I was super excited to learn that NJ's only master of wine was investing in my town and renovating a historic building for a restaurant concept that isn't found in these parts. The concept is a wine bar where you can sample their entire wine & spirit list in 3 or 6oz pours. Everything they offer is also available by the bottle for retail purchase to take home. The bulk of the list is found online using the QR code. It's a very comfy yet elegant "try before you buy" experience. They also have a few bites to nibble on while you're there but not a full or traditional menu. It's like tapas. It's very heavy on the vegetables. We tried and loved the hummus. The edamame had great flavors. The Korean fried chicken was underwhelming. The boneless pieces of chicken were light and crispy but I was expecting a sauce. Gochujang & scallions were mentioned on the menu but I couldn't detect them. I even asked the waitress and she wasn't sure either. We just left it at that! The coleslaw on top didn't seem special at all and I could have done without it. The charcuterie board was very small and uninspired. We selected 2 cheeses and a meat for our board and the cheeses were approx 1.5" x 1.5" in size. My husband could have popped each piece into his mouth in one bite. The olives were already pitted and seemed like they were out of a can. We each got a flight of red wines. I can't remember which flights and honestly, they all end up tasting the same after the first 2 sips. Next time, I'll just order a wine that I think I'd like to try and see if I enjoy it rather than choosing a flight. The renovations and finishes were very tastefully done. The place feels very cozy, especially in the room with the fireplace. Heads up: A lot of their seating is lounge chairs with lower tables so there's a lot of leaning over for your food. I do wish they installed retractable glass doors rather than the curtain they have hanging to separate the private event space. I'm eager to come back and give it another try. I enjoyed the vibe and I want to check out the rest of the menu.

Cree Wine is an amazing place, to enjoy the depth of wine knowledge available at Cree would otherwise require a trip to Manhattan. The focus here is wine, if you do not enjoy wines, if their yearly variations in scents, intensity and depth of tastes does not fascinate you, you can have a good meal here, but you are missing the point. Despite that focus Cree does its best not to be off putting to a novice wine drinker. Instead, it encourages them with inexpensive (for the value) flights and dozens of wines available as small tastes. There is no need to commit to a whole bottle, though if you do Cree Wine is the fairest priced restaurant you will find. They charge only NJ retail price plus a $35 service fee, even for wines costing hundreds of dollars which normal restaurants routinely double or triple in price. The food while not the focus, is well prepared and intended to enhance rather than compete with enjoying the plethora of wine options. They have 3 plate sizes 1,2 & 3, intended to be like a usual starter, share plate and entree. My guest and I shared the seasonal cheese special Vacherin Mont d'Or, a taste you would otherwise need to travel to Switzerland to have. The whole cheese was warmed until its gooey unctuousness was at its peak, and served with duck fat fried fingerling potatoes, little toast, cornichons and a small bit of endive salad. We paired this with a glass of the recommended French white wine, then went on to try flights of three chardonnays and a trio of Rhone wines. Undaunted by the cheese we added an order of sourdough bread accompanied by a wonderful sea-salted butter, a scallops plate and a duck confit plate to share. All were delicious and paired very well with the wines. On a negative note, the restaurant was quite busy and very loud. We were seated at a high-top table even though I had requested a normal table in my reservation. Our waitress was very helpful, but extremely busy. It took a long time to order and to get our food. We will be back soon, perhaps on a slower night.

Chris Cree is one of 57 Wine Masters in the United States and New Jersey's only person to attain this status. He is unassuming, understated, brilliant and nice....often a rare combo for a person with true wine expertise that is deep and proven. We enjoyed small plates and dinner and enjoyed the very cool and generous Wine Wednesday program offered, which offers all bottles for purchase without a corkage or restaurant mark-up....a huge savings. And Chris' collection is known far and wide for being interesting and expansive. Tom, who was on board for the wine program during our visit, is wonderful...fun, professional and knowledgable. Our small plates were delicious, edamame, burrata, and shishito peppers...each dish beautiful and fantastic. We then moved on to our meals....hamburger, crispy chicken and two of us enjoyed the scallops. A+++. The space is very attractive, with different rooms offering differing vibes. What a great space! They offer classes, special wine dinners, tastings, flights and private events. Take a ride to the former Perryville Inn and see how it has been transformed in to a must visit when living in or driving through NJ. Can't wait to return.

