It's a really nice place with an abundance of seating options and full active bar scene. Service is really good and our server Adie (maybe right spelling) was pleasant and on top of things. My first visit to Tiptons Tavern, just over the River in Phillipsburg, NJ. The parking lot was packed, as well as the restaurant. We opted to take a table outside on their lawn, which was a nice space. The picnic tables cut me a little short and weren't very comfortable -- but that's typically my problem. Our server was very welcoming and genuine. Our group was seven, and she offered to split the checks. I asked for the hottest wings available, as did one of my associates. The wing sauce was unremarkable. It was very thin on heat & thin on flavor. It was quite sweet in my opinion. Mike Osuch said it best, "BBQ sauce has more heat than this." The cook on the wing itself was quite remarkable, however. They were crispy and just the way I like them. The bleu cheese was a level above standard, with plenty of crumbled bleu in the dressing. If they could get a signature hot sauce, these wings could possibly be destination wings. I love a good tavern/ bar pie. They offer a 12" thin crust pie, with a homemade sauce. You already know I am ordering this, well done... and what a let down. The crust was unremarkably pedestrian. The sauce was flavorless, and duly unimpressive. Don Pepino in the yellow can would have been a tremendous upgrade. The cheese blend was applied generously, but was weaker than Eric Bischoff's character rating in WWE 2K and in ring talent. The highlight that was reported to me, by one of my buddies, said the herb roasted prime rib was outstanding and also the Bavarian Pretzel. The pretzel was enormous! Overall it was average for me, nothing impressive. It's a very nice space outside. Oddly cash bar outside, but they accept cards inside. If you're gonna enjoy the outside, bring cash. Arrived in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. Staffing was light as they had an event taking place. Seating was comfortable in the main dining room, and wait staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks came slow but were tasty. I had the pumpkin ale and my wife had a martini. Food options were broad and had some nice surprises. We got the soft pretzel and beef skewers for starters and both were delicious. The pretzel was enormous so keep that mind when ordering. I ordered the Octoberfest burger and tots and my wife chose the fish n chips. Servings were ample and had great flavor. I ordered the chocolate layer cake to go and it made a tasty late night snack. A great spot for dinner or drinks in the Phillipsburg area. An extensive drink and food menu to please anyone in your group. My family and I shared a few appetizers that were delicious! The scallops are a must try and the watermelon salad was great with a lot of ricotta salata which is my favorite! For entree I had the chicken Caesar wrap which was standard, could've used more dressing and flavor but the quality of bar food you'd expect. Went to Tiptons with a group of friends for dinner. It's in a beautiful old historic building which had a great atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly. She explained the specials of the day and took our drink order. She brought our drinks quickly and they were quite tasty. Then we gave our food order. I ordered the beef tips with broccoli and French fries, which also came with a side salad. The salad was fresh with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots. Service is good and food is ok. What continues to bother me are fees. Fee for cocktails (they said it was included) and the fee to use a credit card. We were also very unlucky as a kitchen fan broke so they turned on an outside fan near our table to pull smoke out, which caused it to be very cold and smelly (it is usually very cold). All the smoke detectors kept going off so they removed them. We ended smelling like the fryer. When I asked to see the manager, she was understandably stressed and not at all caring. I think I am done there, tired of fees, tired of freezing, tired of feeling like it's my fault all the time, and tired of this new standard of customer service. read more

Not only did I get a timely response, but a wealth of information which heavily weighed in on the final decision of making the reservation. The whole process was seamless, and all questions were answered timely by Linda Tipton. Fast forward to event: everything went well, very well! Better than expected. We chose the Tavern Party Menu, which is a condensed menu including every protein option, salad , and dessert. KC was the assigned server, and she handled our group, approximately 50, flawlessly. I had zero complaints, and many words of praise! Tonight we were looking for a new place to go to for our 10 year wedding anniversary and we chose Tiptons. We made a reservation and were greeted by smiling faces. We went to our table and were greeted by Riley who was an exceptional waitress. She was on top of everything and our food came out hot and delicious. Our 7 year old said wow this has to be our new place and we have to come 5 days a week from now on. My partner picked up 2 chicken parms for dinner on the 30th of last month. My partner ate it before I got a chance to and exclaimed that it tasted like "the last thing I threw up a couple months ago." Before I even tried mine, I could smell theirs. It smelled like absolute stomach bile. I could barely tolerate it. I thought maybe just the cheese smelled a little funky. So, I first tasted a bit of the pasta... I couldn't even stomach the bite. It tasted like puke. Like someone took the pot of marinara, threw up in it, mixed it up, and poured it all over the food. I can't even imagine what the chicken would have tasted like. We had to throw away both of our meals... How disappointing. We both were very hungry and excited to eat last night. But quickly, our night was soured and we went to bed hungry. I understand our order was placed fairly late and close to when the kitchen was closing. But that was absolutely disgusting. Everything was rancid. I cannot believe that "food" was given to us. I never tasted such a thing at any place I have ever been to; or even in my life. I am disappointed, dissatisfied, and grossed out beyond belief. Truly an utter shock and an absolute waste of ~$60. I tried contacting the establishment. I was friendly on the phone but Eric Tipton was absolutely argumentative and inconsiderate. He was yelling and being aggressive. He claimed that everyone who ate the chicken parm that day and himself the day before liked it. He did not understand that maybe a bad batch was served. Maybe someone tampered with our food because it was relatively late? Who knows? If the kitchen did not want to take our order, they should have denied our order initially. Not mess with it. He also claimed that it took an "hour" for us to pick up the food and maybe it went bad during that time frame... It did not take an hour at all... More like 30 minutes after the order was placed. Even if it was an hour, how could food absolutely go rancid in an hour? Make it make sense Eric. I would not go to such lengths if this were not true. First timer here. Fiancé and I were recommended this place from Facebook. The boneless wings we started with were pretty good. Large portion for what you get. She got the chicken divan which was huge! I got the prime rim. Both entrees were amazing! Everything was HOT! Prime rib had an awesome crust and cooked perfectly to a medium temp that I ordered. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy. The green beans were cooked to perfection. Finished off with the key lime moose. She thought it was too sweat but I thought it was perfect! Not ready for prime time Looks to have potential from the outside. Lobby is very interesting albeit lacking any significant seating to wait. I'd recommend calling ahead for reservations as without and was advised it would be 15-20 min wait. It was early and there were many tables open so we agreed. The hostess was kind enough to clear off a bench behind the hostess station to sit. After waiting a hour we asked for a update from the hostess who did not respond. A few minutes later a nice young woman was kind enough to tell us it would be an additional 15-20 minutes before the would seat anyone in order to allow the kitchen to catch up. Given we have waited this long we opted to wait. About Thirty minutes later we were told they would not be seating anyone else (including us). Needless to say we were not please as this left us with limited alternatives.... It was concerning that the fire alarms activated two times with what must have been self resetting as well. read more

