Finnagel's is a Clinton area staple. It has been here since, I believe, the late 70's. Now run by descendants of the original owners. For those from Westfield, NJ, there is a Jolley Trolly connection. Went with my lifelong friend that lives in the area. It is a really cute building that only houses the bar and restaurant. It is broken up into a bar area with booths and a couple of Dining Rooms. A great menu of bar food and steaks. I had the Jersey Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. It was outstanding. Service was great! Finnagel's has good thin crust pizza. The downstairs bar is family oriented and all are invited for a bite. It has established a local consistent strong following and it hustles on the weekend. If you are looking for a place to have a cocktail or a beer and a good meal in a family type environment, with good service, this might be the place for you. read more

Great local place for some comfort food. The onion rings were outstanding. The onions were robust which is usually a problem for me because they are almost always undercooked but they managed to get them cooked very well without burning the batter, which was excellent. The burger was very well cooked and full of flavor. It was a bit tough to eat due to the tall brioche bun but was still very good. It could have used just a hair more salt and pepper but there is plenty of that on the table so a problem that can be overcome. That is a nit anyway. The fries were coated and nice and crispy. I was in the mood for corned beef and cabbage since it's Saint Patrick's Day weekend. We were only able to eat half and brought the rest home. The staff were very friendly. When we arrived, we chose to sit in the bar area. They have a free booths slightly raised up, some high top tables, regular tables, and obviously seating at the bar. The bar area was decorated for St. Paddy's Day. They are on Toast, so most of the menu is available for pickup through the app. The check can also be paid by phone, also via Toast. We started with beers and three orders of chicken wings with the Finnagel's sauce and the sauce was AMAZING. not sure what it was, but I saved a bunch to dip my burger and inion rings in when they came. Not sure what the other end of the table ordered, but us old farts all ordered burgers. I had the black and blue burger (medium) with onion rings. The burger was delicious - especially with the Finnagel sauce. And the rings were great too. Unless I play golf in the area again I probably won't be back (it's an hour from where I live), but I'd 100% be back if I was in the area. We had a great time here and the service was excellent. Came here today. Was not impressed. We ordered the nachos with beef on the side, friend ordered cream cheese poppers, and we shared a turkey club sandwich. The turkey club was the only thing that was good because how can you ruin that. Oh wait, they brought the mayo on the side. So I had remove the toothpicks to take apart the mini sandwiches and try to add mayo. I made a mess. The Cajun fries were good, but they did not have a hint of Cajun flavor. The cream cheese poppers were over fried and hard to eat. I didn't like them. The nachos were soggy, loaded with velveeta cheese, jalapeño's, mushy salsa from a jar, not fresh, slimy avocado that tastes fake, black tasteless olives and pieces of lettuce and tomatoes. Friend did not like the way the beef looked so he decided not to eat it. I brought it home for the cat as I don't eat ground beef and this one looked like cat food. Cat said NO! He would not eat it. Thankfully, I didn't order anything else. I don't plan to return. Forgot to add that friend ordered the sangria and it was too sour. The French onion was good but I told the server I was allergic to tomatoes and peppers, including spices made from peppers (paprika, chili powder, cayenne,etc) I ordered the chicken sandwich figuring it would be a safe choice. I specifically asked for plain mayo on the side instead of the chipotle mayo because again, allergy. What the menu doesn't say is that it's spicy and the server didn't relay my allergy to the kitchen. I took one bite and I knew immediately i was in trouble. I asked again to please check with the kitchen and she did and came back and said don't eat it, drop it. We really enjoyed the food here. Ordered potato skins for an appetizer, I wish there was more cheese on them but it was enough for at least 3 people. I had the jersey burger that has pork roll and cheese. It was cooked perfectly and it came with a side and I chose onion rings which were very good. BF had the grilled chicken sandwich with mushrooms and Swiss. There was so much cheese on his. He had sweet potato fries which was nearly half his plate. The portions were huge and I only ate half the burger and onion rings and he didn't eat most of his fries since sandwich was huge. Service was fast and waitress were all very nice. We hit this place up about once a month. It goes under the guise of an Irish Pub, but it's really just a family restaurant with a bar. It's full of locals and there's always sports on TV. The restaurant is clean, but it's a bit cramped and it's kind of loud on the bar side. If you go to the other side, you feel as if you've been banished to a kiddie table. The food is pretty basic, chicken fingers, salads, sandwiches. The wings are pretty good if you get the Finnagel's sauce, which I believe to be the only thing the restaurant can claim as proprietary. The service is good, although it seems understaffed. There are two other restaurants in the proximate area that serve basically the same type of food and this one is the best of the three. There really isn't much choice in this town, so four stars is fair, although there is really nothing outstanding at this restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the food is consistent from visit to visit. read more

I am always looking for a good French Onion Soup. The pic someone else posted looked great so we popped in for lunch. Unfortunately they were not good at all. Tasteless watery broth, raw onions and very little cheese. My wife and I only took a couple of bites each and that was it. Over the years we've been to Finnagels many times. Every time the food just goes down hill. You might get the odd good dish but you might not. It's sort of local that why we kept going . Last night though, I'd have to say will be the last.... Now the service was great and our waitress was lovely and attentive! I had the Portuguese chicken sandwich, the texture of chicken was weird and just no seasoning on it...my husband ordered French dip, same thing beef so bland, a little salt and pepper would've gone far... my daughter ordered fish and chips, horrible looked like giant fish sticks and tasted worse... cold in the middle...the wings were good though! We stopped here on the way home to Allentown Pa. We usually go to Clinton Station which is just average anymore. We found this place on our GPS. It's right off of 78. Irish pub atmosphere. I butchered that...) make it even better. We ordered the jalapeño poppers app, the sausage and peppers Sunday special and the Sunday bowl of chili. All $5. Poppers were OK. Probably came out of a bag and were fried a bit too long. You get 6 so for $5 over fried poppers are not worth it. Sausage and Pepper Sandwich was kinda gross. Served on a hoagie roll, sweet sausage with fake sugary sauce was a bit too sweet. Had they used a better quality roll or hot sausage it could have been much better. Or maybe at least use a name-brand sauce. Chili, omg awful. Canned chili topped with raw chopped tomatoes and cheap cheese that didn't melt. It was bad. These are basic bar dishes that just shouldn't be messed up. This was our one and only stop here and can only hope this review is read and changes made.
