We spent a beautiful afternoon here - the outdoor area is spacious though you need to bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, and there is limited shade. They do a wine tasting and also offer wine flights of 3, 4, or 5 different wines. The traminette was sweet and refreshing and one of my favorites. I also tried the riesling which was not as sweet as some rieslings are but also not super tart. The sunrise blush was also nice. Finally, the berry and mango peach sangria were both delicious and perfect for a hot day. There are some limited food and snack options - there's a deli food truck out back. I signed up for a sea glass Christmas tree art night with my friend. Having never been to this winery before. It was dark and winter but I'd imagine in the summer it's a beautiful view of the vineyard. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They offered samples before we picked wines to taste, offered to take photos of us. The workshop was fun and unique. The wines, delicious. Blueberry was a favorite. Parking lot is large, you get a discount if you pay with cash. Clean, and nicely decorated winery. They had a cute store with nice Christmas baskets and decor. They let us bring our own snacks, cheese tray and water bottles (I read in previous reviews they weren't allowed outside drinks but no one said anything about our water bottles). They had live music (it was a Friday night). Everything was a decent price, even the art night ($35 where other places charge $45 and up) I definitely recommend and I'll be back soon. read more

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon with our friends. We were greeted with a smile at the counter. He explained everything and we all chose a tasting. We were moved to the tasting room and greeted by a very nice lady. I'm sorry I forgot her name. She explained each wine we tried and had some good stories for some of the wines. All the wines were terrific. After the tasting we chose to buy a bottle and enjoy it while we ate lunch. The Legends food truck was on site and the steak sandwich we had was very good. The portions were big. The building is a cool place. The tables are barrels with nice size tops on them. I only live 3 miles from here and never went. I will definitely be back. read more

I've been to this winery twice. It's a nice winery that's local and the wines are decent. While I wasn't overly impressed with the wines, it was nice scenery and it was a nice way to enjoy a beautiful day. The staff was helpful in selecting wines and there had been food trucks both times. I'm giving this 3 stars now because my friend and I went yesterday and we had a red wine that was suggested. The server described it as a little "zingy". The sample we had of it tasted okay enough for us to get a bottle to share. The issue came when we poured the bottle, it didn't taste the same. It was weirdly fizzy and not enjoyable, however we bought the bottle so we took our time and powered through it. This was not a wise decision. Both my friend and I are experiencing food poisoning symptoms that started a few hours after that wine. Extreme nausea, diarrhea, etc. It's the only thing that we had shared that would cause us both to be sick. I've never had this experience before. I would give that wine negative stars if I could. I'm still giving this place 3 stars because there are other wines and it's a good place to hang out with friends to enjoy the day. They probably need to remove that strange fizzy red wine from their menu though. read more

Night off the bat weird vibe. They don't allow outside beverages, bottles water a half drank already beverage you have like a fast food or iced coffee cup. I was extremely disappointed in the wine. I did a tasting and nothing tasted like how i expected. The place is cute with lots of seating inside and outside and live music. I love coming here, trying all the different reds and going to a tasting led by one of their friendly staff members (and coming home with a complimentary wine glass!). They've also got food trucks, live music and a lot of nice places to sit. If I had one complaint? The bathrooms are tiny, and there's always a long line to use it. The cozy atmosphere is great, the entertainment top notch, and being able to bring your own food is awesome and price conscious too. Working Dog Winery and Vineyard does a wonderful job welcoming their customers with a beautiful venue, music, food truck, but also allowing you to bring your own food and of course, they allow dogs! There's a space for everyone at Working Dog! Several inviting rooms outside, a shady porch in the summer, and large grassy area between the main building and the vineyards. Employees have always been knowledgeable and helpful! Our last visit we learned, from the man helping us with our tasting, about the Open Source co-op wine. We collected bottles from all but one winery and had a wine pairing dinner with friends. We love NJ wines and the Open Source brings NJ wines to a new level for us. read more

Great wines, nice venue, music might be a bit loud for casual conversations. Lots of rules based on experience with thoughtless visitors. I was there when someone was having a birthday party. Food and cake was everywhere and they left a mess, hence no parties. No kids or dogs either which is a blessing. You get a glass if you buy a tasting, but no glasses if you want to open a bottle there to enjoy. They charge a small amount for a glass, but its free advertising if they take it home. Also a weird rule about not bringing any water bottles in. They check your cooler before entering. read more