It was a night with live music so even though they played on the bar side it did make it impossible to hear people at our table talk. I had the chicken fried chicken that our server recommended. The chicken and Mac and cheese was good - the green beans not so much (they tasted strongly of citrus and there was a lot of soggy bacon that had been boiled. The flavor profile and texture just wasn't my thing.) Our final bill for 2 meals, a cocktail + beer plus tip was a little over $100. A little steep for what it was imo.

We were the only table being served, which gave us hope that things would go smoothly. Unfortunately, that hope quickly faded. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. My partner ordered a burger rare, and I ordered the mushroom risotto. When the plates finally arrived, I was shocked. The rice in the risotto was completely undercooked, the dish was incredibly salty, and strangely, there were no mushrooms in it. Desperate for a proper meal, I sent it back, only for the same plate to come back two minutes later with raw mushrooms just thrown on top. I honestly thought it was a bad joke. I was so hungry I ended up just eating around the mushrooms, but it was deeply disappointing. As for the burger, it came out well done, the exact opposite of what was ordered. But again, we were too hungry to ask for it to be redone. Sadly, we will not be coming back. This was not just a bad meal, it felt like no one in the kitchen cared. That plate coming back with raw mushrooms said everything. Circa lost two loyal customers that night.

We live in Clinton Twp and The Clinton House was top of the list to visit. Appetizers: crab cake and portobello fries. Crab cake was excellent, all crab, no filler, loved the sauce. Portobello fries were fine, a little dry, but good sauce. Entrees: My husband got the French dip sandwich which I tried..it was okay. Definitely not bad but nothing special. Where the food really fell short was my entree. I got the shrimp and scallop risotto special. It came with two shrimp and "four" scallops, which was two scallops cut horizontally prior to cooking and seared. Scallops were complete rubber and tasted like ammonia, and the shrimp were extremely overcooked. The risotto itself was tasty and I would have it again, but for $40 it was not an acceptable dish. Our waitress was not rude, but not particularly friendly. We loved the vibe and decor of the restaurant, and other staff we interacted with were pleasant. I would not return here based on food quality and price point. I think the establishment is historic and beautiful, but could be improved greatly.

So I looked up wine bars and boom - VintEdge was right down the street. I came in around 9pm, picked a comfy seat by the window, and ordered. Can you believe I had never had an espresso martini until that evening?? So my first was a pumpkin espresso martini. Well I may have had 2. And another drink. Ahem. The service was great, not fussy, and I wasn't rushed even as we approached last call. Visit 2: having heard about my great experience there alone, my cousin arranged to meet me there last week. Or so she thought. Through a series of mutual miscommunications, I was here at the crib waiting for her, while she was at the wine bar waiting for me. I can see why this restaurant was chosen. We were a group of 10 people celebrating a Christmas Party. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The dining room itself was lovely. It was decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations, a large Christmas Tree in the corner. They have a mantle over the fireplace that was lit up and decorated with Christmas lights. What made this room extra special was the gigantic fireplace that had a roaring fire going as we sat and enjoyed our food and each other's company. The setting was traditional and on each wall were framed pictures. I kind of felt like I was in a Southern home. In a separate room was a nice size bar with flatscreen TV's. We started off with cocktails and appetizers. The dishes that were chosen: MUSSELS ALA VINO- I got them in a marinara sauce with garlic crostini for dipping. The mussels were delicious. CALAMARI FRUTTI- fried calamari with capers, black olives, sun dried tomatoes, and caramelized onions. Along with TRADITIONAL FRIED CALAMARI-with MARINARA. Both Calamari' dishes were delicious. MOZZARELLA EN CAROZZA- Served with marinara sauce. These were crunchy and the middle oozed with fresh melted mozzarella. LITTLE NECK CLAMS AND SAUSAGE- Lemon, garlic, herbs, crostini. These clams were sweet and smokey from the sausage. WINGS- (Medium Heat) the wings were crispy and flavorful. For my entree I chose their Special. STUFFED FLOUNDER WITH CRABMEAT-It was light and tasty. It also came with a vegetable risotto, which was really delicious. Other dishes that were chosen were PORK OSSO BUCCO-Vegetable risotto, and pan gravy POLLO PARMIGIANA-Boneless breast of chicken breaded with marinara and melted mozzarella POLLO MILANESE-Boneless breast of chicken pan-fried topped with arugula, onions, tomato, balsamic vinaigrette SALMON-Pan-roasted salmon with pesto sauce, seasonal vegetable saute, roasted potatoes GAMBERI SCAMPI-Jumbo shrimp, lemon, garlic, herbs, over spaghetti PENNE VODKA-Peas, prosciutto, a touch of cream, tomato, and a splash of vodka. We then went on to desserts. TIRAMISU, LEMON SORBET, TARTUFO, ICE CREAM SUNDAE, RED VELVET CAKE. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their dinner and their desserts. It was a very relaxing and peaceful evening. Our server was wonderful and very attentive. Even the owner came over and checked on us. I would definitely return and try some other dishes.