As far as the food all I'll say is that I should have said yes to the salt and pepper when asked if we needed it because it would have helped. My issue was with the bill. I was charged $19 for the prime rib sandwich and it is priced at $17 on the menu. When I questioned the bartender she said that there was an up charge for the salad. I asked to see a menu (to be sure) and pointed out that it says "sandwiches, wraps and tacos come with hand cut fries, tater tots, rice or salad of the week" there was no upcharge mentioned. I asked for a salad instead of the fries and was not told there was an upcharge for the salad that the menu said it came with. Your prices should be transparent. I called and spoke with owner later and got a very poor attitude, she said there was not enough room on the menu to put the up charge. They should be clear with what they are charging customers. $2 is not the issue, its that this establishment is not up front with their pricing. read more

For an appetizer we shared the grilled steak quesadilla. I have to say it was truly amazing. The waitress Cassandra is the best. She was awesome very friendly and great at her job. Had dinner here a couple of times and thought it would be a great place to host a baby shower for my sister-in-law. Planning the shower was somewhat last minute but the Tavern had the date and time available that we wanted so it was the perfect choice. We were able to bring in decorations and our own dessert. We were kindly greeted when we arrived early to setup, and our guests were greeted and brought back to the room we were in. All of the appetizers, entrees and drinks were delicious! If I could give 0 stars I would. walked in and sat at the bar and were immediately asked to move over to accommodate someone else. I ordered a titos and soda and was given a single in a short glass but charged for a double. Tried to order Jameson but they didn't have it. Drank a cider first then sat with an empty glass at the end of the bar for 15 minutes. I then tried to order a margarita with salt on margarita night but was told they have no salt and the bartender Erich F was going to look for some then proceeded to served absolutely everyone else at the bar. It was then that I decided I no longer wanted the $35 ribeye that I had been waiting for so I asked for my tab. I understand taking care of your regulars but you'll never acquire new ones this way. Times are tough enough without being overcharged and experiencing terrible service on the off chance that you do even have the privilege of being able to go out. read more

I am absolutely thrilled for this new local restaurant. The specialty drinks are delicious and refreshing. The goat cheese croquettes are to die for! For my main entree I had the French onion burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a very long time - cooked absolutely perfect. I had dinner and drinks here with my family. The space is super clean and inviting. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. The building was remodelled really tastefully and showcases a lot of old photos and maps of the building and area. I enjoyed walking the space and looking at it all. We had the prime rib , nachos, and taco salad. Which were all delicious . I could tell all the ingredients were of good quality and were seasoned really well. An absolute JOKE! The highlight is the beautifully restored Historic building. A bit on the dark side for the interior and tables are too small for (2) people and food plus appetizer. Went on Friday, 10/11/24, so it would be expected to be busy. Sat and sat and sat, then finally got service. I ordered the Ribeye with mashed potatoes, my wife ordered the Jersey burger and fries. I also ordered the Potato/Sausage soup. OMG the soup was terrible! Tasted and looked like over boiled hotdogs in potato water. So the food finally shows up! We are starving! So I end up with the Prime Rib, Frence Fries and almost raw Broccoli. Sure it was Prime Rib, but not the cut of beef that I wanted. No cost difference either way. My wife ended up with a Pulled Pork Sandwich and mashed potatoes. Not even close to what she ordered!!! Dollar wise it did not make a difference. Not sure who is at fault for this, but servers should be checking their items before they take the plates to the customers. Either way there are obviously several inept staff members there that should be in some other job like a Walmart greeter! Waited a while for our server and gave up and ate since it had been so long since we had actually arrived. Then the server Karen finally shows up whining about having 3 table at one time. We saw Tiptons advertised at Wyckoff's Christmas Tree Farm after we had cut our tree and were very happy we decided to stop by when we were done for lunch. Only a few minutes away and spacious, we sat right away even though there were a bunch of other cars in the parking lot with trees on the roof. Very creative Christmas drink menu and great selection of beers. Food was delicious (I can personally vouch for the chorizo burger and hand cut fries as well as the Bavarian pretzel which was big and obviously made fresh) and the service was outstanding(KC our server was great). We will definitely be making Tiptons part of our annual trip to Wyckoff's Christmas Tree farm (they even give you 10% off if you tell them you came from cutting your tree lol). read more
