drinks you may end up paying more than $50 per person for dinner. Parking: this is an old bank so ample parking around it. Notables: the old vault is not a dining room, you can probably reserve it for special occasions. Stopped by for lunch after the Clinton Spring Street Fair. Super contemporary decor (even a painting of Anthony Bourdain) and delicious brunch menu. So much to choose from. My husband had chicken and waffles and I had a burger with bacon jam and fried egg. The fries were totally delicious! Bloody Mary was one of the best ever! Kudos to the bartender. Having grown up not far from here I would say this area of town would not be known for any outstanding dining experience. Things obviously change over the years, and I was surprised to see this on Yelp and with so many great reviews. In other words, I had to make the trek out to try it! What I experienced was a rare treat of what I would call a true artistic and talented chef creating experiences of taste and not just recipes to be churned out for the sake of food. The salad of Black Mission Figs, Prosciutto Americano, Arugula, Toasted Almonds, Chives, Hibiscus Dressing was truly amazing. Also at the table was a Crudo of Big Eye Tuna - Sliced Raw Big Eye Tuna, Grated Green Apple, Watermelon Radish, Yuzu Kosho, Fresh Dill, Juniper Oil. Though I did not taste it, the person enjoying it said it was amazing. Going into the main of Grilled Wild Fish Tacos - Wild east coast market fish, mango, fresh cabbage slaw, spicy mayo, lime the meal only got better. Now I love fig, so when I saw this salad I just had to get it. Now for the cost You'd think it was a big portion. But that is like an appetizer, well worth every penny. Sweet and savory with a little tang from the arugula it is mere perfection! The fisH tacos also has a blend of flavors that keep you just digging in for more! WOW! Still thinking about the food I had at Juniper Hill. Everything from the beets knees drink to the delicious pizza, I can't find anything I didn't like. Completely underestimated this place and I'm so sad I did. The bartender Alex ( I believe was his name) was extremely friendly and great mixologist to make perfect drinks every time. beets knees is photographed below and it was so good. We chose to eat at this place for dinner for my dad's birthday with my family. I told the hostess at the front that it was his birthday, expecting them to bring something out for desert or something. The hostess told us she would tell our server. Well, we got our check and nothing ever came. Since it was supposed to be a surprise, I didn't want to mention it out loud to our server. I rarely get to see my dad so then forgetting his birthday definitely ruined my night. We went home and ate our own ice cream instead. On top of that, I paid $17 for my burger and it honestly looked like some teenage kid had access to a grill. They were basic grocery store buns, iceberg lettuce, and thin patties. The fries were way too crispy too, made them hard to eat. And to top it off, it came with buffalo hot sauce and didn't say that anywhere on the menu, so I had an unexpectedly spicy first bite. I understand my experience was probably isolated and that this place is normally decent, but they need to step it up a bit.