It turns out that if you go to a winery that literally has "dog" in their name but it's raining all day, you will see NO canine chums. A very sad state of affairs, but I certainly don't blame the winery for that. I do think going forward I would hesitate to go to a winery in rainy conditions unless I absolutely had to - you can tell this place is probably gorgeous outside on a sunny day, but we weren't able to take advantage of that. I came here with my cousin chums yesterday afternoon for a few hours. It's conveniently located in that it's roughly equidistant between us, a few minutes off the Turnpike and pretty easy to find with some GPS assistance. We were one of the few customers/guests there when we showed up around noon, but it did actually fill up a bit as the afternoon progressed. The interior area is interesting. There is a TON of taxidermy on the walls, which is not something I associate with wineries, but this is kind of an odd area of Jersey so not entirely out of character, I suppose. The tasting room to the left was very spacious and comfortable; again, if we'd had the choice of spending time outside in the sun we would have, but this wasn't a terrible alternative. Many reviewers have mentioned the rules, and deservedly so. We'd all looked through them beforehand, and there are some VERY specific restrictions. I'm used to seeing a list of rules/instructions from wineries that clearly were written in response to some rowdier parties, but based on this compilation, it seemed like they had the Birthday Party From Hell at some point, featuring hoagies, kites and baseball bats. I've never seen anything like it. I will say though that, having actually been on the premises, I didn't feel like I was burdened by the rules, per se - yes, they are framed and displayed in a few areas (see attached), but I also expected one or two employees to sort of embody that mindset, and I didn't get that vibe, thankfully. Everyone was very pleasant and professional. There was an older gentleman outside I think overseeing the parking situation (it's pretty informal and mostly on the grass, so it does require a little direction at times), and he told me as part of his introductory script, "We only have one rule - to have fun." Sir, I saw the rule about the hoagies. Not true. Nice guy though. We decided to do the $18 tasting, which I thought was reasonably priced, especially when you take into account that a) you got a solid list of options to choose from, b) a bottle of water and c) a free winery glass to take home. I think that's one of the better tasting packages I've encountered, so kudos to them. The young woman who handled our tasting was very nice and accommodating (at one point, my one cousin chum asked if we could take a break to eat some of our charcuterie we'd brought in, and we were told it wasn't an issue since the place was still pretty empty), and was well equipped with descriptions and preferences for the wines she was showcasing. I DO think though that they need to have palate cleanser on hand for the tasting that goes beyond the bottle of water. I'd have free water at the actual tasting, along with some wine crackers. I don't think it's a coincidence that my favorite wine (the Traminette) was the first one I had - my palate was the cleanest for that. This is a personal palate preference for sure, but I just wasn't a fan of the wines. Even the Traminette to me (while definitely perfume-y with a distinct citrus note) seemed too light and bland, and that was a general impression I got from all of the wines I tried, including one of the Ugly Duckling sweet wines and the Chambourcin. It could be the soil in this area of the state, which is probably a bit sandier than what I'm used to from the northern area (I grew up in northern Hunterdon so I have a lot of experience with Alba Vineyard in Finesville, which is basically in the Appalachian foothills), but I didn't like any of them to the point where I thought it was worth bringing a bottle home. I also think it's a huge unforced error on Working Dog's part not to have some type of eating options on the premises, even just a fridge with some informal charcuterie options. This area is totally devoid of any legit eating destinations (I even asked a native of nearby Allentown if he had any recs for a post-winery meal and he simply replied, "No.") so you're basically putting the onus on your customers to ensure that they pack their own provisions for a trip here. That to me is the most obvious and easiest element to improve. This wasn't a terrible experience by any means and I always enjoy sipping some vino with my cousin chums whilst discussing Frasier reruns, but I'd be reluctant to come back given my tepidness on the wine and the lack of food. read more

