Nice outdoor seating area! Staff is super friendly

This place was really cute! It's small and off of a dirt road, but the scenery was still nice and the entire staff was friendly and attentive. They even gave us free ice cream!

Tasting room is inside of the barn

Mount Salem Vineyards is a small boutique winery. Formerly it was a dairy farm, the vineyard was opened to the public few years ago. This winery specializes in the use of Austrian and Italian grapes which is very unique for NJ. It is the only winery in New Jersey that produces wine from St. Laurent grapes. They had a Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, St. Laurent, Traminette, Viognier, and Zweigelt when I visited. It's a local gem if you like a Austrian wines especially light reds. Tasting was done at the 2nd floor of a small barn. It was a small tasting room. I like many of their wines. Blaufränkisch 2011 was like a pinot noir, I liked it. Also Blaufränkisch/Zweigeit/St Laurent 2014, Cabernet franc rose 2016 were good as well. I brought some bottles home. I will definitely go back!

Have been hesitant to write a review for the NJ vineyards we have visited because I am admittedly a Napa wine snob. (#sorrynotsorry). We came in here because we had been advised to visit one that was nearby. We did visit the one on recommendation and I saw that this one was close by and we gave it a shot. What a home run! This tiny little tasting room upstairs from the tanks and barrels offered an experience that has caused me to rethink my view on New Jersey wines. The owner/ wine maker was welcoming and courteous, the two girls behind the tasting bar were wonderful and admitted that they were fans before they came on as employees. Peter ( said owner/ winemaker) was making a pasta dish with pancetta and brought everyone a small plate to enjoy. The wines are by far, without a second thought the best wines I have tasted outside of California in the states. He uses all New Jersey grown grapes and makes them in the style of Austrian wines. If you are at all considering a visit in the area - stop by- don't miss this experience- it's unlike any other. He also has cooking classes that are offered Italian, Austrian, and Thai. We are going to do this but book a class for a private group. Average cost per head for the cooking class s $59 per head and includes wine pairings and dinner! The wine tasting today was $10 for a very generous splash of 5 wines of your choosing.

Have low expectations: this isn't Napa. Know that. You're driving off road for 5 minutes at least to get there, then you'll be unsure you're at the right place. Personally: I had a great time though. The space is private and tucked away at the top of the barn. Feels like what I imagined it would: rustic. The cellar master attended to us and was pleasant and informative, albeit as others mentioned short. But who cares? Wine was pretty good and for $10 the pours were fair. Overall my family and I had a blast. They even gave us free fresh breadsticks. Would not particularly return unless in the area.

If I had to choose a favorite from my flight,it would be blueberry mint sangria-very unique and refreshing! Staff onsite are efficient and friendly, and the venue itself was cozy inside (it was a hot morning outside so we didn't sit at their outdoor patio, though it looks lovely!). Plenty of dedicated parking,so easy to get to. Overall,a nice quick pitstop while spending time around Chatham!

This is a legitimate winery operation with an extensive menu of wines by the glass and bottle, flights, cheese boards, homemade ice cream, ice cream wine floats (yes, you read that correctly) and so much more. All of the wine is fruit based so you can find things like peach wines, apple wines, berry wines, etc. Perfectly refreshing for summer. Hubs and I each had a flight plus got a bunch of things to take home. Needless to say, we tried a lot of their wine and we loved it all. The homemade ice cream is also standout and the strawberry was decadent. My kids were over the moon about it. The space is big and beautiful! The indoor tap room has lots of seating, and then there's a large outdoor area with tons of picnic tables and space to roam around. They have live music outside, and the views of the farm are gorgeous. There's also tons of play areas on the farm, so if you come with your kids they won't get bored. There are strict rules on keeping the wine within the winery area only, but this is definitely not surprising for NJ and their tough liquor laws. Overall - it's incredibly cool to see a full fledged winery like this pop up on a farm. Besides just serving wine they are keeping the calendar stacked with events and music. The staff is friendly. The wine is delicious. And it was a fun place to take my kids with all of the things to do on the farm. It's safe to say we'll be back, and I'm excited to watch them grow as word gets around.

We were graciously invited by Jessica, one of the owners, to experience their dog friendly spaces, and we truly appreciated her hospitality. Leashed pups are welcome at the outdoor patio when it is quieter, and during busier times you can settle into a front-row spot on the lawn to enjoy live music. Their wines are crafted right on the property, and you can choose from tasting flights, glasses, or bottles, plus a tasty menu featuring charcuterie boards. We enjoyed both red and white flights along with a hummus board, all delicious and served by Karen, who made our visit extra special with her attentive service. Do note: during live music and events, you will need to head indoors to order while the pup stays outside. Be sure to check their website and social media for the latest event schedule. A perfect day-trip destination to relax with friends, family, and of course, your four-legged companions.

They even offered wine slushes at the time which we tried and enjoyed. It was really refreshing especially during the hot weather. We got a whipped ricotta and a small meat/cheese board to share. We devoured all of it! The vineyard was beautiful and had both indoor and outdoor seating. The employees were very friendly and very informative of the different wines available. We are definitely going back to try more wine when the weather warms up.
