I had gone to my first guitar lesson with him and he asked me why I wanted to learn guitar. I said cause I write songs and it would be nice to not have to sing them alone with no accompaniment in my living room. So he said why don't you bring in a song next week and I did. He worked out some chords and music and laid down a vocal, guitar and drum track on garage band right there and then and emailed the song to me by the end of the lesson. I was listening to it on my iPhone walking home that day! I have never been so high as when I heard my first song come alive. He got me to the point where I was writing a song a week, he would write the music, brought in great musicians, we started rehearsing weekly and I did my first gig ever with him of all original songs in April 2013. It was a terrific experience.

Good thing I didn't take my boys when they were younger, wouldn't have been for them. A smaller museum compared to the Met but there were still many items to look at. What caught my attention were the details - in the paintings, written books, carved pieces/sculptures (esp the really small ones), tapestries, etc. There were groups having an activity in some areas which blocked us from seeing some of the works of art up close though, like the Unicorn tapestry. I think visits in the spring and summer are better so can enjoy the outdoors. The open courtyards/gardens were lush with greenery and it's nice to spend time out there. The museum has 2 floors. Be ready for going up/down via stairs. It is wheelchair-accessible though I read it is limited. There are a few wheelchairs - free to use, first come-first served. Best to contact them re: the accessible entrance, a shuttle, etc. I learned from another visitor that a staff member has to accompany when taking the elevator. Restrooms are in the lower level, with a wheelchair-accessible one. Took the A train - Dyckman St. station. Entered Fort Tryon Park, then walked uphill a bit then took the stairs (towards the left from the path, steep in some areas). If you have difficulty with stairs, continue on the path or ask about the shuttle.

4/24/26: The Met Cloisters is a must see when in NYC!…read more It's been ages since my last visit. The Cloisters overlooks the Hudson River. It officially opened in 1938. The museum is dedicated to medieval art and architecture. The Cloisters itself is a stunning building. Our first Tour Guide took us around the wonderful medieval statues and gardens. She explained thoroughly about all the herbs and plants that are culinary and for their medicinal purposes. Our second tour guide Valerie was excellent for the "Highlights of the Met Cloisters. A major museum highlight is the Unicorn Tapestry Room (Permanent Display). These 7 tapestries were created approximately 500 years ago. (The Narrative: The Unicorn series tells a story ranging from the hunt's start and the unicorn at a fountain to its defense, capture, and, finally, the famous "Unicorn in Captivity" image). The museum does have a café (The Trie Cafe) on the premises. It's very good for a quick bite along with garden view seating. Museum times as follows: Sunday through Tuesday 10 AM - 5 PM Wednesday- Closed Thursday-Saturday 10 AM- 5 AM. It's best to arrive at the Cloisters upon opening. During the first tour, it wasn't too crowded, but the second tour was extremely crowded. The Met Cloisters is located at 99 Margaret Corbin Drive Fort Tryon Park, New York City, NY 10040. Highly recommend visiting the stunning Met Cloisters.

They needed a stage for the speakers, though, no one could see beyond the first few rows... onto the temple courtyard probably would've been better for the dancers and speakers (no one with food, I get it). Still, I can see why folks get married / have giant parties here. Beautiful at night and great lighting and a chance to browse the exhibits in the hall. They also had a few musicians. Nice to be there without the crowd.

This spring/summer's Raphael: Sublime Poetry exhibit was a sight to behold. 170 works by this…read moreartist known to us as Raphael (Raffaello di Giovanni Santi (1483-1520)) were displayed, many never reunited together for hundreds of years until now, the first comprehensive retrospective on his work in the US (at least according to the Met press release). Luckily I had the opportunity to check it out a week before closing, and the galleries were unsurprisingly packed to the brim. While slow-moving, thankfully most patrons were considerate of others, giving everyone a chance to appreciate each sketch, study, painting, or other media. I'll admit I went a little crazy with the photos, taking pics of almost all the works that I could, figuring when would be the next time I would see a collection such as this. It was incredible to glimpse preparatory sketches and see Raphael's style and ink/chalk work firsthand; it was like peering into the mind of a genius. Of the many paintings displayed, a couple themes stood out: the tenderness displayed in his Virgin and Child renderings, and the utmost detail he paid attention in his sketches on the human body. (And sidebar--one thing I've learned from this exhibit is Yelp's censorship of nudity is pretty strict, which I understand for relevant reasons, though slightly unfortunate when it comes to art, so I had to self-censor some pieces.) I have been to Tomasello Winery plenty of times and I have always been pleased. This time was no…read moredifferent. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the staff behind the bar (wish I knew her name). The customer service is impeccable! The staff was very friendly, and attentive! She was very knowledgeable about the wines and gave us a little history about the tasting. We chose to do two tastings (you can choose 6 wines) so we intentionally chose different wines so that we could broaden our horizon. The wines were great. All tasty however, some did not sit well with my pallet. I really like that they offer oyster crackers to eat while you are tasting the wine to clean you pallet prior to the next tasting. I wish some other wineries would do that. If your pallet is clear prior to tasting different wines you will really be able to identify all of the notes of the different wines. The ambiance was nice as always. Tomasello Winery in Lambertville, NJ is a small quaint tasting room in the middle of old town Lambertville. There isn't much room however, the small space offers a more intimate tasting experience. Overall, it was a great experience. I especially enjoyed all of their ciders particularly the apple cider and watermelon cider. I was able to take some bottles home as well. I thought it was really nice and sweet for the lady to hold our bottles while we went shopping in the town so that we would not have to carry our bottles from store to store. Kathleen immediately made us Californians right at home, and the place was unassuming and comfortable. We did the flight tasting of the various and ended up buying a bottle of the Cab Franc and the Petit Verdot...both paired well with Monday's grilling. The experience, sub par. "Tastings" are offered as flights, so not tastings. On top of that, the flights are set, so you can't choose what you drink. It's just dry or sweet. There is no interaction with the staff to learn about the grapes, origin, how it's made etc etc. true wine drinkers love the traditional experience that this winery just misses the mark on. Flights are served in plastic cups on wooden boards, ok but wasteful. Overall, a disappointment, without some changes this will not be a winery we return to