Very lovely winery to spend an afternoon. The property is beautiful with outdoor seating overlooking the vineyard. They also have indoor seating as well. $18 comes with a wine tasting of 5 different wines and the wine glass. You can also purchase wine by the pour or the bottle. Was skeptical about coming here because of the mixed reviews of everyone talking about their crazy list of rules, but I'm so glad I decided to come & bring my mom with me because we had the best time! We ended up doing the tasting, and our guide Lindsay/Lindsey(sp?) was very knowledgeable about all of the wines, ensuring we had enough information before making our selections. The current tasting includes 5 samples, a bottle of water, and a keepsake glass. Both my mom and I ended up buying two bottles each afterwards, and sat outside to enjoy the scenery and fresh air on their covered patio area while some live music was playing. You can also bring your own lawn chairs if you want to sit under the sun and they have a few snacks to buy there, options from a food truck, or it looked like some people brought their own small items to munch on too. I had such a fun time at working dog winery with some friends yesterday. There was live music and amazing vibes throughout the afternoon. We did a wine tasting and got bottles of our favorite red and white to share. I normally go for reds but I really enjoyed the Traminette. It was light and had a clean finish. Our favorite red was the marechal Foch. I normally prefer cabs but this red stole the show. We were able to bring our own snacks so I set up a little picnic on the grass for the group. I would highly recommend bringing chairs or mats to set up and then snacks to pick on during the day. It was such a fun time. Next time I'll bring my puppy, he would love it here! read more

Came here recently with my wife and some friends and we really enjoyed ourselves! We parked right on the grass outside the winery and wandered inside to order a bottle. They have special souvenir glasses that you get to keep (for maybe $2 a glass - my friend treated us so I can't recall the exact number) and there's a really nice patio area where you can hang out and look at the vineyards. We tried a couple of different types of wine. First, the blueberry wine was very tasty, so I definitely recommend that one :) The Syrah was not as good - we all were a little disappointed, I think. We didn't run into any issues with the rules but they do seem a little restrictive to me (we can't bring our own water?). Also, I wish it was open a little later on the weekends since closing at 6 PM seems a bit early. But I can't say I go to a ton of wineries so maybe that's a normal closing time :) Overall, we would definitely come back here! read more

First time here in a few years since Covid. Leading up to coming today we noticed there had been quite an increase in rules since the last time we were here. Also once inside we noticed the staff asking if we had outside liquid in our bags. Makes you feel like you're doing something wrong before you even enter. Once inside I ordered a wine and the woman corrected my pronunciation but in a demeaning way. I ordered it how she said but she thought I misspoke I guess. I don't know just rubbed me the wrong way. This place is good if you like hanging out outside, definitely dog friendly almost every group had a pup. Just weird no kids allowed , but dogs are. We would have been able to stay longer if our kids were allowed. The wine is good but I feel like the vibe has completely changed with all the new rules that have been enforced since the last time I was here. read more

We used to go to the winery from time to time for years. The wine was always decent, the lawn is a nice place to relax etc. That being said, we have a young child. We were traveling from our home in PA to our spot in NJ and thought it would be nice to stop in. Well, before we could enter there was a NO CHILDREN ALLOWED sign posted boldly outside the door. This must be a trend at NJ wineries... Are children that disruptive? That being said, I am also referring to young children, say, under 6. Are they annoying the pretentious guest? Are they ruining the ambiance? Is there some NJ Alch Bev control rule I am unaware of? Had the BEST time here! The winery itself is very spacious. There's plenty of room to sit. I suggest bringing chairs and a small table. We had lawn chairs and stools to sit on. We had a small gathering for a birthday. Brought a little table, some chips, cheese and meat. Had an amazing time. Glasses are $2 with wine. Bring your own and you won't need to buy one. The wine was also really delicious. One that really stood out to me was the blueberry wine. It is on the sweater side (one glass max for me). I still really enjoyed it. It was a taste unlike anything I've had before. Great dessert wine. I also liked that they didn't charge you to enter like most wineries do. A big plus is all the wonderful dogs running around. Gorgeous winery with a nicely shaded patio and large lawn area to set up with your own chairs/picnic blanket. I easily spent several hours here sipping on wine with a few friends, enjoying the live music and beautiful views of the vineyard. Due to COVID, the winery isn't providing drinking glasses or complimentary water, but you can either bring your own glass/cup or buy it there. Bottled water is sold inside. There's also no food for sale, but they allow you to bring some snacks and small bites (larger meals aren't allowed; the food policy is on their website). Wine is currently only sold by the bottle, which ended up being great for sharing with my group. There's a nice variety available, but our favorites were the sweeter wines like Blueberry and Ugly Duckling. Such a nice way to spend a weekend afternoon. Will be back! read more