But before I go into the food, let me address something I've never seen before on a bill. I ordered a Bourbon mixed with Diet Coke and the $15 charge was broken into three separate charges: $12 for whiskey; $2.50 for "whiskey prep rocks" (adding ice?); and $1.50 for "whiskey prep mixed" (mixing it?). What???? The first proseco served to another diner was outright flat, it was replaced. Meal. I ordered veal scalloppine picata and the meat tasted nothing like veal as it was a tough chew. My wife had the shrimp with risotto and she said the shrimp was ok but risotto was flavorless. Indeed, it's the first time I ever saw almost all the risotto left on the plate. The chicken milanesa someone else ordered came out cold in the first round and properly replaced with a new serving however everyone else's meal had to wait so we could eat together. Our waitress was nice but not very experienced and perhaps a little flustered. Brought out the dinners but hadn't bussed the appetizer plates in advance, It's actually not her job so I think they just lack help. The clams and sausage appetizer was very good. Perhaps the place had a bad night, but frankly for $300 with tip for 4 people was simply not worth it. Glad we tried it but it will likely be a one and done for us.

Nowt a bad experience. The menu is appropriate to the wine. This is a Wine Bar- that is the focus. Jason, the proprietor knows his trade very well, and is not bashful to discuss it, his passion for it, and his history in said trade. Said passion runs thoroughly deep, and his wealth of knowledge may even supersede this. The monthly Wine Dinners showcase his unending search for lesser known, and often hard to find wines within the contiguous United States- Jason being an ex-pat Aussie. I've come to expect a bit of a story and charade with each dinner- and experience. I like that the sampled wines are all generally for sale. The food is usually paired very well, and executed as such. There do seem to be a regularly rotating staff, but that's irrelevant to the experiences. It's his show. Sometimes the portions can be a bit too large at the dinners, and that says a lot for the price- very fair. As for the restaurant proper, the portions are fine. His curated charcuterie board is spectacular, and local. The Bavarian aspect is appreciated quite well. I miss Zum Stammtisch in NY- now, that does not mean this is a German Restaurant, but there are enough influences and pop-up fare that ist es wunderbar! His schnitzels are always thin as paper, crispy as seashells, and delightfully tasty. We always have the German Fare when it's available, as it so often it. For a state populated by/with so many Germans, this is THE ONLY good true German food around. The overall decor is a bit dim (lighting) and old world European- this is not negative- I prefer this to modern settings. There is a 'secret' Narnia room which is reserved for parties of 12 or more. I quite like the concept- though have not used it- had the tour. Again, the wine list is incredibly extensive, and you can always find what you want. Ask. Then, visit the curated wine shop next door! Truly one of a kind. That's another review. Book the specialty dinners weeks in advance as they generally sell out, but pop on a standard night, as there are usually a few tables open. Sit at the bar and chat with the staff about the wines- it's an adventure.

While the food wasn't personally my favorite, a few dishes stood out--especially the Roman-style grilled artichoke, which had the perfect crispness, along with the lobster ravioli and the German apple cake, which was nicely balanced and not overly sweet. The flavors overall leaned earthy, which may just not be my personal preference, as my parents love this place and are regulars. I would definitely come back for wine and appetizers. The restaurant offers authentic German cuisine and is truly unique, with nothing else quite like it in the Lehigh Valley.