The PERFECT place to go if you're looking to relax, sip on some delicious wine, and spend time with friends/family. My friends wanted to get away and spend a few hours catching up & enjoying nature-- so glad we found the Working Dog! (Dog friendly by the way!) This is the one of the few wineries in central NJ that allows outside food (outside drinks are not allowed, though) if you're looking to have a picnic with your wine. I LOVE sweet wine and I highly recommend the Ugly Duckling White!! Unfortunately, no wine tastings now due to COVID . You either have to bring your own wine glass or purchase one of theirs ($2). Currently, they are only selling wine by the glass OR by the bottle. We went around 2pm on a Friday and there was plenty of room to sit. We brought blankets thinking we'd have to sit on the grass but if you get there before it gets busier in the evening (around 6pm) you can definitely snatch a picnic table. Regardless, the grass area was so spacious and they even have small yellow cones to ensure safe distances between groups. I saw several groups bring their own foldable lawn chairs and even a small table. There are also tables available on the patio, but they are less spaced out from each other. as someone who really enjoys going to wineries, working dog winery is a bit odd in environment. i don't understand why they market themselves as dog friendly, but do not provide any seating in the area that allows dogs. you need to literally bring your own lawn chair to sit and enjoy the (expensive) wine you're buying. because it was raining, we seemingly got away with having our pup on the patio, however. other wineries are plentiful in seating, views and are ACTUALLY dog friendly. many signs ruling dogs/children not permitted in the seating areas. i would not come here again if i had to drive more than 10 minutes. read more

We met up with a couple of friends at Working Dog Winery last weekend, and were surprised by how crowded it was, even though the weather was chilly. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. Out on the grass sat many well-behaved dogs and people on portable folding chairs and picnic blankets they brought from home. Everyone was having a great time enjoying wine from the winery. Wine glasses can be provided, but they will cost a fee. You are welcomed to bring your own wine glasses. The 4 of us polished off two bottles of chardonnay and Sangiovese in the two hours we were there. Good wines from NJ are rare, and I have to say the two wines that we had were excellent for NJ standards, and very easy to drink. If you get hungry, there is also a lobster roll stand on site. Working Dog Winery is a great place to kick back with friends and drink good wine. Would love to come back the next time we're in NJ. read more

They require that you purchase wine and water from them so they check to see if you are bringing in any drinks with you. There is a serious lantern fly infestation that prevented me from enjoying the atmosphere. Super chill place to come hangout on a beautiful day. Love that it's not that big either; makes it easy to navigate around the property. A group of my friends got together Saturday to celebrate a birthday at Working Dog Winery Saturday. The weather was perfect and Working Dog provides excellent surroundings for a relaxing day. Located on a farm in Robbinsville surrounded by vines and grass fields. I recommend bringing chairs, blankets and small tables if you have a large group. Smaller groups may be fortunate to secure covered tables and chairs. Working Dog has a wonderful band playing 70's-90's music, the band was excellent. No outside beverages, even water are allowed to be brought in. Snacks, meals etc are encouraged to be brought in. On this particular day they had a cheesesteak truck on premises where you could purchase some snacks or a light meal. The winery does not sell Wine by the glass, you must purchase a bottle. They have a nice variety of wine that is all made on premises. I have to say, the wine was terrific...so much so that I purchased some for thanksgiving. Glasses are for sale as well, $2 for a cute wine glass which is more than reasonable. The bottles of wine ranged from $18-$30 plus. My favorite was their sweet white Traminette. It reminded me of a Riesling. I had 2 reds, a Pointer which was a solid Cabernet and their Syrah which was solid. On a nice day, I recommend getting there early. Parking is available but depending on your arrival you may have a walk. If you get there early and are in a small group you may have a shot of getting a table and chairs. I would recommend bringing chairs just in case. Right now they are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You must be 21 or over to enter, no children/underage which is a recent change as I understand. Dog friendly One star off for the restriction on bringing your own water. It is for sale $2 a bottle. I would like to see flights available for purchase or small samples so decision making is easy. We visited the winery on a beautiful sunny day. There was live music playing while families and friends, some with their dogs, sat around listening the music. The grounds are beautiful and the buildings very functional. The large outside covered porch provides shelter for large groups and musicians. They have chairs, but you can bring your own just in case there is a large crowd. There's also a designated area for you to put up your own tents on weekends. This place is great, not just because it's super dog friendly, but also because you can walk freely among the vines. It was quite crowded in the tasting room, I felt like they need a bigger tasting room with some more lighting. But once you're done with your tasting, grab a glass or a bottle of wine and head out back where there is plenty of seating. Bring a block of cheese, some snacks and make a picnic out of it. You're also allowed to bring some packed food from outside. This winery has a great selection of wines for NJ, from dry to sweet, with something to please everyone.
